Extended_ROM damaged? - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

Hi all, I have a QTEK 9100.
I installed the cab to unhide the extended ROM folder and after a soft-reset I installed Windows Commander/CE 2.0 on my device and when I try to browse Extended_Rom folder I have access but some files names are "unreadable" (I mean, weird characters) and report an impossible file size (example 3.03 GB!)
My question is: Is my Extended_Rom damaged or encripted? How can I get access to it?

Your extended rom is corrupted and recoverable only by flashing a new one into it. Either you deleted or tried to write something to it and that is NOT possible via file exploring; the only way to write to the extended rom is via RUU updater or via DOC writing (both ways require a 10MB image/backup)
Check my tool as it allows to write to the extended rom zone and unhide it as well without damaging it

Can't over-write BTWizardProfiles.dll to enable ext modem

Hi, I put the I-Mate 1.40 WWE on my XDA IIs they other day. I'm just trying to over-write the BTWizardprofiles.dll file to allow my PDA to use an external modem. I have found that all the dll files in the windows folder are write protected and hidden! Anybody got any ideas on how to over-write this file. I tried removing the BT tray link from my startup folder, just incase the file was in use.
ROM 1.40.00 WWE ( the latest Imate rom from the FTP site)
ROM Date 03/10/05
Radio 1.13.00
ExtRom 1.40.176 WWE
Just to add a bit more....
I've done some reading and mucked about with un-hiding the extended rom. This is not the same thing. The files that are locked are the dll files in the windows directory, specificly the blutooth dlls that you over-write with a different version that allows you to use external bluetooth modems.
Try grabbing a demo copy of Resco Explorer -- it'll let you change the R/O & hidden properties on any non-ROM file.
Thanks, I tried that. It says the file is a rom file amd won't let me delete it. I found a different way of doing it. I down loaded a cab from www dot azukla dot com slash bt3900dun.bat
So, Im still trying to work out why, with o2, everything works but with 1.40 pda2k software, the windows dlls are marked as rom files

Recovering Extended ROM

I was playing with the Disk on Chip resize utility because I am contemplating upgrading to WM2K5 now it is available. I used the Disk on Chip resizing utility to resize my extended ROM to 10Mb from its default, but I didn't check that I had got a good backup of all the CABs, so now when I unhide my extROM, I see an empty folder. I thought I hadn't unlocked it, but when I try to unlock it, I get
ERROR: FL_IOCTL_BDTL_HW_PROTECTION - A device attached to the system is not functioning
I can however write to my extROM folder
I could just resize extROM back to 16Mb & reflash (I'm using imate 1.40.176), but I'd like to learn something from my mistakes & hopefully just put back the CABs into the extROM. The problem is I don't have the CABs, just the nbf files. How can I extract CAB files from NBFs?
OK, I'm stupid
I shoulda just looked on the wiki in the extended ROM kitchen, downloaded the RAR file of the appropriate ROM, unpacked it, copied the files into the extended_ROM folder on my BA & tested using a hard reset
Oh yeah, that's just what I did - it worked fine & I now have my extROM sized to fit what I need rather than the default. Apart from saving empty space, I removed skype from the extROM; I can't see the point of having it when I already have a perfectly good phone

RE: Extra Storage
Another method I used.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Alpine/Extra Storage unlocker
Copy the exe in the zip file to your Alpine, then tap to run on pda. It doesn't show a finished message.
I use 'resco explorer', with show hidden etc in the settings, I haven't tried to vew with only the standard file explorer, it may work as well.
Goto Windows on your pda and you should see a folder called 'shared' it should show 60.9mb free. If you do use Resco Explorer and hold your stylus on the shared folders and select properties, you can change all the attributes (Hidden, Archive, Read, Write and ROM), although I haven't needed to.
Correct Link for above

Hello
I'm be happy that a way seems to be real, but it do not work on my 2020I.
I select unlock Extrom, but the Extrom is no visible, so i select Unhide and it say to me to do soft reset. After it, i don't see any Extrom. Only way is to use original LoadVisk, but it is writeProtected.
Where i am in fault ?
Thank's

I used the Loadvisk on my XDAIIi and I can write to it etc (Shared folder in windows).
Use Resco file explorer to change the shared folder attributes. Make sure you configure Resco to show hidden files etc.
Heres the link

Loadvisk
Here is Loadvisk program I used on XDAIIi, it may help
Confused loadvisk does not access ext rom?????
I'm confused about loadvisk. I thought it unlocked the ext ROM, but no it only gives access to your RAM not to extended rom.
I tried the other tool on here unhide, unlocked, where do I access the rom in my file explorer?
so please ignore my previous posts about loadvisk.
How can I reverse loadvisk to hide the shared folder again?
sorry if this is a bit jumbled, I'm just finding out about this stuff myself
Thank's for reply
But it do not work.
If i use loadvdisk_493.exe, it show Extended_Rom as entry, that is the same result as LoadVdisk.exe that exist in Windows directory. I can't modify files inside Extended_Rom and it as this name, not Shared folder. It is not a folder but new media and with resco 5.22 i can't change attributes because it do not permit to media, only with files or folder.
Secondly, if i use Exttrom_200_250.exe, i can't write to in Extended_Rom.
Is this write for you ??

RE: EXT Memory
Hi,
Loadvisk has nothing to do with extended memory, it creates a virtual disk of your Program RAM (see 'Memory' on you PDA). This shows as a folder called 'shared' in Windows, when you copy files to this folder, the look at your memory, you will see that it stores in your program section of your memory and so I wouldn't bother with it.
I have had a good look around and I can find nothing to unlock the true extended memory, only the tool you used to unhide it.
You can flash your extended memory with the 2577 method, but this is not ideal for users who just wnat to access and write to ext memory.

There is another method to write to the extended rom but is far more involved than the method DAz mentioned. It does actually write to the Extended ROM so it therefore survives a hard reset and allows you customise the ROM with programs and remove stuff you don't use like the bloody annoying O2 active crap.
I've used it and can say that with a little patience it is fairly easy to do, although trial and error is required sometimes. Some programs don't seem to install from a hard reset however most do (Pocket Plus, Resco Explorer, TCPMP etc work fine).

Already knew how to solve the above problem but there is a new arise
Some cab file installed but haven't found in program files even they are support WM5

Autorun.exe Help Required

Can anybody help me with a problem
I want to autoinstall some cab files on a wm5 wizard. (Like tomtom does under wm2003)
Problem WM5 don't want to install!!!
I have used the 2577 folder and the autorun from tomtom, renamed my cabs to the tomtom names (ttn.cab, gps.cab etc) this works fine under wm2003 but will not install on wm5
Does Anybody have a hacked autorun.exe that installs cabs on wm5 or
a Hacked extended rom autorun.exe that reads the config from the storage card instead of the extended rom.
The second option would be better as then all i have to do is re-write the config for different sd-cards
Please Please Please help me all you programmers/hackers/reverse-engineers or whatever you would lke to be known as.
Many thanks in advance
Autorun reads the ini from the /ExtendedRom/ location and that is hardcoded..
I can't be changed because it will render the certificate invallid.
However you can use:
PocketPC Installer ( http://www.pocketpctoolkit.com/index.htm )
It will make an autorun.exe for you (to install cabs registry keys etc etc..)

Doesn't Autoconfig.exe just reads the Config.txt file from the same directory?
Just change the Config.txt so it fits your needs and I think you will be done.
Only problem is that every app will be installed to Main Storage.
I actually have to know this, but cannot try it right now, my device is flashing one of my test Roms

The one from orange (NLD) doesn't. It reads the one in the extended rom.
Have disassebled it with IDA-pro, there I saw the strings pointing to the extended rom.
After patching it I got a certificate error when I tried to run it..
