Strange "system" files won't delete - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

One day a few weeks ago all the files seemed to have disappeared off my micro SD card. I had begun to replace them when some (not all) reappeared. Some even re-appeared in duplicate. Others not at all. At the same time two files were added to my card, both 1.2 GB large, both named with strange characters, and both marked as system files. I have tried everyway I can think of to delete them and have searched this forum as well as the Internet but can't find any answer. Can someone please help? Thanks!
Susan

Just a couple of questions. Are you using file explorer on your phone? Are you using file explorer on your desktop with a USB reader? Are you using Windows/Mac/or Linux? Are you using Activesync and the USB cable to read it as a " mobile device" in "my computer"?
Are the files youre attempting to delete marked with "hidden" attributes?
More info is needed to help ya

Put it in your computer and run a disk check, I'd say the FAT filesystem is hosed.

When all else fails, format. Preferably to Fat32. The old Fat file system is unstable over 512MB, or so I've noticed.

Hi!
I have a problem too. Does anybody know what app (very good only)to use for duplicate file removal? thanks

you probably have some malwares in your card that came from your pc
best thing to do is to format -i agree with silversonic
try keeping ur card healthy (its ur data)
backup is another good trick to survive when dealing with technology

[Help Please] Micro SD Card

Hi
I have 2 gb micro sd card and I want to format it using Resco file explorer. But it keeps telling me to check to see if its unlocked.
I use to be able to format without a problem. But i have recently started to flash roms. I can put stop and take stuff without a problem. Just won't let me format.
I also tried formatting using my laptop, but won't work.
EDIT: Sorry, wrong place. Wanted to post this in general Kaiser forum.
Is the little write protect tab on the side of the sd card in the right position??
i moved it off the lock position and nothing? my comp won't even let me right click it. when I click to open it, says needs to be formatted and when i click format PC says it can't be formatted.
I searched on here, but no thread about this type of problem. card isn't ruined because i can still add and delete stuff.
I never experience this issue .. quite confusing.
However, this should be posted in General forum, not ROM Development. Mod, please move as such ..

Could be a problem with the card / slot connectors. Try with some other card reader.
I had an issue once where I couldn't format my card - I had no lock errors though, just couldn't format through the PC or with PPC programs.
Eventually I installed 'Flash Format' by CNetX (google it) - it formatted first time on the free evaluation version.
Worth a try if you're about to bin it!
Good luck.

You sir are a genius and a life-saver!
This product is a magical potion for the microSD card. I tried so many different things online, on the laptop, and the Kaiser and none worked. This thing took less than a minute and formatted with the click of one button.
Mods, please move this thread. Hopefully it can help others who might have this problem in the future.
Thank you very much sir!
Glad it worked - it's very strange that this little program seems to be able to sort the issues that even the premium programs can't....

External SD Card showing LOST.DIR ?

Hi,
I installed a new external SD card in my phone. Copied files from my Note on to it. After a day I see the folder gone and an new empty folder LOST.DIR in its place.
Is my SD card faulty? I used it for over 6 months in the SG2 without any problems.
Please help!

Thanks but I did read that thread before posting here and that thread made no sense to me.
My folder having Video files is gone and there is an empty LOST.DIR in its place.
I also do not use a Mac.
LOST.DIR is comparable to the recyclbe bin in windows.
if you do not permanently delete files they end up in LOST.DIR for a specific acmount of time. (that's the way it happens on my computer)
i don't think your Video Folder moved on its own to the LOST.DIR. Anyway, check in LOST.DIR - it should be there. Just move it outta there.
Hi I had this problem with a faulty SD card.. I'll never skimp on an SD card again. Its definitely branded ftw here

Hi,
Yesterday I had a folder called "VIDEO" with movie files in it on my SD Card. Today, there is just this folder called LOST.DIR which is empty !! There is no trace of the Video folder of the movie files anywhere.
My SD card is blank except for the empty folder LOST.DIR

Mine is a branded Transcend 4GB card.
Maybe it is bricked then. Do you have the possibility to cross check with another hardware, e.g laptop, card reader...
you can also try to format it, create a tempfile and check what happens.
what's the output of:
du /mnt/sdcard/external_sd ?
After some tests, I found this. If you have your phone connected to a PC (windows) to transfer files to the phone's externalSD directory, then use the "remove hardware option" without noticing there are TWO hardwares listed, then turn off USB from your phone, then unplug, you end up in this bad situation of a directory that's empty except for the lost.DIR (which is not accessible).
If you are careful to remove BOTH listed drives prior to turning off USB and unplugging the files should remain on your phone and be accessible. Your mileage may vary.
PS. I'm pretty certain the lost.dir is as dead as can be and can be safely deleted.

It may be dead, yeah, but why remove it when it'll be created by the system again anyway and it doesn't harm?
delete them all.

Some people have reported them as pushing 3 gigs. I don't have any problem getting rig of 3 gigs of wasted space. If it's 0 bytes? Leave it.
As i've said before - it is comparable to the trash bin in windows. You don't empty it, it takes space on your Disk. Empty it, its zero byte.

Hi, thanks for your efforts but I did not connect my phone to my PC for transfering the files. I cut / paste them from my phone usb drive to the external sd card with the ES File Explorer utility. The files were there for a day, then suddenly they disappeared.

Gotcha. I have also encountered this problem. I suspect the problem is similar.
Because you say the files lingered temporarily, diagnosing a fix or work around won't reveal instantaneously if it was successful. My thought is if it is first copied to another dir then flush the clipboard by copying something else (no need to paste it) then copy the file and paste it into the externalSD, then the origin of those won't be contingent on proper disconnection of the drive. I've made two test files: one as described above and one copied direct from USB. I renamed each to clearly identify which is which. Both files were intact a few minutes after unplugging the drive. I rebooted to see if there was any change. Both files remain. I'm not sure how i killed the files using the jump drive before. Perhaps I didn't wait for the phone to complete the process of disconnecting it. **** happens.
If you do find a consistent way that even definitely following proper procedures leads to lost.dir I would like to hear about it.
[NOTE] I will not test (and do not advise) intentionally disconnecting the drive prematurely as a test of that particular possibility. If lost.dir is not produced employing proper procedures all the way, it is of no use to damage your phone or your jump drive simply to investigate if that was the real cause.
"If it's not broken, DON'T FIX IT!"
edit: Next day both files remain.

[SOLVED][Q][YetAnother]SD car has been unexpectedly removed. (FOR REAL)

Hello.
This is my first post.
I have seen the noob video, I know I am not special. And still:
I have searched the forums, but my problem is different. Most of the posters don't know what caused this error. I know what caused mine. I have actually unexpectedly removed the SD Card. Kind of. Funny story: transferring data (green bar on windows not loaded at all, window stuck on calculating time/finding files etc -technically no data has been transferred), windows explorer decides to go all "Not responding" on me (thank you microsoft). The genius in me tells me to unplug the phone, so I do. Yay! explorer.exe is ok now. Too bad my SD card isn't.
There are some files on it... but none of the folders that I created, so I lost everything except photos and stuff. I have backed them up on my PC. When I connect my phone (which I have to do manually by going into USB settings so that my PC recognizes anything -auto play doesn't appear anymore-), instead of showing up as my phone, it shows up as a media device with stuff on it (folders like Android, DCIM, but none of my manually created folders containing music etc.).
I repeat, I have actually unexpectedly removed my SD card.
I right clicked on the drive in the PC and clicked Format. It warned me. I didn't care, I was desperate. In just one second, it said formatting complete. No files missing, however (still those Android, DCIM etc. folders).
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070 (this forum section, I think). I have flashed the I9070XXLQ4 (android 4.1.2) from Russia on it (a few weeks ago). Not root, or any custom ROM's.
Recap. I have unexpectedly removed my SD card. I want my games back. Or at least formatting it, making it usable.
Formatting the SD card from the phone settings has done it. I am a noob.
try formatting the sdcard on your phone thru the settings>storage..
re-download all your games or transfer them on the sdcard after the format.. if you have back up on your pc or other storage..
as for your pc.. try a reboot.. to correct the drivers of your phone as storage device..

Hi guys.
I hope it's not the wrong thing to revive this old thread.
I was recently installing an RUU onto my phone. After the install completed, the phone restarted and it began checking the SD card again for an RUU - and it found one, as I had not by then removed/renamed it. So, after waiting for it to verify the RUU, selecting "no" to installing it, it restarted again and again it started looking for an RUU. By this time, I was getting impatient, so I tried to remove the SD card quickly before any actual data access happened.
WRONG
My SD card became RAW, inaccessible to Android or Windows. Testdisk and various free versions of paid-for undelete tools (like EaseUS) found only files from waaaaay back, before I had ever used the card in Android. As a precaution, I took two RAW copies of the full card onto two harddisks and compared the MD5 of each (match).
A little wary of the risk of using various features of testdisk, I thought the best thing to do next was a format (not quick format) to exFAT in windows and run all the undelete tools again. No results. Then I found this thread and, as suggested, tried formatting using Android. All software returned no results again.
What else can I do? The contents of the card should still be as they were (unless the formatting twice effected that). Am I correct to assume that the card (128gb) would have been formatted exFAT by Android 5/6?
In testdisk, are "superblock" or "boot" forms of recovery any relevance to me?
Thank you!
(PS: Android is working fine, I'm only having problems with the SD card contents)

[Q] SD Card not installed

Hi guys,
I recently bought a HTC One, I rooted it cause I wanted to change the htc icon to being operational so then flashed the kernel teaMSeven-sense-4.2.2-kernel-v2.1.4.zip. All appeared to be fine but now I am being told that I have no SD card installed so I can't access my photos, use my camera or access the Dropbox app properly. I presume there are some other issues but can't be sure yet. When I connect my computer to my laptop I can access the internal storage without a problem. When I go to recovery mode and go to Advanced - File Manager - sdcard I can see all the folders. Also when I go to mount and try it first gave an error that usb-otg couldn't mount and now it hangs at updating partition details.
Please help!
your sd card is there. there are some fixes in the development section. Take a look there

try this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1YiI-ZZGBs
USB OTG is not your internal storage.
I had the same issue and that video is far too complicated for what you actually need to do.
This is what I did when I upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 on my HTC One.
Issue: You will have a new place for your data now. The default under 4.2.2 is now /data/media/0. Under 4.1.2 it was /data/media. Notice the extra /0 - that's for a multi-user environment.
Resolution: Needs root access, of course.
1. Install ES File Explorer
2. Enable ES File Explorer to have root under it's settings.
3. Navigate to /data/media
4. Ta-da! All your old files are there! NOW...
5. Select and move your files that you want to keep from /media/data to /media/data/0
This worked for me 100%. My free storage was only 2.58Gb with a fresh 4.2.2 install. Because I moved all my wanted files across and deleted all the other legacy items, it's now about 13Gb free.
Used the youtube vid so thanks for that osmosizz, worked well and thought me a bit in the process like getting your java paths right!!
Will try your method Joe if this happens again, cheers

I had same problem, first question should be where did you buy it and for how much? For example sellers from eBay are selling 128gb SD card for 15£ only but it's just rebranded 32 or 64gb cards!

Hi!
This is the Sd 128Gb I bought:
http://www.amazon.it/SanDisk-Androi...784&sr=8-1&keywords=micro+sd+128+gb+classe+10
I think that is a good one!
I saw that this kind of problem starts with Kit Kat, isn't correct?
It's very strange that I cannot copy from the device any file in the Sd card and viceversa!
Many thanks for your kind help!
It's probably not strange and yes, things changed with KitKat. But since you're still refusing to tell us what exactly you're trying to do and how, we cannot help you.
The device can read the SD card, but cannot write in it any kind of file; it's impossible to move or to copy, paste or delete any kind of file, using all file manager you can find in the google play, also trying with resco explorer for rooter user (my Z3 compact isn't rooted). I hope that this explanation can be clear enough!
It's very strange that you can use the Sd card like the older Jelly Beam system, that allow to move o copy any file from one directory to another or from the internal memory to the SD card!
Many thanks again for your kind cooperation!
Of course it's perfectly possible to copy to/from sd card on KitKat, otherwise what would be the point of even having them in KitKat devices.
But usage is more restricted than in earlier Android versions. Tell us *exactly* what you're trying to do, and we can point you in the right direction.

I think that my english is not good enough to explain what I would like to do!
I will try again: with my new Z3 compact and the SD Sandisk 128Gb I cannot copy or move a file from the internal storage of the device to the SD card and viceversa. Also, I can write the SD card, for example, to create or to rename or to delete a file or a directory in the SD card.
Is it clear?
I hope so and, once again, many thanks for your kind help!!

Yes, I tried!
With the File Commander provided by Sony you can manage the SD, but you cannot use the directory which you created (that seems to be only for reading and not for writing) for example, for downloading files from app of the device (e.g. Ttorrent).
Any solution?

You *can* use it for writing ... with File Commander ... but as I stated, otherwise apps can only write to their own folders, e.g. SD card > Android > data > com.yourapp.something
Apps that support saving to SD card will typically have the option in their app settings, and they'll use their own app folder for that. Like Google Music or all of Sony's own apps.
You can also copy stuff to/from top level folders via USB or Wireless Media Transfer.

I can't delete photos from my SD since I started using QuickPic rather than the ultra buggy default 'Album' app thing.
Because the same policy applies to all user apps, they only have write access to their own folder for security reasons.
