Way to keep Bluetooth connections active in Standby? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
Having a bit of a problem... A friend wants to use his X1 with his car Bluetooth system. It connects and works fine, but the connection is dropped as soon as the phone is put in Standby (ie. power button quick push). He doesn't want to use a car charger and then just leave it on all the time, although I have said it may be the best option... He wants to just have his phone in his pocket and walk to the car, have it connect and work - just like his old phone (P990). Is it possible to get WM to leave BT connections active when phone goes into standby? Even if the phone had to be on first to connect and then put into standby and the connection stays active.
I've looked around and been unable to find any info that works.
Anyone please?
Thanks

A2DP switch... found here on xda has a great keep alive function built right in... search around you'll find it

Hmm... thanks. I'll have a look at that, but is there not some registry thing or other setting I can adjust instead? That will keep only the BT on all the time?

Can WMDC Bluetooth Sync happen automatically?

Hi, I'm pleased to say that setting up my TyTN II to sync via Bluetooth with my laptop running Vista's Windows Mobile Device Centre was a doddle. None of the nonsense I had before on WM5 and my Wizard.
However, it appears Bluetooth sync needs to be invoked manually each time from the TyTN. This makes this lovely feature next to useless.
With Nokia PC Sync for example, Bluetooth sync to a Nokia phone can happen whenever the phone comes back into range, or every 15 minutes if you so choose.
So, is there any way to specify this with Windows?
I don't think so at the moment. It's a problem within the Microsoft WM OS.
I too used to love my old Nokia 9100's capability to do this but with having so many connection variants on this unit (GPRS, WiFi and BT) Microsoft have probably opted for a safe solution.
At least with manual select, you wont have it running down your battery with lots of data traffic while its in your pocket/purse at home/work without you knowing!
Maybe we could pass this on to the Kaiser Tweak guys to see if it could be made selectable?
Worth a try!
Sure, can you do it?
Will have a go but my 'Street cred' is a little low here at the moment....
I hope one of the other patient dev guys may look at this and take it up???
your not alone
Check out these other threads. All describe different problems people are having (including mine - not being able to automatically re-pair with my car kit).
All seem to stem from the auto re-pair problem.
If a developer could help, that would be great.

Many thanks.. I've looked at those and they are mostly concerned with BT connection to audio devices.. What we are looking for is an automatic polling of your device by Activesync over BT as PCsync used to do for the Nokia. The connection has to be initiated by the SW for it to work. Cheers anyway!
Sure, they are mainly about audio, however (at least in my case) the audio is perfect when its paired.
My main concern is exactly the auto polling. I can pair my device the first time to the car kit, but every time i get back into the car I have delete the pairing and pair it manually again. This is not how bluetooth should work.
I think this is very similar to the problem the author of this thread describes.

Yep, my BT audio is good and you never know, if we start looking at auto-polling of data/stereo devices we may cure a lot of problems on here..
Thing is we may have to go around the Activesync overide (which is the slowest block on this setup!) and use a priority connect to BT similar to WM5torage on usb!
What ya think XDA???
Yeah its one of the few things I miss about my Nokia 7710 was that i walked into my house and it would sync with my computer automatically. sigh
Its definately a WM/Activesync 'Non-feature' as when you first pair your device to an Activesync capable BT PC or laptop you get a pop-up message on the WM device reminding you to disconnect your BT Activesync link to avoid draining your battery!

To turn Bluetooth on and off?

Question: I just got my first Bluetooth ear piece around Christmas time and have been using it on my drive in to work most days. Beyond that I just shut the earpiece off and stash it in the car, but I've been leaving the Bluetooth turned on, on my Tilt. What do most people around her do? Do you just leave Bluetooth on or do you shut it off and only use it when you need it? If you do turn it off regularly, what's the easiest way to go about that? Just curious what others are doing. Thanks!
only turn on when i need it [then again i used wired headsets], my wifi is always on tho
I heavily use my BT headset, I leave mine on all the time, even on the weekends when I don't have my headset with me - doesn't really matter since I recharge every night anyway...
I turn BT off when I know I won't be needing it for at least the next 3-4h.
I first assigned short press of the voice dial key to display the comm manager and later found a great little piece of software btIO:
http://www.silentservices.de/btIO.html
It will place a small BT icon on your Today screen and you can turn BT on/off by just hitting that icon.
You can also use it to switch all audio to BT handsfree ("Audio2BT" in the menu), for example if you wan't to listen a podcast via your BT handsfree and not the speaker.
I usually leave my BT on all the time as well... Only when I know I won't be using BT all day do I turn it off.
On a related note with the Comm manager. I added a 3G icon to the Comm manager and on days where I anticipate heavy voice call usage, and little data I turn off 3G and operate on GSM to extend the battery.
I usually charge every night as well.

I always have my Wifi on, I am definitely addicted to browsing the web wherever there may be a hotspot or pen network. I've found that having more than 2 radios on at any given time will severely drain the battery as opposed to just the two (the radios being cellular, wifi, bluetooth, and the GPS receiver). So as far as headsets go, I only enable Bluetooth when I know I will be using my headset.
The simplest method for me is to have some shortcut to the comm manager. I personally like the Systray HTC uses on the 8525, and so installed it on my 8925 tilt, so all i have to do is tap the little icon to bring it up. takes 2 seconds

Bluetooth always discoverable app??

Are there any app's available which allows the Bluetooth on my Hero to be set as always discoverable. My handsfree car kit used to auto connect to my old Windows mobile device but now I have to make my Hero discoverable every time I enter my car and its very annoying.
DITTO
i would love this too, as it is a pain in the arse having to activate it all the time. Another stupid "improvement" from HTC.....what the hell were they thinking ???
You can add a Bluetooth On/Off Widget on one of the home screens.
Once the Hero is paired the devices should discover themselves with no issue. Set to discoverable or not.
My car kit very very rarely does not see and auto connect to the Hero. On the odd occasion that it doesn't connect, turning Bluetooth on and off via the HTC widget usually gets it hooked back up.
Its not perfect, but TBH no less perfect than other handsets I've owned.
Bluetooth file transfer is what we are really missing.
Having a nightmare with my car kit - PARROT CK3100 LCD and T-mobile G2
I have to turn on bluetooth make it discoverable the enter the pairing code ( everytime as it does not seem to keep the code) then the Parrot LCD flashes " MEM FULL " twic and then it connects but does not see the address book
Any suggestions much appreciated

Flash it
I was having very similar problems connecting my Hero to my car Bluetooth, it just would not pair, or work , i have flashed the official HTC update rom onto my Hero and now it connects everytime, no discover mode needed, and it works like a dream, you might want to give it a go, i fixed my issues .
Devchef1
I don't know why you have to keep pairing - mine auto detects no prob - both on stock G2 rom and Modaco 2.2e.
I can help you with the address book though - put a contact on your sim card. Anything will do, just make one up. Thereafter, I think you'll find your address book syncs.
Haven't seen the mem full thing, but I do recall you can only have five devices paired to the ck3100, so maybe you need to delete a pairing?
Cheers.

Android Bluetooth Discoverable Mode
Hi!
I'm having a similar problem with trying to keep the bluetooth on discoverable mode for some longer time as well. The phone I'm working with is the Nexus One and I was hoping anyone could help finding a way to get the app to turn on the discoverable mode automatically without having to request the user every 120 seconds or 300 seconds? The API for Bluetooth really limits me from making the duration of the discoverable mode longer and allowing me to change the bluetooth setting without user permission. Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!
AndroidTeam5
That is well and great that it reconnects for many people. But, for many people it does not! I have Myn's Donut running from my sd on my HTC Touch. It never auto-connects to my Pioneer Avic-f90bt. I have to make it discoverable or turn the bluetooth off/on every time I get in the truck. When I run the phone with WM6 it always, always auto connected...always. So if the easy fix is an app to leave bluetooth on, how hard can it be for a programmer to do this. Simply saying "oh, it works fine on my phone" doesn't help us!

A2DP Bluetooth Audio interrupts

Hi Guys,
i have this problem for a long time and didn't find anything about it in web or in xda forums.
I have a HTC Dream + HBH-IS 800 Sony Ericsson Headset.
When i listen to music via A2DP the connection is not very stable...
the connection interrupts very often for about 2 or 3 seconds, then works for about 3 seconds.
This only happens when i am outside, not in buildings. I this the reason is because of interferences. The connection gets better when i move the G1 into a specific orientation (upper side up) and don't turn my head to the right
On my old Windows mobile phone i played around with bitpool (=ratio between quality and connection stability by constant bitrate) settings... is there a possibility to get the connection more stable, when playing around with this setting?!
How can this setting be changed on android?
Further information:
-ROM Cyanogen 4.2.5 but same problem on stock ROM
-HTC Dream has been replaced one by a new device -> same problem
-Headset was never exchanged, but worked perfectly on my old Touch Pro with WM 6.1
Thanks for your help
There is a known issue on the Bluetooth stack and is suppose to be fixed in the Elclair 2.0 fix, the temporary work around is to first pair and connect then disconnect and reconnect it again i'm having to do that several times a day when i use my RocketFish bluetooth stereo headset. Hope that helps
thanks for this workaround, will try it tomorrow and will post if it works for me too
hmm, didnt really work for me... no change after pairing disconnecting and connecting again.
i wonder why this only happens outside, not in buildings... another frequencys which interferences maybe?!
Be sure to disable wifi.
Not trying to hi-jack your thread. If you want me to open another i will. However this is a BT question as well.
my G1 is set to connect to my stereo in my car. Pioneer BT head unit. I find that i have to manually tell it to connect every time i get in the car. When i had a blackberry before it would just connect every time on its own without me doing anything once i made the initial connection.
Any ideas?
thanks.

Worked on Dell Streak A1.6
I have Dell BH200 headset as well, and I have the same exact problem its like the audio stutters but when I first connect it its more stutter than music so you can barely even understand the music until after 30secs when it starts to normal out.
ATM im runnning Stock 1.6 for G1, im going to try Cyanogenmod 6.0 tomorrow and see if anything changes.
but everyday I go back and forth with my laptop and phone since my headphones run for atleast 3-4 days.
wow, finally someone having the same problem.
and even the same description of the connection issues.
I recently bought a orange SanFran and, as the device is fairly cheap, a nokia bh-504 along with it.
The connection isnt stable even when I put it in my breast pocket.
As soon as I move my head to the right, the streaming stops. Completely.
I can easily stop the music when holding my hand in front of the right earpiece.
so i will try the disconnect / connect again "workaround", but I don't think that will help.
I paired the same headset with my gf's netbook and I could walk through the whole apartment and the signal was stable even through up to 4 walls.
so no one here knows how to tweak BT settings in android?

Bluetooth - Auto connect?

i've paired a few things (bt headset, parrot car hands free, computer) but it won't automatically connect to anything. i have to manually tell it to connect. is there a setting that i'm overlooking, or a tweak to allow this?
thanks.
Yeah I noticed the same thing in the car today. Maybe because of whether it is discoverable or not? When you turn that on it only does 120secs. I haven't played with it, but i sure hope it can auto connect, or at least with froyo.
It auto-connects to my car, but not to my home phone. I think that's because the car itself initializes the connection... Would be nice to figure out how to fix this, so I wouldn't have to connect manually every time I come home.

In my 10' BMW, I had to check mark to always allow the car to access my contacts. Once I did that, it would automatically connect to my car upon startup of the car.
Hope that helps.

in my '10 Genesis Coupe, I cannot get it to auto connect, even though i reset it two times and checked "always allow." This is the first phone this has ever happened with, every other one auto connected (HTC Touch Pro2 with winmo 6.5 AND a hacked android 2.0, htc hero w/ 2.0 and 2.1, n1 w/ 2.1 and 2.2, and a feature samsung phone) so I know its not the car.
Any more ideas?
What I figured out is that auto-connect on this phone just doesn't seem to work at all. The only time it auto-connects is to my 06 Acura when I start it and only if it's not already connected to anything else. But that's because when I start my car, it's the car that initiates a connection, not the phone. If I'm connected to something else (like my home phone, for example), when I start my car, and drive off, Bluetooth connection to my home phone will get dropped after I get away for more than 100 feet, but it will never connect to my car after that. And it never connects to my home phone on it's own. Very painful!:-(
My Captivate will automatically connect to my Parrot hands free device when I get into the car. I don't know which device is pushing the connection. However, I also have a Miccus BluBridge Receiver in my car plugged into the Aux jack. This device doesn't auto connect.
To get things working I have to go to the home screen, settings, wireless, blue tooth, then click on the device. A friend of mine was talking about Tasker as a possible app to use, but I don't really want to spend the money on it until I know it will do what I want. The other annoyance I have is that speaker, headset, and bluetooth volume are all the same. It looked like Tasker would solve my second problem, but perhaps not my first. Has anyone else investigated this?
Bluetooth auto connect
I too thought I had an issue with this. Mine is now working OK most of the time. One thing I discovered is that if there is more than one BT device available the phone sometimes will not connect automatically.
I wonder if this has to do with the fact that it will not connect to more than one device at a time. This is big downside for me that I hope get corrected (but please GPS first)
It won't conect correctly because there is no setting for always visible. The handsfree device searches for your phone to initiate the conection and if it can't see it it won't try to conect.

I also have a Genesis Coupe 2010 (3.8 in case you care) and my vibrant connects just as well as my TouchPro2 and my Nexus One running Foyo.
The Nexus One stock 2.1 never worked, reconnecting every couple of minutes.
My first Vibrant (same as captivate) did not work well either. I expected it was because the BT stack in Eclair did not support car profile, but after I exchanged my Vibrant due to a rattling volume key, it has worked very reliably with the GC'10. It autoconnects ad soon as I turn on the engine, without having to do anythong, followed by "transfer complete".
I leave BT on all the time. My phone is not rooted or modifief in any way, running stock software for everything.

That is not true and it is not necessary, not even during pairing, ad the connection is initiated by the phone. Once passkeys are echanged, visibility is not required.

What firmware do you have on your GC? Have you deleted all phones?
Things to try:
Delete all phones from the car (setup/delete all phones)
Restore the phone to factory settings.
Upgrade the car's radio/BT firmware (see dealership for details or try gencoupe.com)
Call ATT support (?)
Wait for froyo
Get used to
Return/sell the phone
Hope this helps

I am a tech for mercedes and we have to set the phone to always visible or it wont auto connect. It is the same way with pioneer bt radios. I am just speaking from what mercedes told us and personal experience with pairing phones. I have had the problem probobly 100 plus times at work where phones wont auto connect evan though they are paired corectly and when you change the phone to always visible it fixes it every time. I know the phone can initiate the conection, i just know they don't all do it automatically.

Never had the problem with any of the Pioneer radios we've had, and my Eclipse doesn't have that problem either. To be fair, I've no experience with MB cars, but that shouldn't be the case.
I know with my Eclipse HU, I had to initiate the connection while in the phone menu otherwise it would connect for BT audio but not for the phone. After setting up the phone it will connect as its supposed to regardless of what input I'm using.
just as an update to my initial problem... my parrot system in my car auto pairs all the time now (it just takes ~30-45 sec to do so), but the phone still will not auto pair to bt headset or computer...
I don't think its supposed to auto connect to the computer. I think its a need based connection.
And on that note, when i send a file my phone does connect. I don't use a dedicated bt headset so i can't talk about that unfortunately.

When you say 30~45 sec, does it mean from powering the car up until BT is usable through the car system? That's is normal and the duration depends on how many contacts you have in your phone book and how many phones per contact. Mine take about the same.

I agree. It is only supposed to autoconnect to devices that support the handfree profiles, if the handfree profile is set as default.
I tired turning visible on right before i started the car and it connected no problem. Really annoying. I have a pioneer as well. Too bad you can't set it to visible always. Other than that it works much better than it did with the Fuze/Any WinMo phone. Never had a phone that worked right in the car, except for my GF IPhone, works great.
I hope it works better in Froyo.
