SD card as ram? - Beetles

I thought before when I bought my 6515f that it said one of the SD slots (can't remember which one) could be used as (RAM/NV) memory?
is this right & how?
also will this device take advantage of high speed SD cards? 66/133x+ ?

No men that can be done
the only way to max the rom memort is sending to service (external of hp) they can upgrade from 64 to 128 _MB cost aprox 130 EUR
enjoy it!!!
***nEuEzIeL***

One other way to have more memory is to use the external rom.
You can win few Mo here, because a lot of things here are not useful ( Hp how to do etc, tomtom base, etc...).
For this or you flash the extrom with a existing one like bigrom file.
Or you customise it, nut it's a little bit more difficult.

SD Card low level format

Hi there,
this is not really a XDA topic, but since I think here is the most knowlegde empowered crowd around I may as well ask: (I just cooked a 2003 rom in Jeffs kitchen and just have to say it rocks!!!! :!: )
Here's the problem:
I have two SanDisk 256 MB SD cards. One is without any problems (sofar), but onto the other I can only copy about 100 MB Data (no matter if I do it taking pictures, or copying from WinXP or through the SD Slot of the XDA).
So I tried formatting the card in the following ways:
- By the camera (Pentax Optio 550)
- By the XDA (Storagetools.exe, the OS by simply inserting the card)
- By PhotoResco (which could actually read the card and report the :? problem but has no formatting option - at least not in the demo version)
- By CompuApps OnBelay SD recovery tool :x
- By WinXP
They all stop or report a problem at 37% formatting.
I know this is a known problem of SanDisk cards over 256 MB size, but
since it's known I can't believe there is no solution!!! :?:
Doesn't anyone have some kind of a low level formatting tool for SD cards or at least a ZeroWrite kind of thing...
Help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanx in advance and keep up your incredible work!

micro SD smaller than before- ??

hi guys I got weird problem- my micro SD card is, or should I rather say was, 4GB. after some ROM installing I observed that its not a 4gb anymore, but 2gb. and its not about collecting trash, its just maximal capacity. Can some1 tell me what to do?
1. I dont have memory card reader in PC so dont ask me do to that okay?
2. should I do sth before installing new rom? of course HardSPL is done. But between installing 2 different roms? I used to copy the installation file Kovsimg.nbh on card and did standard prodecure- switch off the phone etc but I guess its a mistake isnt it?
thanks in advance

keep the card in your phone and connect to pc with usb cable in card reader mode.
Format card.
If still dont work you got a fake/pirate micro sd
How did you format it ?
On the official SD Association web site http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter/ there is the following statement:
"SD or SDHC memory card file systems formatted with generic operating system formatting software do not comply with official SD memory card requirements and optimum performance may not be experienced."
The site also provide an SD card formatter program, fully compliant with SD Association specifications, but, unfortunately for you, it runs only on PC, so you need a card reader.
I had the same problem some time ago, with a 2GB full size SD formatted with my iPaq and recognized as 1GB, this tool fixed it.
If you connect your device to PC as a card reader, as stated above, it should work.
Go to Settings / Connections / USB to PC and choose Disk Drive. At least, my Xperia, and many HTC have this control panel.

New internal SD, not as fast as I thought

So I bought a Patriot Class 10 4GB microsd and replaced my the internal sd in my Streak and it all restarted fine and I tried quadrant but I got around the same score as I did with the old one, 1600ish at 1ghz. What is everyone else getting on 1.9 without perfmod and either with stock internal sd or non stock.
My results were
1586
CPU: 5150
Memory: 1154
I/O: 937 (Important one I want to compare)
2D: 301
3D: 388
Cheers
Well I have never run StreakDroid without the perfmod long enough to write all that down, but with the perfmod and SetCPU set at 1190 these are my scores:
Total 2128
CPU 5357
Memory 1119
I/O 3483
2D 307
3D 375
Do you feel a difference by replacing the internal sd?

Just in case: I did the sd mod with the 8GB Patriot class10 microSD and it works fine too. No need to modify any file, system will be prepared and installed on it on first boot and you get 6.someting Megs left for programs after boot. Never tested for quadrant scores but I guess they must be about the same as yours.
give "SD Booster" a try, otherwise the access speeds are set inside the unit. being an C10, you can get away with 8192, even if the app says it's too much.
you can use "SD Tools" to gain a better insight into how much of an improvement the new SD card settings will give.
both are free.

you can only do that with a 4Gb card, anymore than that and you have to do some partitioning to the card so the rest of the space will be available, some reading and research would have told you that

That is incorrect. I replaced my internal SD Card with an 8 GB card and the phone formatted it fine. The extra steps and system files mods are only needed if you want to use the space as user space and not as system space. Some reading and research would have told you that.

You should partition your sdcard through CWM. After that, you have to move apps to sdcard.
Also, make sure you have higher class sd card, otherwise it may lag.
U can also use link 2 SD app to link apps to SD
Yo can also create partition using mini tool partition wizard...
Or u can also use s2e on custom rom..

WOW. So Galaxy mini supports 32GB sd cards?
I went to a store and asked for a 8GB sd card but they said that the phone doesnt support it and it will not work. Maximum was 4GB they said.
Damn, I should go and buy a 8GB sd card. But why would you need a 32GB SDCard for Galaxy Mini. It will make your phone so laggy and it will take years to 'Media Scan" to complete.
Cheers anyways.

S5 SD Swap/ mount Question

Hi
I have just jumped from iPhone to Samsung S5 and was wondering if there is a simple way to swap the internal memory with an external SD card? I have an android gaming tablet with a custom rom which does this automatically, making the OS install, download and do everything onto the external card.
I saw a post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377628 which talks about modding a system file will that do what i want? currently after installing TomTom and several map packs i now only have a few GB left of 16
Ps.. I have done the SDFix already to enable writing to the SD but TomTom requires the maps to be in the Root folder so you cant " move to SD " it only moves the program. I have S5 with KitKat 4.4.2 i believe.
Anyhelp apreciated.
82 views and no reply, is it because it can no longer be done?
I'm by no means an expert, but KitKat has severely limited this capability, apparently.
I'm betting that you would need a custom boot-loader in order to fully host the OS form the SD card.
Depending upon which specific S5 variant you have you'll have different options to mitigate this. Some of the big USA carriers (notably AT&T) are shipping with locked boot-loaders, which prevents fully customizing the ROM / OS load. From what I gather, but have not attempted, not even SafeStrap is currently capable of retargeting the system to the SD card.
Depending on the app, you may be able to (on a rooted phone) make a soft-link on the filesystem and redirect that application's data to the SD card. I'd think that the more safe way to go, but again I have not tried it.
Keep in mind, also, that hosting the OS from the SD card would likely impact performance heavily. In my testing the internal flash memory has at least 2x to 3x the performance of the fastest microSD I could find to test with, and more like 10x the speed of a cheap SD card (my phone is the US AT&T variant). This has huge ramifications for much-accessed / randomly-accessed content, and by derivation probably impacts how well the phone feels in operation.
I see, i thought it would be easy like my gaming tablet, the 'system' still runs on the devices internal memory but the 'storage' runs from the SDCard.
My phone is a UK/ EU model and is not locked to any provider as bought outright. Is it possible to flash it with a stock rom that does allow the swapping of the SD, one slightly older than 4.4.2 which it is currently on?
I filled up the small 16gb within 2 hours of having the phone so having external memory is a must really. TomTom is taking up alot of the room and i dont think you can move the DATA to the SD card as it reads from root of device.
any help appreciated.
Any update in this?
