Blackberry client for XDA IIi - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

Hi I would appreciate if someone could point me to where I can get this from. I used to have this on my XDA II. I upgraded to IIi and cannot locate this application from O2UK site. Ther, it is a part of the overall new ROM for XDA II.
Thanks in advance.

I beleive that this will have to be built into a new ROM. I have an xda2s. Many have tried but failed to extract the relevant cabs from the xda 2 and get blackberry working on the 2s. No luck after about 6 months it seems... So I suspect its the same flr the 2i have to wait for the ROM upgrade :-(

Not true. O2 should be releasing roms for xda2s and xda2i quite soon according to my contacts.

Thanks for the information guys. It is what I suspected. Looks like it will be a test of patience :?
jdee246, I hope your contacts are reliable; Here's to hoping.

I concur with jd246. I have receievd a few tech support responses indicating August or Septemebr release of xda 2s ROM with Blackberry client. Also heard from one forum member that is trialing it right now, so we should be close..

This is very exciting news if it actually happens. Like many other O2 customers, my patience is wearing really thin - don't you just love the way O2 releases products in blaze of glory, promising updates that never materialise and having internal support teams that never seem connected enough to get a straight answer.
To all those with HTC devices outside of O2, stay there! Behind their Show-rooms O2 is completely disconnected.

I am using both IIs and IIi clients, and have done since November last year. The ones I have now, released from RIM - you know, the guys that actually write the BB software in Canada - in the last month, are the only usable versions. Previous versions have had major interop problems (especially with Activesync).
And all operators need RIM to write the software for the new models, and RIM must do a good job, and if they don't they won't release it....
From what I know, it's out the 1st week of October on the UK website.

Ah..!! Southern Man!... I was going to protect your identity I am glad that we are so close. Great news indeed. Any thoughts on when we might see the same for the Wizard and Universal? ;-)
Regards
Chris

We'll believe it when we see it! 02 have promised this for so long, and then in the next words of wisdom said that they have no plans to bring a Blackberry Client out for the s or the i.
I am not disputing your using the client - just that fact about 02 actually releasing it to us....the paying public....that bought their pda's expecting it to do something that it won't!
But....we do live in hope :-D

Yes, we all live in hope...for without hope, there would only be O2 Active!

Blackberry On MDAIII on T-Mobile UK
But I am also confused... I was in the UK last week and went into a T-Mobile UK store. They had the MDA III in there (aka xdaIIs) and the brochure said it has Blackberry client connectivity...? Is this true and does it work? If yes, why couldn't we use that ROM on the xdaIIs. Anyone know??
Regards
Chris

Is this what your looking for?

I guess that this is forthe XDA II ? If so I believe that it will only install on that device.

I don't use Blackberry but I have installed it on my XDA IIi and it seems to be ok (no error messages), I just copied it across and ran it.

Ah! But does it work?
Try it...

OK I've installed this to my O2 XDA IIi
Installed the client software from the MY-XDA Website for the XDA II
Had my Corporate Account enabled with Blackberry Enterprise Server 3.6
Bu the XDAIIi Doesn't show an IP Address which I guess it needs before it starts up.
Does blackberry needed a certain enabled sim card? I can connect to O2 Active (Mobile Web) So GPRS Is ok.
Any Ideas Guys?

check this out

it might help

CHeers,
What I thought but just heard our Corporate Blackberry has moved from o2 to Vodafone so this is going to be fun lol.
All becuase someone didn't release you need to enable the voice on the o2 account d'oh

[REQ] Windows Mobile 5 on XDA IIi

Hi, Does anyone know if there is an update to XDA IIi to Windows Mobile 5.0.
I know there is one for the Himalaya version of XDA.
I have spoken to 02 and they say that it is highly unlikely and would be releasing the XDA II Exec with WM2005. Any info would be gratefully received.
Mod edit: Please be sure to mark requests with [REQ]
Double post deleted.
And there is currently no WM 5 for that device.
Can't the admins just delete these threads and/or ban the thread starters? I mean how many times has this thread been posted, 200, 300?
The thing is that that new people arrives every day.
New people don't know what we know, new people don't/can't consume all the content of this site that fast.
Banning new people won't do xda-dev any good.
Deleting the posts will only give us even more of these post :!:
So the best thing for those that feel irritated by it, just overlook them and move on
Thread moved from mod. upgrade, unlock to Alpine
WM2005
Apologies to the anybody who is not happy with my post.
Don't worry about them!!!If you don't know, you have the right to ask!!!However, before that you should read some thread about the topic you want to know!!!
Cheers mate
I have been watching posts for two months, and still have not been able to understand "yes", "no" or "maybe soon...."
People talk Blueangel, da da da...
I want clear talk about XDA IIi or Alpine. Don't be jumping on people to review old threads when it is hard enough knowing which model people are actually referring to...
I too am interested in reading if anyone has recently tried a 2005 mod on XDA IIi (Alpine), and what problems they may have encountered.
blueclue7, the WM2005 ROM is not for the Alpine, it is for the Himalaya.
The hardware is totally different between the two devices, it will not work.
There is no WM2005 build for the Alpine yet, maybe never, we don't know yet.
The Alpine has WM2003se, and so far, that is all there is.
WM2003 exists for the Alpine in 2 main versions so far, both have bugs. Most of these bugs would probably be solved by WM2005, but guess what, there isn't a WM2005 build yet.
Oh, by the way, WM2005 for the Himilaya won't work on the Alpine, just as it won't work on the Blue Angel, or the Magician, or any other PPC other than the Himalaya.
hi guys u have just bought an xda2i off ebay. I am regretting it before it has arrived due to the lushness of wm2005 and you guys saying it wont be coming to xda2i. How come its coming to the older xda2 arghhh. I may have to make them program an update at gunpoint.
if you want i can trade you my MDAII? heheh
WM2005 on XDA IIi
It will be interesting when they release the Universal with WM2005, as it is technically the XDAIIi is similar. So hopefully it will be just a matter of time before someone reverse engineers the Universal Rom for XDAIIi.
Unless of course the 02/I-Mate/Qtek etc do the sensible thing and release an offical upgrade.
I don't see how Microsoft and PDA makers can whine about priacy, when people have spent good money for a new release PDA, only to be told it has the old software and even though it is capable of accepting the WM2005 upgrade....easily, we won't do it cause we don't think our customers are that important, welcome to the money grabbing world of Microsoft and many others.
I hope Microsoft and PDA people read this and learn!!!!

Hello, there is some good news from our friend at blue angel forum, some one from that forum asked his frien if there's any update WM5 for Blue Angel, and his friend (who is HTC rep) said "YES!!!"
I read that post three times, ( i wondering if my english is really bad or there will be update for HTC Blue Angle ) Here's the link :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=147760#147760
and for me that is "good" new ( May be a bit, but better than nothing), there is a hope they also make up date for HTC Alpine because it's younger :? . Yah... just hope....
or some one will give the WM5 Himalaya cooker a new HTC Alpine????
I'm sure he'll make that (WM5) work on HTC Alpine...
should we start a petition?
why not ?
WM5
hey... good idea...
Great News Again
Hei XDA IIi lovers, i got some ( I think good news ), i post some email to O2 asia asking if they will release WM5 for IIi and their answer :
"There are no firm plans as yet to offer this particular upgrade to customers of existing Xda devices"
But.... don't stop there ......., after that they wrote :
"but we are studying market demand for this platform, and we will certainly consider offering it in the future if there are sufficient requests for it from our customers"
Do you all get it???
they just need to know if there's sufficient request...
I guest i've start my petition.... How about we all start to petition right now....
hehe i wont hold my breath but i might aswell put my name down for the petition.

Gimmie WM2005 NOW !!!
---------------------
Okay, lets finish this thread now, Here are the FACTS !!
WM2005 IS NOT RELEASED YET
The Himalaya build is a internal release by microsoft which was leaked to the world and then modified by our good friends buzz Lightyear and co. This build was specially written for microsoft employees on the wm2005 program as the majority of them have himalaya devices.
This new OS will be released officially on the next generation of XDA devices which will probably incorparate 3G technology as well.
So NO The current WM2005 builds that are doing the rounds WILL NEVER be available for other platforms as the hard ware is completely different from platform to platform.
All you can hope for is that
a) It is officially released for your device then modified like Wm2003SE for Himalaya.
b) Some one will swap you there XDA II device.
c) Get a copy of Wisbar Advance and skin it to look like Magento (This actually looks more polished than the actual WM2005 in my opinion.
I personally have a M1000, Orange version of the XDA II which i upgraded to WM2003SE after 3 days of it arriving, then upgraded to WM2005 1.60b which i am now running..... it's the best phone/thing i've ever had.....plus i got it cheap thanks to a price mistake on Orange's website

dopod blue angel

Ok I will attempt to sound somewhat intelligent with this......
i purchased an xda IIs from ebay, dopod is the comm company, comes with WM2003wwe version 1.40 has all the good stuff and Blackberry connect.
I have a Blackberry from T-Mobile USA and I want to use the sim card in my xda and get the Blackberry service working on it as well.
Thats the problem, don't know how to change the APN settings.
Would also like to upgrade the device to WM5 but it looks like there are no Blackberry enterprise programs that work on WM5???
Educate me please....
Thanks for the time so far and these forums are really helpfull, will be putting some donations in the cup later...
Oh yes I forgot, if any of you already have a package set up to get this rolling??????
might be a good idea the package thing eh?

T-Mobile UK ROM soon?

Like the rest of us fed up T-Mob vario users i sent an email to tmob asking when we are going to get this blasted upgrade and the reply I got can mean one of two things:
- The ROM is going to be available real soon
- The person sending the email is mentally ungifted
Hello Philip
Thanks for your email about updating the firmware on your phone.
I'm sorry to hear that you still haven't been able to upgrade your MDA Vario. I can understand this must be frustrating for you.
I can tell you that there's the opportunity to update the firmware on your phone.
Please feel free to click on the following so you can do this http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/index.html.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact me Philip and I do hope you can upgrade your phone soon.
If you have any other questions about this then please let me know and I'll be happy to help.

Now from that I (probably rather optimistically) take that she thought the ROM would be available by the time I get the email so maybe they know something we dont (told you I was being optimistic).
Fingers crossed
don't hold your breath...
I emailed them months back, and had a phone call from one of the TMobile customer services guys a few days later, promising me the upgrade would be available to download "next week"..
That was around the easter bank holiday, so much for their promises..
looks like the good old generic email repsonse... giving you the location where the rom is located... no sign of a new one though...
Yeah had the same crap from them with my magician, overpromising and underdelivering. The hold up with this update of course being down to T-Mobile not being sure whether releasing AKU2 would screw up their blackberry sales.
Note to t-mobile: Blackberry sucks and overpriced whereas exchange is too complicated for most people to set up so you will still get your suckers paying for BB. Just give us AKU2 because if you don't then anyone who wants to use it will just use a different ROM and make damn sure that they never buy t-mobile again.
Hi Guys
My first post!
Herman
I notice you are using an o2 rom on your vario. is it any better?
I have had a vario for a week now and its too slow. i want to change to a better rom but do not know which to go for.
bhayani
Well welcome to the forums,
the O2 ROM does seem faster and definitly more stable. I was having quite a few niggles with the Tmob ROM in that respect. I still decided to overclock it though to increase responsiveness.
Im even using the O2 extended rom and just added the T-Mob GPRS settings:
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk <-- .uk not .co.uk
username: user
password: pass
Hope that helps
Thx Herman
I have been onto the o2 site but they want my imei number and o2 phone number so couldn't really get any further. is there another way of getting the roms?
bhayani
take a look at the ftp site: ftp://xda:[email protected] in the wizard folder
U may need to unlock your phone before you can update, search the forums for instructions on flashing your phone with the rom.
I've just spoken to T-Mobile and I've been told that the release of the UK AKU2 update is indeed imminent. Apparently, the update itself is tested and ready, and the only delay is the meetings that are currently going on to decide the launch details.
Apparently, this update will also include or be released at the same time as the Blackberry Connect software in the UK.

currently using cingulars one which summiter had "amended" - very good.
not sure if ill take up t-mobiles new rom when it arrives... it'd need to be something special...
To all of you using non T Mobile Roms out there. What keyboard layout has the alternative Rom given you? i.e is it still a UK keyboard layout?

Anyone heard any new news on this?
I read on a forum today that it would be launched week begining 19th June. here's the link for the source:
http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/2006/05/24/605828.aspx#618053
fingers crossed..! I think we've waited for too long...
I gave up - constant resets, whilst on the phone etc.
I now use the Qtek 2.17.7.2 WWE. it is so much more responsive & hasn't yet reset on its own accord yet. I've been using it for 2 weeks now & I've set up the push email for use via mail2web detailed else where on xda developers.
Wifi g works fine, as does syncing with my iMac (both OSX & XP).
I don't use MMS so I'm not sure if I've set it up correctly.
..by the time TMobile UK release AKU2.0 every other carrier will probably be rolling out their AKU2.2/2.3 implementation!
http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/download_manager_mda_vario.html
I found this on their website. Is this what you guys are looking for?
this is the link pointing to the current ROM. the new one, the one we're all waiting for, should appear on that website (hopefully soon). Maybe the 19th?

Windows Mobile 7

Hi all,
I hope you all had a great Xmas.
This is just a follow on from my preious post, in which I was asking for advice on whether I should get a Tytn II (thanks to all that replied to that post, by the way). I think I have made up my mind and will probably get a T-Mobile branded Vario III here in the UK.
My question is regarding the upcoming Windows Mobile 7 operating system...
How soon is this likely to be released? I heard on a mobile tech podcast that it could be as early as Q1 2008, with handsets being released with Win Mob 7.
How would this affect a purchase of the Vario III now? Would Win Mob 7 be a possible upgrade for the Tytn 2 / Vario III? I realise that any OS upgrade would be an operator decision, so how likely would T-Mobile UK release an upgrade for the Vario III? If not, would I be able to easily get hold of a Win Mob 7 ROM from these forums when the time comes? What about the most recent Win Mob 6.1 upgrade?
Apologies for all the questions, but it has thrown a small stone in the works regarding my purchase of the Vario III.
Any advice will be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Munkee
I'm not an expert, and do not have any links to (relevant) device producers or Microsoft.
But my understanding is that Q1 2008 will see the release of WinMo 6.1 Pro (The one out now is for non-touchscreen devices only). WinMo 7.0 is being worked on intensively, however from what I have read it won't be out till end 2008/early 2009.
Apparently WinMo 7.0 will be somewhat of a revolution though.
My advice to you: if you like the Kaiser, get it. 2 years ago, I held my breath because of the Samsung F700 (a friend working at Samsung had leaked the info)...I ended up waiting till this October, when I thought "screw it". Got the Kaiser instead (was on the Universal till then), and never looked back (the F700 was released in Nov, with most of the promised features omitted).
Nice little story, eh?! You get the point.

Horrible post... I've just spent most of my Christmas holiday flashing my TyTN, re-flashing the flash, tweaking the re-flashed custom home cooked Dutty/Sleuth/Alex/Q/Schaps - and I've just got my phone how I like it ..... for today...
..... and then someone comes along and wiggles WM7 in front of my USB port.
Oh well, my Kaiser goes the same way as my Hermes, Wizard etc... If only I could stop flashing for a while I'd probably have time to sell the old phones

Rule Number 1 of Technology Buying:
Buy now unless there is an impending update(like next week or month).
I wouldn't worry about WM7 too much but about WM 6.1 which we'll probably all get an update for from our respective carriers(for people like me who run a carrier-based ROM like Alex's) So, just buy it and tinker away!
beret9987 you just snatched the words out of my mouth. I absolutely share your views. I think all existing WM6 devices will be upgradeable to 6.1 which will see the light of the day in Q1 of 2008 while WM7 is too far away to influence our present buying decisions."
Regards
I think its no point waiting for WM7. You know about Microsoft, especially their Vista release on time. Though if they're gonna release WM7 anytime sooner or later, our kings at the xda will bring it to existing devices Lol.. So just go ahead for a good WM6 device. Kaiser is good and powerful and at the same time a little huge and heavy. I love the Artemis for the design and weight.
I wrote an article on how to buy the best windows mobile device. Not an expert over there but your suggestions welcome!

Glad to hear, great decision as the Kaiser is a great phone (especially if you get T-Mobiles web n walk unlimited data package...they sell it in the UK for 7.50pounds, don't know how much it is in the States though.)
And once you've flashed it with one of the wonderful ROMs here, you and your Kaiser will be flying like Vince Carter...
Enjoy,
H.
well ... my opinion might look a bit sarcastic, but since my old XDA II was re-born with WM6 (thx to ToFlock and other gurus here) I took a decision to wait at least for 6 months before buying a new rom-based device ... my criteria is to get a new device ONLY if it contains a new H/W that I might need ... I moved from XDA to XDA II for the camera and BT ... then moved to Universal for the VGA and WIFI .. then moved to Kaiser for the larger ram and GPS ... WM7 or else won't be the base for my decision of a new device.
Yeah.. I'd say Get kaiser now instead of waiting for WM7.
By the time WM7 device is out, you'll eventually hear through some rumours and leaked images of next-best-n-cool device(WM 8? or new codename)
There is no end to this feeling
So get it now and start Enjoy !!

Yup, i'm in the UK and am specifically looking at this device on T-Mobile mainly because of the £7.50 Web'N'Walk data plan. As for flashing the Vario III with one of the ROMs found here, how would this affect my contract with T-Mobile? If I do indeed flash the Vario with one of the ROMs, would I just need to hope that I don't ever need to take the handset back to T-Mobile if I ever have problems with it? ;o)
Thanks,
Munkee
P.S. I really need to change my Vince Carter sig.....glad he's not with the Raptors anymore! ;o)

Unfortunately I was told the same thing ("about a month or two") about 6 months ago.
HTC support is very disorganized, and even to get that out of them I had to go through about 5 different people, who all spoke very broken English.
I will not be buying another HTC product; ever.

frankly .ur reply made me sick.
do u mean u a going to buy another brand who hires good english speaking workers?
after all htc is the brand from taiwan. they speak chinese.
Depending on which departments he was at broken english might not be a good thing. Their offices in Taiwan yes broken english is understandable. But their main customer support line should have a few people if not everyone who can speak english decently. Europe and the North American region have a fair ammount of people purchasing their devices who speak english in one of its flavors.
I think that the language issue hit more upon that user due to the lack of informative people he kept getting transferred to time after time.
(At least I hope that's all it is )
any updates for now?

If I spend a large sum of money on a cell phone, with a warranty, I expect the company to honour it. Being given the run around by people reading off screens with no follow-up is bad customer service. Them not being able to speak passable English is also annoying. Nothing sick or inappropriate about that one champ. If another brand offers me better support, and cares after the customers after the purchase, I will (and did) go that route.
Also, in Taiwan they speak both Chinese and Taiwanese. I visited almost a year ago with some of my co-workers. Just an FYI, bud.

Please not that the download is only available for HTC branded handsets, i.e. handsets that are not from a network provider such as Orange, T-Mobile, O2 etc... Funny. I was given the exact same reply yesterday.
Only thing that bothers me is that the upgrade for the TyTNII has been released some time ago (correct me if I'm wrong) and the upgrade for the Touch Cruise has also been released several weeks ago. They don't mention the upgrade for the Touch Dual which has also recently seen daylight. So I hope they know what they are talking about. Anyway it gives some hope though.
I doubt it'll be any better than Alcaline's excellent version.
The cooked are crap only the SMS chat owns
Official new ROM out
So, the update file is finally posted on the HTC web site.
I installed, and it seems to run fine, but too early to give a final opinion. Memory management 'feels' better.
BTW: Where in the version numbers does one see it's really 6.1? And is there a list out there of improvements over 6.0?
Hi Hfrank,
version number: start -> settings -> about -> in top of screen.
Is there an sms-chat in the update?
"About" only shows: Windows Mobile 6 Standard
CE OS 5.2.1622 (Build 18128.0.4.4) - so not easy for someone like me to see the exact version (if I didn't know better I'd think OS 5.2 means WM 5.2, not 6.0 or 6.1 .
"Is there an sms-chat in the update?"
Haven't found one yet.
The more I think about it, it seems this is a bugfix update, but not update to 6.1...?
Hi
There isn't coming any 6.1 update for this phone. On the swedish site www.mobil.se there was a couple of weeks ago a chat with Christer Högström from HTC.
I asked him when the 6.1 update was to be released and the answer in swedish was:
"Det var planerat att uppgrader S730 till Wm6.1 men med den minnes kapasitet som finns på produkten blev det lite svårt att ge kunden en bra upplevelse. Där emot kommer vi med en Standard uppdatering till S730 om ca 2 veckor som förbättrar radio stabiliteten."
Quick translation: It was planed to upgrade s730 to WM 6.1 but with the memory capacity on the product it became hard to give the user a decent user experience. But we will come with a standard update that will improve radio stability.
Heres is the chat: http://www.mobil.se/ArticlePages/200810/28/20081028094638_MOB813/20081028094638_MOB813.dbp.asp
Sorry guys!
