Removing Shortcuts - PDA2, XDA IIi, 2020i General

hi,
i would like to ask, why i cant remove shortcut for Album, Camera and application provided by the telecomunication service from \Windows\Start Menu\Programs ?????
I can delete it or move it but after soft reset, it will be back. This 3 shortcut seem like belong to that folder....i also dont know.....any idea's ?????
thanks

There are some files in the \Windows\Startup folder that re-install various features.
Removing "Camera_Detect" will stop the re-installation of the camera and the others are probably done using a similar method.
Graham.

thanks Graham.... that true.... but i lost quality of camera....

That's a side effect I wasn't aware of.
I was looking for a way to turn off the camera entirely so I did not notice any performance problems.
I'll bear that in mind should it be an issue here.
Sorry I can't be of more use on this one.

anyway...thanks very much Gbird.....at least i already know something from nothing.... thanks again!

Recently Used Apps menu

Can someone tell me how to "clear" the recently used apps when you hit the start menu? I find it cluttering and would like to clear it if not eliminate it altogether. Any ideas? Thanks!
sometimes help soft reset, but not everytime..
there is a software.. called.. "clearmenu", or "clearitem".. or just "clear" which is attached to many cooked rom, that is to be installed to your Windows/Startup folder.. which will clear everything in your most recent used list on every soft reset. You can clear it without soft reset, in case you are wondering. and soft reset will not do the job if you dont have the software.
i do not want to spam this thread and discuss it with you, but do not agree with

interesting.. but can I check with you the OS that you are using? Or, better still, you just go into your "\Windows\Start up\" to check if there are anything there, that starts with a 'clear'?
Anyway, since you said "sometimes" soft reset works, I would assume that it is not a repeatable process. If that's the case, probably that the 'sometimes' is the case where the regsitry got messed up and the 'recent used list' gone, and hence coincidently it worked as you wanted to.
Anyway, it is quite a new discovery, but just check with me the `start up` menu (better still, list everything there, can't be too much stuff there), to see if there are any working ones there.
ok, what i want to say is that clearing with apps you mentioned is not only one solution and as you correctly typed, it is done only "sometimes" and i was never trying find out when this happened (or why). now correct?
Help
Ok, guys, there has to be a better way to clean out the recently used apps menu. Anyone???
there is a registry hack... anyone????
Use MortScript and create a text file called cleanup.mscr and place the following in there:
Code:
ErrorLevel off
RegDeleteKey HKCU,Software\Microsoft\Shell\TaskSwitch,1,1
Place this file in \Windows\StartUp and it will clean up the Recent Menu Items in the Start Menu at every reboot.
big thanks!
do you happen to know the reg location of "recent programs" listed in "start"?
Delete the string entries in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\TaskSwitch then soft-reset. That'll get rid of the recently used app list on the Start Menu.
I have been using the attached file since I had my Wizard and it works great on my Kaiser too! Just put the "startclean.exe" in your "\windows\startup" folder and it will remove the most recently used apps from the menu after each soft reset.
Someone posted this file a long time ago and I can no longer find the thread.
Use this program !!
http://mobile-sg.com/software/?p=ClearTemp&platform=ppc
soft reset is OPTIONAL !!
Maybe I am overlooking something... but, is there a way to permanently prevent recently used applications from showing up in the Start menu?
Thanks!

New WM6/Tilt user, please help!

Hello-
I'm new to Windows Mobile (I've been on Palm OS for at least 5 years) and I have AT&T Tilt (8925).
I've been playing around with it for a while, and there's still some things I have questions on-
1)How do I complete remove some programs that I do not want and don't appear under "Remove Programs"? I know they're located in the Windows folder, but I get a Error 5 whenever I try to delete them- I think they're read-only or something...
2) I'm also having problems with the GPS receiver. At times it will work great, acquiring a signal in seconds, and other times it won't work at all, searching for a long time to find nothing. I use Live Search and Google Maps and have the same problem with both.. Any ideas?
3) Coming from Palm OS, I'm used to text messages coming up in a view. Is there a way to change that?
4) I modified my PTT button to work as any program. Is there a specific registry key I can set it to so that it acts as a power button?
5) I use gmail and I'm using their IMAP service. Some of my messages are appearing blank when downloaded. Was I supposed to change settings or something? Why does it only work for some and not others?
6) And last but not least, does anybody have any good mod/util programs to recommend?
Thanks for your help
Also,
7) Does anyone know how to disable the sound on the 3G launch screen when the device reboots?
I havent got too many answers to your questions, but this would be a sart at least.
KaiserTweak has many necessary customizations (but I dont think it addresses most of your questions.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898
The apps you want to remove sounds like the Cingular built-in ones. In that case you can avoid installing them by doing a hard reset, and rebooting before it installs the carrier customizations.
This article gives a step by step howto.

Also this page was useful in getting my GPS problems sorted out. The GPSTEST software seemed to cure the problem all by itself (and its freeware)

Yeah, I've got KaiserTweak already, I love it.
In terms of the "bloatware", that is indeed what I want to remove, but there's also some that I want to keep... Is there a way to remove programs that arent in "Remove Programs"?
Not AFAIK, but the actual AT&T apps are available as a separate cab in this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332438
Unfortunately they are still bundled together, but at leas they can be cleanly uninstalled.

Even after bypassing the bloatware install, the CAB files should still be on the device for you to install them on your own. Might take a bit of digging to find the proper ones and you may need something like Resco Explorer, or Total Commander to "see" them. I think the built in file explorer hides some of the system files, but I couldn't tell you much more than that.
Thanks. The GPS Fix doesn't seem to do much- am I missing something?

Are you able to run it. You should be able to use it to test the function of your GPS device, and find out what port it uses etc. Its a smartphone program, so you have to use it using the keys, not the touch screen.

It seems to help and it's definately a very useful app. I'll let you know if my problems persist.
Does anyone have any ideas on the other issues I'm having?

My first hard reset - what can I expect?

So I'm wanting to do my first hard reset.
It doesn't look like we're going to get any video drivers (soon or if ever), so I'm looking to try and squeeze some more performance out of my device. I've read that a hard reset makes things a bit better.
I've also installed and uninstalled a TON of software while trying to learn what I like and don't. I've figured out what I want and I've decided that what I'm installing should all be on my memory card anyway. So, the memory in the device is fragmented and I'm probably taking a performance hit from that.
What I want to know, is what to expect? What am I going to lose? I have an AT&T tilt. If I do a hard reset - I don't have to flash the ROM or anything like that, do I? Is it like performing a hard reset on any other phone? (Loss of contacts, pre-installed software from the service provider, etc etc)
Is it any different with a PPC?
After looking around, I didn't find much as to getting this question directly answered. If it is posted somewhere, can someone link me to it?
Thanks in advance!
It will simply go back to its "out of the box" state, like the very first time you turned it on.
The pre-installed software from the provider will load up again automatically, in five or ten minutes, you'll be good to go.
Then just adjust the settings to your personal taste/preferences, install the software you've found on xda-developers or elsewhere (I take it you have them backed up on your card or PC?) and you're back in the game!

What about installed applications on the storage-card? Are they automatically recognized again or do they require reinstallation?

just like when installing a windows-based computer, the applications installed on the storage card will not be automatically recognised, since the entry in the registry and all the .dll files from /windows directory are gone. you need to get the "kit" for a certain application - namely the .cab file - and reinstall it again, even if it will overwrite the most number of files on the card itself.
hope i was somehow clear.
cheers,

Good thing I'm already backing up my CAB's too somewhere in case my Kaiser should crash.
Thanks for clearing that up!
Dont forget to hide under your desk while its reseting.
If your contacts are saved on your sim, you can easily access them too. Just fyi...

*The reason you hide is silly. You really just need to close your eyes tightly. When you hard reset there is a gamma light energy release that has been known to slightly burn the retina of peoples eyes. Over time this can cause cataracts. So look away or close your eyes tightly.

Camera Problems

I have this problem with the camera on the herald.
Once I press the camera button, it does nothing, but the screen and dpad lights up. That's it. The program doesn't even open.
After that, I tried to open it through the programs folder and still nothing happens...
Does anyone have the cab file for the latest camera build for herald or a fix to this problem. It's been bothering me for so long.
Also, once I am able to obtain the fix or cab file, I will have completed a new rom for the herald AND wing that will publish ASAP.
Any help would be appreciated! =]

All I can tell you, I already said in the PM. I've done this before, twice now that I think about it. Once I just started the ROM from scratch, the second time... umm.... I don't remember how, but I fixed it. It was a small dumb little file, too... send me a copy of the ROM, RGU's and all and I'll see what could be missing. Or download my ROM and try to match the OEMAPP folders between them and see what files you're missing.

That's exactly what i did, i used your rom to compare with mine and everything is basically the same...
I also started from scratch again and it still won't work. I'm starting to believe that it may be a program that i have added to the rom.
Did you check ALL the OEM folders? Or just the OEMAPPS? What have you added if you don't mind revealing it to the world.

do you still want me to send you my .nbh file so you can take a look?
I'm not home right now, but go ahead. Make sure you leave the RGUs intact, though. It might be something in the registry as well.
I glanced over it quickly and found the following files missing from your ROM that were in my ROM. I didn't look TOO hard so I may have missed a few things.
OEM_Lang_0409
DRM0409.dll
OEMAPPS
Arail.amf
ding.amr
taskserstart.exe
transport.exe
different camera file sizes
CannedText_0409.bin

Engine.Dll
FlashLiteDll.dll
getMMSCtxMenuInfo.dll
getMMSCtxMenuInfo.dll.0409.mui
HTCDrmAPI.dll
HTCFlashLiteDll.dll
HTCFSrc.dll
HTCICON.dll
ImageDLL.dll
impie.dll
internal.config
mm1lib.dll
all the mms files including the provxml
mxip_tmus_ppc_cert.provxml
phcanOverbmp.dll
svgplayback.dll
system.config
taskserStart.exe
transport.exe
VerInfou.dll
OemDrivers
PLAYSND.dll
StartupAnimationEngine.dll
TIInit_3_4_27.bts
I know I gotta finish cleaning my ROM... but I'm so focused on getting that flashing limiter taken off...
all right, i have the camera working now because i download the camera build for the hermes, but since it's not the same, everything is distorted and out of place. all i need to do is fix that up and i think i should be able to release this rom.
Where did you find the camera build? I am having the same problem. I have tried two different ROMs, but I think it may be related to JasJam Vs. Hermes. I have the JasJam and the camera app doesn't even pretend to start.
it's all right!!! i got everything fixed! i'm pretty much going to release it now and hope all turns out well!
@ prostar. you need the reg files for the camera. the reason why it wasn't working for me was because i didn't have them. I was able to do it by breaking down any herald ROM and extracting the specific reg files for the camera and BOOM! it worked like a charm...took me a while to figure it out. if you would like, pm me and i'll see what i can do to help you

No Camera Software

I have just bought an AT&T Tilt that has arrived without camera software and without HTC Home plug ins. The reseller has sent me the plug ins, which I have installed and that work fine. As to the camera software, he has sent me this: "Nadavi_HTC_Camera_5_0_4_2915_00_NEW_HTC_FIX". I have installed it, but it does not work. So my phone has no camera function. From the looks of it, it seems to be a "FIX" for a software already installed. But unfortunately, my phone has no camera software AT ALL.
Therefore my question is: does anyone know if there is a site I can download this Nadavi camera software? In the alternative, can someone tell me how to make this "FIX" work?
Thank you. I appreciate your time

The camera button (Button 5) does not show any camera app. It originally showed "Pictures & Videos" and now it is mapped to HTCAlbum. There is no camera in the applications
see if there's a camera.exe in the \windows directory, if its there, create a shortcut for it and place it in the \windows\start menu\programs directory
Here is what I found:
in the \windows directory there is a "Camera" file of 733K. Unfortunately when I tap on it, nothing happens. I can see the Pocket PC center icon starting, but then it stops.
I then created a shortcut and placed it into the \start menu\programs directory, but again nothing happens.

Wait a minute: I found it! There is a "Camera.exe.0409" in the windows directory. So I copied the shortcut into the \start menu\programs directory.
NB: in the windows directory, when I click on the "Camera.exe.0409" I get a dialog box that reads: "There is no application associated with "Camera.exe.0409". Run the application first, then open this file from within the application".
hmm i'm not sure if u want but maybe u can flash a new rom and see how that goes for u...but then again i suggest u read all before flashing a rom if u do choose to go that route

Well, I spent almost an hour browsing the Kaiser FAQ's but couldn't find pretty much anything about this camera issue. Now the camera icon appears Programs, but when I tap it nothing happens.
Can anyone suggest how to associate the Nadavi app to the Camera.exe.0409? Maybe that works.

Look, you should have stopped a lot earlier. What ROM does that device have? Who sold it to you? And under what conditions? Is that supposed to be an official HTC TyTN II or AT&T Tilt? Press camera button and reset, check the SPL version.
The camera should be working on a new device, no need to install anything, and less a CAB taken from a forum.
Yo can also flash the new HardSPL 3.28 and then flash any ROM that works better than that one.
