QTEK9090 French to English conversion - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

:?:
Hi,
I have ordered a new QTEK9090, which the provider here will only supply me in French. I see conversions on this forum for German to English. However, is there one for Frnech to English?
Thanks

Not that i'm aware of, but the process is similar. You will just have to do a few extra steps, like putting Devicedata.exe on your device and retrieving the devicedata.txt file so you know the operator and "country" ID to use with xda3nbftool.exe.
No reason why it shouldn't work.

It should be the same conversion process. You'll need to dump the french ROM from your phone unlock it using the exact same commands, use a hex editor to see what the french ROM has for a carrier code (T-Mobile) and the designation to say that it is in French (i.e. WWE for english).
You will then modify the .bat file in the other posts that were listed for the German update.

*****************
You'll want to modify the "T-MOB101" and "GER" settings to what you find in the first 128 bytes of the French ROM that you pull off the device to your SD card or PC. I have never dumped a ROM off of a device so you have to search this site for instructions, I know they have been posted multiple times. So to sum it up:
1. Dump the ROM from your French phone to your desktop
2. Use the command xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521 to unlock the nk ROM
3. Use a hex editor to read the nk.nba file (XVI32.exe, search web)
4. Once you see what they have for the operator code and how they specify French (FRE???) you will then modify the above commands and save in a .bat
5. Run the .bat file you just saved
6. Run BaUpgradeUt.exe in you unzipped ROM directory.
Hope this helps.

I Just noticed that you’re a newbie. If you search the forum for "dumping ROMs to the SD card", "How do I get the ROM off my XDA/XDAII/MDAIII" , etc and forward me the links, I'll then do the processes on my end first so I know what I'm doing before I hold your hand. I can then walk you through the process to get the two unknown pieces of data, provider and the French 3 letter abbreviation. I'll do all the changes and upload a completed set of files for you to use to make it easy.
Deal? If so, start searching and PM with your results.
later,
Wnpublic,
Do you know how to dump from the device to the SD or desktop machine?

I don't know how to dump the "original" ROM. It appears to be possible, I just haven't explored.
BUT
dumping that rom to get country code and operator ID is unnecessary. All you need to do is put Devicedata.exe on your device and run it. That will create a small text file called Devicedata.txt. Open it and it shows the whole header - or at least enough of it to do the upgrade.
Devicedata.exe is part of the standard upgrade package. simply get the imate one, for instance, unzip it twice, and devicedata.exe will be there.

Thanks,
I had just realized this last night as I reading up on dumping the ROM. I had totally forgot about it, thanks for the reminder and making the complex simple!

MDA III German to English repost

Gone but not forgotten, thanks to Google Desktop. Here's the gist of the hard work everyone did to enable flashing the MDAIII german to english, as summarized by pablo in his now-gone post:
ok, let's go
download the zip of the post i wrote:
ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/support/PDA2K_CDL_11200_134_10200_SHIP.zip
unzip 2 times in a new folder
then download the latest xda3nbftool of this thread, and copy it in the same folder where unzipped before:
[see next post]
then create the following bat file with wordpad (remember the .bat extension, NOT .txt)
copy EXACTLY the rows that follows:
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nbf ms_.nba 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523

xda3nbftool -x nk.nba nk.nbf 0x20040521

then, with your pda connected with ActiveSync, run BaUpgradeUt.exe file in the folder

I also could not reach the links above. Does anyone else have the files needed for this German to English upgrade?
I just got my MDA III and though I can get by in German, English is much more preferable.
Thanks in advance!
You need to be a member to download a file from this site.
For the imate rom, the latest version is linked somewhere around here. I think it's in the FTP section.

Thanks Public.
I registered, downloaded and found the imate ROM in the FTP section.
After a back-up, I'm going for it.

as to your question, if it is the same version of the ROM, it may be that you just need to reverse the installation process and re-install the GER version prior to sending your device in for repairs.
They will check the device information, so be sure u hv the ROM and Radio Stack back in original version.
Cheers.
Hi all ,
Congrats to wnpublic for this great help!
Can anyone tell me how to access the extended ROM, or create a new one to get into my pda2k?
I´ve tried accessing the .nbf file but it asks me for a password.
Wich is easier? Create a new Extended ROM or getting the password for this one??
Thanks guys!!!

MDA III stuck in boot load.

I tried to upgrade my Tmobile MDA III with the ROM of O2 XDA IIs and it is now stuck in boot load. I was wanting to use the new rom to fix the bluetooth issues, But now I would just be happy if I can get it back to the factory defaults. This was the German flashed to English MDA III. If there is anyone who can help me Pleeeease! Thanks in advance to anyone who can reply or help.

Interesting I must say.
I was hoping that you might "please" spend so time and explain the Boot load for us all.
Unlike the extened rom were I have read enough about it and thus some what understand it, I have no understanding about the boot load on a PPC.
Would be nice of you, thanks
Reviving a dead MDAIII from Bootloader
I hear you brother! Thanks to XDADOM elsewhere on this website, I *finally* managed to revive my dead MDAIII tonight.
You will need this ROM PDA2k_WWE_12200_162_10600_SHIP.exe (lurking somewhere on this website), xda3nbftool.exe and I also had ActiveSync 3.8 which may help.
The process to update is described elsewhere on this website, but as it's easy to get lost, here's how I did it:
Double click on the EXE file. Just before the upgrade starts, hop into Windows Explorer and try to locate the file radio_.nbf which will be in a TEMP folder somewhere on your hard disk (usually c:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Local Settings\Temp)
Copy/Move all of these files into somewhere safe and memorable.
Fire up Notepad and cut and paste the following text and SAVE IT AS A .BAT file (NOT a TXT!!). Then run the attached batch file.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nbf ms_.nba 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -sl WWE -so T-MOB005 ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -sl WWE -so T-MOB005 nk.nba
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -sl WWE -so T-MOB005 radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u NK.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u Radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nba ms_.nbf 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nba nk.nbf 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nba radio_.nbf 0x20040523
del *.nba
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now cancel out of the Update, then navigate back to where you just copied those files. Run the file BaUpgradeUt and hopefully your MDAIII should be back to factory settings as an "imate" after about 10-20 minutes.
Once again, THANK YOU to XDADOM for his time, patience and efforts in helping me out.
MB,
No problem buddie!
If anyone else has this problem with their Blue Angel device feel free to PM me and my "Team" (MDAIIIUser and I [and you too MB if you're up for it!]) will endevour to help you! (I think we need a name...like...the Blue Angels?!?!?)
We will also be starting a new thread with a full walkthrough to upgrading/restoring your device...this will hopefully include all the different country and languages codes for all the different types of Blue Angels....
Coming soon!
So, in the meantime, PM me and we'll see if we can help!

Also wrong password. My fix.bat (with German MDAIII with English ROM) works fine with BA_WWE_BP_12200_126_10600_SHIP.exe but not with this version. Please see log if it can help to solve problem.

Why I made my own ROM
Hi there,
I have a SVP M2000 from Orange France. I hate french OS, so the first thing I have done was to upgrade it to English (it's a stupid I cannot configure the French buit-in keyboard in French when I use an English ROM... but I wait for the project here to reconfigure the keyboard! )
I have tried all roms here for the Blue Angel and I wasn't really satisfied with any of them, so I have taken the best of all to make my own and my SPV M2000 works great.
My little story:
My first upgrade was the english version from Qtek BA_WWE_BP_12200_126_10600_SHIP.exe but I had some small problems. My SPV M2000 sometimes had a strange behaviour and I had to do a soft reset.
Then I tried the PDA2k_WWE_12200_162_10600_SHIP.exe and those problems disappeared. As the Radio and the Windows ROMs are identical, I thought the problems with the Qtek version were in the extended ROM.
When I heard that the french version for Qtek BA_FRE_BP_12202_558_10602_SHIP.exe had radio ROM version 10602 (and as there's not localization for the radio stack) I decided to use it.
I tried then both english versions (Qtek BA_WWE_BP_12200_126_10600_SHIP.exe and i-mate PDA2k_WWE_12200_162_10600_SHIP.exe) with the file radio_.nbf from BA_FRE_BP_12202_558_10602_SHIP.exe but with the Qtek version I had now some problems with the radio and bluetooth.
I got very excited when I heard about the norwegian version BA_WWE_BP_12200_169_10602_SHIP.exe but I had the same checksum problems described here using the xda3nbftool.
Finally, I decided to use PDA2k_WWE_12200_162_10600_SHIP.exe and replace the original radio_nbf file (10600) with the radio _.nbf file from BA_FRE_BP_12202_558_10602_SHIP.exe
Now, I don't have any problems with the radio nor with the Extended ROM from Qtek BA_WWE_BP_12200_126_10600_SHIP.exe!!!
Hope this helps
anyone figured out the password yet???

I have found that to make it work, you have to copy the country error fix file to a new folder where you download the update to.Then unzip/unrar it , right click and edit to open, then I had to use edit>select all>file>save>exit. Then do the same procedure to update as before. I dont know why you have to open and unzip it into a new folder with the rom and all, but it has worked 2 of the 3 times I tried it. The other time I screwed up!!! LOL
Hope this helps.............. 8)
I get an error as well fixing the country code with the xda3nbftool.
Did anyone figure out the new password or change the xda3nbftool?
>WARNING: this does not look like a nbf header, possible you provided the wrong password
What exactly is improved in ROM 169?
A
Proper procedure
As far I as know this is the upgrade hack procedure:
1. Download de xda3nbftool from http://www.xda-developers.com. This program modifies the ROM upgrade files.
2. Extract the ROM upgrade executable to a folder of choice.
3. Copy the exec GetDeviceData.exe from this extract folder to the TEMP directory on the Qtek 9090.
4. Run the GetDeviceData.exe on the QTEK 9090. This exec creates a file called \Windows\DeviceData.txt.
5. Copy this file \Windows\DeviceData.txt to the desktop computer en open it. The DeviceData.txt file contains the data for the -sd, -sl en -so switches. Use this data from your own QTEK 9090, NOT the standard DANGA001 or WWE.
6. Create a CHANGE.BAT batch file :
CHANGE.BAT:
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nbf ms_.nba 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523
xda3nbftool -sd ????? -sl ???? -so ???? ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -sd ????? -sl ???? -so ???? nk.nba
xda3nbftool -sd ????? -sl ???? -so ???? radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u NK.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u Radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nba ms_.nbf 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nba nk.nbf 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nba radio_.nbf 0x20040523
del *.nba
Replace the question marks with the data from DeviceData.txt
'sl' stands for language, e.g. WWE.
'so' stands for operator (Country ID), e.g. BRIGH001.
'sd' stands for device, e.g. PH20B.
7. Put CHANGE.BAT, the xda3nbftool and all extracted files (ms..nbf, nk..nbf en radio..nbf...) in one folder.
8. Run CHANGE.BAT first.
9. Upgrade the QTEK 9090's ROM by running the BaUpgradeUt.exe.
This should do the trick.
Ran the GetDeviceData.exe on my Dutch QTEK 9090.
The results:
'sl' (language): WWE
'so' (Country ID): DANGA001
'sd' (device): PH20B.
So my CHANGE.BAT file would look like this:
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nbf ms_.nba 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -sl WWE -so DANGA001 ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -sl WWE -so DANGA001 nk.nba
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -sl WWE -so DANGA001 radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u NK.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u Radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nba ms_.nbf 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nba nk.nbf 0x20040521

Please help me upgrading my german MDAIII...
because having a German MDAIII is like having NO MDAIII!
thanks.
Hi there,
You need to run the attached file (GetDeviceData.exe) on your device to find out what it is. This creates a file on your device in the windows folder called DeviceData.txt. In this file, it should tell you the country code (eg, GER), and the opperator ID (eg, T-MOB101).
Make sure your batch file matches the ones discovered in the DeviceData.txt file and follow the rest of your instructions.
If you need any help, just PM me and I'll see what I can do.
Good luck,
Dom
thanks for your help. Dom
i'll try this later.
ok, i ran this devicedata, and i got PH2OB.
i want to upgrade to i-mate. So do i need to fill in the second part of the sentences WWE or GER?
any suggestion?
yes : copy devicedata to the pc before opening it.
Then you will see more then just PH20B
-so -sl -sd?
but how comes that some batch files have -so??? -sl??? and some have also -sd????
What do i need to fill in? if i have the german MDA3?
thanks for your prompt reply.
Hello,
These switches refer to different things.
-sd : devicetype (eg PH20B)
-so : operatorname (eg T-MOB101)
-sl : language (eg GER)
I discovered by chance that if your details are the same as the ones in the ROM upgrade, then you need NOT include them in the batch file. As I upgraded from a WWE ROM to a WWE ROM, I didn't unclude the "-sl" switch in the file. The same with the "-sd" switch.
If you're upgrading to the i-mate ROM (PDA2k_WWE_12200_162_10600_SHIP.exe) then you'll need to use the details from your devicedata.txt file (which should be GER) and put this after the "-sl" switch.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Dom
i'm going crazy! please help!
DOM PLEASE HELP ME!!!!
I'm going crazy, i'm trying already a week to change language, i just don't succeed!
here's my info.
PH20B, T-MOB101 and GER (devicedata.txt)
then i downloaded the i-mate zip file for upgrade.
I extracted it twice, so i get in the same folder:
BaupgradeUT
Disconnectactivesync
enterbl
getdevicedata
HTCruu.conf
HTCruu.dll
xda3nbftool
ms_nbf
nk.nbf
pda2k......... CDL
radio_.nbf
And then i created the batch file with the following:
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nbf ms_.nba 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -so T-MOB101 -sl GER ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -so T-MOB101 -sl GER nk.nba
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -so T-MOB101 -sl GER radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u NK.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u Radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nba ms_.nbf 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nba nk.nbf 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nba radio_.nbf 0x20040523
del *.nba
with wordpad, saved as fix.bat (RTF format)
then i double clicked on this fix.bat, and then upgradeUT.
As a result: COUNTRY ERROR.
Please tell me what am i doing wrong???
thanks.
Hope you can save me from my misery.
Ok,
Firstly, you should have the batch file in the same folder as the xda3nbftool.exe and the extracted .nbf files. This is because it uses these to change the opperator and language IDs. I ran your batch file on my i-mate rom files and that ran perfectly, but I can't test for your error as my device is not German.
Secondly, after you ran the fix.bat did you see a DOS/Command Prompt window work through the .nbf files? This process should take about 30 seconds and you'll notice that the "date modified" for each of the .nbf files will be the same as the date/time you ran the batch file. Check this out now!
Lastly, use notepad.exe instead of wordpad.exe - It's just easier and it wont add extra lines so the batch file will work better.
If this is not the case then you may not have performed this section correctly. Please give me feedback on the questions above then we can go on from there. If you use this sites Private Messaging feature (click on the PM link at the bottom of this post) it will be easier to contact you!
Good luck,
Dom
thanks for the tips...
I now created a batch file with notepad, and country ID is ok now. it's upgrading now. i'll let you know when i'm done here. I just hope it won't die like some ppl in this forum....
thanks
SUCCEEDED!!!
Thank you, DOM!
It's working perfectly! i-mate WWE now on my German MDAIII.
Thanks a lot for your almost "live" help.
now i only need to deal with this german keyboard
thanks
You're welcome!
Dom

How do you circumvent the COUNTRY CODE error for MDA3 German

hi, i don't mean too many threads, but i'm sensing many people have this problem---baiscally,
i had wwe 1.12 installed on a german mda3/blue angel--devicedata.exe now reads:
PH20B 0 B GER R T-MOB101 1.22.01 0 1 1.22.182 1.06.00 06.00
device data used to read:
PH20B 0 B WWE T-MOB101 1.12.22 2 2 1.12.169 1.02.00 02.00
fyi-i'm in new york with cingular as my carrier (but have always seen it as tmobile and worked fine)
and i read the steps on how to update the rom with a wwe--actually my phone is the exact same mentioned in the example--
i have tried, what i think, is may roms found within this forum--english german, french, arabic, all 1.22, and i always get the country code error.
i even tried to trick the german installer with modified wwe files and got checksum errors
so i did everything as worded and here is what i used for my fix.bat (omitting the REMs):
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nbf ms_.nba 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nbf radio_.nba 0x20040523
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -sl GER -so T-M0B101 ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -sl GER -so T-M0B101 nk.nba
xda3nbftool -sd PH20B -sl GER -so T-M0B101 radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u NK.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u ms_.nba
xda3nbftool -c -u Radio_.nba
xda3nbftool -x ms_.nba ms_.nbf 0x20040522
xda3nbftool -x nk.nba nk.nbf 0x20040521
xda3nbftool -x radio_.nba radio_.nbf 0x20040523
del *.nba
And still got the country code error, but with a different country code error as exhibited in the little diagram i made:
ok, it seams that you have to click to see the pic. but i don't even know what all that means.
i don't know where to go, what else to do.
oh, on a side note, can on use manual cab file -- like to just overwrite my current german flash with english files, reboot the mda, and if all is well--permanent save it?
i don't really know how to mess with manual cab files, like where to put them? or what to do with them--if you overwrite other files?
i know, i'm a mess. but please help, it will help others, and if my problem is fixed, i will pay out too.
things were so much easier with the xda1 -- just downloaded the special edition rom from here, and boom--everything is peachy---wish we had an auto configuration utility for the blue angels, as we did for the xda1.
--sigh.
On my SPVM1000 (XDAII) this worked just fine.

Good luck either way
(make sure you have a replacement ROM and that everything's backed up to the hilt!)
