Thinking of buying ? Help needed - HTC Breeze

I am thinking of buying Breeze/MTeor but I wanted to get users opinon on the phone, things that I would like to use:
Pushmail, Naviagation.
Things I wanted to know about was:
1 - Does the phone freeze or hang ?
2 - Is there any problems where you miss alot of phone calls (had this issue on HTC TyTn)
3 - Does it work fast enough, navigating through menu and apps ?
4 - Will I be able to use TomTom ?
5 - If anyone has experience of Pocket PC, what the difference you find with Smartphone version ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
first you could read the Wiki (Review's) maybe help you too!!
second:
i had an TyTn before the MTeor!
had also many problems with the tytn ... but most of them in wm5 ... with wm6 most is gone...
i had no phone hang yet on mteor! no calls missed ... i didn't expect any problems so far...
speed is very good! (is the only sp with a 300 mhz cpu) !!!
you are able to use tomtom!
once there is an special smartphone tomtom edition you also can use the pocketpc version! there is a programm called PSHelper with that programm you can act with the d-pad like you have a touchscreen (with a mouse coursor!!)
the differences between the ppc and sp are the missing of a touchscreen!! but as you can see on tomtom with pshelper there is also not a big problem!
some apps did not work on sp ... like the game worms... there are some special smartphone versions of apps out!!
for software just look in wiki!!
also theres a bit difference in the today screen but nothing big.. you did not have such plugins like on the ppc ... just browse the web for sbsh facade or look in to wiki i have attached a screenshot in the skin section ... there you can see the agenda software...

Thanks, I did look through the Wiki and the forum before posting.
I cannot find anything about PSHelper searched google too, do you have a link ?
I sold my TyTn and went for a treo 750v which I really do like, but I want to go to a smaller phone but keep alot of the functions, and the MTeor seems to be the perfect solution.
Which version of TomTom are you running, I have version 6 I use on my treo can I use this with PSHelper ?

Hi,
sorry my fault program calls sphelper
http://www.bobsoft.com/sphelper/
i used it with tomtom5 and 6 theres no difference...
simply explained... the programs that are written for ppc waits for input on screen! but you cant do that on a smartphone...
so the mouse cursor does that for you!!
for me the mteor is the best solution... it is a phone with pocketpc funktionalities!!
i have loved my tytn but the size and weight ....
if you want a slideout keyboard i prever you to wait for s730 ? because s710 has the slide out keyboard but the "slow" omap cpus ....

s730 with keyboard starts looking like my TyTn I think I'd be happy with the MTeor and hopefully with the new versions you mentions, should mean the MTeor resale price should be coming down, works for me.

1 - I haven't had any problems with the phone hanging.
2 - I have huge problems, especially when roaming, that the phone looses the connection to the network - even if the signal strength is good. Others have had a better experience.
3 - I find it fast enough.
4 - Only Tomtom mobile 5 will work. Tomtom navigator 6 is only done for PPC.
5 - I will be going the other way soon, getting a 3600 instead. I've never used a PPC yet.

I did some time ago. Cool maybe, but I find the resulting user interface (TT6+sphelper) almost unusable anyway. Maybe I should have written that TT6 doesn't work very well with MTeoR since TT6 is written for PPC and not smartphones. It can be made to work, barely.

Alright at last I won myself a Mteor on ebay, waiting for delivery hopefully Thursday, can't wait
So tomtom5 runs without the need for sp helper, tomtom6 you need sp helper is that right ?
Does it really make it unusable ?, Is sphelper always running? does it slow down the phone at all ?

tomtom6 you need sp helper is that right ?

yes
TT5 has a smartphone version and pocket version, but TT6 is pocket only. So you need rather additions to run pocket software like TT6
Is sphelper always running? does it slow down the phone at all ?

you need run it only when you want to use TT6

So should I just use TomTom Mobile 5 which was made for smartphone? (I take it voices is a problem)
Is there any benefit of using TomTom 6 ?

TT6 has much better maps.
Note: TT 5.200 is the lowest version you need.

What GPS software package are you guys thinking of using?

Well, I am all prepared to buy the Kaiser when it hits the market. I am already looking at the GPS software packages out there for my Kaiser (hopefully GPS is not locked to Telenav). Even if it is locked, I am pretty sure all the good cooks out here will modify the ROM to fix this. What are you all thinking about using?
I've been using Route 66 on my Wizard and it works quite well. DeLorme Pocket Street Atlas is OK but the maps and routing aren't as good.
Lots of people swear by TomTom, and a few reviewers/testers have used it on their pre-production Kaisers. Both semsons.com & buygpsnow.com have a wide selection of GPS software packages.
I use tomtom and find it great.
i think ill also use tomtom. which one is the best?
ive never owned a gps device, so that's the only software ive really heard of..
I've been using OCN6 with my Wizard. . . anxious to see if it works with the Kaiser/8925/Tilt.
Route66 for me. I want my traffic information without having to pay a subscription...
Only thing that could be improved is the frequency of the map updates, where TomTom is the clear winner, but I've had no problems with my R66 map accuracy so far.
regarding the GPS:
Does anyone of you know wether there is GPS Software that could pull images from google maps?
Like a "show me satellite image of my current location" - button?
I think that would be really cool, but does it already exist?
And secondly, I'm looking for a GPS - Software that runs in the background and logs the GPS coordinates in order to geotag photos from my digicam later. Any recommendations here?
Try Mapopolis...
I use Mapopolis and it works and looks great on my ETEN X500+ VGA device. I'll use it when I get the Kaiser too. The resolution will go down but I still love the program.
Mapopolis has a GPS TRAIL option that logs your trip at preset intervals (every 5 minutes, 5 miles or whatever). All you have to do then is use the Location SMS feature of WM6 with pictures attached at capture the places you want. From there, you can create a nice Trip Photo Album with coordinates or send the trip via email.
TEC
I can't really compare software as I have only used Tomtom, but I have always found the program great and have never felt tempted to even try another software package because it has always worked so well.
With my 8525 I purchased the Garmin Mobile 10 which is this awesome little gps receiver that fits in your palm. It's bluetooth and all I do is put the tiny thing in my pocket. It uses Garmin software and works amazingly well. I'm wondering whether this would be MORE accurate than the built in GPS receiver in the Kaiser. If this is more accurate then I'll keep on using it but if the 8925 works just as well then I'll probably sell the garmin.

Wow great find. The downside to this software though is it requires an internet connection to connect to google when planning routes. So, if you don't have coverage then youre going to get lost.
MDA Vario III
The Vario III will be coming with CoPilot out of the box (there are having alot of problems in the testing of this cant cant make it work) they are also having problems gettin the WiFi stay on. So all you UK users who are after the Vario III (me included) will be waiting till the start of Oct

Says here its coming with tom tom taster version
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/wi...tytn-ii-europe-ultimate-mobile-companion.html
I'll be using iGuidance, as it's what I'm using now on my Hermes...
I'll be using TomTom Nav 6. It also has a satelite download but I've never used it.
I just got my TyTN II and installed iguidance 3.0.1.
It doesn't actually start most of the time. It appears to run once after a reboot but then not again.
I can see the exe in the process list but the app is not actually running. or never finishes starting.
So maybe i will give tom tom a try. LOL
Edit: Oh actually i ran it and waited 10 minutes and the program actually launched.. so there are definitely a few issues.

Actually, I'd love if someone with a Kaiser would try Mapopolis - just load the Los Angeles, USA map and see if it's usable. My Hermes dogs out completely at high zoom levels - I'm presuming due to only 64MB of memory vs the 128MB in my old iPAQ 5555. (By "dogs out" I mean drag-panning the map is extremely jerky and category searches take near to a minute!)
Mapopolis' POI management is second to none, and it's had text-to-speech for ages. TomTom v6.030 is the latest PocketPC version I've found and it still has no text-to-speech, won't allow you to add your own POIs to the canned categories, etc.

looking for former Trinity owners

just wondering if some of you that upgraded from a trinity to a Kaiser are happy with it.. Was thinking about getting one.. have been trying an iphone, but the lack of good pda features is killing me..
so i've been looking at getting a kaiser, but without a lot of nice cooked roms out yet and stuff, i was just wondering what you guys thought about it.

I will take the Kaiser anytime over the trinity, save the bug of the bulk updates on the GPS system.
Just using the stock ROM and add on the softwares that I need, and its great.
The response is faster than the trinity.
The GPS system is definitely a lot faster. Can get fix almost immediate.
Not sure about the peeling off issue will happen to Kaiser. Just got mine for few days.

Hello my friend, I have changed to HTC Tytn II, and man what a big change, loving the new one and not even missing the trinity a bit, the Kaiser is for sure a keeper, its a show piece, high quality material finish, no peeling issues, keyboard with a lovely tilt, GPS is outstanding; by the time you start the nav app your gps is fixed , and not forgetting the big space in both ram and rom, I do recommend the Kaiser to everybody, and would always look forward to see a Kasierguides.info by racerx_
Yep - I was a Trinity owner and for me , I got really frustrated at not having a proper keyboard - solved with the Kaiser!!!
Plus it has a lot more memory available, especially with a cooked ROM..
Cheers
John
I also upgraded my Trinity to Kaiser, and I fully agree with taiseer999.
He forgot to mention the Trinity MiniSD issue with disappearing files and stuff. the Kaiser dont have this issue at all.
The down side for me in compare to the Trinity is the size and the weight, and also the BT Headset sound. but other than that, all perfect for me.
helllo....
i'm using trinity before i get brand new htc tytn II.For me,htc tytn II is better than trinity in all department.Because of that i sold my trinity.
For Iphone i had too for a week, but i cant compare those two devices because there build for different purpose and differrent os,but the two of devices is good.....
cheers
Kaiser feel very solid when compared to trinity. But the weight difference is quite big. But love every moment with it. GPS connection is definitely faster. Haven't tried cook rom yet since the ROM/RAM size is double of trinity.
Keyboard is good but with new software keyboard like touchpal. Hardware keyboard is no longer a necessity.
thanks everybody for the feedback.. very helpful. Sounds like no one's looking back...

the GPS stream does not come in smoothly like the trinity, but instead, it comes in bursts every 8 seconds or so.
The updates on voice navigation is therefore somewhat delayed at times.
Sometimes, it can tell me to exit at the intersection ahead, where I have already passed it.
This is with the bundled R12 Mapking (for asia), and Mapking 2007 (retail).

you see, using the R12 that comes with Kaiser in the Trinity, there is absolutely no problems at all.
Using the same version of MK2007 on Trinity, there is no problems at all as well.
From what I can comprehend, its the GPS multiplexing software that is causing the problem in the Kaiser.
The R12 fix you are talking about most probably reroutes the signal by bypassing the multiplexer, directly to the GPS COM port.
This way, if you have 2 GPS softwares running at the same time, the 2nd software cannot work. e.g. R12, and GPS photo.
But anyway, since HTC has acknowledged that its a bug, I guess its good to let all know.
sorry this is still confusing me. Is there a problem with gps bursts or not? I thought you said there was, now saying there's not??

the GPS signal/stream comes in bursts every 7-8 seconds, unlike in trinity, where its updated frequently.
Since you are using MK2007, you should see that the GPS stream is updated smoothly in it.
what this cause is that your location is updated whenever the burst comes in.
So if you are driving, and it tell yous to "exit at the intersection ahead", you may have already passed it.
I used the EXACT same copy of MK2007 on both trinity and Kaiser.
Trinity ok, Kaiser NG (bursts)
Using the EXACT same copy of MKR12 from Kaiser on trinity, its ok, but when you install it on Kaiser, you get the bursts... and you need to use the updated version on the Kaiser to workaround this issue.
Matrix:
------------MK2007-------MKR12------
Kaiser -------NG------------NG-------|
Trinity-------OK------------OK-------|
So to me, its a problem, and HTC acknowledged that its a bug.

Is your TomTom this slow - Video inlcuded

Just wondering if anyone's TomTom 6 or 7 is as slow as the one as this video I made or is yours running smoothly. Would have though TomTom would have ran much better than this due the the GPU acceleration
Even though it's a VGA screen my Tytn 2 was running this much, much faster, not far off silky smooth . The TomTom in the video is v7 VGA running the latest v7.20 maps (tested also with TomTom 6 QVGA running v6 maps and was just as slow).
Am posting this as reading some posts here and people are saying my TomTom is running smoothly, mines running perfectly, no lag etc.
Look forward to your feedback

Yep, mine is as ****ty as yours. That is the reason I liked Tomtom is it's smooth movement..... not on the Diamond though, might as well run a slideshow, could possibly be faster.
hi radeon, it seems that i have the same problem as you.
till now i'm thinking it's because of the gps refresh rate, but i'm not really sure
because this should offend all diamond users...
but for me the major problem of using any gps software at the moment is the
enormous lag at low speeds. when i'm in a traffic jam the position updates approx.
only every 100m, and the actual speed is also very slow in changing it's values (i'm
standing still and the tachymetre shows still ~10km/h for a few seconds...
i guess this is because the static navigation of the chipset.

markus
Hi
I had the same problem on my first tomtom, you display too much POIs, try to disable a lot of POI and retest.
POI's Rubbish
It has nothing to do with the number of POI's. I have run the exact same version of TTN and the exact same map on a Treo 750 with ALL POI's activated and it was as smooth as my Tomtom GO720.
I just find it hard to beleive that my old Palm ran faster??????
Dont know why but it isnt POI's.

Would love to see this to
Just as a test, I removed all my POI's and voices from the map folder and ran TomTom with as little on screen as possible, also disabled all street names etc, did a demo run and it ran at exactly the same speed as that video.
I'm running the TLR 1.37.405.1 rom at the moment, so hopefully this maybe a rom issue because the GPU is doing bugger all to help run TomTom, seems the CPU is doing everything, and being a VGA screen that's why it's a lot slower than my old Tytn 2 which the CPU did everything there to.
This is the only issue I have with the Diamond and it's an annoying one

1. Igo v8
2. TomTom v7
3. Sygic McGuider v7

The delay is not caused by the software. It is the way they implemented GPS in the Diamond.
what's the legal status of loading TomTom 7 on a Diamond/branded handset that does not include this
I know of someone who tried to buy maps from Tomtom - and they accused him of piracy for loading the software - took his money and closed off his access to the maps he had bought online

That's pretty dumb to buy maps for a software acquired illegally.
To come back to the original question :
I can see only 2 real contenders : TT7 and Igo8. I found pros and cons on each one and cannot decide which one to use...
Other GPS software are far behind those two
The Tomtom software is free. The map cost.
I have both Tomtom and Igo on my TD. Igo win hands down.

Where did you see that ???????
TomTom 7 for VGA devices is sweeeeet on the Diamond. It´s lightning fast and everything looks super sharp. Installed it yesterday... great gps locks on my diamond, even indoors in seconds...
I also have both TT7 and Igo8, and I prefer Igo8. The lag on TT7 seems less though (maybe just due to the big arrow!). Igo8's UK map has directed me down a few one way streets but I really prefer the interface, it is much easier to use even as a piece of map reading software, and I find the instructions clearer, with fewer ambiguous instructions (like BEAR LEFT = TURN LEFT sometimes = go straight other times on TT7)

Wrong!! I have TomTom 7 installed, it didnt come packaged on my device, and i sourced it from TomTom.
Also you might want to read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401679 particularly the title "TomTom 7 extracted from HTC Diamond"
If this was EXTRACTED from a HTC Diamond, it was shipped from HTC with TomTom 7 Installed!
and if you look here: http://navngo.com/pages/global/eng/news_and_press/htc_touch_eng you can read about Nav N Go WM6 compatible software
I suggest you go to both of the manufacturers websites and re-read the sections about PDA's
I -really- prefer the interface, features and visuals of IGO8 over TomTom. The problem is IGO8 has around 20M lag so I end up using TomTom.
destinator
I tried several applications in the past.
"Destinator" is the only package that works for me without problems
both on my diamond as on my other devices.
Destinator also does not have problems with all my other applications that
run in the background.
is use both Igo8 and Tomtom7. Both work fine on the diamond, except for the GPS lag (the same with Igo8 and TT7). I recently switched back from Igo8 tot TT7 because i found the screen from Igo8 too overwhelming, looks like a computergame with lots of information and colours. TT7 has more basic looks, wich on the -little (compared tot dedicated devices)- screen from the Diamond looks better. Only complaint about TT7 are the small icons for the POI's, on the Igo8 these are better visible than the TT7 ones.

I have a delay, but no more than 10m and when you're driving it really doesn't matter.
i have tried various versions of both TTN7 and IGo8, ended up sticking with IGo8, mainly because of the interface. The only thing that anoys me is not being able to put in Postcodes in the UK
anyone know a answer?

Rom. Swiftblade 7, radio 05...
Almost instant gps fix, very accurate even whilst out for a run...
Mostly used is Run.gps, then Memory map followed by IGO8 when I have to go to a meeting...

AFAIK iGo is illegal on the Diamond too since it's shipped only on SD cards that will hardly be accepted by our babies.

Not really - if you bought yourself iGo on SD card and ported it over, you have purchased the rights to use that software
...unless some overly pedantic legalese prohibits shifting the files from SD card to Internal Storage

Copilot 6 on MDA Vario IV

Hi ,
Has anybody had any trouble or know of any issues when installing Copilot 6 on Wm 6.1 ( in the HTC touch Pro, which T-mobile calls the MDA Vario IV)?
B
alright mate.
i have this with no probs
in fact i love how clear it looks
Thanks for that. I spoke to ALK themselves and they said it could mess up the device. Hence the question.. I shall try today..Cheers
As Mahender says. I do think there is some lag from the GPS (so warnings/alerts are slightly late) but I haven't really done a good test.
VGA display does look good and clear.
alright guys.
i dont use mine with gps as i have the seperate bluetooth thing.
i got this bundle with my old vario2 ( top phone).
i hvanet tried copilot with the phones gps.
so when in the car i use the seperate bluetooth to not slow down the phone.
having said that i do also have google witht he gps on the phone and tbh i think it works pretty cool. i dont reallly see any lag. ( not sure what delay constitutes lag) it does get my position with in 10 metres.
so for car i use copilot and if ever not in car i would use google maps.
mahender.
