E-Mail application - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Is there an e-mail application that has an option to leave the e-mail to the server? I mean not to delete them? Like Outlook Express has as an option?

Use an IMAP server - this leaves the messages on there unless you delete them and then synchronise on your device.
Also, you can leave them on the server whilst using the Pop3 protocol - it should be something like "delete messages immediately" - make sure this isnt ticked and it should work.

the mail account I have is just POP3... There is not such an option...
Anything else I could try?

Are you serious? The standard email application doesn't have an option to leave email on the server for POP3?

The inbox for Pop3 does not delete messages. It defaults to leaving it on the server. Unless of course you delete it and resync.

nPop
Why don't you try nPop (http://www.nakka.com/soft/npop/index_eng.html)
Theres is a version for Windows and a version for Pocket PC

To tell the truth I haven't set up an e-mail account yet because I have a problem with the sim card.. But since there was no option about leaving messages on server I assumed it didn't!!! So, am I wrong?

No problem
If you are using Pocket PC Outlook (Inbox), you don't have any problem: it does not retrieve the messages from the server anyway.

Try WebIS Mail - I've used it for months now and find it really good. As an additional bonus, it's available free right now from Handango:

Thnak you all for your answers... I am OK with the e-mals, since it doesn't delete them from the server!!!
Is it possible to sync the contacts on a certain address book folder of the PC?

Sync POP desktop Mail box with PPC POP mailbox
Hi all
I feel that I am missing someting when it comes to the revolution of portable mail.
I have a desktop with outlook that picks up / Sends mail over pop.
I have a MDAIII with pocket outlook that picks up mail / send over pop.
I have activesync that puts my desktop mail on my MDAIII in pocket outlook.
now all this is fine since I can send and recive from both devices.
The porblem arises for me in the concept,
When at home I do my mail, then go out and check my mail over MDA then I reply to a mail and send.
If I do this over the activesync account it stays in the outbox untill I sync which is logical.
If I do it over the pop account it sends it.
What I would like to find is a mail program that lets me sync my mail "Sent items" from my MDA with my desktop.
In short how can I sync my MDA pop acount with a local outlook PST file to incure that I can send / Recive and have my sent items uptodate on both the desktop and MDA?
PS: I am a privat user thus dont have a exchange server.

is there a software which checks emails via HTTP.....caz i wanna use a software which can download emails from my hotmail account on ma pda ...........ne ideas guys ????
thnx in advnc

My understanding of Hotmail is that it is a web based mail system. I think (but am not sure) that you can upgrade for a fee to pop which allows you to download your mail to a e-mail client such as outlook. This would then work with the built in e-mail client on your PDA after you set up your pop account.
Mail itself can be sent in HTTP or plain text.

Email question for all you gurus

When i get my kaiser, i will be setting it up to sync with outlook at home (via a gmail server). This will sync all my mail with outlook, but I am wondering, is there any way to actively send and recieve mail, that would be reflected in outlook at home, on my Kaiser (without using gmail's website).
I believe this is a no, where i can compose messages, and they would be sent next time i sync at home, and where i will only recieve messages when i sync at home, but I am hopeful that there has been some change with this, as the last time i used this type of stuff it was with a windows mobile pda, with only wifi (i.e. not a smart phone).
Thanks for any and all input.

I think (and others here may have much more elegant solutions) that the easiest way to do what your asking (or at least what I think your asking) is to simply set Activesync on your phone to sync manually (and sync it only when you are at home). If you can elaborate on what it is exactly you are trying to do a better answer will be forthcoming.
this is what i have set up now:
My home comp, set up with outlook 2007, vista, etc.
My HTC Kaiser 3G via AT&T.
They sync when i am at home, so any messages i have composed on the Kaiser get sent, and any emails i have recieved since my last sync get updated on my phone.
If i set up an email account on the phone, it will use push email, and then i will be able to activly send and recieve messages trough 3g while on the go.
Is there a way (other then Exchange Server) to be able to activly use my Outlook Email account on the go, and have those changes reflected in the Outlook on my computer, without setting up a seperate account for email only on the phone?
Hosted Exchange?
These questions are specific to the Kasier but more to how ActiveSync works.
The only way that I know of to sync contacts, calendar and email with Outlook is to use Exchange. You can certainly sync POP email accounts and Hotmail accounts, even Gmail accounts one your phone and the contact info with Hotmail but not calendar entries.
To me the most comprehensive solution would be to get a hosted exchange account and then sync with it. You can install Outlook on your computer and connect via RPC over HTTPS (if using Exchange 2003) or Outlook Anywhere (if using Exchange 2007) Hosted Exchange services are not very expensive and they work well. Simple google search will give you all the details.
There is even another Microsoft Exchange thread on this Kaiser forum that mentions 2 different "free" hosted exchange servers

Outlook mail w/o Exchange - final question

I've gone through many threads on e-mail synchronization here. I found no solution to my problem - and I'm not even sure if I understand my problem well.
1. On my desktop computer I'm using Outlook with POP3 account (no Exchange server).
2. I'd like to sync my Kaiser (mail, contacts, calendar, tasks) with Outlook on my desktop computer.
3. I'd also like to be able to check e-mail (my POP3 account) using Kaiser (3G, WiFi) when I'm not at the office.
4. On my device I can only configure separate accounts for synchronization with Outlook ("Outlook mail") and for downloading e-mail from POP3 account.
So I cannot have those mails in one place - am I right?
5. When I send e-mail directly through POP3 account, it will appear on Kaiser only in Sent mail under this account.
So none of the messages I send directly through POP3 account will appear in "Outlook mail", synchronize and appear on my desktop Outlook?
If the answer to both bold questions is yes, then it sucks...
Dump POP3, use IMAP...
IMAP Clients (including Pocket Outlook & all desktop versions of Outlook) can be set to save a copy of all sent messages to a particular folder.
POP3 doesn't allow for this.
The way I solved it was to use a third party exchange server. The server "pulls" the emails from the POP servers you specify, then pushes them to Outlook on both the phone and your PC. Likewise, anything sent goes through the exchange server where it is kept in the sent folder, accessible from the PC or your phone.
No mail in "Sent mail" on Kaiser

Hi,
I am using IMAP on Kaiser to get e-mail and I have set the option on Kaiser to "Keep copies of sent items in Sent folder" but it does't do it.
I have a subfolder of "Inbox" called "Sent mail" (created automatically) and a separate "Sent mail" folder but when I send e-mail, it doesn't appear in any of them.
I deleted the account once and created it again, but still no luck. All e-mail I have sent from kaiser vanish.
Any suggestions?

Exchange ActiveSync

Hi all,
I sync my kaiser with the company exchange server. I recieve and send mails. I can manage my calendar and contacts (even GAL contacts), but I never recieve the attachments.
I have configured the device to recieve attachments without any limit, but no attachments are syncroniced...
Any idea?...
Many thanks...
Regards
make sure you have asked it to get the whole message and not just the headers and also make you dont set a limit as to how big the attachments are!
if that doesnt work, remove the settings and put them in again.
Many thanks for your quickest answer...
I recieve the complete message, but without the attachment. I have just setup an unlimeted attacment size.
I cannot change the message format to HTML because is greyed...I´m a bit lost ))
if its greyed out it means that the server isnt running exchange server 2007.
server 2003 doesnt support html emails!
so, could it be the problem?...is exchange 2003 able to push the attacments?...

Ex 2003 SP2 certainly supports DirectPush but does not support HTML based email.
It sounds as though your exchange server is running 2003 SP2 (since you can sync at all)
As far as the email attachements are concerned; I would delete the actvesync server relationship (this WILL remove your contacts, calendar and email but will replace them when you resync) and recreate it.
Also make sure that you are saving your attachments to a storage card not the device memory.

Help me figure out how to synchronize emails properly

I've looked around a lot but I can't find this specific issue mentioned.
My Diamond currently syncs well with my outlook, which receives emails from a few accounts and aggregates them in one inbox. This is good because I'm able to take them with me anywhere.
What I want is for the Diamond to also be able to download mail from my gmail account - which it does without a hitch - but this means I won't get that email in my desktop inbox. When connecting the device and starting activesync, it will pull new messages from my desktop index, but instead of moving the gmail stuff to the desktop, it just deletes all messages completely and there's no trace of them anywhere.
Is there a way to attach an account to the "outlook inbox" so that the gmail mails I download are added to it instead of to a new account? If not, is there any way to synchronize that new account to my desktop inbox instead?
This sounds very trivial, but I can't get it to work.
I am using Dutty's latest ROM (3.6b).
Email settings...
Have a look in your email settings on your device for your gmail account. At the bottom of one of the pages you'll see underlined 'Advanced Settings'. Tap on this and change the setting to 'Leave on server'. This way, you can receive it on your device, but when you check your mail back at your desktop, it will be there too.
Look under Send/Receive Settings?
That's the option currently set, and it does indeed leave the messages on gmail, but they are not automatically downloaded to my desktop if they were already downloaded to the Diamond.
I don't understand why it doesn't synchronize them with outlook on my computer...
Oh?

I'm sure why that is then. I use Tiscali email, and that downloads to my desktop whether I've already viewed them on my device or not. Perhaps someone else who uses gmail can help you... strange
in gmail, even if u leave the emails in the server, they wont be downloaded more than once. i know that, i am using a gmail account with my office pc as well as my home pc. and if i download an email from gmail using one of the two pc's, i cant download it again using the other pc, unless i go into the gmail server and "refresh" all emails making them as new. Same of course applies if you use a win mobile system.
Solution? yep and pretty simple. Have a new account in an exchange server, which can sync with your diamond. Have all your emails forwarded to this account. My diamond syncs only with my push-emailing exchange server, whilst all other accounts of mine are set in order to forward copies to the exchange server.
dunno if i made myself sufficiently clear... ?
How do I uhh.. set up an exchange server?
Is it seriously impossible to synch email I receive on the phone with desktop outlook? This is stupid. :/ One of the reasons I got the phone was that I could get emails everywhere, but it's useless if not only it doesn't synch it with the computer, but it deletes these mails automatically.....

i opened an account in a microsoft exchange server, to which i forward all my emails from other accounts. Also all my contacts and to-do list are in this exchange server, and are sync together with outlook in my other two computers (+diamond). I do so not just for sync but also because this is the best way for getting push-emailing... meaning my diamond gets the email right in the moment i receive it.
btw u can get a free email account in the following exchange server: http://live.mail2web.com/
Do you have imap enabled or just pop3? If you let the phone automatically setup your email then it will automatically chose pop3. Don't enter your email adress when configuring your gmail because it automatically sets up everything. Just enter something like [email protected] and it should give you the option to choose imap.
And make sure your computer also uses imap.

E Mail Deleting

Hi Guys
When i get email on my topaz everything works fine but when i go home and check email on my pc whatever email i received durning the day is repeated but when i look at the mail on my pc, its deleted automatically off topaz next time i send and receive is this right?.
What if i want to keep a email on my phone.
HELP !!!!!
Yes that's right. If you want the emails on your phone then synchronize them with your PC's outlook. Consider your email account on your phone as a temporary store, and your OUTLOOK inbox on your phone as your permanent store.
Ok tks for that.
Is there no way to change like the iphone if you receive it stays on phone till you delete it.?
Tks
What email are you using? POP IMAP exchange or hotmail?

Knowing that i am using Pop email, can I keep the mails on both units? the phone and the pc? i need to have the control over the emails so i can delete them when i need.
Thank you
If you set both your PC and your phone to leave messages on the server when you delete them it should work ok. You'll have to keep on top of your mailbox another way though, deleting the messages via web mail or moving the mails in to folders or something.
Matt.
If you synchronize your Outlook email between your phone and your PC, then you will obviously have copies of your email on both devices and you can manipulate them to your heart's content.
Tks
Thanks Guys all sorted !!!!!!
