Which ROM should I reflash with? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Hey, hows it going?
I'm pretty new to the whole wizard scene and am trying to get as much info as I can. I'm in the Netherlands and am about to buy an MDA Vario but they come with the Dutch ROM and I need the english version.
So my plan is to get it unlocked and then reflash the ROM. So my question is:
Which ROM would be the best to reflash my Vario with?;
1) K-JAM_WWE_1010903_106_10110_ship.exe
or
2) Qtek_9100_RUU_Prodigy_10107105_Qtek_WWE_ship.exe
I really just want the excess unneeded junk off the thing, like antivirus (and I plan on installing the extended ROM unlocker) and have it run as fast as possible. I'd like to keep skype etc, but I'm sure I can install that afterward. I also heard the Qtek ROM has some bluetooth issues? And I think I read that the K-Jam ROM is like 5 days older than that Qtek, not sure if there is a difference though. Which one would you recommend? I'll be using it with a T-Mobile SIM in The Netherlands. Thanks for any suggestions

O2 XDA Mini S - What is the best ROM for Push email

Hi All,
I have been reading the posts on this forum for the last 5 days and just need some advice.
Just got the Mini S and woudl like to know what ROM to upgrade to, various posts mention the QTEK or the IMATE and to be honest I am a little confused.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I need to use the lokiwiz program to unlock the SIM and CID before I attempt the upgrade ?
Thanks
Dan
You would also need to remap the keyboard as the O2 version has a different keysheet. The O2 build with push will be available within the next week or so.

I'm in a similar boat to the OP. Been watching the forums for a couple of weeks and am finally in a position to upgrade the ROM - still not sure to go QTEC or iMate....and now Lord Buckingham throws O2 back in the mix!!
@ Lord Buckingham - can you qualify where you have heard the news about the O2 ROM as all I have seen is pure speculation so far on these forums?
If any other Mini S owners can comment on the QTEC/iMate ROM argument that would also be a great help!
thanks.
I've just installed the Qtek 2.17 Rom on my mini, but now i'm having activesync problems. Not sure it's related, although I am tempted to try the Kjam 2.16 rom to see if it's any better. Will let you know when i've installed it...
Ady
I've been using the iMate 2.16.9.1 rom since it came out in feb, and it works fine for me. Dtharby, To answer your question you do need to use lokiwiz to unlock the SIM and CID before upgrading
After hacking around on my Laptop, I've resolved the activesync issue I was having, without going back to 2.16. So 2.17 seems stable, fast and bug free so far...
thanks guys. It's reassuring to hear there's some Mini S users in the UK that have has success with the new ROMs.
I think I'll try flashing tonight....maybe going to go for QTEC (just cause it came out later!!)
One last thing - is it actually possible to roll back to the shipping O2 ROM from these new 2.x ROMs?
cheers!

Qtek 9100

Help, I have Qtek 9100 on the O2 network in England, it doesn't have all the O2 customisations so I'm thinking it is a basic Qtek ROM. At the moment it is running the 1.1.7.5. ROM. I'm looking to upgrade the ROM, the 2.1.7 seems to be the best. But despite reading through the forum I have some questions.
1 - Does the Qtek 9100 need CID unlocking? I've read that if I install the Qtek 2.1.7 upgrade I won't need to CID unlock the phone.
2 - Is the latest ROM shown on the Qtek site the 2.1.7. version?. I have tried to log on to that site but its says it does support the IMEI I've entered.
3 - What is Cingular?
4 - Could some one post the link to the 2.1.7 Rom English upgrade?, I've found a step by step guide to upgrading and loads of links to different ROM's But want to be sure that I've got the link to the right one.
5 - Is it worthwhile carrying out the upgrade, and how likely am I to bust my phone?
Thanks in advance for the advice, In short all I want the best upgrade with the least amount of hassle to upgrade.
Hi,
If you stick with the Qtek rom, you dont need to CID unlock...but it is worth doing for future use...as you can not CID unlock a v2 ROM....yet.
Cingular is a US phone company...like O2, T-Mob etc.
If you follow the instructions, you should be ok, i have done a couple, and touch wood have all been ok.
I think you need a ROM from this lot:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Roms/Qtek/
but I dont know which one is the newest...most stable etc.
GOOD LUCK
I'm in a similar situation here, I've currently got the O2 Supplied 2.21.4.1 WWE ROM, most people here seem to be upgrading to other ROM's such as those supplied by QTEK... looking at the Wizard ROMS on the FTP, which one should I be upgrading to? And what are the 'prophet' ROM's on there?
think I've got it it sorted now, shouldn't need to CID unlock if I use the Qtek 2.1.7 release. Not sure I need any other companies Roms unless someone is going to tell me they have some features I can't live with out ?

MDA Rom on 8125?

i bought a Cingular 8125.. i should be receiving it tomorrow .. i would like to know..if i can load the latest official Tmobile MDA Rom since i like the Setup and i will be using it with Tmobile anyways.. i dont wanna brick my phone.. and i just finished coming from a Smartphone (Nextel i930) i would really like to use the MDA Rom on my 8125.. let me know if its possible.
It's possible if your phone is CID-unlocked. If you have a G3 device, CID-unlocking would be an easy thing to do (check the first sticky).
I've had the mda rom on my 8125 twice. didn't like it tho. ended up with a custom rom and my own cooked rom wit tmobile mms and data settings. ill post it later for you. make sure you buy a 128mb mini sd and do lots of reading. always ask questions. no question is too dumb.

Thanks

Works very well for me. No bug at all. I'm happy with it.

I've upgraded my P3600 to WM6 (Australian ROM)
GPS - First detection is slow IMHO. After that it runs great.
Changes in speed - No changes so far I have noticed, in other words it still runs fast
Battery life - Is great depending on your usage. Just disable your infrared. That alone makes a lot of difference.
Where did you get the image ROM?
What is the difference between DOPOD and HTC Australian ROM?
Thanks

Does it matter where I got it from?.. Or do you want to know where you can get it?..
http://rapidshare.com/files/42337174/D810_ANZ_WM6_Upgrade_20070709.zip
I do not know what and if there is a difference is between DOPOD and HTC Australian ROM.
I just know that the ROM I used didn't have customized DOPOD screenlogo's/programs etc installed AND that I have only one issue since running this ROM but I think it's WM6 related:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=318013
All the OFFICIAL ROMs providing wm6 for trinity, so far, are from Dopod, including the rapidshare link above.
This is why it's called: 'D810' and not HTC P3600 in the link.
You may notice very few Dopod's customization, but it's still a ROM from Dopod, you can see, for instance, some Dopod's ringtones in the alarms and ring lists.
As far as the localized operator settings are concerned, I can't tell, since I did not install their extended ROM, I don't have any either, except for the ring tones I just mentioned before.
Regarding the new ROM performances, I think it has increased a lot from the previous April wm5 release from HTC: faster, better look etc.
The GPS is a little bit faster, but not much faster, but I think it has more to do with the new radio.
For example I could not get any fix with the 1.46.00.01 one from SEA. But it works quite well with the 1.46.20.01, from ANZ.
The most impressive improvement is the wifi connexion, which is stable, and fast. (it was a disaster with previous radios, especially the 1.38.x series.
Just to make myself more clear:
1)
I know all the trinity ROMs are made by HTC. What I meant is not 'made by Dopod' but, branded, designed for Dopod.
2)
I have read here before that wifi has nothing to do with radio but just with the ROM itself. I don't know, but what I can tell is that, the previous wm5 plus 1.38/1.41 radio series had always given me poor wifi performance.
But wm6 with 1.46. series is perfect in terms of wifi perfs.
At last do you think that flashing with an official ROM (Asian or Australian doesn't matter) i will not have any king of strange problem like with the wm6 coocked roms?
I want wm6 but i want all the features work on the device too.
Thanks for your patience, but i'm going to buy my HTC p3600 nad i will do only if i can have a perfectly working WM6 device with working GPS.
Thanks

Since there are no garantees there is a choice to be made. The P3600 is still unique in his features. It's the ONLY Window Mobile based PDA with 3G enabled and GPS onboard.
And what you do want to consider is that even if HTC releases a WM6 for Europe, there are no garantees that the ROM won't have any flauds.
Exactly, there is never 100% garantee to be fully satisfied and get no default or bug. This is why the reseller is there to offer you a one year garantee, so if you fancy the specs of the device go for it.
I don't want to start any debate about which programmers have more skills and more time to do proper job.
Individual ROM cooks are amazing and none of us will ever reach their skill levels, and they do it for free, just for the pleasure of sharing with us, so we owe them the greatest respect for that.
But obviously , after having tried both, I confirm that there are less conflicts and bugs in the official ROM than in the cooked ones.
Also because they take more risks by adapting applications that where not designed for the device (ex: touchflo and kaiser interfaces in trinity)
But I do believe that new cooked ROM from now on will be far more reliable than they were in before (wm6 ones), mainly because they now have a stable basis (the official dopod release) to make their own developments on.
So the difference might be slighter and slighter in those respects.
Explicit instructions for a dummy
Does this ROM update go as easy as the GPS unlock update?
I've done ROM updates that made you go through several activities and I just screw them up.
I'm looking for the simple version.
Jerry
Tried this and no luck
I have an HTC branded and unlocked P3600
I got this error:
Error 294 - Invalid Vendor ID
This update utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone.
Ideas?
No, it is not as easy as the GPS update ROM, and cannot be compare as you just experienced it because:
- it's not a HTC release, it's a DOPOD release, aiming at Dopod D810 clients, from South-east Asia and Australia-New-zealand.
- the ROM is heavy protected by its SPL to not install onto other CID devices.
- The previous Hard-spl crack doesn't work anymore and if you try to install it: luckily u'll get an error it will refuse to install, unluckily, it will get stuck in the middle of the install and you might even brick your device.
That's why you could not manage to install it. There are plenty of topics over this issue on this forum, you can try one of those workarounds, but take all responsibility if something unlucky happens during the upgrade process.
By the way: SIM unlocked, doesn't mean CID unlock, you can install any SIM card you want from any provider, but your phone's CID still belong to a language, a geographical area, and a manufacturer, which is HTC, not DOPOD ;-)
Come on guys...
read and use your brain..!!
Use this SPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293632
and flash this rom. works for me like a charme. I've an normal HTC P3600 German Version - no special unlock.

no chance without spl bla bla stuff?
i just want to excute and install :-(
that is it..
read the link I gave you. it is very simple.
copy this file to your pocketpc and execute it! works in 10seconds..
I clearly should do more reading before attempting this
Well, from you link, i can see that the boot unlocker works but i can't get back to my device because it's stuck in a boot loader rainbow screen.
How do i get it back to the OS?
I told you so...
1)
Don't think it's easy and simple, every one got different skills and experience and you don't help the noobies by saying "flashing a SPL protected ROM is 'easy and simple, just use your brain'...
Better being warned of the worst, if you want to do your best...
2)
There is a sticky thread in this forum about 'how to unbrick or unstuck you phone after having failed to flash the Dopod's ROM.
Read it CAREFULLY and try it out.
3)
Next time you try, use Olibro SPL or, more simple and safe for beginners, try to flash a ROM without SPL/IPL.

can you give more info on where you're stuck? (what is shown on bootloader screen). i'm assuming you've tried a soft reset to exit bootloader...
it's not that hard to flash a rom, the official dopod wm6 included. follow the guide here which will allow you to flash it without the new spl. it's still recommended to flash hard spl before a ROM flash to be safe.

Questions regarding Flashing/Dumping ROM on MDA Compact V

Hi, been looking through the various sections of ROM development forum, and have a couple of questions. I am new to this Windows based phones.
1) When I dump the ROM, does this Backup the ROM, radio and Protocol, or do you have to do them individually? Basically can I put the MDA Compact V back into its complete original state if I dont like the new ROMS?
2) Has anyone tried Flashing the Compact V, if so, any improvements?
Hoping some of you experts can help out a noob!
2) You need HARDSPL installed. Then you can flash any topaz rom on it. Trust me, you don't want to go back to the t-mobile rom.
Let us know how you get on, i'm thinking of doing the same thing
I dumped my rom from the mda compact v but I havent put it back together as nbh yet. Downloading the topaz kitchen to do so.
It is always a good idea to dump your rom before flashing a new one. If your phone develops a fault t-mobile will not accept responsibility if there is a custom rom on there and they will likely tell you that your warranty has been invalidated. Although the t-mobile rom is awful is always good to have it backup up just in case of the worst.
Saying that I didnt backup the radio though and I updated that to the latest last week
EDIT: To answer the question yes there are improvements with running custom roms. I have not moved to 6.5 yet as I have a heavily customised uDK 6.1 rom and cannot be bothered to move to 6.5 and do all the customisations again. There 6.5 rom appear to be slightly buggier from what I read but it does have its advantages over 6.1.
Backup the t-mobile rom and move to the custom roms just make sure you follow the instructions carefully
Thanks for the replys.
Pauloke: I have backed up the ROM (parts.raw) and I have also got the kitchen, but I really have no idea what I'm doing. Worst case, I have a copy anyway. The kitchen instructions get quite techy very quickly and they soon lose me. Is there any way of getting a copy of the shipped ROM online?
Cheers

One way is to check the website of your provider. Sometimes you find the ROM (as an update) there.
Another way is to check the WIKI TOPAZ cooked ROMs page. By chance you find your ROM there.
Ohh man i must be rly stupid, why i cant figure out how the @#% i can dump my rom :S This dumprom tool is supposed to extract an already backed up rom right? i'm really confused :/
