Modifying PDA2K Exended ROM - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading
Hi,
I'm trying to add a couple of things to the extended rom of my PDA2K, I've unlocked the extened rom but can't find config.txt in it.
Has anyone else unlocked the extended rom of their PDA2K? If so is there a config.txt in it?

There is definitely a config.txt in there. Since I have an XDA2S, it also has an autoconfig.txt file for carrier customizations.

The isn't an autoconfig file. There is an autorun which reads and acts upon the Config.txt file. This is from imate
In Imate PDA2K there's no config.txt. The ExtROM is set up indifferent way. Imate has done that way since ROM 166 for XDAII. The setup.exe do the job

I stuck the config file into the PDA2K and did a hard reset but there was no effect to the setup process. The file was ignored
I had also put the Blue Tooth patch in the extended rom and it showed up in the menu of the InstallCabFile program where you choose your operator. when I chose the patch, it installed everything except for any operator settings.

So is there any way to modify the setup process?
Looking at the config text file not much different other than the Fax Cab file from the final .187 rom from o2. So looks like there is no real gain in it although would still like to have a play with the cab files if anyone has the external rom on their PC to upload.
Is the PDA2K the same as MDA3? I´m a little bit confused about this name.
If so, how did you unlocked the Ext. Rom? I just can made mine visible, but i can not write to it. The Unlock like on MDA2 does not work here...

Iap, it's the same, both are Blue Angels.

There is another post somewhere with two files, one to unhide the extRom and another one to unlockit.

I found the problem. i didn´t know that i had to use -xda3 as parameter.
Now everything is working fine.

hi i used the above tool to unhide the ext rom but when i try to unlock it gives an error :

ok i managed to unlock the rom in my pda2k imate but there is no autoconfig or config file there only autoexec file...
so the thing is i put the cabs in extrom but they dont get installed automatically.. how can i get over this problemo

Go to the file you want start. Then in the Contextmenu of the file click "Open with" and there you can enter the parameters.

I'm fairly new to playing around with Ext-roms but here is what I have found so far.
Saqibj - It would seem that the models supplied by different Carriers have been created differently.
I've got 2 PDA2Ks. Which have been sourced in 2 different countries from different suppliers.
Both have
Rom version 1.12.22 WWE
Radio version 1.02.00
And seem to be identical hardware wise.
Device 1 has a std Imate config with no carrier customisations.
Device 2 has a modified extrom with preset network connections, splash screens etc.
Device 1 has a config.txt the other doesn't.
Most of the cabs are common to both devices
(I still don't know what half of them do - but I'm learning from other posts on this site).
Both have an Autorun.exe. - but they are different.
I suspect that the one that doesn't have a config.txt, has had the autorun.exe modfied to load the cabs etc - which obviously should prevent alteration/modification.
This could explain why you don't have a config.txt. If you are unhappy with your extrom contents, I think you can download the unmodified ROM contents direct from club-imate. But I've never done this.

Hello I unlock the Extended Rom, and customize my own ExtRom by adding/removing cab files and re-write config.txt accordingly However, when i hardreset the device, even it shows that cab files from ExtRom is being installed but when it is completed i see no program installed. Please help?

CAB files from (home cooked) Extended Rom do not install?
I made my own Extended Rom with a few CAB files I created, but when I do a hard-reset and let the Customization Tools do their job it looks like none of the CAB files is installed? I'm sure my Extended Rom is build correct (I used Faria's how-to for it), but it looks like the Registry changes that's in my CAB files are not kept in the Registry because after installing the Extended Rom it resets immediately. Can this be true? Or do I need to hardcode the installpaths in my CAB files maybe? Regards, Molski
Already found the answer. I added the Default_Signed_Disable_Security.CAB to the Extended Rom (as 1st file to install) and after that it worked. Actually very logic, my CABS were not installed because they're not signed so had to disable that security first.

Hay Faria, It doesn't matter that you didn't post a reply sooner, look at the time difference between my question and my answer, it is not even a hour after each other But why do I have to do the Registry cabs at last in the Extended Rom? Because a few files I use got Registry changes in it. Regards, Molski
hi i meant registry hacks like perrfomance tweaks etc,not the ones in the programs that u are going to install. reason? i find out that some programs have a habit of modefing registry keys specially the ones homemade ,so if you install such cab file it is best to leave last.
cab file Hello guys, I started playing with my k-jam and i have to admit i'm really happy with your advises. I'm facing the same problem now, the cab files in my "cooked" ExtROM don't install. I belive i need that cab file to disable the certificate security. Could you tell me from where to get it? Thanx a lot!
Automated Settings
People; how can make a cab that automatically makes the settings for GPRS, MMS, WAP etc.? Every time I upgrade my pda2k to a new GREAT ROM, I have to make these settings manually. And as you know, GREAT developers on this site works hard and provide us with the latest unofficial ROMs in a short time. PS: I'm not a programmer, so telling me only 'use a cab manager' won't be enough...
The helmi roms already have this, look for the "operator" cab files.
My operator isn't in the list. So I need to prepare a cab file by myself...

Then I created new cabs using WinCE Cab Manager by copying the ones Helmi shipped with his ROM and replacing the settings with the extracted Orange ones. I have attached the relevant files I used, you could possibly hand edit these and then make cabs yourself if you can't find the settings shipped with your phone.

Autorun.exe Help Required
Can anybody help me with a problem I want to autoinstall some cab files on a wm5 wizard. (Like tomtom does under wm2003) Problem WM5 don't want to install!!! I have used the 2577 folder and the autorun from tomtom, renamed my cabs to the tomtom names (ttn.cab, gps.cab etc) this works fine under wm2003 but will not install on wm5 Does Anybody have a hacked autorun.exe that installs cabs on wm5 or a Hacked extended rom autorun.exe that reads the config from the storage card instead of the extended rom. The second option would be better as then all i have to do is re-write the config for different sd-cards Please Please Please help me all you programmers/hackers/reverse-engineers or whatever you would lke to be known as. Autorun reads the ini from the /ExtendedRom/ location and that is hardcoded.. I can't be changed because it will render the certificate invallid. However you can use: PocketPC Installer ( http://www.pocketpctoolkit.com/index.htm ) It will make an autorun.exe for you (to install cabs registry keys etc etc..)

Click to collapse The one from orange (NLD) doesn't. It reads the one in the extended rom. Have disassebled it with IDA-pro, there I saw the strings pointing to the extended rom. After patching it I got a certificate error when I tried to run it..
NBH Generator
I made small program which can merge .NBs into .NBH. Generated .NBH, of course, is not properly signed but enough for feeding SSPL. Give small script which contains .NB filenames, model name, CID and so, to the program. Output file is RUU_signed.nbh. Sample script included. To make the signature 1024 you can do it like this (at least until bot releases a version which allows you to modifi the sig. size): Code: nbhgen.exe file.txt perl nbh2dbh.pl RUU_signed.nbh RUU_signed.dbh ImageHash.exe -raw RUU_signed.dbh RUU_signedNEW.nbh 1024 It will popup a window asking you to select the proper certificate to sign your file, if you don't have one you can import for example a test certificate from windows mobile SDK.

is there a possibility to use this nbhgen.exe for making a backup of the current Excalibur ROM? I have a german XDA Cosmo running the original XDA Cosmo ROM. And I also managed to make a backup with bkondisk BUT what I have not been able to find out so far: how to make an installable package out of that? this nbhgen sounds good but how (if ever) can I use it for the Excalibur? Do I have to sign the resulting .nbh or maybe will it work unsigned with the engineering SPL 1.11??? I want to have a backup before flashing other ROMs - and believe me I want flashing the Dash ROM (or the german MDA Mail ROM) sooo bad since I've heard that TomTom 6 runs perfectly on it (unlike on Cosmo ROM where it's nearly unusable )

Do you leave fields blank if you don't want to perform that part of the upgrade? For example if you were not going to upgrade anything other than the OS would you leave everything except the last line blank like this (sample sample): TRIN100 HTC__001 1.23.707.6 USA 400,06_OS.nb Also, can the the first lines be anything? I assume they are descriptors on line one and two followed by your own version #.

Hi, I have a nb0 file that I want to turn into a nbh. Is a nb0 file simply a nb but the OS part? Can this tool do what I am looking for? The problem is I don't want to add a IPL, SPL etc - nor do I want to go to SP1.01. thanks!
@daveh85: nb0 is the same as nb. Yes, you can convert it to nbh using this tool.
