External IR "blaster" doodads - Xiaomi Poco F1 Accessories

Has anyone ever managed to get one of these to work?
I bought one years ago and tried to get it to work with a very clunky old phone - no luck. I've since lost it somewhere, but am wondering if it might be useful to make up for the lack of ir blaster
Anyone have any experience with these things?

Sorry about that - thanks for the correction!

Try using zazaremote: open app, configure a remote, there will be a message at the top of the screen saying there's to IR hardware detected - AT THAT POINT you plug in your 3.5mm IR and it should ask you if that's an IR you plugged, say yes... adjust the audio volume to 100% and try it.
Also you need to rotate some of them otherwise there is no contact, this is done so you can keep it plugged into your phone and still have audio through speakers / BT as if it's unplugged...
Please try that I'm waiting to hear if it works for you!

Hope it does. I'm pretty sure I will have lost the one I bought a couple of years back, but I'll have a dig about in my box of phone bits and will report back if I have anything to tell you
Edit:
I was surprised to find it fairly easily. Doesn't seem to work based on a quick check, but I'll fiddle with it and let you know if I have a breakthrough

Actually, these won't work (right)
They will but maybe with complete darkness lol
The trick is to have max volume but you really need an amplifier inbetween your audio jack and this product to have any significant range, I made one myself with a ln386 chip, one end plugs into the USB port and the other end to the audio jack, what it does it turn a led on/off through an app that's basically a soundboard with IR codes

Lumme! Sounds a lot more involved than I'd hoped. Think I'll stick to using the remote control!

Haven't had any luck using a similar product... Looking at the LED through another phone camera it doesn't appear to light up when pressing any function....

I was playing with that last evening. I think the issue may be that neither our TV not our set top box are well supported. I tried setting up a new profile but it just kept screwing up.

U can buy Mi band 4 which supports NFC

Apparently the functionality is limited to some Chinese transit systems and such like - not available or particularly useful outside China so far as I've understood

I was going to buy this

Seems like a decent price, even though the device could use a better screen, bluetooth, and hdmi out. I grabbed a rain check while I think about a possible new toy...
Saw this on Engadget yesterday. The thing doesn't do portrait mode, doesn't have an accelerometer, and almost all signs point to the touch screen being resistive rather than capacitive. Still, for $150 I could slap some velcro on the back and on my cabinets and use it to follow recipes when cooking.

Huh. I spoke with tech support yesterday and they said it didn't support portrait. But we were also talking about the lack of an accelerometer so they might have just meant it didn't automatically flip.
Well I talked to them again today, and I dont get the warm and fuzzy feeling about the answers, but here is what "Ari" had to say:
Ari: unit has options for a prtrait and mode
Ari: headphone jack should be 3.5mm
Ari: unit has a camera
Ari: it has a usb slot for file transfers
Ari: 800mgz for prcessors
Ari: it should be able to charge with the usb also
Ari: it should have a calibrate command also
Ari: and program similar for the android market
Ari: it is using an android 2.1 program
Ari: i apologize this is just a new device and not all program alternatives and specifications has not fully been established
Ari: it is supposed to be out end of the week
Ari: and by august
Ari: i'm basing that from the manual sent to me

They're just reselling the hardware I'm guessing. No way a Florida company could make this cheaper than China can.
over all i like the device. im used to a resistive screen so thats not a problem. doesnt appear to have the auto rotate screen but waiting to hear back from them to find out what the deal is. the manual talks about auto rotating the screen so it should have it. lack of bluetooth is another draw back but i really dont need it. they also have a 2.5mm headphone jack on them instead of a 3.5 like normal but they are addressing that with an adapter i do believe.
power consumption wasnt too bad. i was using the device for 5 hours yesterday and only used a 1/4 reserve from what it said. so i was only down to around 72% charge after playing with it for 5 hours. was reasonably bright enough in a brightly lit room. the angle one can see is pretty good as well.
the microsd card slot isnt in line properly. so if you insert a card you will want to put a price of tape on the end of it so when you release it you can pull it out. i played hell getting the thing to pull out and it was dragging the top of the card so had to use a pair of tweezers to pull it out.
cant access the market yet so havent tried the nook or kindle apps but that will be my next thing. looking at pictures was good. just as good as my digi pic frame.
over all for what i bought it for i do believe it will work a treat. i was going to buy a chumby either the bb or the sony branded chumby and this will work so much better then either of those two devices.
mistakes happen. how do people forget to take thier vitamins in the morning? how do people forget there coffee mug on the roof of thier car?

Well, that's good to hear. Really all I'd ever want one for is reading in bed, surfing the web while on the couch and most importantly, following recipes online without having to print them. Velcro that thing to the cabinet and we're golden.
Can you post some pics of the device from different angles? I'm curious how thick it is and where the ports are.
Seems my local store has a few in stock here, so I'm swinging by on my way home to grab one. Ill report back what I can about the device later tonight or tomorrow morning. Supposed firmware update released tomorrow.

1) there is a thread about someone mounting a Nook Color in his car. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975419&highlight=car

3) Looks nice and clean. I would be to distracted playing with it to drive.
this is incredible, i think im actually gonna do this sometime, may i ask, does it have something to unmount it to do updates or do you just download them straight to it via tethering?

Damn smooth.
About your charging troubles: If you have the stock cable, you can charge at full tilt if you don't connect the data (2 center) pins to anything. Most of the cig lighter chargers have the pullups for iPhones which the NC doesn't like. So get a USB extension cord, lop off the plug end, and connect the red and black to a 2A 5V supply and leave the green and white wires unconnected.
Wow, that's really sick. Nice job.
Wow, this is AWESOME! Good job!!

The AudioControl Three.1 if your not familiar with is essentially a line driver with a few bonus features. I used it merely to drive the head phone line into a solid line voltage for the amps. It give's me front/rear/sub and up 13 volt pre's. Crossovers and minor EQ as well. All I did is took a bass knob that I had laying around from an old polk amp and soldered on it's volume pot' to the volume pot' circuit of the three.1. That way I didn't need to mess with the Nooks volume setting ever (no access to the volume buttons).

I totally agree! I love having my Nook in my hands. It was hard, but I bought the thing for this purpose. I've gone through every crappy cruz tablet and archos looking for something that would work for this build. But I am not a huge fan of the docking stuff in the car, typically looks tackie. I plan on just buying another Nook when I have a few extra bucks.

New Nexus 7 Car Install pics+video

I decided a while ago to use my Nexus 7 as my head unit in my 2006 Legacy 3.0R. This is the result.
Audio is done via a Kenwood FM modulator, and bluetooth streaming to the pre-existing Parrot system as a backup.
In the near future I'm going to mount a 3G-wifi hotspot and Seagate Satellite wifi hard drive in the glove box for internet and media streaming.
Video and better pics coming later tonight
reserved for more pics/video
I really wanted to use the nexus 7 with my car install. But limited storage, and no usb otg/charge at same time. If that was possible it would be in my dash now.
Im going to use a galaxy tab 2 since it can take a 64gb sd. Really wish there was a solution.
But nice, clean install. Im adding mine to my Dodge Magnum.

Segate Goflex Satellite or the Kingston Wi-Drive will solve my storage issues. For now 16GB is enough for just music.
Id like to hear about your experience with that Seagate satellite. It would be nifty to stream that to tablet via wifi and tablet to Kenwood cd player via bluetooth. Talk about ultimate right there, mhm...

It's not really an issue. The tablet turns on and stays on when it connects to power (when the car turns on), then it turns off after a 30 sec timeout once I turn the car off.
As for volume, I usually just leave it on max but there are plenty of widgets on Google Play that can be used to control the volume.
Unfortunately I do need to clip the panel out to turn it off and on, but I don't anticipate needing to to that too often.

Sever Audio Chop on JVC LT-46P510

I was excited to get my Chromecast today, but not excited after testing some of the apps. I can use Netflix fine without issue, but all other apps have severe audio choppiness. For the sake of testing I moved the CC to my Vizio TV and tested the various apps and had no issues. My issue seems to be specific to my JVC LT-46P510 TV.
Anyone have any ideas on a fix? I checked for a firmware update, but nothing. Hoping someone has an answer out there.
I've heard of problems just like this. Other cases were signal issues. Use the extender that came with the cc and make sure the power is plugged into the wall and not a USB on the TV. If this doesn't work you might want to think of moving g the router if possible.

Appreciate the response. I am currently using the extender and on USB power. As for the router it is about 1 foot from the CC.

In that case, try moving the Chromecast and router farther apart. Too close/strong is also not good for signal strength - the whole constructive/destructive interference thing.

It's up to the individual app as to what it points Chromecast to, then it's up to the provider (or site) as to what format is delivered. Seems Netflix is delivering audio in a format that is problematic for your equipment. HDMI supports a few different audio formats as well as sampling rates and bit depths.
Sent from a device with no keyboard. Please forgive typos, they may not be my own.
I would also check the input settings on that TV as well...Some TVs allow you to select which format to expect Audio over HDMI in/
I have the opposite problem. Netflix is all jacked up like Alvin and the chipmunks underwater while other apps are fine.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
Did some app specific testing this morning with some additional info/results. Out of the apps I have installed here is a list of the ones that are working correcting and the ones that are not.
Apps with Choppy Audio:
BeyondPod
Pandora
Vevo
Google Movies
Google Music
YouTube
Apps Working Correctly:
NetFlix
Revision3 TV
RedBull TV
I am hoping a developer or someone with greater knowledge can chime in. I did check JVC's website and no firmware available. I also checked the settings for the input and found nothing for adjusting input audio.

Well you say the device works fine on other TVs right?
That suggests it isn't the CCast that is the problem...
Only thing left to blame is the TV. I would suggest calling JVC support.
One thing I noted from your Manual specs is the TV only supports PCM. I'm going to guess this is a very old TV as far as HDMI standards go.

TV was manufactured in 2010. I suppose that could be old in HDMI standards.

Sadly, it might be. My Sony TV is 2009 and it doesn't support DLNA Video - only Pictures and Music. Not that I'd really use its interface for that anyway, but you get the point.
Manufacturers tend to lag behind the release of a standard since it takes time to design a product, acquire licenses, and bring it to market. The times when they are chomping at the bit to be first (or at least current), you get stuff like the early 802.11n "draft" hardware that didn't always get updated if there was some hardware limitation.

It's less about what year the TV was made and more about how old the design is and what technology they decided to include.
Sometimes to keep the price down they use older circuitry and outdated CPUs since they are cheap to buy at the time,
Sometimes it's all about how much time they spent on the Settings programming, and protocol support.
Still say that a call to JVC would be the best option, Just be sure to tell them that you have no problems with your unit in other areas and DO NOT under ANY circumstances tell them anything they can use to say NOT OUR PROBLEM!
Don't mention things like Signal Strength of WiFi or anything but the fact that it doesn't work with their TV but works with all the others.
Give them even an inch to say it's not our fault and you will get no help.
Hopefully your will not be the first call they get if it is a model wide problem and maybe they will come up with a firmware update to fix it.
Sounds like I am almost S.O.L.

No just that it maybe time to upgrade your TV or that there maybe something wrong with it that you hadn't noticed till now.
I would even try another input just to see if it's just a matter of a bad one.

Only had the TV about 2 years. I did open a ticket with JVC, though have done that in the past for another issue and never heard a word from them. Poor technical support. Will see what happens with this one.

The only way to get good results from tech support is to call them and keep them on the phone until they have a decent answer....
Most of the time that means getting past the guy reading from the idiot test menu that tells you the shut off or power down the unit blah blah blah....
Normally I wouldn't blame the TV but you said the unit works fine on others but not the JVC.
The only other option I can think of is to buy a cheap Audio Amp that has at least two HDMI Inputs and plug the CCast into that and let the Amp feed the TV. Then at least your gaining some capability for the money you will be spending.
I would never buy a JVC TV (I tend to stay away from Panasonic these days as well).
Samsung is the Monitor leader along with Phillips. Samsung actually makes a lot of the LED Panels the other brands use.

Don't be afraid to politely ask for your case to be escalated.
I still remember when Sony support was adamant that I unscrew my Clie NX80V's stylus to push the reset button on the back... The NX80V's stylus didn't unscrew and its reset was on the side, pushable by the non-unscrewing stylus. I humored them and pretended to unscrew it.
You could also get an off-board decoder that will "dumb things down" to PCM, but for what you'll usually pay for that, you get a better deal getting the amp with it.

LOL the Beauty of being in Broadcast...I would just call up my Broadcast rep who would have the Consumer guy who worked on the unit development call me back!
Yes don't be afraid to ask to be escalated to a higher level tech. They are available but usually only get them when you confuse the ell out of the guy who originally answered the phone by talking tech way over his head! LOL
Well Sadly I have yet to find a solution to my issue. I pretty much have a Chromecaset where only the Netflix app works on my JVC TV. Not going to upgrade my TV just to get Chromecast to work. Back to a Roku I guess.

Chromecast installed in my celica :)

I know a few have done this before but I figured I'd share
Looks great. Did the lines ever go away?

yea, i had to push in the yellow cable a lil more and rotate it a lil till I found a sweet spot.
and this method will allow any HDMI input, so you could connect a computer, xbox, etc
I got everything all hooked up but it keeps cutting out every few seconds.

Make sure your power and ground wires are firmly connected.
Do you have an update ?
This is pretty damn cool. Impressed man!
Got it working. But instead of the Chromecast I'm using the roku streaming stick. Thanks!!

Either 2 phones or a phone and a tablet for the initial setup only. After that you just need your main phone.
Awesome sauce!

So I do have a question, unless you are on Wifi with the chromecast or hotspot with your phone can you do anything without the two options I just listed?
Wait, you said you hit the video input on your head unit. Don't you just hit the aux input, or am I missing something here? I want to try this on a stock GM 2015 Intellink unit just to see if it works or not. It would be epic if it did. I remember on my old 3300BT Pioneer that I did have a menu item to get video from the aux, instead of the rear cam, did you have to change that setting? If so, my project is DOA since I can't do that.

you need a hotspot unless your car is near an open wifi network that can be used.

The Aux jack must me an A/V style port. AKA 3 black bands on the connector/socket rather than the two

Ya, stock HU's, even the new fancy screens don't have that. I could get audio, but no video. I am about ready to just go the tablet route. Thanks.
