HTC delays WM6 ROM till end of July? - Wing, P4350 Herald Upgrading

All,
I've been eagerly awaiting the official WM6 ROM for the Herald from HTC and inquired yesterday re: when it will come out. Here's the response I got, looks like a delay :-(
------------------------------
Thank you for contacting HTC Europe regarding Windows Mobile 6.
For further information on our Windows Mobile 6 update strategy, including which devices will receive the update, please see the following link.
http://www.europe.htc.com/z/pdf/press/WM6_statement_v6.pdf
Once released, they should be available for download from the support section of the HTC website.
Provisional dates are as follows.
Athena (X7500/Advantage) - Middle of September Excalibur (S620) - Middle of September Hermes (TyTN) - End of July Herald (P4350) - End of July
Other devices dates are still being finalised.
These updates will require Registration, and will be only available for genuine HTC branded products. Network branded and Co-Branded devices are not included in this launch. For those devices please see the network or point of sale for updates.

Well it will be soon for the herald

Better late than never... We'll probably not even need to wait "THAT" long, who knows ?

I hope they really do it. We had the bad experience with imate before.

I hate damn delays, i'm going on holidays the 14th of july, i sure hope the update will be there!

Poping ?
Hi all,
This morning i logged in at members.htc.com and my pda model (p4350) as been removed from the section "software updates"... And i think that means something

Yes it was removed yesterday, it is still gone.. well of course i'm hoping that WM6 will be downloadable, but i don't think it will...

I emailed brightponint and asked about if they have cancelled wm6 for the p4350, and I got a response that the update to wm6 is not cancelled, but just a bit delayed, and that they will be available on HTC support as soon as its ready.

i h0pe it w0nt be late..i am thiking about install the non official wm6 but i d0nt kn0w the consequences :/..

If you do not know the consequences then do NOT attemp to flash WM6 on your device!Since you can end up with a brick and then wait for the official release, or you could use WM5 and wait for the official release.. choice is up to you

i think your are right:>..Btw..does any0ne kn0w where can i find wm5 offical? i bought my herald 1month ag0 but there is no cd inside the phone case with wm5..is there any link or site that i can download them in case i dont like wm6?

Confirmation from HTC: P4350 WM6 for end of July.
In HTC e-Club something is changing (now I can see my phone in software upgrades but still nothing to download).
Bye

I found a valid serial for DOPOD C800 for the HTC Club:http://member.htc.com/member/ProductRegistration.aspx (you have to register first)

You can change the red numbers to generate other serial numbers.
You can use this hint if you need a serial registration number to download the official ROM.

T-Mobile UK ROM soon?

Like the rest of us fed up T-Mob vario users i sent an email to tmob asking when we are going to get this blasted upgrade and the reply I got can mean one of two things:
- The ROM is going to be available real soon
- The person sending the email is mentally ungifted
Hello Philip
Thanks for your email about updating the firmware on your phone.
I'm sorry to hear that you still haven't been able to upgrade your MDA Vario. I can understand this must be frustrating for you.
I can tell you that there's the opportunity to update the firmware on your phone.
Please feel free to click on the following so you can do this http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/index.html.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact me Philip and I do hope you can upgrade your phone soon.
If you have any other questions about this then please let me know and I'll be happy to help.

Now from that I (probably rather optimistically) take that she thought the ROM would be available by the time I get the email so maybe they know something we dont (told you I was being optimistic).
Fingers crossed
don't hold your breath...
I emailed them months back, and had a phone call from one of the TMobile customer services guys a few days later, promising me the upgrade would be available to download "next week"..
That was around the easter bank holiday, so much for their promises..
looks like the good old generic email repsonse... giving you the location where the rom is located... no sign of a new one though...
Yeah had the same crap from them with my magician, overpromising and underdelivering. The hold up with this update of course being down to T-Mobile not being sure whether releasing AKU2 would screw up their blackberry sales.
Note to t-mobile: Blackberry sucks and overpriced whereas exchange is too complicated for most people to set up so you will still get your suckers paying for BB. Just give us AKU2 because if you don't then anyone who wants to use it will just use a different ROM and make damn sure that they never buy t-mobile again.
Hi Guys
My first post!
Herman
I notice you are using an o2 rom on your vario. is it any better?
I have had a vario for a week now and its too slow. i want to change to a better rom but do not know which to go for.
bhayani
Well welcome to the forums,
the O2 ROM does seem faster and definitly more stable. I was having quite a few niggles with the Tmob ROM in that respect. I still decided to overclock it though to increase responsiveness.
Im even using the O2 extended rom and just added the T-Mob GPRS settings:
Access Point: general.t-mobile.uk <-- .uk not .co.uk
username: user
password: pass
Hope that helps
Thx Herman
I have been onto the o2 site but they want my imei number and o2 phone number so couldn't really get any further. is there another way of getting the roms?
bhayani
take a look at the ftp site: ftp://xda:[email protected] in the wizard folder
U may need to unlock your phone before you can update, search the forums for instructions on flashing your phone with the rom.
I've just spoken to T-Mobile and I've been told that the release of the UK AKU2 update is indeed imminent. Apparently, the update itself is tested and ready, and the only delay is the meetings that are currently going on to decide the launch details.
Apparently, this update will also include or be released at the same time as the Blackberry Connect software in the UK.

currently using cingulars one which summiter had "amended" - very good.
not sure if ill take up t-mobiles new rom when it arrives... it'd need to be something special...
To all of you using non T Mobile Roms out there. What keyboard layout has the alternative Rom given you? i.e is it still a UK keyboard layout?

Anyone heard any new news on this?
I read on a forum today that it would be launched week begining 19th June. here's the link for the source:
http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/archive/2006/05/24/605828.aspx#618053
fingers crossed..! I think we've waited for too long...
I gave up - constant resets, whilst on the phone etc.
I now use the Qtek 2.17.7.2 WWE. it is so much more responsive & hasn't yet reset on its own accord yet. I've been using it for 2 weeks now & I've set up the push email for use via mail2web detailed else where on xda developers.
Wifi g works fine, as does syncing with my iMac (both OSX & XP).
I don't use MMS so I'm not sure if I've set it up correctly.
..by the time TMobile UK release AKU2.0 every other carrier will probably be rolling out their AKU2.2/2.3 implementation!
http://t-mobile.iris-global.com/download_manager_mda_vario.html
I found this on their website. Is this what you guys are looking for?
this is the link pointing to the current ROM. the new one, the one we're all waiting for, should appear on that website (hopefully soon). Maybe the 19th?

Full toucflo with cube in coming update for Tytn II

According to an interview made by the Swedish site www.mobil.se done with Christer Högström of HTC Sweden the full Touchflo functionality with the cube will be included in upcoming updates for the Tytn II. You should maybe take it with a grain of salt But that site is usually very well informed so we have to wait and see
Maybe only in the Swedish ROM?

WM 6.1 anyone ?
This sounds very interesting - won't get my hopes up though! One question though - HTC eClub won' let me register as my handset is from Orange. How would I download this update, should it ever become available?

From here. If you have a carrier branded htc device you can't sign up. It has to be an unlocked htc branded device straight from them.
I'm just waiting on the inevitable poster to come in here and say "does anybody have this yet? please upload!"
I will post it here if necesarry.
That seems a bit weird my IMEI/Serial was fine to sign up to e-Club and I am on T-Mobile not an unbranded HTC TyTN II.
Russ
Deathace,
I'm with T-Mobile also but can't sign up with the serial number, did you use that or your IMEI to sign up with?
Regards
Jim
Could care less about touchflo.

The AT&T Tilt did not recievve a ROM update today. This means no accelerated graphics for us and no WM 6.1. Thank you HTC and AT&T you have all been a big help.

Old news ! Not nice to start a " new " thread for something we had not expected anyway.
Yeah, I know its old news. But even so, a large amount of people do not know this, so its still worth posting.
Do you realize what board you're on? Don't generalize, you have been left behind, not me. I've been running WM6.1 on my Tilt since the winter when it first leaked and have been running the lasted build since Monday.

No, I have browsed through some threads and it seemed that a decent amount of people had not realized that only the HTC-Branded devices had recieved the update.
People who read stuff already knew for like a month that the update would probably be only for HTC branded devices, I guess you don't.
Anyways, it doesn't mean there won't be official updates for you, just that your company, whichever it is, will have to customize things first before releasing a rom, especially adding all their bloatware.
Oh, and about accelerated graphics, please, noone got them, it's not that you're a special target.
I know that there were some "fixes" but no drivers, and it has been said that ATT users will get it, just when they get ready to release it after adding all their crap.

I am here to help , what was the question ? I just heard a rant that the mods have said ( continually ) is not appropriate for these forums. If you read the official announcement from HTC when they announced the TYtN upgrade, they said that they had no plans to release an upgrade fer the Tilt in the near future. Why is this rant important to this forum?
What are you talking about denco? This is not even a rant, it is a statement. I did not mean for it to be a rant and I did not mean for people to mistake it as one. I merely meant to inform people that only the branded HTC devices got the update. It appeared as though alot of people had not realized this, or, at least enough for me to post. I can even show you some quotes if you need me too.
Denco, please look up the definition of 'rant'.
htc rom
Just talked to HTC. There is no 6.1 rom from them for the HTC phones (mine is the TYTN II) available anywhere on the globe.

I am not trying to entice the argument here, but i will add couple of things:
a) Most of the "regular" members here at xda already know that the tilt or any other branded version of the tytnII will not be getting the updates. (emphasis on regular).
b) none of the xda members really care about official updates as we have very gifted and talented chefs here that can port roms for us (and we are truly greatful for that) and seeing that the only diffrence between the TytnII and tilt is the front camera that shouldn't be a big deal.
c) drivers (which there aren't none) can also be ported. There are chefs already working on porting the diamond drivers over to tilt which runs vga.
Having said that i would like to thank you for the info ... but unfortunately its old news and no one likes repeatedly hearing old news.

LOL, nice call on NASIOC...as well as EvoM
The thing that puzzles me about this is the way the AT&T Tilt gets singled out as if it's special - in reality it's just one dozens of rebranded Kaisers around the globe, none of which have had an official update. I have a "Vodafone V1615", am I whining about where to download a Vodafone update for my Vodafone V1615? No, of course not, with the help of this forum it's been running the original HTC rom since October, and upgraded to the HTC 6.1 update a couple of days ago (before it was released by HTC in fact). So what's the problem?
The irony is the AT&T Tilt is (I believe) the only variant to have it's own section of the HTC website, and to actually have already had a rom upgrade back in February, albeit 6.0 only. Where are all the complaints about that from owners of the V1615, or the T-Mobile Vario 3, or the Orange Tytn II, or O2 XDA Stellar, or the "3" Tytn II, etc etc..?

Windows Mobile 6.1 - Tilt

hey guys, anyone know where / when the 6.1 software will be available for the Tilt?
I was told in the month of July, however I have visited the htc site and no 6.1 update is available, any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Chris
I read this morning on another forum that someone had talked to an Att rep and its looking like mid August. Not sure of the validity of it though
there are alot of great 6.1 options here. look around you may find out that they are better than "official" roms.

All of the WM6.1 roms for AT&T are leaked/pre-released/testing version. AT&T hasn't released its Official WM6.1 as of yet. No one really seems to know for sure (AT&T included) as to when they will ship out their 6.1 rom. I've heard July (which has passed), August, and September, as well as the cynical "Never".
Your best way of knowing is that it'll most likely be a few months after everyone else has done it and moved on.
edit: Just to add some more hearsay, check out the AT&T forum here. Some say AT&T is preparing their support staff for 6.1 questions. If true, then it's a positive note. But once again, this is all hearsay till there's an official note from AT&T. And even then it's not set in stone.
Ok XDA, step up!
LOL...come on you guys, there are confirmed reports that the "official" at&t roms have been spotted in the tilt. You mean you guys haven't been able to find one
to hack into yet? LOL....
Just kidding. After the "official" tilt rom comes out, I'll think if I want that or one of the cooked ones. I don't know if I want to bother with a cooked one. If my phone goes down, I'm screwed. I use pocket word, outlook, excel, acrobat dozens of times a day. I go through screen protectors (I use the old style palm transcriber) about once a month or more.
Seriously...keep up the work you cookers!
Dont Know
I spoke to ATT CS regarding same last week. She told me that , Its available with ATT but she is not sure when we will get it. Other thing she told me was to check the windows update in the phone, whenever they wil make it official for upgrade we can get upgrade via windows update.
I dont know if any other reason is there, but hope to get it ASAP, and looking forward to explorer 6.1
Cheers!

Whats really funny about this is that my local ATT Store now has signs next to the Tilt saying "Now Loaded with WM 6.1" or something like that, listing the threaded texting and other benefits. I asked the rep what the deal was and he said it would be available shortly, so I asked why the sign was out now and he said because they were told to put them out.

To date MS has done nothing with the update function.
WM6.1 will require a complete ROM replacement and there is no way they can do this via an update downloaded to the phone. Like the other ROM update from earlier this year, when this is officially available it will be posted for download on HTC's site and will need to performed from a connected PC.

Yes, i have talked to the people from HTC, and when it is ready which 'should be soon' then go to www.htc.com -> pick your country -> support -> choose your phone -> updates
Its out on the UK O2 site, just found it. Now if I install it I will have to re install all my apps and stuff again wont I ?
Any way I can make a complete back up of my phone and the apps as is , so I can go back to my 'working ' set up if I come up with problems ?
Thanks

neither of these links go anywhere
I was at a blog this morning and it was stated there that the ROM was at the HTC.com site stated above. As everyone knows, it is not there now. Although one of the comments on the page states the following that I found interesting: "HTC had the ROM upgrade available breifly. Then they removed the upgrade but left the page declaring that 6.1 was available. Now the page that was declaring WM6.1 is gone and refers to the WM6.0 rom from February. A few people had success in getting the 6.1 ROM image." Whether or not this is true can not be determined, but at least it gives me hope that it may be released soon (although we have seen this happen many times in the past).
My source for this info: http://blogs.msdn.com/jasonlan/arch...-6-1-upgrade-for-at-t-tilt-now-available.aspx
if anyone downloaded it, I can't figure out why it hasn't made its way over here somewhere. From the looks of the post count on the at&t forum site, there are 2,352,465.5 people waiting for it LOL.

Unfortunately I was told the same thing ("about a month or two") about 6 months ago.
HTC support is very disorganized, and even to get that out of them I had to go through about 5 different people, who all spoke very broken English.
I will not be buying another HTC product; ever.

frankly .ur reply made me sick.
do u mean u a going to buy another brand who hires good english speaking workers?
after all htc is the brand from taiwan. they speak chinese.
Depending on which departments he was at broken english might not be a good thing. Their offices in Taiwan yes broken english is understandable. But their main customer support line should have a few people if not everyone who can speak english decently. Europe and the North American region have a fair ammount of people purchasing their devices who speak english in one of its flavors.
I think that the language issue hit more upon that user due to the lack of informative people he kept getting transferred to time after time.
(At least I hope that's all it is )

ur = you are? or did you mean you're? your perhaps?
If I spend a large sum of money on a cell phone, with a warranty, I expect the company to honour it. Being given the run around by people reading off screens with no follow-up is bad customer service. Them not being able to speak passable English is also annoying. Nothing sick or inappropriate about that one champ. If another brand offers me better support, and cares after the customers after the purchase, I will (and did) go that route.
Also, in Taiwan they speak both Chinese and Taiwanese. I visited almost a year ago with some of my co-workers. Just an FYI, bud.

Unfortunately I was told the same thing ("about a month or two") about 6 months ago.
HTC support is very disorganized, and even to get that out of them I had to go through about 5 different people, who all spoke very broken English.
I will not be buying another HTC product; ever.

yeah, don't trust the date
I was cheated once and now I won't believe any rom release dates anymore until it is actually released on their site
Email from HTC Support:
"Good Day Thank you for your inquiry about the HTC S 730. Currently there are only plans to upgrade the following devices to Windows Mobile 6.1: HTC TyTN II (Already Available) HTC Touch Cruise HTC S730 There are currently no plans to supply this update for any other handsets. When the update is available it will be in the Support section on www.htc.com under Downloads. Please not that the download is only available for HTC branded handsets, i.e. handsets that are not from a network provider such as Orange, T-Mobile, O2 etc... Funny. I was given the exact same reply yesterday.
Only thing that bothers me is that the upgrade for the TyTNII has been released some time ago (correct me if I'm wrong) and the upgrade for the Touch Cruise has also been released several weeks ago. They don't mention the upgrade for the Touch Dual which has also recently seen daylight. So I hope they know what they are talking about. Anyway it gives some hope though.
I doubt it'll be any better than Alcaline's excellent version.
The cooked are crap only the SMS chat owns
Official new ROM out
So, the update file is finally posted on the HTC web site.
I installed, and it seems to run fine, but too early to give a final opinion. Memory management 'feels' better.
BTW: Where in the version numbers does one see it's really 6.1? And is there a list out there of improvements over 6.0?
Hi Hfrank,
version number: start -> settings -> about -> in top of screen.
Is there an sms-chat in the update?
"About" only shows: Windows Mobile 6 Standard
CE OS 5.2.1622 (Build 18128.0.4.4) - so not easy for someone like me to see the exact version (if I didn't know better I'd think OS 5.2 means WM 5.2, not 6.0 or 6.1 .
"Is there an sms-chat in the update?"
Haven't found one yet.
The more I think about it, it seems this is a bugfix update, but not update to 6.1...?
Hi
There isn't coming any 6.1 update for this phone. On the swedish site www.mobil.se there was a couple of weeks ago a chat with Christer Högström from HTC.
I asked him when the 6.1 update was to be released and the answer in swedish was:
"Det var planerat att uppgrader S730 till Wm6.1 men med den minnes kapasitet som finns på produkten blev det lite svårt att ge kunden en bra upplevelse. Där emot kommer vi med en Standard uppdatering till S730 om ca 2 veckor som förbättrar radio stabiliteten."
Quick translation: It was planed to upgrade s730 to WM 6.1 but with the memory capacity on the product it became hard to give the user a decent user experience. But we will come with a standard update that will improve radio stability.
Heres is the chat: http://www.mobil.se/ArticlePages/200810/28/20081028094638_MOB813/20081028094638_MOB813.dbp.asp
Sorry guys!
