Question Completely lost here. Tmobile to Verizon - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Afternoon all. Haven't been on these forums in some time. Started on the galaxy nexus and eventually faded away from any tinkering a few years ago. Currently using an S21 Ultra that was t-mobile locked. Got it unlocked and switched to Verizon. Trying to research everything I can to get myself on the unlocked or VZW software to make sure I've got all that I should be getting from VZW.
I've so far found samkey to change ny CSC, unlocked software and a whole bunch of other **** and I'm completely lost
Any chance I can get pointed in the right direction? Nothing seems to make sense to me for some reason.
Sorry to come off as a bit stupid, I'm just very much out of practice.

It probably work better on AT&T I think.

The phone has all the radios needed, just have to update the software/csc to make use of them.

You're kind of in no mans land. Unless you have a very good reason to change service to Verizon, Tmobile would be the best option. Samkey won't change your Primary CSC to VZW. Verizon Firmware will remain in conflict with your TMO Primary CSC. Hard to say what compatibility issues this evokes. Samsung is making it more challenging to mix and match Firmware/CSC's. If you have a Multi-CSC device normally you SHOULD be able open the dialer and enter *#272*IMEInumber# (In the thread replace IMEInumber with your actual IMEI Number). Press the Dial Icon, you should see a screen with the list of available CSC codes for your device. Select VZW and tap the Install option. Another user with similar issues stated Android 11 eliminated Multi-CSC options so if you are bent on having Verizon as your Service Provider give it a shot and see what happens.

Circumstances changed and my reception has taken a serious downgrade. Add in the awful experience getting the network unlock done. I changed to VZW already.

Well if you're fine being on "unlocked" firmware, just flash to G998U1

Honestly, I haven't flashed a phone since my galaxy s5. I'm in the exact opposite situation you're in. Was going to try flashing tmobile firmware, and saw this post. Curious if it all worked out for ya

Not hard at all. Fire up ODIN, use the XAA (Or whatever region you are) U1 firmware, flash the wipe CSC in ODIN, boot, insert VZW SIM when it asks. Done.
*Edit I flashed a Tmob to unlocked in about 5 minutes. Check the U1 firmware post for instructions. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...1-firmware-links.4220223/page-6#post-85580269

AT&T Note 3 SM-N900A on T-M network issues?

Hello everyone, based on extremely poor ATT coverage in my area comparing to T-M I plan to purchase AT&T Note 3 SM-N900A, unlock it and use with T-M SIM card.
Would I face any issues in terms of unlocking and data coverage?

Soooo.... why would you want to buy a N900A. I feel like we are missing some piece of info. What about getting the N900T and having the best of both worlds. The modem on the N900A is more restricted than the Tmobile version (surprise surprise).

Really? I'm glad I asked prior to spending the $$$
Other than the firmware the phones are identical, correct?
Right now I borrowed Note 2 AT&T SGH-I317 and it seems (to me) to work OK on T-Mobile.
Yes, the Note 2 was one of the last phones before ATT went crazy and started locking down everything. You could enable the AWS bands of tmobile on the ATT note 2. Here is a guide for the N900T if you go that route. Many of us are doing it. You can use it on either carrier. If you are going to use tmobile you might as well use the wifi calling also. It's free and only on the N900T.

I know. My point is that the N900T works perfectly on ATT and Tmobile. It works on both carriers and is the most up to date. The N900T has had J7 for a week where the ATT model just is now getting J5. The carrier specific features like wifi calling are not on the N900A.
Also if you read in that thread I list the fcc bands that are active on the N900A compared to the N900T. They are more restricted than the Tmobile version.

att sim in n900t? HSPA+&LTE?
Sorry for barging in just a quick question and this thread seems to be the most logical place to ask. Anyway, I have AT&T and just got the Note 3 n900a. If i got a T-Mobile version n900t and put my AT&T Sim in it if i unlock it, will i be able to use it with AT&T's data like hspa+ and LTE or will i just be limited to EDGE. Only reason i ask is because like you say AT&T is going nuts with locking everything down and Im sure its going to be a pain in the a** for the Devs to unlock the bootloader so we can (when it comes) flash custom recoveries and roms. Just like with my att galaxy s4. I was happily rooted and at the time i didnt flash a rom yet i was waiting to find one i like. (mind you i was on the MDL build) and as forgetful as i am just being stock rooted i never froze the samsung software update and it updated to MF3 build and wasnt able to fash a recovery. so i unrooted, reset flash counter and did a warranty exchange and was lucky to get one on still on the MDL build. the second i got that i rooted flashed CWM recovery and flashed a custom rom so it wouldnt update on me. I just dont want the same situation for when the devs unlock the bootloader and get a flash able recovery so just thinking maybe a tmobile note 3 with my att sim may be the way to go to avoid that. lol Not like the note 3 needs any custom rom with the beast of a phone it is but sometimes i like to switch up and use stock/aosp android.
Thanks and sorry for the paragraph here and my apologies if i asked in the wrong spot,
Dave

Unlocked firmware to Verizon S8

Has anyone tested yet the SM-G950U1 firmware from Updato.com in your Verizon S8 yet? prior to the S8 i had the 7 Edge with unlocked firmware and worked just fine, just wondering if this is official build on the net.
It is and it works. I'm using it now. Gear VR supposed to work also but I don't have one to say for sure.

Honestly I can't remember but I'm pretty sure it was either modified .12 or the unmodified version. I did update to the Canadian firmware first though because the U1 want available at the time.

I thought all the US variants of SM-G950U were bootloader-locked and hence we couldn't root. Are you guys saying that with this U1 firmware, it's unlocked and hence we can root? Link? I'm very skeptical this works.
Nobody said it was bootloader unlocked. It's carrier unlocked without any carrier bloat.

No, the firmware comes from the unlocked S8, which means is bloat free, has nothing to do with root.
I've had the U firmware for a couple of weeks and it works great. Just that there's no video calling. Haven't tried wifi calling yet. Those are two features I've barely used. Battery life is great. I think sprint forums are close to root so I might root after they get everything worked out.

Does Verizon's visual voice mail and HD Calling work?
Verion Video calling is no big deal for me, but I have used Wifi calling once or twice from a store that had no Verizon coverage, but had free wifi. I could live without it, but it would be a nice to have. Then again, no bloat, and some of the Samsung features like Cloud Backup would be cool.
Can this be flashed without tripping Knox/Safe flags? And/or is it easy to flash back to stock Verizon without tripping?

Yes, the HD calling works. Calls are extremely crisp. It's as if you were making a Messenger call over Wi-Fi. It's night and day.
I have the Verizon G950U variant and I'm looking for root, sadly this model doesn't have the "OEM Unlock" option under Developer Settings so I can't flash it without tripping Knox or my phone locking up.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use the Tracfone S8, and flash the Verizon S8 firmware to it? I followed steps from another site and it gave me a firmware with Cricket, Metro pcs, and T-Mobile bloat on it and it was most definitely not Verizon. Anyone have any ideas what might have went wrong? Downloaded Verizon firmware direct from SamMobile but that was what I got. Any ideas or help will be greatly appreciated, hope I'm putting this in the right place rather than start a new thread. Any help, tips, guides, download links, etc. will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

I'm pretty sure that if you were to flash any rom or recovery other than the stock (and maybe even that, I'm not sure), it will trip Knox. Your phone might give you the whole "SEAndroid is not Enforcing" boot screen. This happened to me on my Galaxy Note 5, I even tried reflashing it's sitting in my drawer, lol.
I wouldn't take the risk unless you have been given a spare Galaxy S8 by Samsung to expirement with. It's a little too risky for me
I may be an idiot, but I do know that OEM unlocking isn't available in Dev options. I got my Galaxy S8 a few weeks ago and not quite ready to tamper with it.

Wasn't aware of that, I haven't seen anything on xda about it. Will other carrier's SIM cards still work on different roms?
You're kidding right? Those threads were one of the earliest ones posted since the phone was released. If you have an sim unlocked device, it'll work fine, its the same limitation as every other sim locked device. I converted my Vzw S8 to the US unlocked version since Vzw LTE phones come sim unlocked already. Using it on MintSim (Tmo) and it works perfectly fine. Have Wifi calling and VoLTE. If you have any other carrier phones, you'll need to have it sim unlocked to be able to use other providers even if you flash that carrier's rom.

Multi-line settings in Unlocked s10

Does anybody know if the unlocked s10 will have access to Multi-line settings or has had experience with previous unlocked variants having access?
On T-Mobile this setting is specifically used for native "Digits" functionality without having to use an app. It's the only concern I have purchasing the unlocked variant.
I can't speak for the S10. The Note 9 however has built in Digits support in the TMobile variant, but requires downloading the app for the US unlocked variant. Chances are the S10 is also like this.

So I had Unlocked S8 on T-Mobile and I believe S9 and S10 might have the same thing. Basically unlocked version only had: WiFi Calling, Band 12 and VoLTE and there was no Milti-Line setting, unless if you get T-Mobile branded phone. What I have done to my S8, is I flashed it with T-Mo firmware and got all the features without bloatware
This time I ordered S10e unlocked and upon getting it, will inspect and see which features unlocked model will offer and if need be, will flash to T-Mobile firmware

When you say that you didn't have any TMobile bloatware when you flashed the TMobile firmware, are you referring to the general TMobile apps (like TMobile account app, VVM, etc)? or are you referring to some other 3rd party apps that TMobile puts on post-firmware. I always thought the TMobile apps would be there if flashing TMobile firmware, but I could be wrong.

3rd party apps, for example "Lookout" antivirus app wasn't there and other that T-Mobile might put there. These apps need to be disabled and can't be uninstalled. I am fine with T-Mobile account app and VVM. When flashing, just need to flash main firmware files(4 of them) and the 5th one was userdata, which has all the unneeded stuff
When you do this, don't you void something that doesn't let you use samsung pay, etc?

Not a big deal as there were times when T-Mobile for example would release monthly security patches couple of weeks earlier and possibly the Android upgrade version early too(not always though). As I understand that Samsung is obligated to release an update for carrier branded phones and then can released for their unlocked units. If you would want to flash your phone down the road, you could. It is just the process may not be as straight forward as flashing unlocked model
Ok one thing I learned today as I was setting up my s10+. The Multi-line feature is still not activated in S10+ (most likely in other s10 variant as well). I spoke with Tmobile Digits team and it was just confirm to them yesterday that S10 doesn't support multi-line yet. The only way to use DIGITS is trough the digits app. It's definitely a bummer.
I was also told that the same situation applies to the previous phones during launch (S9 or Note9) where it wasn't initially activated. It was delivered through a software upgrade afterwards. So I'm hoping this software update arrives sooner than later.
Hope this helps other member's using DIGITS.

I took multiple tries on chat and call. Luckily I got forwarded to DIGITS team and the person knows exactly the issue and is not reading off knowledge base or written instructions.
Hopefully it arrives soon as I don't want to use the DIGITS app for it.
T-Mobile DIGITS team has actually been telling customers that the native multiline feature will not be coming to the S10 or supported on other devices anymore because they destaffed that dev team. They are phasing out the feature. Absolutely horrible decision. The DIGITS app is hot trash. They have a **** load of customer pissed about it. Especially in the business segment like me. There's a scathing thread over on the T-Mobile's forums about it.
So, now T-Mobile DIGITS experts are telling people that they are waiting on an update from Samsung to make the feature possible again.
So, I don't what the **** is going on. It's ****ery.
Unless we hear something directly from Samsung, everything is now just hear say. I'm still hoping for a software update to push out the feature.
Actually, the multi-line setting was garbage. Even on my previous Note 8 and current unlocked Huawei P20 Pro, I use the DIGITS app. Luckily, with previous T-Mobile lines, got DIGITS for free. For new customers and new lines, I think it costs some monthly fees.
Thank you!

Hey, thank you so much for posting this. I tried to contact thru customer support, Twitter, calls, walk-ins.. Seems like T-Mobile employees aren't aware not only of this issue, but of the option at all..
don't mean to resurrect this old thread, but i got my S10 a few days ago and just got off the phone with the DIGITS support, after being transferred numerous times by people that didn't know what i was even talking about. the guy said that samsung told them (tmobile) a few months ago that they are removing multi-line settings from all new devices and that users need to start using the DIGITS app instead. he even said that with any further updates on the phones that currently have multi-line settings, the updates will actually remove those settings from the phones. pretty crappy if you ask me.
I'm still using a Samsung S7 with multi-line set to On, with T-Mobile. I didn't like their Digits app, much prefer the phone's native multi-line ability. However, as others above have said, T-Moble Digits support told me that Samsung was going to remove that ability. For now, it still works albeit buggy. I have to turn the phone off then on multiple times a day to keep the second line working properly. Does anyone know another Android phone that supports multi-line with T-Mobile, but correctly?

Advice for getting a v40

I want to get a v40 to replace my Redmi Note 7
I use T-Mobile but know not to get the T-Mobile v40. So I was curious if it would be better for me to get a different one and unlock it or what should I do?
Any advice would be great because I don't want to put my self in a pickle where I have a nice paperweight
No need to get a TMo version.
A cross flashed Sprint V405UA to LG v405QA will work on TMo and get all TMo bands, plus TMo VoLTE and TMo VoWi-FI and TMo HD Voice. I know because that's the model I bought, cross flashed, and use on TMo.
I see no reason why a cross flashed Verizon or ATT wouldn't be equally good. But I can't speak there from personal experience.
But there's no cross-flashing possible on a TMo version. Once TMo, always TMo.

I saw you in some other posts and I was hoping to get you to respond to this. Thank you. I'll have to keep my eye out to see if I can find a sprint one. I like my redmi note 7, but there are many features that I want that it just simply doesn't have. But are there any other weird quirks I should know? Again, thank you.
Thanks for kind words. I seem to have a bit more time on my hands now ... I wonder why ....
The only weird quirks I think are worth mentioning is that it is not easy to root and install TWRP. Several have had issues doing so. It can be done, I and others are living proof, but it's not for the fainthearted. You'll have to bounce back and forth between several threads to get it right. There's no one comprehensive guide. If you're not looking to go that route, there really are no quirks.
As for sourcing one, I picked up mine, a mint condition device, off of eBay for $145. A steal for a phone of this caliber. They seemed to have upped the price in the meantime.

Troubles with getting TWRP working don't bother me. I don't mind that. I love messing with things a little too much. Also, with that link that you sent, although the listing said you can't use third party software to unlock it, you still can. Correct? (Well the listing you sent said that it was sprint only, but not specifically unlocked. But it showed me a similar one that is $170 that says it's sprint locked)(also that because it technically isn't software that you're using to unlock the device.)
And I do wonder why you would have more free time on your hand, I could never tell why...
In many cases, these eBay vendors have no idea what they are selling or what "tethers" come with which phones. See here's the thing. If the device is paid off, it can't/shouldn't be carrier locked. You own it free and clear, and should be able to put it on any carrier with which the phone is compatible.
From reading these forums, I knew I could convert (cross-flash) a v405UA (Sprint) device over to a v405QA (US version) which would enable more bands (that I needed/wanted for my eventual migration to TMo). And if the device in that listing was somehow actually carrier locked to Sprint, I knew I could get Sprint to unlock it. I had Sprint, I knew I was going to use the v40 for a while on Sprint, so I could easily verify its carrier unlocked-ness, and could correct it if needed.
But I didn't need to. The v405ua (which was originally attached to Sprint at some time in the past by a different customer) came to me carrier unlocked. Three weeks later, I had that same device, crossflashed, rooted, with TWRP, on TMo happily making use of the extra TMo bands, VoLTE and VoWi-Fi, and HDVoice (none of which a non-crossflashed v405UA could).

Ok, so if it isn't paid off then the seller is selling a bad phone, and they should list that in the description.
I'll buy the $170 mint condition v40 because it's a good price for the phone, and I'll have something to mess with. Thank you, again. I appreciate all the help.
It'll be nice to have a nicer phone again. I loved my S8 before I broke the screen, and after I had modded it.

I have gotten twrp working along with being able to install linageos
Only issue is that it asks for a password and I don't know what to do from here. I need to sleep.... I've been at this for far too long

Took me like 3 minutes of reading. After wiping data it is fixed. That was easy

CSC wont change from VZW/VZW/VZW

Hey, I bought a used unlocked S10 recently since my old phone couldn't do VoLTE. However, I am still unable to enable VoLTE, this is likely due to the fact that my carrier software is still VZW and I am running on an ATT reseller network. I have flashed my phone with two different unlocked ROMs (one from frija and one from sammobile) but my carrier services software version never changes... Is there something I'm missing? I am happy to provide any information that would help
I've run into similar issues with some phones, and it doesn't seem to be software related. In my case, I needed TFN (Tracfone) and my phone switched over properly, but my wife's would not. I ended up returning that one (Ebay purchase) and getting one that was already TFN to fix the issue. I was simply not-able to get it to change. Note that my phone was SPR, and did change... while hers was VZW and would not... so maybe that has something to do with it?
I will also note that ATT tends to be very annoying to deal with, from what I've read. They seem to be sticklers for using only phones with THEIR IMEI. I've also read here that they refuse to run VOLTE on unlocked phones, in general. So that could be another issue you're going to have. My suggestion is to dump them, as they are getting to be quite awful from what I'm seeing (and I thought VZW was bad, which is why I dumped them for TFN! Of course, VZ bought TF anyway, so they keep pulling me back to them!)
