Key Remapping continued? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Can we please look at this project again. I'd love to be able to remap the keys on my MDAIII.

AE has done it. Or at least it is a pretty seamless workaround. Check the thread again.

Configure Press and Hold for other buttons

I am currently using Dutty's newest rom. For the PTT button I am able to define what happens when I hold the button.
I would like to add the ability to close the program when I hold the OK button (button 4). Is there a good way to add the (hold) option in the button settings for all buttons?
Thanks,
-Dan
For ALL buttons? Even the camera? Then what? How will you take pictures?
Have you searched? Someone wrote a program to do this, I read it yesterday. Try searching. I know you are new, but the search button will be yoru friend.
Well, I guess not all buttons. I just would like the option to configure two things for each button.
Through my search I found AE button. I tried that, but was unsuccessful to get it to work properly. I am attempting to remap the side OK button. Remapping the "OK" button only applies to the front OK button.
I think more of my issue is that I am trying to remap the side button, is that possible? I imagine many people would love to be able to close programs using this button.
I hate to be so wrong, so quickly.
My mistake, AE button is exactly what I was looking for it. I was remapping the wrong button. Although it isn't easy to use, I recommend it to all.
I would prefer a reg-tweek to add the option to the buttons dialog, but this will do.

This is the simplest and non 3rd party way to remap your buttons for long press. No need to install a program.

Remap Left Side Key?

I've been reading a lot of posts on remapping that useless PTT button. But I was wondering if there is a way to remap the OK key that's next to the scroll wheel.
I'm running DCS v1.7 and the key is already remapped to open the Start Menu. Any help would be mostly appreciated.

How possible is it to remap Camera button?

Had an idea to remap the camera button into "mute" during calls, this way much easier to mute/unmute. I'm on conf calls alot so this would be a great feature. So question is how difficult would it be to re-map it?
I think android has a built in button mapping. not sure if the camera button is listed in there though.
i to would like to know how to remap the camera button back to being the camera, in one of the roms i updated to its bring up some messaging window instead of the camera. i rather like its original function

This is due to ChompSMS, you can turn it off in settings.
And to the OP, does ANYONE use search anymore?!?! I already have this mod made already. You can remap any key to any other key. I have a full guide right here: [MOD] Remap Any Key on Your G1
EDIT: And OP, what your requesting will require seperate software. You can't make keys do magical things with this software, if there is already a hardware key for it you can change it with my mod. But to do what you are requesting is impossible without more software.

Geniusdog haha, you do realize the OP posted this in april of 2009? Even with a search, they wouldn't have found anything because your post was in august of 2009. I think its impulse for people to tell other people to search without reading everything in the OP first. haha. Anyway, good job with the remap
With that in mind, I'm moving it to the Q&A forum. (It's been too long to punish the guy.)

Directional keys

Does any one know of or can make a cab that only uses the four direction keys of the full Qwerty key board to be displayed on the screen for only when needed. This would give control of up/down and left/right without sliding ot key board, the screen won't be blocked by the other keys and last you could play older games that require some some keys to control movement. If possible add center button between directional keys for action. Anyone interested please add comment, Thanks
note this is needed if only by me. please make me this cab.
For ***'s sake is your post ROM related?
It has been done, I tried looking for it but i'm not sure where it is. But it wasn't just an edit from the current keyboard, but rather a whole different keyboard skin.
For future refrence, look at the different sections of the fourm to post this in the right section.
EZInput 2.1 has the collapsible directional keys.
Search for it.

[Q] Can the hardware keys be redefined on the Droid 3?

After downloading and playing with a basic vt100 terminal emulator I soon noticed that there is no ctrl key on the hardware keyboard. In order to get a ctrl-c, for example, I have to press and release the volume lowering button to get "ctrl" and then the "c". This is very awkard. Especially with the keyboard fully extended! I later downloaded the hackers keyboard which has a ctrl key but it was not working at the time and I have reported it as a bug. Regardless, I would like the option to use the hwkb to do this. Perhaps this is premature as we don't have root yet, but is there a way to define say alt-shift, or the "ok" key or what ever to be ctrl. Also, while it is nice to have a fifth row of keys with numbers, I would think that these keys should have other functions too. Whatever one likes, i.e. alt 1 for F1 and so forth.
It is possible, there are apps in the Market, or you could hard code it into a ROM, but all of this requires root to my best knowledge, unless we have that I do not believe it is possible, but would be great if root wasn't needed, so if someone knows more hopefully they can let you know, but that's what I know.
search for Button Remapper, it is also on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464
