I don't have a Dopod but an x7500/Advantage and I don't have this problem with the battery. Are you using the supplied wall charger or trying to charge via USB through a computer or other low power source?

external battery links for Athena...
Here are a couple links (keep in mind I haven't tried any of these):

http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=118661
Hope this is what you're looking for. The first one is a 5400mAh external battery. Sounds like it'll last a long time on the Athena since the factory battery is only 2200mAh.

Sorry but I've never seen one for the Athena. Maybe I just haven't run into one or the device is too new for these to be out already. If you find one please post it here for the rest of us. Also, please no more double posting.

This is your third thread on the same topic - one is plenty, thanks

Here is the charger:

That's just for the battery. I think the original post is looking for a docking cradle for the Athena itself, and IIRC HTC were planning on launching such a device, with a fairly high cost.

Cradle ?

Has anyone seen anything about a cradle being available ?
I generally pop my blueangel in the cradle when I get home at night and it charges up and syncs really quickly there as well.

I haven't been able to find one. I bought my TyTn II from clove and they are to have a cradle "soon". http://www.clove.co.uk/viewProduct....Category=0A33F854-4108-4A5E-805C-63811E7D6256
I'm not going to buy one until I get confirmation that it will be able to charge a second stand alone battery.
Hey,
My TyTN II fits in the cradle from HTC for my TyTN. Not perfectly , but 95%. It is fully functional.

Thats great. Thanks for the info. So this one will work fine then http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300149305916
And does yours charge the extra battery in the back with no problem?
I guess I should look up the charging specs before purchasing one.
I just got the TyTN cradle today and the extra battery charger in the back of the cradle has 5 connectors but my TyTN II battery has 4 connectors so if any one is getting a TyTN cradle to charge an extra battery its a waste of money. I know the poster recommended the cradle to charge and hold up the TyTn II and did not advise on the extra battery charging so it was my mistake. I'm just posting this in case another user may find this information helpful.

Strange that the TYTn II fits into the TyTn cradle... I have a car holder for my TyTn and even though The new TyTn II fits into car holder 95% but it does not charge strangely enough.
Yup, the TyTn Charge cradles work but the back of the Kaiser is thinner which places most of the support work on the connector. Plus that extra battery charger ports are now useless. Definately wait for a "real" Kaiser charge cradle. Ahh, the trials of early adopting
I took the TyTN cradle apart, pealed back the glue holding 2 of the end pins down, popped off the center right pin and placed the end pin in its place, went under it with super glue then over it with loctite glue. I put the extra battery in the back, it was at 1% charge and it took 6 hours to get to 100%. It shows red for charging and green for charged. It doesn't get as warm as a battery usually would when charging which coincides with the lengthy 6 hour charge time. The cradle doesn't charge the phone unless the usb is plugged in. But I believe this will suit my needs and any other impatient users out there. It took less than 2 minutes and was super easy.
Which band cradle? Mine has no way to re-locate the pins, there are "divots" on each side of the contacts, right where the moved ones would need to be.
Did you mean which brand of cradle? The guy on ebay has 3 more of them. Do you want me to email u pics of my modified one? Its no trouble. http://search.ebay.com/search/searc...+htc+cingular+8525+hermes+tytn+b78&category0=
If anyone decides to do this I just wanted to single out the fact that my findings were that this works but charges the battery very very slowly. The last 10 percent to reach 100% took 2 hours to complete. The battery is cold in the charger. However the upright cradle charging the phone charges at a normal rate.
I'll prolly wait for Kaiser docks to surface. On the one you modded, did it charge Hermes batteries slowly as well? They are the same capacity and if the Kaiser takes longer I'd be concerned that the charger wasn't monitoring the charge correctly. I use a lot of lithiums in R/C gear and they burn really well when chargers go astray.
Ive never had a Hermes. It charges the battery at almost a normal rate but then when the battery is 90% the charge light turns green then the last 10% takes a few hours to charge up.
Any updates on this ? Finally got my Tilt yesterday and am ready for a cradle

I would like one of these also, but I would like to make it work as a speakerphone while in the cradle. I guess I would need a mini USB splitter and an audio and mike adapter too?
Anyone seen such an animal or have any ideas on just how to do it??
Thanks

"First Charge" question

...Ok, so my Diamond has shipped through Devicewire so should be here tomorrow.
My question is, how long should I charge it for before I use it for the first time? Is it a case of waiting until it's charged before I use it, or should I leave it on overnight for the first charge?
Thanks.
First fully charge to 100% (approx 1 hour, it's quite fast), then it pretty much does not matter.
My diamond takes forever to charge the battery...
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong...
Could anyone from Europe show here a picture of their battery charger and it's specs?
Thankx
I swear it doesn't matter, Li-Ion batteries have no memory, so it doesn't matter

what do you mean by 'forever'?
Its unlikely its the charger, and more likey its a fault in the battery. It is dangerous to overcharge Lithium based batteries so there is a charge protection circuit in the battery. This circuit provides information to the phone (voltage/current/temperature) so that it knows when the battery is full. If the battery isnt reaching a good voltage - usually because there has been some plating and a cell failed - the phone will keep going.
Forever, means roundabout 5hours to charge the battery.
My first charge, took me one night...

Thanks guys.
Quick one. The guy in the Orange shop said charge the Diamond for 8 hours with it switched off on first use. Is that the best amount of time to charge?
Also, I see the battery already has some charge on it, if that makes any difference.

Just charge it until it reaches 100% and you will be ok. Besides, after the battery is charged it doesn't do anything more so no need to have it charging for 8 hours. No need either to have the phone turned off. And try not to let the battery drain completely before charging. Don't let it drop below 10-15%.
Currently it shows 3 bars on the battery. It came with that out of the box. Does that mean I should wait for that to drain before recharging?
No. All devices come with the battery partially charged. Just plug it in (it is better to use your pc for charging rather than the AC charger) and let it charge until it reaches 100%.

I have seen them on ebay, to me they look like the kind of thing you would use to charge a second battery if you had one.
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Yep it is. Just wondering if anyone had tried it.
Looks like a generic charger which you set the size to fit your phone's battery
I just purchased one. I had to buy it as i am in need of a charging cable (lost mine). If anyone has a spare charging cable i would gladly pay it as long as they will ship it registered mail to canada
in the meantime does anyone know what pins are postive and negative on the battery?
Chargers off Ebay
I got one off Ebay and it is working but it is extremely slow! It is a MyBat brand and you see tons of videos on you tube, but it is taking almost 48 hours to charge it to 100%. Can anyone confirm this 3G brand is any faster? Or can someone who has an Ebay account buy one and list a charger cable lol, I use mine for two to three days then I have to charge it two days. Please help and any input would be greatly appreciated!

Email from seller
Hi guys,
I bought the same charger and asked which one of the two metal prongs is positive and which one is negative and if the seller knows which contact on the battery is positive/negative.
Apparently the charger can automatically switch polarity...
I've also noticed on the label that the charger has 600mA through the USB port and 400mA through the mains. That's why it's really slow I reckon...
Anyway, here's their response:
You can use the charger by following instruction:
Features and Functions Guide of the charger
for Dell Streak
Standard of the electrical
? Electric current of import: 110V-220V 50/60 HZ 0.1A
? Electric potential of battery charger: 4.2V-5.0V
? Electric current of battery charger:400MA
? Electric potential and current of USB charger: 5.0V-5.2V 600MA
Instruction
? The contacts of the charger can move, you can charge many different styles of battery according to the contacts of the battery.
? You also can adjust the length of the charger according to your battery, the maximum length is 2.95 inch, the minimum length is 0.67 inch. But you should do it gently, or the charge will be damaged.
? The battery for Motorola Droid A855 has 4 contacts, you should use the outsider contacts. And the charger can adjust Polarity automatically in order to fit for the polarity of the battery.
? When the charger is working, the light is pink, when the charger finishes charging, the light turns into blue. And the battery can not be charged for a long time, please pay attention to the light.
? The battery should charge the battery for 10-14 hours in the first three times, and later you should charge the battery for more than 8 hours. Then you can activate the capacity of the battery.
? The USB charger can charge your phone with a suitable USB cable. When you use the battery charger and the USB charger at the same time, the charger will let the USB charger first. The light is blue, after the USB charger finishes its charge, the battery charger will work, and the light is pink.
Warning
? Please do not take out the battery when the charger connects to power supply, or, you will hurt yourself, the battery will be damaged.
? Please do not knock down the item on purpose.
? Please do not let the charger be damped or be exposed in the water.

Thanks mate. So have you had any success in charging with your charger?
Its slow but it works. Took about 30hours to charge my battery.
Its only 400mA. 1000mA is preference when charging our batteries.

Yes, it seems to work fine, although so far I have only used it on a partly charged (~80%) battery.
The charger that I received works off the mains (110-250V at 50 or 60Hz).
It delivers 4.2V at 350mA (+/-50mA) to the battery. However, the battery is under no load, whereas when you charge a battery in situ in the Dell Streak there will be a drain on the battery while it's charging (depending on whether the display/GPS/wifi etc is switched on).
The charger also has a USB output (5.2V at 800mA).
Given the price, I would expect all the voltages and currents to be nominal (although to be fair the build quality is good enough).
Hi I just bought the 3G commerce one the one on ebay but got it at a local chinese/electronic store, the plate that is used to hold the battery against the two pins has to be stretched almost all the way out, feels like it will break the inner spring, probably wont at least I hope so. I have yet to charge my battery with this charger but will do it tonight and see how that goes.
I usually charge my battery with a blackberry desktop charger I had to mod the hell out of it so it could fit the streak battery, and that charger i believe is 4.2v 350ma and charges the battery from 2% to 100% in a little less than 4.5 hours. We use 110v AC for main juice.
When using this "generic" chargers ALWAYS make sure it is a Li-Ion/Poly charger.
You can start a fire if you don't use a proper charger. I will point this out as much as possible
solar charger / dell streak / recharger / battery
why not use a solar charger, i bought one from here ( i am not making an ad, just saying what has worked for me for your sake)
apparently i cant post links yet, just go to gkitshop, look up a 2600mAH solar charger
have a good life

[Q] External Battery Charger?

Hey guys I searched the 4 pages of posts for the Droid 3 but could not find anything.
Looking for a charger to charge a battery outside of the phone so I can carry a second charged battery around with me. Does not need to be OEM, any suggestions.
Thanks

I purchased my external charger from cellularfactory, it was item number 49536-M07-148. Works great and can charge the phone and extra battery at the same time. Cost was about $17.00.
