Replacement caps for the external antenna port? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hi,
This is by far the most hi-tech question on the board... ;-)
I've lost the stupid little rubber cap that used to cover the antenna port. Cingular and Siemens are unable/unwilling to assist. Has anybody found an alternate source for replacements?
Thanks in advance!

Annoying little rubber piece
You the same exact thing happen to me. I ended up taking it from the non working display model at the sprint store. But then I lost it again. So if anybody knows, please let me know

Hum... I tried that with the styalist only to find that it was glued! Oh no let me correct that a friend of mine told me that he...

Try using the plastic bit on the non-writing end of a Bic stick ballpoint pen; it's about the right size & shape.

i-mate said they'd replace mine. Maybe I can get a few extras, too.

You must be on great drugs! were do you get them from? LOL

New case!

OK then,
I was going to get a new housing for my sad looking Ameo. They come in the standard Ameo silver or a rather smart HTC black. I already have a silver case, but here is the question.
Do the black housings, wear, scratch, or paint rub away easy? I don't want to get one and find it looks crap after six months. They ain't cheap! before anyone else says it, I know it depends how you treat it. I'm on about normal wear and tear use. How does yours look now? are there any signs of the metal underneath showing?

Black Case On The "advantage"...
Hey Jay,
I have a HTC Advantage x7501, with the black case of course, and have been using it with "typical" every-day use now for about 6 months. I have never even seen one of the silver cased "Ameo" versions of the device in person, so my review is a bit "one-sided," if you will... Also, I have a friend with whom I work with that also owns the same model as I. With saying all that, and without having experienced the silver model, I would bet the silver model would hold up a bit better on the finish due to the fact that if the silver gets scratched, the metal beneath it looks much closer to the silver finish than the black. I have a couple small blemishes on mine, and I am very particular with my mobile devices, but after using day-by-day at work and home, it has managed to get marked up just a bit. The biggest problem is, if you get a scratch on it, the metal below sticks out "like a sore thumb!"
I definitely believe that the black finish is a bit more professional looking, where sometimes the silver finishes can make a device look cheap or make it stand out.
Anyways, to give you my honest account on TWO Advantage x7501 devices (black finish) after 6 or so months of daily use, it is overall good, and neither one shows any major signs of wearing finish. Also, we both use a case that the device "slides" tightly in and out of each time you use it (without the keyboard attatched), and the device really hasn't shown any real signs of wear on the sides where it rubs the case. However, if you do happen to mark it up in any way, you will definitely notice it. Again, I am very picky, so keep that in mind, but so you have a better idea of what I am saying, I attatched a couple of pics so you can see what it looks like when or if you do scratch or mark it.
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
-Ryan
Also Note: Only one of the devices I wrote about is pictured, but are very similar in condition, and were both purchased slightly used.
X7501 Cosmetics...
I have had my X7501 for almost 10 months now and it only has one very tiny mark on the top right corner (you have to look hard to even see it).
Since I'm also very particular about my devices (I always keep them looking new) I just used a Sharpie (permanent marking pen) to "erase" the offending mark. This works great and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to touch-up black anodized aluminum like the Athena housing.
Wow! thanks for the reply Guys, Ryan that was one hell of a reply. Must have took you a while to do that and I appreciate it. toyfreak, the idea with the marker pen is a great one. I think on just that idea alone I will get black. Its harder to touch up silver! It looks better too.
Regards
Jay
Indeed is surprisingly hard coating, I carry mine in my pockets and can't say I'm careful with it, rather the opposite, I have it since it came out and there is only a little wear in one of the corners, hardly noticeable, where the scratches are more visible, is on the silver border next to the screen, not that it look bad or anything.
Black housing - Where?
I would like to know where you can buy a black housing for your Ameo, mine needs a new one as well!
And what about your keyboard, can you get a black one too?

Silver / AMEO
Hi guys,
Proud owner of a wonderful brick since 6 months in grey color I should say that if I new I would have choosen a different color.
The grey AMEO housing is far from being "time resistant"...
Since few weeks the "video camera" around the front cam as disappeared and the "Alert" will soon do the same.
I allways take good care of my stuf and I'am bit disapointed for a 1.000 bucks machine to see it !

Hi,
Just a quick update on the new housing. It's arrived, and I put it on. It looks great, so glad I got black. Thanks to those who took the trouble to answer this post so well.
If anyone needs a new housing for their device then let me know and I will let you know where to get them from. He claims to have a few left!

The X7501 does not have the internal or 2nd camera, the X7500 does. So I would have a big hole in my unit if I used that one. I don't know if the inside layout is any different but that's the only visible thing on the external end.
I need a new housing too.
Anychance you could PM me a link or contact for this.
Thanks in advance.

LMAO dude have you been drinking? The 7501 has 1 camera and the 7500 and the 7510 has 2. I own the 7501 which is also cheaper than the 7500. I suggest you google them and you'll see the difference.
tootallk is correct. 7501 has 1.

hi
you are talking about a extra case to protect the athena right?, the thread is about replacing the cover / housing of the athena itself, a step that becomes nesesary when you not use case like your nutshell .
anyhow (and to really come back to subject ) i have to replace my housing too and wonder, why nobody can simply post the web/email adress of a reseller here?. i searched alot now an only find companies in asia and prices 'far away from reality', so if someone know a good reseler please post here.

Buying a used TyTn II (Kaiser, not Tilt), anything to check for?

Hey guys, I'll be buying a used Kaiser sometime this week, is there anything in particular I should be checking to see if it works?
Just want to be sure not to get a fake (if its possible)/ defective unit.
Thanks
I've yet to see a phony Kaiser so if it's new, you should be good to go. If it's used, check everything like the sound, camera, sliding mechanism, etc.
Don't forget to check the USB port

As well as the USB port functionality both for charging and with Activesync (but then 'everthing' as mentioned, includes this). I saw someone recently who bought one secondhand and the USB port was faulty. My advise to the o/p is it's risky business unless you really know what you're looking for.
check if warez is installed or what, u dont wanna get in trouble for that!
Make sure the lint roller still has sticky tape on it.
If you don't mind the device being branded I would go for the T-Mobile MDA Vario III (kais130). The Dpad is sturdier and I find it look better in silver. The letters T-mobile and MDA peel off very easy, that's if you want them away. Slightly scratch them away with a scalpel or other extreme sharp knife, leaving no marks at all. I did it and posted pics somewhere... here
Hey Chumley, what exactly do you mean with:

Dust Caps?!?!?

I was wondering if anyone has any links to dust caps for the mini-USB and 3.5mm phone jack?
I don't use the phone jack all that much and I noticed it getting a bit dusty.
Cheers!
i would like this,
just go to mobile phone shops and pinch the ones of the dummy models, any one surely other manufacturers have caps for this sort of thing.
which phone originally have this? cause dummy phone is exactly the same like the actual model so i think xperia dummy also should not have right
ahh dust caps.. In need of those!
There are only 2 solutions:
1) http://www.instructables.com/id/Apple-IPhone-Headphone-Jack-Plug/
2) http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15259
Tell me if you ordered one for the Xperia. [iphone 3G headphone socket/port should be the same as Xperia's port]. After that tell me if it is a good plug.
i mean pinch them of any dummy phone not the xperia dummy model,
gotta pop to voda shop todaytake my GF crappy W980 back for repair 6 times now, ill have a look,
im not gonna pay for a small piece of rubber.
Dust caps... hmm... sounds useful... unfortunately haven't heard of anything like for these either over here in Singapore.
same here. if any news for where to find in Singapore pls share.

MyTouch/Sapphire housing

Hey all! I just wanted to share what I found. Not to sure if anyone found this and or mentioned it here somewhere. I looked around and saw another post asking about it. But thats all I saw. I am not sure how easy it is to dis-assemble the device and or how well the housing varies with hardware. I changed my T-Mobile Wing into the HTC 4520 with housing replacement, yes they were the exact same hardware wise yet some components were off some how. I had changed more then a few others that wanted the HTC branded housing and same so idk. I'm going to order one of these soon so i will share with pics of my experience unless someone does it first. Here you all go.

Nice I was JUST looking for housings. Thanks for the heads up!
Just in case you guys aren't aware, 32A and 32B motherboards are different, so a HTC Magic housing will not fit a MyTouch, and vice versa.

ya i had a feeling about this. but i think im still gonna try and see what needs to be modded. you never know, htc might have made the molds the same so they dont lose on machining time. like i said in op my wing and the 4520 were off by just a lil but i still got it to work 100%. I only had to switch out the keyboards so i bet this will probably work. I will get it and try it out for mt3g users.

I'm speaking from personal experience. I bought a G2 case from ebay, and the case has some holes on the opposite side of where the MyTouch case has them. I ordered a second one and had to return it because despite asking the seller in advance if it indeed was for a MyTouch and not an HTC branded phone they didn't have the right one. I've seen recently that some have started popping out on ebay that state "will fit US models" or something to that effect, these should be safe. My advice is to ask before you buy if it will fit a T-Mobile MyTouch, and what happens if it doesn't fit after you order it.
yep i can confirm. the thickness is different. but i managed to match them i have a 32a front and back pannel (black). And 32b middle section (silver UK Vodafone stock). This works just fine. Otherwise your vibration motor will never work since it is to tight.

I double that, I just figuered that out the other day while I was trying to change the housing for my magic.
I was wondering if anyone has found a source for a housing replacement that will automatically fit the 32B? I am in search of one and can't seem to find one. I found some that say mytouch compatible but I think they will have the same issue as mentioned here about being different on the inside.
Thanks.

yea the housings cause vibrator problems.
I bring great news, I e-mailed cnn.cn asking when they will have MT3G housings in stock and they replied saying they should have it in stock in early march.

I bought one of the housings available from the website posted in the OP (and quoted above). The only part of my MT3G that was messed up and scratched was the front face plate, so I didn't bother trying to swap out the rest of the housing. The face plate fits perfectly and looks awesome. The chrome buttons and HTC logo instead of the T-Mobile logo give it a much nicer look. $17 to make my phone look nicer and brand new again is not a bad deal at all.
I'd actually be willing to bet that, with some minor modifications to the middle section of the housing, we could get this entire kit to fit our MT3G's. We'd need to drill a tiny hole for the mic (the one that shipped to me has the mic hole on the opposite side), and perhaps cut away at some of the plastic near the vibration motor to allow it to move freely, but it should work. I might try this if I get bored. I'll let you know if I have any success.
Thanks for posting the site.

It was okay, but just okay. It definitely looks like OEM product, even down to the fact that the HTC branding was tinged blue instead of being silver and the middle chassis part was cracked. I waited 3 weeks for it to arrive in this condition, and I'm still struggling to get a refund from him so I can try another seller. Don't waste your time with him.
I did notice one or two listings on ebay actually do say original not OEM, one in particular from the UK, going to give one of those a try.

btw both are similar products but 2 different sellers.
none of those come with screws. and one of them states, I would need existing "screw holes" idk what that means, I believe these "screw holes" are already inside my pre existing housing (stock).
sorry but these guys are foreign sellers and have bad communication skills, most of there responses are half assed.

[Q] GPS hardware gone bad on HD2

Hi all,
My HD2 running HyperDroid v12 from Pongster is a dream phone. Everything is working excellent except recently I got the digitizer changed from a local shop here in LA and in the process of fixing the digitizer the idiot seems to have ruined my GPS related hardware (which obviously he is not owning up to). I tried all sorts of software remedies (including changing ROMS) but nothing seems to get a GPS lock.
My questions is -
Is there any way to buy and replace the GPS receiver in the phone?
Thanks
The guy might have accidentally removed the connection from the circuit board, I remember seeing threads from before of other's doing the same thing when fixing the digitizer.

They tell you what you need, and instead of the "flat plastic stick", a guitar pick should be fine.
- No need to remove speaker from housing.
- Ignore everything from 1:47, and look at 3:22 from the disassembly video, instead of removing the gps coaxial cable, check if it's actually connected properly, if not, just push it in.

I'll try and find those threads I remember reading, in which the OP and other members had the same problem after replacement of digitizer.

Hi Moon,
I followed the steps in the videos you provided and opened my HD2. The GPS coaxial cable seems to be fit in snug, which I guess is indicative that the GPS antenna itself may have gone bad somehow. Possible?
I did a little searching and found this link where I can buy an antenna from -
http://www.gsm4world.us/oem-htc-hd2-t8585-gps-antenna-board-flex-ribbon-cable-d-03752_579.html
That said, I am not too comfortable trying to replace it by myself. Any chance anybody knows a person/shop in the LA area who may have expertise in such jobs? The one I found in Glendale (CellularDR) is the reason this has happened so I'm not too keen on re-visiting them.
Thanks again for all the help!
Can't you get a separate external GPS receiver and bluetooth it?
It kinda beats the purpose of havnig a all in one device, plus you need to always watch 2 batteries and not just one . But, I must say it is the safe option and worth considering.

New back housing w/antennas
I had to replace the back housing on my phone as it broke (it looked like the plastic had deteriorated), and the new one comes with all 3 antenna attached, and a new battery cover for less than US 20.00. I have better reception now on all 3 radios, and the phone looks new again. If your have to take it apart anyway, why not replace the whole back? I got it from these people, eBay item 350487086071, but there are tons out there, and it was dead simple. Unscrewed the four screws, used the plastic piece to pop the snaps, and that was it.
YMMV, but for only 20, you can rule out the antennas if nothing else.
