Wireless GPS for XDA - MDA, XDA, 1010 Accessories

Hi All
Iwant a wireless GPS plug in for my XDA
Has anyone tried the Kane GPS system for XDA
view at GPSX URL
http://store.securehosting.com/stores/sh203370/shophome.php
It sounds too good to be true as it is wireless and has no bills.
A bit pricey though but worth it for me if it is wireless and does what it says on the tin
How does it compare with the other GPS XDA compatable devices
All Help appreciated
Cheers
Ric.

i don't believe that is wireless.. i think you are confused between the ads. i tried to investigate for similar products and could not find any. the ad fir the xda model doesn't show any wiring harness but it doesn't say its wireless. i bet they just left it out of the picture.

The only "wireless" systems are based on bluetooth as far as I know, if I were you I would get a cheap Haicom gps for 80 quid and then use a "copy" of tomtom which in my view is the best, the haicom comes with lead and charger plug and works a treat. If you are interested go to www.gpsw.co.uk, look for GPS smart antenna. The other option is at www.mobtech.co.uk they have a very good unit as well and comes with mapping software bundle for 86 quid plus vat and postage. The cable is not a great hindrance, just leave the gps in the dash until needed, the only other thing you will need is a car mount, you can pay silly money for these, but I have found that the cheaper ones work as well if not better, I got a fone holder from poundland that works fine, I have also used strong velcro, the harder stuff stuck to the dash and a piece of the fluffy side stuck to the rear of the XDA.

Anybody with Pocketop Keyboard?

Has anybody on this forum any experience with the Pocketop Keyboard for the XDA?

It is much slimer than the others.

A mate of mine has one, and while it's quite nifty and certainly compact, PPC IR ports tend to be at the top of the device so a special PDA stand with a mirror to reflect the IR to the keyboard needs to be used. A bit strange, but effective.
That is the purpose I asked. I don't understand where the keyboard transmitter is !!?? :?:
Their pics don't show the XDA.

I have it and have used it, is a great little keyboard, and It works well with the Xda (2002 & 2003 versions).
the flipping screen app doesn't work, but you don't need it anyways, if you position the device in the stand in a way that the IR can get it. It takes a little practice but works fine.
so far is the best buy I have made, I got it at Compusa for $30 a while back, I have seen it at $100 regular price.
Thanks Yorch for the info.

Doesn't the IR use a lot of battery power? Also I think you need a clear line of sight which I imagine could get disturbed if you are on an airplane. A serial connected device seems like a better alternative.
I've got the Darfon keyboard that I bought from MobilePlanet for $119.
It is a great accessory. It is a bit expensive, especially considering it's the same keyboard as made for the IPAQ, with 4 different wires. (that's about $50!) I would recommend it though.

Torque app = GPS Fix

So last week, I ordered a bluetooth OBDII scanner off of ebay for $35 in the states, or you can get it for $25 from Hong Kong and wait 3 weeks for shipping. Anywho, I installed all the CWM GPS fixes that Da_G has posted and they greatly improved my already decent GPS, took a 45 minute drive and only lost track 4 times.
I just received my bluetooth OBDII scanner and synced it up with my car and played with it with the Torque app and tinkered with the settings. While it was syncing, I noticed the satellite icon on the status bar had a lock, so I decided to take that same 45 minute drive, with navigation on, and it led me here turn by turn without dropping lock and with the accuracy within feet.
I'm still out driving around, but I will update this post more and take screenshots and post them when I get home later.
Screenshots. When I go back out tomorrow, I'll see if I can record a screencast as well.
Can I get a link for the scanner you bought please?
nevermind, i found them.....
Looks like an awesome tool..... I might just order this!
Please post a link...I need to get this

Any one of these will work, you just decide how much you want to pay
And just download Torque from the market. I recommend the full version, it is worth it.
hate to say it but I moved on to the streak and I get a lock instantly and it is spot on to 1 meter and works perfectly in any doors.
I am convinced the built in GPS is far superior to the Samsung engineering.
When I had my captivate I thought my GPS was great. Wow was I wrong.
Still running stock 2.2 on my streak with zero mods and it is easily twice as fast speed wise then my craptivate with phoenix/firefly
I wish there was a class action lawsuit against Samsung. They lost me totally from buying any of here products ever again.
Why am I here? lurking for cool bits and pieces for my streak. Latest gem was Armani font.

I already get ok gps from samsung. Not as well as my previous htc but for the price I will be giving this tool a try
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Regardless of fixing the GPS, the actual tool is still pretty useful for people that like to know what's going on with their car. All the features in the app are spot on - RPM, MPH, voltage, vacuum, MPG's, horsepower, torque - All the readings for me are dead accurate.
So for me, this app + the bluetooth scan tool were a great buy. The improved GPS was just a perk

Good for you....see ya!
So how would this improve the GPS?
Magic.
I would assume the same way a bluetooth gps dongle would work.
I understand how a bluetooth dongle would work but not how this would. Looking forward to seeing more results. Might be one anyways.
The bluetooth dongle is built strictly to be a booster to pick up gps signal, so when you pair with that, gps locks from the dongle, not the phone. The phone is not built strictly for gps, so it's got a ton of components interfering with the signal.
When the obd 2 scanner is plugged in, it is connected to every electrical component in the car, powers/grounds/signal wires, thus turning the car into a 2,000 pound gps receiver. So when you pair it through bluetooth, satellites aren't tracking a 5 inch phone, they're tracking the car instead.
Have some running around to do today. Will try to post more results later.

I fail to see the technical side of that, the antenna off the gps chip will not get rewired via bluetooth through the ODB sensor and into the cars internal wiring.
Its possible that while paried using the gps is slightly better due to the fact that they are on the same chip, one would actually think it would get slightly worse though.
more likely its just chance that made it better that one time,
imo

I was just taking a stab in the dark in my last response, I really have no clue.
The point of this thread was just to state that when I paired my obd scanner with my phone, in 3 different vehicles, driven to 3 different locations, I noticed a significant improvement as far as tracking was concerned.

[Q] Best Bluetooth Car Stereo

Hey fellow xda members just wondering if you guys had any opinions on Bluetooth stereos for cars. I'm getting a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Wednesday and the radio is stock which is a cassette. I've always used my aux port but wanna be able to use something with a remote and no wires. I already have a universal dock for my Nexus and will also look at work to see what radios we have and what my discount is (Best Buy). Just want some suggestions on brands or specific units. I saw this one but still wanna look
here's mine
works perfectly with my NS, used with LiquidA1 too, it bridges any sound from the phone
sorry, page is in italian, maybe you'll find an english page :|

Fyi, Bluetooth ready sounds to me like it needs an attachment to work.

Thanks man! Didn't even notice that
Update got one of these plus installation, cord, and dask kit for $207 with employee discount. I love it can make calls, see's my phonebook, usb port, remote, and auto connects to phone
Bump.
Any more recommendations for the bluetooth car stereo?

Anybody know of a good car cradle?

As per title really...
We have 40+ cars where I work that are just about to swap over to Desire C's from our old Orbit XDAII's and was wondering if anybody had any recommendation for car cradles. Priority would be robustness (our drivers are notoriously heavy handed with their tech) and preferably with the charger built in.
I don't seem to be able to find much online specifically for these units, just a lot of tatty looking universal stuff that's not really going to cut the mustard.
All suggestions gratefully received, thanks in advance good people of XDA

Hey, new person buying a chinese unit (help please)

I don't know where to post this so I'm posting here due to the amount of other Erisin posts.
I'm in the middle of looking for a double din head unit for my Rav4, this Erisin ES4763C head unit has come up on eBay / Erisin website when googled.
After reading a lot of reviews its putting me off spending around £250 on this head unit with camera, reverse camera, DAB+ etc.
I'm after a head unit that will do almost everything and it seems to fit the bill.
I'm wanting to know are they easily fixable, are they able to refund money if said item is broken? I'll be paying via PayPal to get some protection.
I like to research before I plunge in. Youtube videos seem to have helped a bit on what they do and they seem ok.
Would you recommend buying one or should I stay clear? - Just don't want to end up looking like Homer Simpson in my car with separate things like dash cam, satnav and bluetooth headset. (Season 14, episode 20.) (google "homer simpson car gadgets" since im not allowed to post links yet.)
After a bit more research, I've come across Xtrons PCD67HGT that does all the same stuff as Erisin but without the TV option. (But who drives with TV on?)
I honestly don't know which head unit to go for.
I'm after a head unit that can do these:
DAB+
Dash cam record + speed
Sat Nav
Reverse camera
Hands free phone
Steering wheel control
WiFi + 4G (or connect to phones 4G. Is this possible? So I don't have to buy another sim card?)
DVD + mirroring for back passengers.
What head units are there for me? Vehicle is a RAV4 2004 gen 2 D-4D.
I have around £260 to spend.
Thank you.

honestly stay away from any HU from china... they are all headaches one way or another. Go with something expensive.. like alpines andriod unit.. your looking at 1200 CAN. but w9rth every dime i sure wish i did and i use to install them for a living.
I got a seicane s0480.. had a bad circuitboard they sent me a new one.. now i cant use my screen..
Eonon have issues they all do. Spend your money on something worth it with less hassle
Im using Xtrons TA701PL and it really runs like a charm.
Some of the most important setups are there, and its got expansion slots for everything and then some.
Sound is way better than i expected, perhaps some would argue that the amp is a little to the lower side, but its still able to blast out your speakers if you want to.
Ive tried a various amount of the unbranded CH HU´s from Ebay/Amazon, but nothing compares to Xtrons, i even had one of these unbranded ones having 20 mins to open spotify!, on my Xtrons, its there allmost instant.
Support wise, they do have a forum, but its one of those forums where you cant just post anyways, but they have to allow your post to be shown, so its 110% useless, BUT they do have a online chat, where you allso can leave an email, and they do respond pretty quickly.
I had 1 issue with mine, a faulty cable, and they sendt me a new one, at no charge.
Only real wierd issue software wise i have, is some apps seems to see BT as turned off, this seems to be a trend among Android HU´s, every single one ive tried has this, it can sometimes interferer with some apps that need BT to be activated.
I bought mine directly at Xtrons

Im close to buying the PA77HGTP, reverse camera, DVR camera comes to around £251. I'm close to clicking the button but something's putting me off. They recently brought out 8.0 with 4gb ram. But doesn't fit my car
There's no videos etc for showing the newer Xtrons working that I can find.
Hmm just don't know what to do.

Main question is: how good are you at DIY electronics? If not good at all you might want to consider buying a unit from a specialized company that will also set it up in your car.
After using several chinese HUs here are my findings:
All the units I have seen have low quality glossy LCD screens. If you live in a sunny area don't expect to see anything on the screen.
There is no QC at the end of the production cycle. That is why people receive units with non functioning screens or get weird errors from units with bad internal connections.
System architecture is unnecessarily complicated AND has serious limitations. For example you cannot: use a BT dongle or use a generic camera with the DVR app.
Bluetooth phone connections are generally of poor quality.
Some 4G modems work, others don't - no drivers.
Dual-zone (i.e having satnav on the HU screen and play a movie on the back screens) isn't generally available and you should specifically ask for that.
Steering wheel controls work as long as you have a resistive- type SWC. If not, additional modules are required.
Older units (with Android 4.4 or 5.1) have too little RAM and may become extremely slow.
With that said you can still find good value for money, just make sure you talk to the seller before paying anything and confirm every single feature for your specific car model. Chinese will answer any question before sale and pretty much disappear after sale.
I cannot comment on DAB+, never used it.
