Killing my XDA using the wrong car power cable - MDA, XDA, 1010 Accessories

My GPS HW Company has sent me a wrong car cables powering a GPS and my XDA. I plugged it in and burned the power fuse of my PDA. But the microphone of my phone is not working either as people cannot hear me when I talk! :x
Before I can try to do anything for the speaker part, I need to know what cables they have shipped me (as the company refuse to accept they have shipped this cable to me  )
The car power cable is powering a Haicom GPS on the one side and a PDA named “IC-MOI-HT for MOI 528/338” on the other side.
Does anyone know this type of PDA :?:
Would the connector also physically fit in an XDA :?:

If the connector fit, it was for an iPAQ. They use the same connector, but it is wired differently. If I recall correctly, the power pins on the iPAQ cable would go to audio pins on the XDA...very bad.

You can take a look here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/Connectors
If ti really was an Ipaq cable, maybe it helps you....
Stefan

I think you have been supplied with cable for the Mitac Mio series pda.

Thanks Cruisin
Do you think the connector would fit in an XDA ?
Or same question put differently
Does the cable arrangement for the Ipaq also applyes to this type of PDA ?

Well Well!
Impossible to know what exact cable they have sent met.
What is sure is that wallaby connector 1 2 3 & 4 were connected to power in from the car battery through that cable
I had a techni guy repairing the power fuse which burned. I'm half way now as I can power in my XAD and use the PDA part. :?
What seems to be the last problem is that my PDA turns systematically into car hand free mode when I place a call.
The screen display something like "microphone activated" (can't recall exactly). Something muse have mess with pin N° 19 I guess
CAR_ON# is connected to +6V on the car charger, it's not connected in the cradle. +6V makes the phone go to speaker mode immediately when picked up or dialling. When this pin is connected to ground, the internal mike and speaker are turned off, and audio input is taken from the audio input pin on the connector, for use in real car kits.
How to solve this case ?
Is there a component/chip that needs to be replaced on the mother board?

hi Tanguy,
I think the better way for you is to change to mainboard. That is the best solution.

Thanks.
What budget ?
Where to buy ?

I have an xda 2 mainboard that will work anywhere except uk as it is blocked owing to insurance claim, will sell for £50 plus post.

Looks good,
But I need an XDA main board

i have an xda main board from one that got the screen smashed. not tested cause i can't see anything, but i was still able to make the last call stored in the memory by pushing the talk button twice so it is probably functional. make an offer if you're interested.

Alpine Screen

Morning all
I have had an xda2 for over a year which developed a bottom power plug problem,so i bought a new plug and fitted only to discover that it will now charge whilst in cradle but wont sync to my computer. So i bought what i thought was another xda2 for spares of ebay, only to find its a xda2i with a broken screen, which i intended to change over with my good xda2 screen, now i find out that the 2 screens are different and cannot seem to be interchangable,so im left with a xda2 which wont sync and a xda2i with a broken screen, anybody any ideas as top best route to at least get one working so i can sync up and reload my tomtom?
You could sync over IR, or try a seriel cable rather than USB - if you look in the wiki at the connector diagram you can see which pins are used in USB transfer and so which ones may need re-soldering, they are different pins to seriel.
Expansys have seriel cables for a fiver.
With regards to the screen, the one in alpine fits *some* of the himalayas with the push fit connector rather than the gate connector, 2 himalayas can have 2 different screens, they only way to ensure you get a screen to work with your alpine is to buy a screen for an alpine or a faulty alpine.
Richard
Thx Richard for your reply, not sure which route to take yet.

Where can I buy the LCD Screen and how much to replace it>?
Try a seller called runpda on ebay. I bought a screen from him for my XDA2i, i would recommend buying from this guy.
Thank you for your reply.

Possible micro-USB failure problem!!

Just to bring this to light for people to watch for.
As you should already know, the micro-USB port on the 'Kaiser' generic WM device is NON-standard.
That is it only has a single tapered side to ensure the HTC audio headset fits inside it. The stock wall charger I was supplied with also has this non-standard shape so fits snug and works 100%.
Problem with this is that any 'Third-party' or what we would actually call STANDARD micro-USB connectors, can move around within this port with a large degree of movement (most chargers and USB cables we all use!) thus causing damage to the delicate pins/PCB connections within, specifically to the non-tapered side.
It is my opinion (and you can shoot me down on this if you desire) that many failures of chargers and computer recognition can be attributed to this.
Please believe me when I say I do not say this is a flame of the device, but I think many can use this design fault as a way of getting a FREE repair from their supplier (which is as it should be!! as they supply a non-standard mini-USB charger and a STANDARD mini-USB cable in the box)..
All those I have advised in threads before, please link those threads to this one...Thanks..
These are threads that possibly relate to the USB physical failure. Please do NOT treat them as final...we are just trying to corealate similar data.

Damn... I only went back ten pages to 24/12/07 and found these!!!
If you have any input on any port/comms failure over and above these threads please let me know... Thanks.
The pain is, we're all going to have to go through the hassle of reflashing the device back to its original state, then lose it for a week while its repaired and then get it set up just so again when it returns!
I have an original HTC TyTN II so I'm not going to be able to do an insurance 'hotswap' this time.
Many thanks farsquidge for pulling all these threads together!
Should this be posted in a more general section? I would think this doesn't only happen to Kaiser users.. and we're not getting much of a response in this section.
I am thinking I may have that problem. I have an old shop lamp with a magnifying glass and I am still having a problem looking at the pin details on the micro usb connector. Is there a drawing out there relating to what I should be seeing?
I just tried plugging my brother's WM 2003 phone onto my computer and it detected it right away.. Can it be possible that the USB port on my phone is damaged? it works great with everything else though..

Possibly not! The title of the thread is POSSIBLE Micro-USB failure..

I the reason for my RMA was that the device would only charge on wall charger. My USB was slightly lowere on the right side. I believe that someone hit it on the head when they said that the home charger has a better fit & hence, keeps the connection were the PC cable & the Auto Chargers fail.
Since we still have warranty on our Kaisers, will HTC fix it?
Did anyone fix this problem yet?
micro-usb contacts...
this thread really hit the spot.
After killing my self trying to find the answer to why i could charge my device and not synch, i ran across this. indeed it was the metal contacts on the micro usb.
Gently, using a very thin flat tool, i was able to "reposition" on the B contact displayed in the picture above.
Once i did this, I reconnected the usb cable and viola...it worked!
Thanks everyone!
I just had to return my brand new TyTN II to the store I bought it from because of this problem. It charged in the wall but would not sync or be detected with the pc.
I already returned it for a refund. I do want to get another one but do not want to keep havening this same problem.
I almost wonder if I should have kept my orginal TyTN II and tried to fix it?
Thinking of getting a Tilt now since they are so much cheaper.
I'm on the phone with ATT right now and these A$$holes are trying to tell me that they WILL NOT cover this under warranty. I'm holding for a supervisor right now.
My device will take a charge from the USB cable or my wall charger but it will not take a charge from my car charger. I even went to the ATT store and asked them to hook it up to the car charger and they were the ones to tell me to call the warranty department.
This is ridiculous. I am going to raise Hell if they tell me that I have to pay for a new phone.
They're telling me that it is physical damage and they WILL NOT cover this under warranty.
I am beyond furious right now. I cursed this b!tch out and told her to go f0ck herself.
I don't think that was good for my cause.
$79 to fix it yourself

Thank You Thank You Thank You
I have been trying to figure this out for months. I used a knife and moved the "B" pin up and it worked immediately. Did I say THANK YOU?
I went to the ATT Store where I purchased my Tilt and had the manager call the Warranty Department and tell them that there is no physical damage on the device.
They're sending me a new (refurb) one.
It's weird that I can use my USB cable and the wall charger that came with the device, but any other charger does not work.
thanks for helping me with this.
i think it's weird that any simple user, like my mum, would immediately check the connections and blow in the USB ports...whereas the advanced users forget to check the connections and straight away start reinstalling software.
Thanks again for this.
I'll be getting my replacement Tilt today. I hope I don't have any issues with it since it's a refurb.
If anyone tries to get a warranty replacement from ATT and they ask you if you can see anything wrong with it, SAY NO!!! It's almost like they try to trick you to say something is wrong with it so they can say it's physical damage.
I hope I remember to re-flash Hard SPL or I might be wondering why my rom flashing doesn't work.
see i totally screwed myself...i experienced these problems and continued to bend my usb connector all around and eventually broke that plastic piece out (first type with the holes)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359695
and then from that being out i smashed the syncing pin over and over and that broke out...tried to solder it..got it to stay and sync for a few days then stopped syncing again then re soldered it and got isopropyl alcohol on my water damage pad so now im trying to figure out what to do...then last night i smashed the +5v and broke that pin...so i cant revert the spl so my only options are pay the 79 bucks to have ppctechs fix it or slip that plastic piece back in (its stays in even if a usb plug is inserted), get something to replace that pad (maybe construction paper...just to fool the eyes as im sure they wont give that a second look), sticking it in bootloadetr mode so it "looks broken" and try to work a att store rep into replacing it on the spot due to the boot up screen and steer away from the usb port problem as i screwed myself on that lol...any advice?

FINALLY!!!! Found: Cradle WITH Audio Jack!!!

I stream XM all day at work and I have to flip my phone upside down in the cradle so that I can use the Y-cable to play the stream through my speakers. I've always hated this because, 1. it defeats the purpose of the cradle and 2. the phone is upside down.
So I tried to get smart this weekend and adopt my OEM audio Y-cable to my cheap $10 ebay cradle I bought a while ago so that I could listen to audio while the phone was docked.
That was a big mistake.
I snapped the PCB board in half and now I've got no cradle and no Y-cable for audio. So after hours of searching, I FINALLY found a cradle that has the correct USB connector, thus allowing an audio out.
http://search.stores.ebay.com/Premi...sooZ1QQfsopZ3QQsaselZ840472QQsbrsrtZdQQsofpZ0
I just ordered it and so I haven't tested it, but the connector is the right shape, so I have confidence that it will work. I only wanted to get this link up there for those who have been searching for this.
I think maybe you got too technical. When I bought my touch it came with 2 types of Y-cable one for power/3.5mm? audio connections and the other for power/usb headphones that came with my touch. I would have just plugged that into the usb port in the back of the cradle and powered it by my computer.
But since you showed a link to ebay - here is another store called the Naked Cell Phone in ebay stores. My link goes right to the HTC Touch accessories he has. and his cradles can accommodate a second spare battery. Worth a look.

It doesn't allow you to play audio through external speakers and/or listen to the headphones while docked. While at work, I like for my phone to be upright so that I can see the screen.
I don't know what is so technical about wanting to have your phone in a docking station, where it is upright, and elevated from a surface and still have the ability to play audio through external speakers.
That looks like the one but it does not show the back -- didn't know if it had a miniUSB on the back.
Just trying to help

it's not the back connection that is the problem. it's the cradle connection. the part where the phone connects to the cradle has to be the d-sub pin layout. htc has pins on both sides, whereas miniUSB only has one side. the pins on the opposite side are for audio. regardless of how the back is wired, without the proper connection, you won't get audio out while docked.
I tried to rig something but ended up futzing everything up.
640k - did this docking station work for your intended purpose?
I'd like to pick up a dock, and was wondering about your experience.
Thank you.

works perfectly well. definitely allows me to play all audio with teh phone upright. it includes ports for power and usb too, so it seems like you get the full function of the mini usb port with it.
my only gripe is the dock itself. it's a little clumsy to get the phone in and out and i find myself hitting the camera button when i remove the phone.
the dock also prevents use of the d-pad. which seems minor with a touch screen, but some apps respond better from the d-pad (or sometimes it's just easier). you can go up, left and right, but you cannot press down, even though it is visible.
the dock is also 2-3x the size of the phone which may be a turnoff for some people but the build seems to be quality.
however, it's definitely worth the $15. it comes with a charger and a usb cable. the audio out is a standard 3.5mm jack, so even if you don't want to play music through your computer speakers, you could always hook up headphones.
Got one!
I quite like this dock. I run "My Mobiler" on my desktop, so I can access the phone using my monitor/mouse/keyboard.
Now I can use the phone as my media player, transfer files, install apps, and (in theory) answer my phone calls hands-free using the on-board mic and my speakers. Haven't tried the last yet...
Thanks for the tip on this one, just ordered one for my car dock. Gotta love last.fm and podcasts for the commute streaming from Android on my touch!
just an fyi, the usb connection on this dock doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. i need to crack it open to see if i can find what's wrong. but i get intermediate connections and the phone goes in and out of being connected. not sure what the problem is, but i haven't used teh dock in a few weeks.
Cool i might get this. Been looking for a dock for a LONGGGGG time
Yikes, $18.00 shipping to Canada.
Cradle...
I got a deal where the usb/pc cradle, car cradle, 2 car power adapters, 2 wall chargers, 2 usb sync cables, and a soft case, and 3 pen/styluses all shipped for like $29, from Premiertek.net thru their ebay store, it also came with a belt holster that is kinda wonky but I really only wanted the 2 cradles anyway and I use my BlackBerry Perl's holster, cuz with my case it fits perfect. so I'm stoked, it allows for speakers on the usb pc cradle, and hands free built in on the car cradle... sweet. now I need to find a better mini audio plug to 3/8 sound adapter to use with the car cradle, mine only picks up the left channel.... but I have already confirmed it is my mini/3/8 adapter and not the cradles..
Anyone tried this on a vogue with android flashed?, want to know if audio out is all good.

I feel bad for anyone still using a Vogue. That phone was a nightmare compared to my D1. This cradle is/was junk. I don't know/remember what the failure was, but I'm glad to have moved on. Hopefully you guys can upgrade soon. Get an Android phone, any of them. you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Broken USB connector

Hi all,
due to the high usage, I've broken the usb connector of my TyTN II.
I can't post a picture but if you can see the connector you can notice that it seems crushed.
If I put the cable I can charge the device but ActiveSync do not start (icon remain gray) and if someone call me I can't heard voice of caller till I remove the cable!
If I use bluetooth to sync there's no problem.
The pda works great but this limitation is really annoing!
I think that this broken is caused by the continuos connect/disconnect of the cable that I make during the working days!
Dam!!
:-(
The question is... is possible to replace the connector or I've to change the motherboard?
Thank you in advance!
Have a nice weeknd!
Ale
yeah others have opened their phones and replace the connectors
just have to find somewhere to buy the part
maybe "rs components" got the part

Usb charger port question!

Hi guys,
I hope this thread is in the right place but I have a question.
My usb charge port got bent a little bit and I had trouble charging my phone so I ordered from eBay the part I needed which is this thingy
http://i.ebayimg.com/t/New-USB-Charger-Port-Flex-Cable-Replacement-For-Samsung-Galaxy-Note-N7000-i9220-/00/s/NTAwWDUwMA==/z/4msAAOxyMxpRpE~d/$(KGrHqMOKpYFGWfj3M)VBRpE+d(Spw~~60_12.JPG
and then when I got it I installed it according to an excellent guide I found on youtube.
When I installed it,the USB charge port came back to life but the microphone (which I late found out was attached to the same flex part) was broken so I had to use my speaker for two weeks until the seller shipped the part again.
Today I installed the part again and now the USB charge port works fine, the microphone works fine, but to my supprise - the speaker doesn't!
My question is :
1.is the speaker also connected to this part and due to that I have this problem or is it possible that something else went wrong ?
Please only answer if you're sure of what you say.
2.Where can I get this part (OEM) from a place that will surely send a working part ? (if it's not possible to write it down here, please PM me)
Thank to all you helpers out there!!!

Open up the phone again. and check the screws that hold down the usb port
the speaker is attached to the plastic cover on top of the usb port. it is not making contact with the right points.
try it whilst the phone is on, play a audio or video file and hold down that part with your fingers. u will see that it will work.
meaning that the screws are either loose or too tight and not properly aligned.
