handsfree for xda 1 need help and input please. I am lost - MDA, XDA, 1010 Accessories

Hi everybody,
Well I thought I solved my problem, but the guz who wanted to help me, let me down.
I wanted to make a good handsfree for the xda. I let go from the idea that I could involve my car stereo (no in at the device) so I wanted to make a solution with a seperate loudspeaker and a seperate microfone.
But the guy said to me that he will not take the risk...
What risk?
I myself have no technical abilities at all :-(
Cant solder have no idea about how to solve it. The solutions offered on the market seem to be verry bad and expensive. Bad sound, bad micro etc. I also wanted to involve a GPS mouse in the system.
It is clear to me how it should work, but I cant do it, being such an technical looser. If I would have to solder anything I would have one big bunch of connections, soldered together.
I have money I could pay for it....If I have to.....
Anyone there who thinks he could help me?
Please, I am desperate and lost...
Thanks
WK

maybe that bring some explanation as far as audio ....
cables are concerned, the little descriptive reading show you different audio options you can consider for you in-the-car equipment

Hi Monica,
Thanks a bunch.Tough it was not exactly what I was looking for it helped me further a bit.
I wanted to make a car kit for my car. But as I look deeper in the subject I might go for a headset. Is there any way to get the plugs in europe?
I would like to get one, but ordering it in the US will cost a fortune.
Any idea?
Thanks
WK

WK, i'm currently in the process of building a fully featured car kit for the XDA, I'm waiting on a PCB at the moment, but as soon as it arrives I will be trying to get the project finished.
The solution uses an external mic (not the XDA's) and provides line out via RCA's, and finally a telephone mute signal for incar stereo.
I will post when the project is complete, and if all goes well, I can put together some sort of guide for you guy's if you wish..
Cheers

Hi Neil
I'm in the phase of making experiments with my XDA1 and external car kits.
I already prepared a XDA connector with a 2Mt cable that have all the connector signal:
-Power supply
-Car on wire
-Mic in
-Stereo Out
-RS232 (for my GPS mouse)
-USB (for future use like external HD!)
I'm now tring to find a solution for the "radio muting"
Can you give me infos on where you find the project?
Bye

I am keen also to get more info on that

XDA and GPS

I am thinking of getting an XDA to use incar for GPS. I have read some articles on this site but they all seem to approach the problem half way through. Can anyone suggest the best GPS device, cradle, software and anything else that is needed
thanx
gps for xda
try www.routeplanners.co.uk, or www.tomtom.com for the superb TomTom Navigator2 packages for XDA.
Good luck Chop!

Zed,
I would consider buying one of the new generation XDA's (XDA II). They are supposedly equipped with bluetooth. The main advantage with this would be the possibility to buy a bluetooth GPS mouse, or a standalone bluetooth enabled GPS reciever.
The problem with the non-bluetooth GPS mice is their need to use the serialport at the bottom of the device to communicate. If you wan't a car mount kit with amplified speaker built into the back of the cradle, they are only sold as powered mounts which use the serialport for charging.
Thus you would have to use the GPS mouse with charging capabilities and let the charging dongle for the mount with amplified speaker hang loose.
Or you could buy a car mount without power, but then you would not have the amplified speaker functionality.
The amplified speaker functionality is great for spoken directions from some the map softwares available.
Here's a link to a car mount with amplifying speaker:

I have bought one of these, but I have not recieved it yet.

I first tried Tomtom bluetooth but often ecounter no power for long distance travelling. I sold it afterwards and switched to a wired solution with in car charger. It is perfect.
Details. pls. refer to the link below. It also works with Orange SPVM1000, Imate, MDA, IPAQ etc.

Wish you will be successful in chosing one best suitable for you.
Your profile doesn't say what country you're in, and the answer varies by location. In the USA, Routis is a top-notch application for navigation. Pharos is absolute garbage. Deluo, the company that makes Routis also makes a very nice GPS receiver that works well with the XDA I and XDA II.
Bluetooth GPS receivers are rather silly, in my opinion. Totally pointless, since you need to power both the PDA and the GPS, so...you might as well wire them up. The Deluo kit has a nice arrangement with a lighter socket and a single cable up to the device to carry both power and the GPS data.
I would like to know how you get on with the Arkon, I have the same one and it is unusable, every time the phone changes to a different cell you get that doomp-de-doomp sound, when the phone rings the noise from the speaher due to direct rf breakthrough is absolutely atrocious and makes the system unusable.

IR Remote Control Transmitter Module

Has anyone tried the remote control software Total Remote with the related infra red transmitter module on the XDA(http://www.griffintechnology.com/griffinmobile/totalremote/index.html)
I am trying it with the XDA II.
To send it works fine, but I am having big trouble to make it learn.

More details on this product
I have checked the website but cannot find out more details.
What hardware does the product come with? It looks like a small round "ball" and from the website sounds like it plugs in via the speaker socket.
How does this "ball" attach to the PDA?
Do you have to use the earphone socket on the PDA for the "ball" to work? If so does that mean all sounds are directed through the "ball" and you get no sounds from the PDA until the headphone jack is unplugged?
at least judging from that ipaq picture is does use the audio connector because thats where the ipaqs connector is
Here is what I discovered with my experience using the Total Remote:
1st- Yes it is like a ball with two (they claim) powerfull IR trasmitter (see site)
2nd - Yes it goes on the earphone jack
3rd - Yes you lose the sound while using it. But the you just need to lose the conector a little not take it all off.
4th- Since the conector in the XDA II is proprietary, you will need to buy a special adaptor. I found one at expansys and it work pretty well, plus it is small and is curved, so if you use the standard XDA II case you can bend the wire and conector to the side of the case and plug the TR module, you then can adapt some kind of tape or leather on the side of it to keep it protected and tight with the case.
5th - The software promises to be far better then the pronto from philips. In a matter of fact it comes with a module that let you use the files used on the pronto software but they don´t appear to be as good as thee Total Remote one.
6th - The module and software will work very fine to TRANSMIT and also from a good distance (large rooms)
BUT NOT EVERYTHING IS A SEA OF ROSES: Lets enumerate the bad points.
1st - And most important, the XDA II is not capable of receive any IR signal from any remote controle and I tryed more the 15 , with diferent distances (even with the IR window of the XDA II and the remote controler windows touching each other) and diferent time pressing the buttons. If it can´t receive it cant learn, if it can´t learn it useless, unless you use any of the pre determined profiles, wich I do not because I bought this for customization. And no the module will not work to receive the signals only the IRda port of the XDA II.
2nd - By needing the adaptor you rise the cost of the entire package.
3rd - The Techsupp of Griffing technology is very bad. They do not read my emails with attention, they do not have much interest to solve problems or they are really dumb regarding the matter including their own software and module and they do not force themselves (creativity and imagination) to try a workaround with their customers. Plus they are rude.
BUT there is a possible way around the learning problem. But that involves more then only the Total Remote software and hardware and the XDA II.
I did not tested this yet but I really think this can work.
As I already told you, the Total Remote let us use the pronto files, in a matter of fact it emulate the pronto software.
If you have the software to design the pronto pages, you can do it and also get the right IR codes from the Remotte Central site. There is a very good chance you can get exactly the IR code you will need for each button on your virtual control. So it is not as pratical as learning directly from the remote control, but it is a solution.
But there is a higher level of solution for this too.
If you have a Pronto, Marantz or any other remote controler that use those files on Pronto software and hardware, you can just use it to learn all the IR signals from other controls and then load it on the computer, after that you can access the IR codes from the Pronto design software and aply them to the pages of your new virtual remote that will be loaded to the XDA II and used with Total Remote.
Unfortunatelly you will not be able to use Total Remote, but only the Pronto emulator, wich I think there is some disvantage points like lower page resolution.
If at least the people in Griffin let us aply the IR code from the software , this would make things much better. But I think they are not inclined even to take suggestion.
Hope this helps.
Any questions?
Felipe
Thank you!
It was a very interesting and clear description.
Thank you for taking the time to expain us all of that.
Chris
Thanks for that
Thanks,
That was quite enlightening.
I think I'll hold off on it though. My main use would require learning I think and it sounds convoluted to get it to use these learned commands. I think I'll have to look for something else!
sure i would had liked using my xda2 as a remote but with all that it's more trouble then it's worth
that is so informative,
but its also expensive and INTENSIVE. Clever though it seems, its hard o setup and involves additional hardware. What i would have wished for...Remote Control applications that only uses the existing XDA 2 IR port...if only it could THROW signales that far.
But thanks for the info. I might try it someday, when perfected.
There is hope! This is what I am waiting for!
Hi!
Have a look at this SD to IR remote:
http://www.novii.tv/blaster/
it now works only with PALM (on just with a few model) but the the developer promises he is developing a version for PPC!!!

Yes unfortunatelly it is an expessive and very complex solution. But at least in part I did not choosed this.
I live outside USA and this make things more complicated.
I first bought the TR, then I discovered that it does not work with the earphone jack.
Since I could not get a refund from the TR because I am not in USA and I still would like to make use of it (even because I had already paid for), I then spent more money with the earphone adaptor.
And for my bad luck, the XDA II did not worked learning those controls.
The complicated part comes from the fact that now I spent more money with two pieces of hardware and since my nature is not to give up expecially with computer things, I then tryed to find another way to make it work. I even took in consideation to remove the actual IRda and substitute it with another kind of IR emitter.
I don´t have much time also but as soon as I get some I will try my theory and let you know if it work.
Meanwhile I really suggest you to buy from another company. It is more cheapper and give less headaches.

Have some1 tried to:...
To learn the codes using the biult in IR on the XDA and then replug the thing on the earphones jack to use the remote ?????
It's an obvious thing that may be overlooked.... perhaps ?letme know...
BTW I"m looking for the pin out of the Ir that goes onto the earphone jack as I hava stripped the ir from an IPAQ 2210 and wanna attach it to my XDA IIs....
any advise ???
Here is an interesting link. It seems you can record the "sounds" that infrared emits and utilize it. Although the article refers to ipod it also says it will work with pocket pc and laptop etc. 100 feet range.

ok i have a htc eris and a peripheral ir blaster that connects through the headphone jack can someone make an app that uses this to control tvs and such
who makes it
Is it the total remote made by griffin? Is it the Novii?

using bluetooth headsets as universal headsets

i always think about using my bluetooth headset for regular phone lines.. i did find two ways but none of them worked:
1- a pc software that will enable headset profile on pc so i can use my jabra with my pc but this wont solve the program because the software which i found is not stable+ ive never found a modem which would enable using windows sound system to make a "real" phone calls
2- jabra offers an adapter for bluetooth headsets.. this adapter can connect with "any" blutooth headset and converts what it receives to regular 2.5mm jack...
so if i can find any adapter that would change the 2.5mm jack to regular 3.5mm jackS then i can use any bluetooth headset with speakerphone jacks in my modem....
the problem is that i couldnt find such an adapter.. put in mind is that 2.5mm is not ordinary 2.5mm.. it has one line for mono headphones and anothet for mic.. so i need an adapter that would change this to TWO separate jacks one for mic and one for headphones...
if someone heard of such adapter please help me..
i tried to make my own adapter but i couldnt find the right tools in local stores here...
USB-Dongle?
Hi Mephistodan,
won't a Bluetooth USB Dongle with headset profile solve your problem?
Unfortunately I don't have such a Dongle myself, but heard of several people who use these for sound input/output.
If you combine these with your 'softphone', it should do the job.
cheers,

I know that radio shack in the US sells a splitter like that. It was made for multimedia where it requires a seperate plug for mic and speaker. I have one that I picked up a while ago when I was using a headset on my pc for ip phone. I had to have seperate plug for mic and heaset then, this might work for you.

Radioshock in the UK is called Tandy, I have no idea why they decided to rename it though, they carry the same product range as the USA's Radioshack

Hi Mephistodan,
no, sorry didn't have the time for the real important stuff, yet
I'd like to do what you are doing now with Cisco's IP Softphone (I know it's not a regular phone line).
Additionally, I found this @ geek.com:

Don't know if it is out yet, and what they charge for this gimmick...
OK, one should open up the eyes and READ closely
These thingy's cost a lot - like you said in your post before....

ive just ordered all the items i want to do what i want..
but the problem that im thinking of is..
how would the bluetooth headset work,, i mean.. there wont be any signal from the phone that there is a phone call or something.. will pressing answer button will do the thing???
im really afraid that there must be a specific profile on the headset or the transmitter.. i dont know..
someone can help??

Really annoyed:

I purchased the motorola HS850 a couple of days ago, seems pretty good paired up sraight away.
Problems are as follows.
The BT headset can't be used as a microphone for recording your voice, and/or giving commands to Voice Command software!!! Also i cant work out what pressing the button once quickly when not on the phone does. On normal mobiles you can announce a voice tag and it will dial the number. On the PPC (XDAIIs) it changes the icon of just headphones next to the start menu to headphones with audio coming out. Any ideas what this does? seems to create a connection to the decice, but still does not pick up audio from the BT mic!! One last thing is, on normal mobiles the HS picks up button presses etc, throught the BT speaker. No it doesn't even do that with PPC WM2003SE!!!
So in short the unit is pretty useless apart from answering calls by tapping the button on the headset. Kind of defeats the idea of a Btooth headset. Surely you would want to dial out using its built in mic? Am i just been stupid here, or should any of the above work?
Any workarounds or software that will work with BT Headsets? If not does anyone want to buy this from me for a fair price??? I mean what is the point? Can people tell me there postive uses please, or explain what im doing wrong!!! Surely if a crappy £50 mobile can utilize the features a £250 ppc should be able to, i mean come on!!
Anyone? I'm sure someone out there knows a little more about this than me? Im after some info!!!
I guess the answer is to buy the one designed for the device from O2?
As far as i know from the research i have done, it doesn't matter what h/set you have got!!
Matt
You are unfortunately right that ypu cannot control Microsoft Voice or therefore autodial with ANY headset at present. This is apparently due to the Widcomm Stack implementation (They haven't coded that part yet!).
Most users will also have difficulty with (System) sounds from the IIs presented on the headset. I believe that the new High Quality Stereo Stack has now been implemented but works with only a few headsets.
Where can the new stack be found from? or is it the 3900 stack?
I was led to believe it is in the 3900 stack but there was a CAB file floating around a while back for it (Never tried it myself so can't be of much more help I'm afraid!)
Thanks bebbo, anyone got further information on this problem at all?> I would like to get to the bottom of it, as their are hundreds of these kinda posts around all with no definative answer....Come on lets solve this and put an end to peoples suffering..... (MINE TOO!! )
Anyway, please post any information you know!!
At this time there are NO headsets that provide this function that I am aware of. If you highlight a contact, you can push and hold the headset button until it beeps and it will dial that contact.I was considering switching to the Nokia 9500, but it does not have that function either.
Maybe in the future, but not right now........Later

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) For MTCB Head Units

TPMS has beenn mentioned a few times in the original thread, but AFAIK no one has managed to find out how/if any TPMS modules will work. I bought a TPMS module from Klyde, it comes with 4 valve caps and a strange mini USB thing that I assume allows you to plug another mini USB device into the unit at the same time.
Unfortunately I cant get it to work with the built in TPMS app that started appearing in ROMs from June either on my old unit or my new one, I ve tried searching for the device in the BT app and the BT in settings but I get nothing, I m awaiting a response from Klyde.
If anyone has any ideas on how to get it to work then let me know, but its good to see TPMS hardware available for these devices - even if its not working . . yet !
Can you share link from TPMS module?
My brain is stuck what is TPMS? I am sure I should know but i don't get it
Guess youre talking about Tire Pressure Metering Sensor?
would you probably add a hint to your OP and title so others know what you mean? Remeber the non-english-speakers here
Yes this is it (Tire Pressure Metering Sensor).

I simply bought it from Klyde, there was no link, I guess you have to ask them.
It turns out it cant be used with DAB, which is why I cant get it to work - the cable to attach it is the same as the DAB module they sent me.
I m not sure if its BT or maybe NFC or something. I ll report back with results when I get it to to work
Does anybody try this TPMS solution with his HU?

Does the app work in landscape mode?
Can the app start with background mode?
Does the external (valve cap) sensor show accurate value?
I have been using this TPMS system in Volkswagen Polo and my MTCB head unit since 3 months now and couldn't be happier with it.
It activates when you press the button because it invokes the reverse camera display source every time you call it into action.

I have tried these two models purchased at Amazon and they work perfectly. I have them installed on my cars.
The only drawback is that you need Bluetooth 4.0 and HuiFei radio does not have it. I have commissioned an RX USB Bluetooth for Android on Deal Extreme, to see if it works.
So far I'm seeing it in my S5 Galaxy.

Dont know, ask the seller.
But in any case if it works with a Joyous unit it will work with ANY MTCB head unit. There is no such thing as a "Joying" head unit - Joying/CarJoying are simply re-sellers of Shenzhen Joyous head units.

Yes I think.
It looks made specifically for these HUs. So I supposed they tested them.
And screens look like built-in TPMS app that I got preinstaled on my HU (KGL). So I supposed it should work.
But I would preffer ecternal sensors, not ibternal ones. I have 4x4 which reqiires regular tire rotation and ibternal sensors are not suitable as I would need to remove and refit them on every tire rotation.
Is there external versio? I couldnt find it on AlliExpress.
The one I mentioned in my first post has valve mounted sensors and obviously works with MTCB head units

Why? Sure, if they are somehow hard coded to location its sort of funny when they might not match the picture, but you only have 4 tires. Its pretty easy to check them when they are low.
You want internal sensors for TPMS. Less chance for losing them.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cable-Bueto...Tire-Pressure-Monitoring-System-/271315933336
I understand the point about tire rotation and internal sensors. Would it be possible to make the same rotation in the app, since all sensors are doing the same thing anyway? Eg. If you rotate your right front to right rear, make the same in the app to correspond with the sensor location?
Sent from my Mi-4c using xda premium
Yes, mapping is possible. Depends on product.

Hi All,
I have also interest for this. Somebody could give some information ? It works, or any other bluetooth type, using with external attached bluetooth 4.0 dongle ?
Well, I found out most of the connections for the TPMS as Klyde didnt send me a lead - power and ground were easy same as the DAB box, then, as its just a mini usb connection its just data + and data -, I know where the one of those wires goes, and narrowed it down to 2 pins for the other, I ve tried both pins and several versions of the TPMS app, but cant get anything. I ve tried looking for BT devices on my phone I thought I found 1 but my phone wouldnt connect and the headunit's BT wouldnt see it, my phone wouldnt connect and after removing all the batteries on the TPMS it still showed up so it couldnt be that. Totally stumped, just cant get it to work.
TPMS-Type
Let me inform you that for some time I'm trying to find a TPMS system that works well with Android auto MTCB-C I have made several purchases and placements from various vendors I will mention my experience to help future stakeholders.
For GS, KD, and JY machines, the following set works very well:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/TPMS-for-SilverStrong-Android-CAR-DVD-Car-Tire-Pressure-Monitoring-System-4-Sensors-Alarm-Tire-Temperature/32803916037.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.IU13AC
It has its own very friendly app and it works with automatic start-up in the background and immediately informs if something goes wrong with the tires of the car, I recommend it for the above!
But last time I discovered another type with external valves that works very well with a Klyde machine and that's it:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Car-Tire-Pressure-System-TPMS-Only-for-Klyde-Brabd-Car-DVD-Radio-display-the-tempreature-and/32806152062.html?spm=2114.13010308.0.0.pPlup1

Let me inform you that for some time I'm trying to find a TPMS system that works well with Android auto MTCB-C I have made several purchases and placements from various vendors I will mention my experience to help future stakeholders.
For GS, KD, and JY machines, the following set works very well:

It has its own very friendly app and it works with automatic start-up in the background and immediately informs if something goes wrong with the tires of the car, I recommend it for the above!
But last time I discovered another type with external valves that works very well with a Klyde machine and that's it:

Thanks for your post - I have the Last type, Klyde themselves supplied me with it, but they did not send me the lead and they did not reply to me when I asked for it, so I had to make one, but I still cannot get it to work, could you post a picture of the lead (the end that plugs into the head unit) so I can see which wires go where (I have seen the picture in your 3rd link before, but I cannot see where all the wires go) ?
