Helmi CF2 by baniaczek vs R4 - xplode - Wich is the best Rom now? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Comparison between Helmi_BA_WM2k5_AKU3.5_v1.4.CF2 by baniaczek and BA WM5 AKU3.5 R4 - xplode.
I would want to upgrade my Blue Angel. which of the two it is the best one? I would want to have stability with Bluetooth and WiFi to use with GPS e surf in the web. You excuse me for my bad English…

Don't compare them now. Wait two days - wait for bug fix release.
Today - use xplode.

try both
for u to find out.

Now I see another upgrade: R4 Lazy Release

xplode R5 seems on the way too!

Hmm Banizczek, I knew bug_fix release coming in 2 days, I can't wait to see what else is fixed/enhanced.
Your hard work is VERY appreciated.
Hopefully the BA_Goodies will be included in it (psShutXP, Softkey, RunningPrograms, TaskMgr) + Mail_Fix + SmartDial.

You have convinced to me, you could say the procedure to me of installation of the Rom Xplode R4? I have read that I must set up something on the telephone operator

there is nor R5 on the way, i am still seeking ways to include .NET CF 2 SP2 inside but have no space left, it will be easy for baniaczek to include it because he already has .NET CF 2 SP1
and i think that there is no best WM5 rom, because they all are hacked to work on BA, they are not created specially for the device, thats why there are some known bugs which can not be fixed
afterall baniaczek edition of helmi's rom looks really promissing, so wait for the next release
about my roms, the lazy release does not need setting operator, so the upgrade procedure will be exactly the same as in any other wm5 rom
also i will post a kitchen to my R4 rom, but now i am configuring it, it is based on the newest Bepe's rom kitchen for Hermes (but of course it will be for BA) and it is a lot more easyer to build with it, you can choose which components you want and customize your roms better. For example you can create rom without office apps, or media player, or without any software which is included by default. But i am still working on it.

What about selective UPXing of dlls and exes? Yeah, some UPXed stuff might render it not working, it is a tedious process of UPXing stuff one by one, putting it on the ROM and then, if it works, flash a rom with them.
Have you UPXed everything possible in the R4 ROM?

could I user this kitchen to get rid of camera support?

A lot of things are already UPXed (in helmi's ROM, xplode's ROM - probably too).
And there is still not enough room. In my ROM, for example - about 20 free sector, 512 byte each. UPX is not revolution itself - IMGFS files are compressed gives some compression itself, so UPXing small files gives no impact results.
net.cf dll's are very large, but cann't be UPXed - the are signed, so UPX skips signed files.
It is very hard to save even 1MB of ROM. For that reason I've decide to remove some things (MSN, transcriber) from ROM.

OKAY

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=287223
i believe u dnt have to set that operator anymore..
Upgrade procedure:
1.Extract the rar somwhere in your computer
2.Open the folder in which the files were extracted
3.Copy EXTROM folder to your SD card (you may want to edit it but ... i wont include this into the instructions)
4.Put your device in Bootloader mode and place it to cradle
5.Start MAupgradeUT_NOID.exe and follow the onscreen procedure
6.Perform WM5 Hard Reset

Personally, I have no use for powerpoint mobile. Actually I have never read a single Office document in my BA. all 3 apps could go EXTROM IMO. but maybe Word and excel are used by some, maybe they need to stay. Powerpoint mobile is the biggest of teh 3 exes I believe, at least this one could go EXTROM.
gdiplus.dll is not upxed, I copied it to my windows machine and it compresed to 36.78 original size. Sure, the space savings is not as big on IMGFS, but still...
some time ago I tried compressing some files, I believe gwes.exe is compressible too, and it's big. maybe you could check if it's already upxed...

I agree with BJ. All these 3 apps can go to EXTROM, eventhough I still use word and excel rarely though.
What about calculator? I believe most people would install a better version calculator. i know calculator program doesnt eat up a lot of ram, but it is still something...
And, just out of curiosity, what are the most used input method? I always use Block Recognizer. i believe people would only use 1 fav, however maybe Keyboard has to be left out as it is - just in case your friend/partner want to borrow ur phone for a quick sms or something, and they dont know how to use block/letter recognizer. Maybe it is a good idea to have block recognizer & letter recognizer to be excluded as EXTROM, just like what Baniaczek has done with Transcriber (This is very neat since it improves the time to change input method).
Btw, any news on bluetooth random wakeup issue?
Cheers

New Rom 1.40 on FTP (Baked 1.40.110 & Radio 1.12)

I recently discovered that there is now a file in the Uploads/Blueangel/ directory of the xda-developers FTP named BA_1.40_radio_1.20_untested_extrom.rar
The file (and the contents extracted) can now be found here:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_Updates/BA_1.40_radio_1.20_untested_extrom
(EDIT MDAIIIUser: Moved file and corrected link)
This is a Generic 1.40 Rom with cabs from 1.40.110 Extended Rom.
I would like to thank whoever put this file up.
Note that the extrom folder in the archive contains some cabs that would not be included in a standard extended rom (eg SPB GPRS Monitor, the Extended Rom unlocker, etc), as well as some updated HTC cabs, so it is a requirement to cook your Extended rom yourself.
The cabs not natively a part of the 1.40.110 Extended Rom are:
AudioPatch_Media.CAB
CprogHook.WM2003_2577.CAB
dsp_en.cab
GPRSMonitor_2.20_WWE_BA_20041011.sa.CAB
TotalCmd.arm.CAB
xda-developers_Unlocker.CAB
Examples of HTC Extended Rom Upgrades found in this archive:
Old Album: 2.51 Build 16894
New Album: 2.51 Build 18454
Old 1.20 Photo Contacts: 1.20 Build 17957
New Photo Contacts: 1.20 Build 19167
The new Album now opens Photo Contacts 1.20 with the assign to contact command, where it previously did not.
The radio rom included in the archive is 1.12, it seems to be MDAIIIUser's 1.12 Type I Radio Rom.
The 1.40 nk.nbf is seemingly Type I: it will work with the old xda3nbftool.
This rom has Windows Media Player 10, and it seems to be a bit better on the battery. Mamaich (in a post below) has already found some issues, however. (Typical)
UPDATE:
The MMS cab file (CAB-ArcsoftMMS-20022-Magician-Generic-ENU-08Mar05.cab) included in this update causes the hardware phone end button to lock up many people's blue angels during a call. It is highly recommended that you do not use this new cab, and install the older version instead, accessable here:
ftp://xda:[email protected] Media Messaging/MMS_2.0.0.16_BA_1123.CAB
Just flashed the NK.NBF (CE ROM) portion on my PDA2k.
Boots up fine as 1.40.00 WWE on diagnostics screen.
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition, version 4.21.1088 (Build 15045.2.6.0).
Device Information page shows:
ROM version: 1.40.00 WWE
ROM date: 03/10/05
Windows Media Player 10.0 build 15045.
Camera applet integrated in ROM, version 2.21 (build 19307)
Broadcom Bluetooth 1.0.0 build 3900, same versions across all Bluetooth files.
Single "G" icon.
All seems well.
Now, I'm going to piece back the Extended ROM with my customizations and get it going.
This ROM has several minor problems. For example ringer.wma sounds ugly, backlight is maximal after you leave camera app, but it seems that this ROM drains battery a bit less then previous versions, even with 1.12 radio ROM.
To fix camera you can replace camera.exe with a version taken from old ROM, I use EXE from 1.31
And this ROM supports 2 different camera chips: ADCM2650 (old, my device has it) and OV7660. So maybe it is designed for new BAs with an improved camera. Though both chips are limited at 640x480.
Album_BlueAngelAKU26_Generic_WWE_RC20.CAB, Album application
AudioPatch_Media.CAB, changes audio priority to 80
BA_OEM_PA_Remove_WiFi_Logo.sa.CAB, remove extraneous Wi-Fi logo from top status bar
BA_Version_140.CAB, embeds version number for Device Information applet
Broadcom-Corporation-BT-PPC-AV-Upgrade.cab, apparently upgrades Bluetooth stack
Button9.CAB, programs extra button on slide-out keyboard
CAB-ArcsoftMMS-20022-Magician-Generic-ENU-08Mar05.cab, MMS add-on for Messaging applet
Caller_ID_BlueAngelAKU26_Generic_WWE_RC20.CAB, IA Caller ID
CprogHook.WM2003_2577.CAB, related to Phone applet (?)
CV2.41.386_wwe.CAB, ClearVue PowerPoint and PDF Viewer
Default_JMM101257_WWE_1004.CAB, Java Midlet Manager
dsp_en.cab, "Bass & Trable [sic]" (?) (likely customized)
GPRSMonitor_2.20_WWE_BA_20041011.sa.CAB, GPRS monitor
KSE_Fax_v2.09_BA_WWE_0720_unremovable.CAB, KSE Fax for CSD
MIDI561.sa.CAB, MIDI ringtone support
SetDefaultSMS.CAB, default to SMS in Inbox
TotalCmd.arm.CAB, Total Commander (likely customized)
VideoMMSB12_BA.sa.CAB, Video MMS applet
xda-developers_Unlocker.CAB, Extended ROM tools (likely customized)
So what improvements is this rom supposed to have?
(I've installed it now)
mamaich, how can you tell what camera chip a BA has?
Broadcom-Corporation-BT-PPC-AV-Upgrade.cab - adds HID and high quality audio BT profiles
CprogHook.WM2003_2577.CAB - my program, adds "contacts" button to dialer, it is not the latest build
dsp_en.cab - adds "bass&treble" customization, it works on BA and Magician devices
I don't know what are the improvements in this ROM, except that it should be more stable (because it has a newer kernel build with MS patches integrated), it has a built-in 3900 BT, so you don't need to install it and lose about 1Mb of storage space, has WMP10, and this ROM is produced by HTC (or MS) and not created from other ROMs parts like I did with 1.33.51 ROM.
I have not tested the sound quality over BT headset, maybe it is improved.

could someone be kind enough to advise
I have tried to read through pages and pages of threads to sort out my problem....
I have been helping pass on the knowledge I have learned from you guys to others when I see them ask... and understand how it must frustrate when people ask already answered questions..
BUT.. I cannot find the answers and I am sure the answer will help many people....
I have downloaded this ROM and would dearly like to use it. I have however a number of questions if I may..:
1) I like what I see in the extended rom on this download can I just use it.. if so how and can you see any problems?
2) I cannot seem to use the rom as it sais wrong country error. I have read may threads and have downloaded xda3nbftool as described by them but cant seem to understand how to fix the file for my country code.. I have the information and this is as follows.....
Model = Ph20B
Minor version =OB
Language code = WWE
Minor = R
Operator code = O2_001
Rom version =1.31.00
Minor = 00
Extended Rom version = 1.31.139 WWE
Radio version = 1.12.00
Please help guys I am sure there will be many people struggling as I am.
thanks in advance
Stay happy
Magpie2000k
magpie2000k, I do not recommend using the current extended rom. Some of the cabs are retail software, and unless you are willing to pay for them, you will be installing time-expiring trials. One of the included cabs is even corrupted. That doesn't even take into account that carrier customization is missing, among other things. I would recommend taking the time to understand how to cook your rom properly and then make your own rom using some of the cabs included so that it properly fits your needs.
As for installing the CE Rom upgrade, I can be of help to you for that. First, since you already have the 1.12 Rom installed, remove the radio_.nbf file that is included in the archive, so that it doesn't unnecessarily upgrade again.
OK, now extract the attached rar file and put them in the same folder as the upgrade, then run fix.bat. Then run BAUpgradeUT.exe and voila.
One again, however, I stress that you should cook your rom before doing this.
Thanks
You are a star.. I take it using the fix bat you created for me the change from my details.... very kind of you..
I have tried to cook the rom. have read and thought I understood all of what was on wiki I have read every page, but when I do what I think it sais it doesnt work.. for instance I want to put the Audio patch enclosed in the supplied extended rom and it doesnt happen when I try and change the config text file it wont save it.. I have unlocked extended rom etc etc etc..
I feel that when I eventualy learn I will write a very very simple version of how to do it and put it up as reference to all...
If you can help in any way on that I would greatly appreciate it..
To all that dont know THE LASTONE is a star
stay happy
Once again thanks

The ugly sound of ringer.wma is caused by the new album application. I tried installing another Album version (older) and the sound of ringer.wma is different! So, maybe they think that this sound as we hear it is more beautiful????
Funny that the Album messes with .wma files...strange, but funny.
But oh well, we all know how funny the BA can behave sometimes...
Jep, I really don't get it right, but it seems to do with any of the dll's installed. Something about that, but why??? Eat me.....
By the way, Happygoat and others. Today I talked to the dealer right here in the Netherlands and the told me they would send me the upgrade on CD to me tomorrow or monday. They confirmed that the version was
ROM1.40
Radio1.12
Ext ROM 1.40.110
Hope I will receive it soon!
That's good. I guess we can use it to ensure we have all the proper extended rom stuff.
Thanks, j_metselaars.
As allready mentioned, there are some minor probs with a few applications in this Extended_ROM.
The most annoying bug is the camera. When used, it sets to the highest brightness, and doesn't set back to your default brightness after use. I cooked the FixCamera_18157.sa into my Extended_ROM, it sets the camera-app back to the build 2.21B18157 from the 1.33.51-Mamaich-ROM, but it works allright.
Remember, when cooking, that the CprogHook.WM2003_2577.CAB (by Mamaich) and the AudioPatch_Media.CAB will need you to tap away the "This was build for a previous ...". Don't disable your touchscreen in the case you will be using one of these programs (= don't execute the "EXEC:\Extended_ROM\TPDisable.exe" in your 'Config.txt' hidden in your Extended_ROM).

New Rom on the FTP from Ivan ( Ivan v4 R3)

Hello
There is a new Rom from me on the FTP .
I know I said there will be no further Roms made by me, but ThExSenator said there is a working solution for the MS BT Stack disconnect whilst suspended issue.
It is integrated into this release. As a result the Widcomm Stack has been removed from the Rom.
This release is based upon Ivan v4 R2_new.
If you have questions please ask them.
Download Link:
Edited the Download Link as someone emptyed the FTP again and i had to reupload it
EDIT MDAIIIUser
Ivan asked me to move this rom to a safe place, it can be found here.
ftp://xda:[email protected]_Updates/WM5_IVAN_V4_R3/WM2k5_v4_R3.rar
Ramdisk support how?
Hey Ivan,
Thx, for the brilliant rom ! Is it possible to have somehow ramdisk support under your rom? If you install any ramdisk under this rom, the (my) device freezes after startup...
Btw BT works perfectly after the fix is applied. Now we have plenty wm5 rom to choose from. My personal favorite is Ivan's rom
Thx for your hard work!
exsenator, is RAMDISK avaliable in this ROM? also, does WMP works well(I am currnetly using latest logout ROM and and MP3s in wmp shutters in the beginning).
Also, does the wifi works flawlessly?

u may check Internet Explorer mobile and latest opera 8.6 mobile.
WMP is very important for me
BTW, ramdisk is a lot faster than ext-ROM
also, remember, ext-ROM has limited write operations(i read this on MSDN blog), so, one is more safer with the RAM disk for IE cache, WMP cache, netfront cache(can be moved to ram-disk using tweaks2k.net)
also, the browsing experience would be axiomatically be faster as it takes less time to write on the ram than on NAND based ROM

Well well... Didnt experience anything which can be called fast about using ramdisk... I dont really care about the write operations, as soon as i will reach that amount of number i will throw the pda away i think. IE is nearly unusable under every WM5 compared to W2k3SE.
Lets wait, what Ivan can say about the ramdisk thing, 'coz none of the released ramdisk cabs seem to work.
@Ivan
You rom has been the best rom out there! It is a clean version of Microsoft Mobile 2005. I have kept using your software due to the fact that there is not bulky additions in it.
The version you mentioned you were basing this latest rom with had an issue with Wi-Fi. Have you fixed that issue as well as the bluetooth issue in this new version?
@Ivan
Have you been able to get a cab file or build in the Tuma Device Lock. I found that the issue with the screen turning on and off with the bluetooth can be easily fixed with the Device Lock as seen in the Tuma Device.
Reason being that if the backlight turns on for any reason, the touch screen does NOT respond to clicks or presses on the screen. Once the timeout occurs, the screen will go back to turning off and conserving battery.
Now if this is something that is a flaw, perhaps it is something to look into for the future releases.
@Ivan Part 2
Also is this version have a working MSN bar for the today screen? I recall you released several versions different because the MSN bar wasn't working.

Have you been able to get a cab file or build in the Tuma Device Lock. I found that the issue with the screen turning on and off with the bluetooth can be easily fixed with the Device Lock as seen in the Tuma Device.

AFAIK Ivan and his 'crew' have looked into this and found that whereas the device lock (origionally from a Wizard Device) works fine TuMa in tuma, it fails to install/function on Ivans ROM, this has been attributed to the fact that unlike Ivan's releases TuMa is based upon a ported Wizard ROM, hense the Wizard device lock being compatable.
Basically it wont work without heavy patching and IMHO it's not worth it, there are many freeware and shareware alternatives you could invest in if needs be
Over and out
Hey Ivan,
thanks for your latest ROM. I appreciate your hard work. I do have a suggestion for your next rleease, please use latest ROM available. I think all you ROM is missing now is RAMDisk, Device Lock.

imatrix
thanks for your hard work, do you add the BT fix in this rom?? so i flash it now, you are the GREAT!!!
thanks Ivan - it is nice & faster ROM

As many times said... Devicelock is hard to implement, because of the build of WM5. As far as I understood, the Devicelock came with a newer release / build of WM5, this is why its hard to implement into Ivans rom, its an earlier windows build. (Is devicelock present in WM2k5_v4_R2_new.rar? Can't remember now...)
Yes its true, that all roms are missing ramdisk. This would be really nice.
As for the ms bt fix, personally I installed the cab of this fix right after the first boot.
Regarding Device Lock
As Midget_1990 said, it isn't possible because of the architecture of the Rom. It is not a Wizard port and as a result of that the Device Lock is not possible.
Regarding RamDisk
Unfortunately I can't test it as i do not have a blueangel to test this on. Other persons can find a solution hopefully.
Regarding the Wifi Issue and BT issue and MSN issue
The MSN issue was fixed one or two releases ago
The BT suspended issue should be fixed with this release
The Wifi issue has been fixed with this release
is WMP working ok?
Should work good like all previous versions.
that's a shame, Ivan, your rom is best out there man. too bad u dont have BA device anymore.
so i guess this may be your final rls?
one question, what kinda ROM is Tuma and Logout?
imatrix
i know one thing, if someone gets ramdisk on this, this will be the best rom. I ve already been a big fan of his previous releases

TuMa is a modified Wizard port and Logout's ROM is just TuMa without all the extras (stripped down version)

BA WM5 ROM Kitchen (Bepe's)
All of this Guide is taken from bepe's ROM Kitchen, and also the dev tool are taken from Bepe's, so all credits goes to Bepe for his great method and tools!, currently not All the file are linked except for my AKU3.2 OS + LOC & some OEM packet, since I dont hv permission yet from bepe, bepe is currently on vocation, but u can always go to bepe site here to get the old AKU files (OS, LOC, OEM):

ROM Kitchen is a tool to cook your personal Windows Mobile 2005 ROM by the packages you need.
.NET Framework v2.0 must be installed!
Device-dependent packages:

DEV_BA_v1.01+SAP.rar
ROM:
ROM_BA_v1_5.04.06_.rar - 32MB RAM
Independent packages: !!! Both should have the same AKU !!!
(Currently only my AKU3.2 Test Link Is available, I dont hv permission yet, since bepe still on vacation, check the above bepe's link for more info about Bepe AKU)
OS:
OS_AKU_2.0_v1.50.rar - AKU 2.0 (Build 14847)

Frequency Tuner v1.5
GB SOFT Tweak
IA Camera Oem
XCPUScalar
TaskMgr v1.6
more maybe will be added by others, lets work together guys...
How-To build a ROM:
Extract the DEV folder
Extract one ROM to DEV
Extract one OS to DEV
Extract one LOC to DEV
Extract all OEM Packages you need to OEM
Run CreateOS.exe and click the button
Run CreateROM.bat
Done, your new ROM is located at DEV/Temp/NK.nbf
How-To build ur own OEM Package:
An OEM Package is just a simple folder containing files and registry settings for the ROM
First of all you'll need a GUID number for your Package.
Go to http://kruithof.xs4all.nl/ uuid/uuidgen to get one.
In my case:
283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db
Necessary steps:
1. Create a new folder:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/
2. Create a empty text file:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db.dsm
(CreateOS.exe will finish this file for you)
If needed:
3. Create an UNICODE text file:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db.rgu
This file could be used to add registry entries to the ROM
First line is:
REGEDIT4
...
and there MUST be a empty line at the end!!
4. Create an UNICODE text file:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/initflashfiles.txt
This file could be used to create folders or copy files on the ROM.
Example: Open Dev/LOC/initflashfiles.dat using a text editor
Copy all files you need to Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/
First Big Thanks to MAMAICH for his great tools that makes this possible, and BEPE for this briliant method of buildin rom that make it really easy for everyone and also BIG Thanks to indra9110 for lot of help, thanks dra...really appreciate it bro...
This is still on test stage, so trust me, something might be wrong or anything, I'm really need an input on this method, since I'm not so familiar with bepe's briliant way, he'll do it better I supposed? hehe....
Midget_1990, xplode, Black6spdZ, thingonaspring, logout , tautara and others input and help will be a huge help for make it better.

Hi helmi, this is real good stuff.
What's the intention however? I quite like the current state of affairs with everyone focussing on one ROM. One ROM to rule them all etc.
Is the idea for people to start creating their own? I'd rather see everyone pull together to produce one fantastic BA WM5 ROM. We aren't all that far away from it just now. But if we start to fragment the effort, it'll slow things right down.
I made many packages for my Himalaya. It would be great to make some place on ftp to share them. This place shouln't be device specific (as I remember some of packages are uploaded into BA or Wizard section)
But better place would some wiki page, where people could write which package works on which hardware.
Also it's good idea to notice in package name which version of software it is, and if it's UPXed or not (I'm UPXing almost all packages gaining about 50% of space)
I have:
AKU 2.2+ Title Bar Clock
AutocompletePL
Call2Contact_1.0
CamRecSvc_by_ADX
Cambridge_bluetooth (Himalaya)
Compact_Framework_2
DKToday 1.80
DSP
DorucenkaSMS
ExtROMUnlock_UPX
File Support
FlightMode (Himalaya?)
GB-SOFT Tweak
MagicButton_2.0_UPX
NetCFVersion
O2_Operator_UPX
PQView
Regedit_PHM_0.70+TRE_0.90_UPX
Reset
SimMessaging 0.04
SoftKeyAppletEx
TaskMgr1.6
Tcpmp_0.72RC1_UPX
TodayAgenda
Toggle
Total Commander 2
TreoSpeedDial_UPX
VJVolubilis_0.41_UPX
WM2k5 SMS Alert Fix (Himalaya?)
WM5 NewMenu_1.0_UPX
WM5torage 1.7 (seems 1.5 is more stable)
XCPUScalar
idiffce_0.3_UPX
Personally i miss AEButton package but can't do it.
Some of them are unfinished (NET CF2 is the most important of them), some of them are untested because i'm still in process of converting new packages
And it would be nice to group packages by type, maybe place them in submenus

its still early stage, we need more people involved, but maybe with thingonaspring here (I believe he ready to put some nice stuff here), midget, blackspz, logout, tautara, xplode , everyone who willing to work as a team, for me its doesnt matter who build/make the rom, I believe we just want a ROM that we can use right? so working together on the fix / update issues would produce a "Best" or "less bug" rom, plus with ability to customizing it for personal use. well, at least that my intention. hopes we all can work together.

About ROM Kitchen and 'the One ROM'
The ROM Kitchen is a wonderful idea.
IMO, things should walk towards stabilizing a base ROM with all features working (including WModem ).
But we also shouldn't leave to the users the effort to create their own ROMs, that's too troublesome.
Maybe all devs could get closer together and agree on some tools to integrate to it, and call it the 'XDA ROM', instead of Bepe, Helmi, TuMa or whatever.
So, we could have a 'BASE ROM', meant to be used on the ROM Kitchen, and the XDA ROM supported by all devs, built from the BASE ROM with tools which were agreed to be useful, so the less geeky can have a nice working ROM to update their BAs with. With things like PHM regedit, ability to choose between BT stacks, GB Soft Tweak and other useful stuff.
That does not stop the devs from having their own name branded ROMs placed on the site...
Agreed, a base ROM system is the best of both worlds. Say I was to pickup a base ROM and build on it, is there anything I can do that can't be done using ExtROM installers? Sure, you get to put stuff in the ROM, but it's already stuffed full it would seem!
I remember reading about an anti-theft application that you could put in the ROM. If the phone number changed, it would start sending you text messages telling you about the current owner/thief. Is this an option for the BA once we get a kitchen?
I will test it tonight after work, , i will test my latest SAP package and maybe if it works OK i will post it in this thread
i still have to dump some devices roms to see what can i get from them, at this moment i have new versions of CommManager and WlanMgr and maybe fix for wifi integration, but first should test it...
Once again i want to thank everyone involved in WM5 development for BA
It will be a very long list .. so i will mention just a few names:
mamaich, bepe, helmi, logout, tuatara, Midget_1990 and many more
Right way to roll in UPXed system apps?
OK, I have just decompressed all files, but I have no OEM packages rolled int yet.
I have tested many UPXed system dlls and exes, and I would like to roll them in to save space, in place of the original ones.
Where do I put them?
Attempted to build a base rom from the files provided and i am getting an error after clicking on CreateOS. The error is "Error: OS\2849e391-1e39-4a98-87b9-53932dec51d3 is not listed in packages.sof". How do you add or remove packages listed in the sof file or is that possible? How can i remedy this error?
Thanks in advance
i have 3 errors for 3 folders in os folder, i just moved them into oem folder
more results soon
I had the 3 errors too, and moved the files to OEM. The ROM image was built (apparently) was successfully built.
BUT, the million dollar question is:
How much free space do we have without adding any OEM stuff at all (a BARE ROM)?
We need to know our KB budget to know how much we can roll in...
I have the same error. What did you move exactly?
OK i have it.
It's:
2849e391-1e39-4a98-87b9-53932dec51d3
e3055288-19cd-4317-9125-a63654628fb3
fb30fdba-23d9-4a92-af78-041b1ee1d46c
Move them from the OS directory to the OEM directory

When you get the error, move the folder with that name to OEM.
Another subject:
Hey all,
I have unpacked the ROM (nk.nba), replaced all folders ending with .exe and .dll with the actual file contained in each, and UPXed all exes and dlls.
Suspicious files are automatically skipped by UPX, and I compressed them with 'upx -i --compress-exports=0 --compress-resources=0 --strip-relocs=0', because when I was testing compressing (Office) with the default options, it didn't work. All compressible files worked, with these options.
The 'dump' contents went from 52,3 MB to 30,6 MB.
The catch: I don't know if the nk.nba generated from them will work
I haven't tried repacking it into an nba and flashing a ROM. Does anyone want to experiment with this file?
EDIT:
After BuildImgfs.exe finished, it reported the following:
Total Sectors: d2a8
Used Sectors : b984
Free Sectors : 1924
In decimal: 53928,47492,6436.
How big is a IMGFS sector? 512bytes? 1KB? more?
/EDIT
i did it with a few files
simply deleted them and created OEM package with UPXed versions
My Himalaya is flashing now AKU 3.2!
It flashed ok, hovewer entering BT settings hangs device
I will wait for Bepe
EDIT: BT stack is my fault cause by UPXing it
i create my rom ... very fast
but when i turn off my 9090 , it don't turn on ( display is balack)
any solution?

some are reporting/claiming some insane performance boosts (upto %1200) in that thread. did any of you test it ? if so did you experience any "real world" performance jumps
im interested in our cookers (itje, udk, agent47, fards, nrg....etc ) opinions on this
this too ("only" 500% here)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=499679
seems that many believe that the two solutions above are a "hoax" just because the real performance is less than the crazy claims in topic name
the fact of the matter is that our x1 is slow and unresponsive especially in many cases. if we can get any increase
i don't really care if the real increase is much much much less than the claimed %500 or %1200 numbers. if we can get extra %20 noticeable performance increase then we should be thankful
no one is working on or testing this?!!

damn less than 12 hrs later.. and ur already on page 2.. so much for a bump!
Hi,
In probably 3 to 4 hours Extendir v1.05 will be released, which will run great and stable on the X1!
For those who can't wait the Test14 build in the Extendir thread will be released as Extendir v1.05
The Test14 comes only with a 4MB and 8MB cache version but with the release of Extendir v1.05 there also will be more cache sizes
Extendir boost lite and full roms but full roms can benefit more if they are installed in an Extendir directory (the virtual alias part) since full roms have more files.
I think you all will enjoy!

Hi ShaDrac, based on my understanding so far, the main feature of your driver is to create a alias directory such that files that must be under /Windows (e.g. TF3D) could reside elsewhere. Since files stored as rom files under /Windows already optimized (compared w/ non rom files), so the real benefit I see is lite rom (instead of full rom) users who need to install programs/files under /Windows afterward. Can you comment?

Hi jackleung,
The main feature of Extendir is to boost file system performance.
The bonus feature of Extendir is the ability to alias a file in the windows folder. With this ability you overcome one of the weaknesses of our current file systems.
But a cook or end user is free to use this feature or not.
To know how big the benefit is, is easy, just try it.
But to give you a global idea:
If a rom has 1000 files cooked in, the files system performance is normal (of the IMGFS).
If a rom has 4000 files cooked in, the files system performance is slower(of the IMGFS).
If a phone has 1000 files installed afterwards, the files system performance with Extendir is fast (of the FATFS).
If a phone has 4000 files or even 40000 files installed afterwards, the files system performance with Extendir is still fast (of the FATFS).
So Extendir boost your file system performance and (thanks to the bonus feature) keeps it fast even if there are a lot of files installed.
So Extendir boost lite and full roms,
But full roms can benefit more if they install there files in an Extendir directory (the virtual alias part) since full roms have more files.
I think you all will enjoy!
ShaDrac
jack are you planning to do a public test rom that uses this?
for some odd reason many cooks are not interested in this
I'd love to see this thing in action if it does what it says.
Have been following both threads and the benchmarks look phenominal, we only need one person to try it and the resulting ROM will indeed speak for itself.
Hehe you never know Grizz, it may make your camera faster
Regards,
Creamy-Goodness
Thanks ShaDrac this is music to my ears, will try to do a test

New Video Drivers:can some1 make a cab?

Hi to all,
reading the post about the port of Sense 2.5.2012 by Amarullz, i've aknowledged from Captain_Throwback that Topaz_S2 video drivers seems to be the best available option to improve our Raphael's performance:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5727490&postcount=527
He provided also a .zip with these drivers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5727643&postcount=529
I (and i think a lot of other members) want to try these drivers, so we need to package them into a .cab: is there someone that can provide our community a .cab with these drivers?
Thank you everyone trying to do this.

Thank you very much!!!
EDIT:
I have tryed these drivers and sliding through tab now is really smoother, as sliding down the hometab and between cookie's pages.
I want to hear other opinions, because i think they deserve to be cooked in roms!!!

That's cool
Just installed via .cab going to need more time to see if i'm suffering placebo effect also would rather remove NeoS2007 driver set 3 from kitchen and see results.
But seems smother also a little bit snappier on TF3D 2.1 "non sense" page load.
I'll update post after cooked in
Unfortunately with my standard KPN factory ROM the Touch Pro freezed upon reboot. With the end result being a Hard-reset. Likely it is required to security unlock your device given that these are not Raphael drivers.

Probably you need to HardSPL before flashing them...
On custom ROM they works perfectly.
One note: Captain_Throwback and NRGZ28 ROMs for sure have these drivers cooked in, so if you use one of their ROM you don't need to install them again.
Works fine for me on NRG Leo 21892 ROM. It is hard to judge, but it does seem to be a bit snappier with the new drivers.
And what about video performance ? Anybody measured the speed of those drivers vs the "old" ones ?

With NeoS2007 driver set 3:
Results
--------------------------------
alpha texture (128x256 rgba)
28809 kPixels/s
torus (3k triangles) one light
6314 kPixels/s
color blending
30766 kPixels/s
sub texture (128x128 15x15)
9328 kPixels/s
Topaz_S2 video drivers:
Results
--------------------------------
alpha texture (128x256 rgba)
29016 kPixels/s
torus (3k triangles) one light
4197 kPixels/s
color blending
28703 kPixels/s
sub texture (128x128 15x15)
11477 kPixels/s

Not sure how to read it as slightly lower on 2 but way higher on 1.
I never really trust tests as so many variables you never get the same result twice Also not enough to go on since opengl isn't only effected by drivers.

been testing for about 3 hours.....SBP MS seems snappier
Today managed to get testing via cooking:
Placed links as big screenshots.
Topaz Left - Neo Right
TeastOpenGL : http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2743/4455559296_a2e08bec99_b.jpg
CorePlayer : http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4042/4455559452_6b2d5ddcb2_o.png
This was a very fair test flash settle OpenGL then CorePlayer on both.
Yet as i previously said i can't go fully on benchmarks as not only OpenGL to take into account with the drivers.
Topaz seems snappier but is lower in results.
Just thought may be interesting and had a boring Monday

Thanks for sharing. The way folks seem to be migrating to the S2 drivers, you would think the improvement was convincing, yet these benchmarks indicate otherwise...

That's cool Yeah i'm using Neo as even with the "things look snappier" it doesn't look good on paper...

Yes, you can install them without problems if you already installed a custom rom...and if you don't like them you can uninstall...
