E-Mail from HTC europe - HTC Breeze

i received this e-mail this weekend in regards to my breeze always dropping calls. it refers to a new update but only via the support centre
Good Morning,
?
The fact that your calls drops is?not normal, if it does that you should try
to Hard reset the device.
If the hard reset doesn't sort the issue you will need to send the phone to
repair.
Note: hard reset will delete all data from the device, you need to save your
personnal files and synchronize your device first.
I can confirm we have recently released a new ROM update for the Mteor.
?
Due to the complex nature of this ROM update we will not be offering this
download via our website. Instead we are offering it through our network of
repair centres.

From the information you have provided your local repair centre are:

does anyone know what the turn around time from being received to being sent out from HTC is?
in regards to a software update and a repair/replacement which would include any tests they'ed need to do.
thanks

HI, just try to deactivate the Umts Bandselection... means don't choose Auto .... just try GSM only....
i have Problems to when have activated the AUTO feature...
steve

i have done, thought it fixed it for a whole day aswell, however it seems to make it happen less but it still happens a few times a day

well got the phone back, they actually replaced it so got a new 1 out of the mix and the fact i bought it off ebay second hand - bonus!
the dropping of calls still occurs but it seems its the 3G orange payg sim i have. i will try and get a new one out of orange on saturday and see if that works, i know its the sim as i tried a orange 2G payg sim and it has no problems whatsoever
so its oranges fault and HTC's for not making it work correctly with the sim.
Dan

No new rom on it then? ;p

the rom had a .3 at the end of it instead of .1
the radio was the same too.

My MTeoR arrived today. I also have a "3G sim" or whatever they are.. the one that came with my Nokia N95. That same sim has worked perfectly in my E50 for the past three months, but in the MTeoR I am frequently being disconnected during calls, and even when the phone is off-call, the display changed from "3G Orange" to "No Service" quite frequently.
This is no good

wow, i know it doesn't help its nice to know its not just me breaking the phone like i seem to do to everything electrical
by the way t-mobile, vodafone sims i have work fine in 3g mode, its obviously a orange problem. i have e-mailed them again asking if its a common problem. all i can say is you do the same and maybe our collective voices will be heard.

No-one one here experienced the 3G bug then?

This is a problem where you have an apparently good 3G signal BUT you cannot make or receive calls or texts and you can't establish a data connection. There is no obvious sign that you are in this state until you try to call, text or access data.
The "solution" from T-Mobile in the UK is to force the phone "band" setting from Auto to GSM, then it works. But of course its not a solution as you lose 3G.
If you are at work with a 3 icon on your phone, just try calling it from your desk and see if you get straight to voicemail or not.
After discussions with T-Mobile they are sending me a replacement handset but if the postings in Modaco are anything to go by then I am not alone in this.
What is not clear is whether this is restricted to:
1. The T-Mobile UK network
2. The T-Mobile UK Vario III firmware
3. A combination of the above
4. A general design fault with some Kaiser's
This is being discussed in the Modaco forums but I couldn't find any mention here.
I make dozens of calls, and send around 50+ SMS a day.
No problems in the last month.
I am an Australian Kaiser owner running on the Three network.
ROM: 1.81.861.0 WWE
Hi there,
I have the same issue on T-Mobile in Germany.
What I have not been able to figure out is if the phone works again after a while or if one needs to reset (as I always do).
Regards,
Martin
I have tried soft resets and even a hard reset and it appears to be random whether it starts working again. This seems to be same experience as the Modaco users.

Well, I worked for T-Mobile UK recently and had the very same issue on my Vario II, even whilst at work where there was a large mast and the 3G coverage was the strongest in the country.
on further investigation, everyone else in the area had the same issue. sometimes it would work ok, a lot of the time i had to manually set to 2G just to be able to use the phone functions.
in T-Mob we could check the strength of various 2 & 3G signals by postcode, and the signal in the area was very strong, with no outstanding work issues or problems (according to our system)
was never able to figure out why this was happening, and nobody was able to answer the questions.
so -
seems to be T-Mob UK (perhaps just in various areas at various times), and is not limited to your Kaiser / Vario, so at least you can relax cos it's not a faulty phone
Thanks for the very useful post. Unfortunately that doesn't give us a solution. If this cannot be fixed then T-Mobile is useless for me.

i've been experiencing the same - no data access when using 3g (whilst showing 2 bars) but connecting fine using gsm.
can anyone point me in the direction of a replacement comm manager with the same icons as the default kaiser but with a 3g switch in the vacant slot ?
i've been looking at a few replacement comm managers but can't seem to find what i'm looking for ...
This is NOT a problem with your Kaiser, replacing your phone will not make a difference. It is problem with your provider's tower hard/software. Strange that T-Mobile has not told you this when you contacted them about it.
T-Mobile in the Netherlands does not have this problem, but the KPN network does. KPN is however in the process of replacing the faulty hardware (or maybe they are already done now, even) and suddenly the problem disappears
Found the solution!!
Hello,
I had the same problem untill one day I inserted my sim card in another phone (a very old nokia - as basic as it gets).
For some reason that I don't know, when I put the sim card back in the TyTN II it was working and keeps on working.
This has happened over a month ago, and I now don't hv a problem.
Try to do the same, see if it works for You
Regards
XTP
Nope, I already tried the SIM in another phone (an SE W880i) and it was okay. I put it back in the Vario III and it still didn't work.
I also tried soft and hard resets.

i can confirm that this didn't work for me either. :-(
worth a try though ...
I had this with a Hermes on Orange UK a year ago. They admitted that the local cell was faulty and was being fixed and asked me to go to GSM for a week. After a week I switched back and it was fine.
Am now using a Kaiser (O Tytn2) in same location and its fine.
well i know ive been having problems sending mms whenever im on the 3g network, but as soon as i switch to gsm then the mms sends fine!

This is correct, the problem is indeed not your Tytn II. I've called with a dutch provider (Telfort) which makes use of the KPN network. And it is technically not possible. So we must wait till the provider makes sure this is possible.
I also was surprised that they never told me this in advance. Actually they didn't knew it was an problem till I called them.
Er, exactly what "is not possible"?
3G to 2G switching works fine on my other phone (an HSDPA-enabled Nokia 6120 Classic, on the same network).
So how can this not be handset related? I can see how it could be a combination of the phone and the network but if other handsets can cope then it must be related to the handset in some way.
Incidentally I am now using my replacement Vario III and so far so good but its early days yet.

which ROM versions are experiencing this problem?
I get this in the UK on a Tuesday at around 16:00 and then all is ok after 17:00. If I turn off HSDPA then this does not happen at all.
My view is the T-Mobile network. Being as I know when it happens its not a problem but I think they have time slots for software upgrades etc to the HSDPA side of things and this is when your phone goes into a GSM lockout.
If I keep the phone on 2g then it never happens .
This also happened on my N95 on the same day at the same time also , so i would guess its a network thing
I had this occur again this morning, on the new handset. I tried to call home with a full set of bars and the phone in 3G - the call wouldn't go through.
Switched to 2G, call goes through.
The problem is that when you are in this mode there is no way to tell, without trying to make a call. Your phone is effectively useless as no-one can call or text you and you can't call out. You are blissfully unaware.
This is not an acceptable situation.

I have suddenly started to experience this problem on T-Mobile UK, starting last night. It finds a 3G network, but I cannot receive or send calls or SMS. If the network drops to 2G, I can generally receive texts, but it's only if I lower my band to GSM only that I can make or receive calls, or use data.
T-Mobile are generally crappy in my area anyway, my phone is forever flipping between 2 and 3G. Can anyone confirm what 3's coverage is like in south london (stockwell area if possible) and what sort of data/call packages you can get sim-only, as I fear that they may not work out as cheap as T-mobile's.
incidentally, I don't think it's an MDA vario problem as I'm running the TyTn II.

Sudden 3G Network Problem on a Kaiser

My TyTN II developed a strange problem during the last week. It’s all started one morning when I suddenly discovered that I can’t make a call. Every call that I tried to place ended by itself even before I hared a first deal tone. I’ve made a soft reset and the phone took unusually long to find a local network (Orange). I call the network operator and was told that in my area they don’t have any problems. After some more trials I’ve made a hard reset. Reinstalled my software and it seamed to work out. But about three days later the problem returned and in addition to it the TyTN eat up almost fully charged battery over night (just once, it didn't happen again).
I couldn’t place a call again, but this time a hard reset didn’t help. What helped is that I changed the network type from “Auto” to a GSM. That means that I have excluded 3G WCDMA service.
Now, at least during the last two days, the Kaiser phone is working, but without 3G. I visited the local technical center (they are not specialized in HTC phones) and they told me that they can’t see anything particular wrong with the phone, but they are not a specialized HTC service center. So, what’s wrong with it? During the last 3 months I had 3G services without a problem. Sending the phone to a specialized HTC center (abroad) may be costly and they also may not find anything wrong with it, because phone if set back to the Auto mode sometimes even finds the 3G network.
Did somebody have a similar problem? Please help. What it could be? Problem with the phone? May be the SIM? Or just the Orange service network got crazy?
I have an original ROM:
ver. 1.56.405.5 (08/28/07),
Radio 1.27.12.11,
Protocol 22.45.88.07H
Hi there,
I had exactly the same problem. I first thought it might be with my sim card but it worked fine on other phones.
I have since sent the phone to HTC and had it repaired -- works fine now.
Hope this helps.
I had the same problem on my Kaiser when it first arrived from an ebay sale. Worked fine in GSM/Edge mode, but would not make or receive calls in 3G mode at all. Finally sent it back to HTC in the US who repaired it at no cost (thanks guys!) and shipped it back to me.
It's been working fine since then.
I read lots of others who have had this problem and the fix seems to be returning to HTC for repair.
/drt
I had this problem and still have. I send my phone back 4 times. First time something went wrong. 2nd time it got a motherboard replacement (for the 3G chip) it work even better then when I bought. It lasted for 14 days untill the 3G failed again. I send it back got and Worked for 1 day again re-send it they called me said it's working fine with them (3G options) and they can't find any problems with it. I received the phone back. Worked for 1 day again on 3G then again the problem. I have checked with my provider no problem. Tried other sim cards issue is still there. I'm keeping it here till the Xperia gets out then I'm sending it back untill the 3G issue gets fixed.
No matter what issue this phone has, it's the best on the market imo, that's why I keep up with it.

My TyTN II does not work in 3G

One month ago I bought an unlocked TyTN II to be used with my current number from AT&T.
The phone worked to an acceptable quasi-average performance in the US (NorthWest and NorthEast). Few days ago I traveled to Miami, Florida and the phone lost contact with the AT&T network.
Later I find your Forum where I could find a partial solution. After several trials and errors I installed the following HTC ROM version 3.28.405.0 WWE (Radio Version 1.66.17.56 and Protocol Version 25.83.40.02H)
This particular ROM worked in my phone because you can select the Network Band (the AT&T versions do not have this option): here I manually selected the band GSM avoiding the phone to automatically switch to 3G. For some reason any of all the ROM versions in this phone loss the Network connection when it goes to 3G . Only the ROM versions from HTC has a software piece that allows forcing the manual selection of the GSM band.
Of course, this is not “the solution” because I would like to use this phone with 3G and more.
Anyone has had this problem and found any solution?
There is a well-known problem of early Kaisers having a hardware defect and the 3G radio dying. Mine was included in the lot. Return to service was required and the mainboard had to be exchanged under warranty if still valid, which was usually the case as it happened relatively early in the product's life. Reports of it are getting rare now as most of the faulty ones have been fixed, and newer ones were corrected.
I don't have the link to the thread collecting most of us doomed users anymore, but could try digging it. Search might help you.
The common fault was that in 3G mode the device would show network bars, but would not be reachable when called, and when trying to call it would just drop.
HTC-US Resolved my Problem
I owned this information to this forum:
After many workarounds and trials/errors, I called to HTC-US explaining my problem with my TyTN II.
They worked in following way:
1. I sent them, to my cost, the phone (they asked to send only the phone without battery, back cover and SIM)
2. They took in deposit the information of my credit card just in case they needed to use it for a payment if the repair is out of the warranty. If this were the case they would inform me the amount and I had to decide to make the repair and pay the charge or not to make it.
They told me that they had to change the phone main board: I believe that everyone who has a similar problem like mine (bad or not connection to the 3G network and sluggish touch screen) should contact HTC-US to Customer Care Department, 1-888-617-1113, M-F 9AM - 6PM EST.
In my case the phone was in warranty (although I flashed the Hard SPL in the phone, but the hardware was untouched). Therefore, I had to pay…zero. And they returned my phone in just 4 business days.
My phone is working very good, always connected showing an H indicating the use of a HSDPA network.
The cost of the solution was $ 20 by the FedEx service to send them the phone. Good deal.

Loosing network signal

Hi!
After weeks of flawless function my Xperia can not find my carriers phone network.
I have updated the phone to the new ROM but that does not help.
The phone finds the SIM card and asks for the code.
Strangly it can connect to internet through my carrier (Tele2).
But I can not get a connection to the phone network and make a normal phone call.
Is something wrong with the phone?
NO, cause with another carrier (Telenor) everything works pefect.
Then obviously something is wrong with my carrier (Tele2) or the SIM-card.
NO, cause when I put my Tele2 SIM-card in another device (Ipaq 6515) it works perfect.
The Ipaq is not a 3G-phone. Can that have anything to do with it?
I'm getting lost here, all help is appreciated.
(ORIGINAL MESSAGE
Hi!
After weeks of flawless function my Xperia has started to lose it's phone network.
I notice it after I wake my phone up from stand by mode.
It doesn't help to turn the phone option off and on in Comm manager, but it has sometimes helped turning flight mode on and off.
Other times I had to restart the phone.
This happens a couple of times every day, after long times of not using the phone. I have not been able to trigger this problem, so I don't know what causes it or exactly when it happens.
Strangly it can connect to HDSPA while it has lost the phone network.
I have also experienced som freezes when I'm flipping between the panels to much.
All help is appreciated, thanks.
It would be helpful if you could give us more information.
What ROM are you using
Which carrier you have
etc.

I'm using:
ROM 1.02.936.3
Radioversion 1.06.25.29
The carrier is Swedish Tele2.
In Sweden we have GSM-900 and GSM-1800.
Tele2 also provide me with UMTS and HSDPA.
Today the problem became worse.
Even after repeated soft restarts it refused to find the phone network.
Then I change SIM-card to another carrier and it found the network.
I also tried the SIM-card that's giving me problems in another device. Works fine.
So both SIM-cards works. I'm now gonna go with the new carrier during the day to see if the problem come back.
If anyone have any ideas, please help.

All I can say that Xperia sometimes looks for the signal a bit longer it should IMO,
but I also know that carriers have many many problems usually and they're also often responsible for signal drops in some places too.
I know that 'cos I was talking to my carrier many times about it and learned something about it...
have u tried hard resetting the phone or re-installing the software? ..
if u run the sony update software it will give u the option to re-install your phones software - not sure if that has the same effect as a hard reset ..
probably worth trying

Have you tried disabling 3G/HSDPA?
Chance that you have very poor 3G on your phone, whilst the IPAC is picking up ok 2G.

Thanks for replying.
I disabled HSDPA/HSUPA in the advanced network menu. But it didn't help.
I also tried to choose GSM only in the phone seetings menue. But I could not even change the setting. Just got an error message about not being able to change the network (or something similar).
Is there any other setting that might be worth trying?

Having worked for several phone companies a few years at customer service I know what the procedure is.
-First thing they do is ask you to do a "crosstest", try your SIM in another phone and see if that works.
-You'll tell them that you did that and everything works fine when you use another phone.
-They'll automatically conclude that there's something wrong with your phone (correctly)
-They'll ask you if you could do a hard reset ( You did that too)
-Then maybe they'll try and reset the network (which almost never works)
Basically they'll have no other choice then for you to return it and have them look at the problem / replace your phone.
I don't think we here can help you with your problem
Good luck and keep us posted
Get a new SIM card. I've seen problems like this before, and an updated SIM card solved it.
The best way would be to test your SIM card in a similar phone, the ipaq not being close because it's not even 3G.

I'm so confused right now.
Got my new sim card today, problem remains.
I call the carrier support and after they've looked the IMEI-number up they say that the phone is barred by an external operator. They won't tell me the reason and by what operator.
So I call the other carriers support and after they've done a IMEI-search they say that the phone is not locked in any way, by them or any other operator. After have been talking to Xperia support they come to the same conclusion. The phone is not locked but agree to that something is wrong, with phone or carriers, and they want me to try with a third carrier.
Final
I've handed in my phone to the seller and got another one back instead.
The end
Exact same problem
Howdy folks,
I have the exact same problem: My Xperia has worked fine for a month. Suddenly I can't register with Tele2 network (tried another Tele2 card as well that didn't work) for calling but have access to data channel so I can surf. Got told by the Tele2 support that my phone was fu**ed up. Got pissed off. Tried a sim for another provider (Telenor) that worked. Called the Tele2 support again. They noticed that I have an old (2g) sim, so they will send a new (3g) card to test if that fixes this mess. It should arrive late this week or early the next. Can't wait...
I'll keep you posted in this thread (or, if I should instead have made a new thread, a moderator may spank me and I will do better).

Nope, new sim-card didn't fix it. But I have found at least one other xperia-user with this problem...

is the phone damaged?? or...

My phone does the same thing
My x1 has had no problem with phone function or network. However, from the last week, the signal began to be lost sometimes, and the machine turned off automatically. and finally today, there is no signal at all.
MY SIM card works with other phones, so, I thought it might be software problem, and hard reseted with new rom. However, still no signal. It keeps looking. Does anyone have the same problem, and hopefully, solution?
I´m using my X1i with Tele2 as my service provider, but i don´t have any problems with signalstrength.. Works just fine..

I know I should've introdouced myself first, and that this is a strange first post, but:
HOLY SMOKES!!!
Xperia has FIVE reception bars????!!!!!
I always thought that 3 is the max value, since it only happened once that it went up to three bars, rest of the time it's maximum 2, usually 1.
I am also on Tele2 carrier, in Sweden that is, and since yesterday, I have no reception AT ALL.
Nothing.
Tried turning off 3G(or whatever it's called), nothing happens.
Tested with 3 other cards (one Tele2, one Telenor, one Telia) - all seem to be working okay. Except that the Tele2 one has slightly lower reception than the others.
Tested with 3 other phones as well - iPhone 3GS, Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, HTC Desire. All of them worked perfectly. Full coverage on that super-fast network thingy(the 3G symbol on iPhone).
Internet is just flowing on other phones - but Xperia is just falling behind in the most important section - reception.
Calls get dropped (2/3 of the calls), I must send same message at least 3 times in order to get it sent, Internet is crappy - if there's any at all.
Any kind of guidance is mostly appreciated.
P.S. A bit of those numbers which seem to be important:
Microsoft Windows MobileR 6.1 Professional
CE-OS 5.2.19608 (Build 19608.1.2.60)
ROM-version: 1.05.936.9
ROM-date: 04/19/09
Radioversion: 1.14.25.55

Since all of you seem to have problems with one and the same carrier (Tele2) why don't you simply switch to another one? I once had a problem that was very alike the one described here and after several unsuccessful attempts of the carrier to fix it I simply switched to another one and all my problems were gone.

3g not working...

Hello all!
Just to start things of, I have read trough the forum and I've googled around alot about this but it doesn't look like anyne has ever posted what worked to fix this.
If there's someone that has sent in their kaiser to have the mb replaced could you please send me some sort of email where they state it is a factory problem? the warranty is out and I really don't want to pay for a new mb on this 2 year old phone.
I've tried several different radios and none of them work, currently using wm6.1 downloaded from htc.com.
Problem is as the topic states it doesn't work in 3g. As it tries to connect to the 3g network it just searches, but never connects.
Some of the threads I've read says that the ppl get it working sometimes, but for me it never happens.
I have got a working 3g simcard, and I've tried the card in another telephone and there it workds perfectly.
The phone is a HTC Tytn II
Anyone that can help me? thanks
It still just sounds like a radio problem. Have you tried the whole list of radios? Trying "several" might not be enough. As long as you have hardSPL'd your device there's no harm in trying the whole list of radios from here, starting with newest first and working your way up the list.
I'll try them all.. back in an hour .
There.. tried them all.
It connects to a 3g network, then when I try to make a phonecall or data session it just disconnects.
the closest I got was with the neon 1.58.25.17 where it was still connected even after the failed phonecall. It just beeps a couple of time and then it says I'm not connected to any network.
Just a little thought...
I've read that wcdma here in europe is at 2100 / 900.. but in my phone I can only choose between UMTS 2100, 1900+850 and 2100 + 800.
No I'm just dumb sorry..
Why not get it checked out professionally?
Maybe it's a damaged tracer inside the antenna sticker. It shouldn't cost much to get an HTC service centre to access what's wrong (although if it does require a new motherboard and they don't cover it under warranty, it'll probably be uneconomic to repair. Make sure it's fully reverted to a from the factory state (no hardSPL and original ROM/Radio/SPL) before taking it in though.
Well, that is the next logic step.
As I said in my first post, I have read on other forums aswell as this where people have had problem with this exact same thing and if anyone of them had it fixed with software I'd like to know.
You could buy a broken one on ebay for parts and just swap out that motherboard for your own instead of sending it to HTC. Its fairly straightforward to replace it.

If you've restored it back to an as from the factory state (with all original ROM/Radio and SPL) and it's no longer behaving as it did when it was new (test with the memory card removed) then that proves the difference must be due to hardware changes/failures if you test it in areas where there's known good 3G coverage and the same sim gets good 3G coverage in another phone. If you haven't done this yet, I'd suggest you do (you didn't say if you changed back from hardSPL to OEM, it shouldn't make a difference but at least you'll know it's 100 % original). Preferably test it with an HTC WM 6.0 ROM/Radio/SPL. If that doesn't make a difference, before rushing out and spending money on motherboards etc, get it checked out by an HTC professional - the small cost of such testing may save you more money in the long run on parts that aren't actually needed. A work-around that's been used to get reception (although not in 3G) is to change the band just to GSM from Auto.
Good luck finding someone who's been through your exact scenario but this is something you can do in the mean time.
Hi ldjocke, I live in Italy and my Kaiser works fine with 3G (checked with Vodafone, TIM and 3 operators...)
Looking at band selection in phone settings, I can found:
Auto
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
Choosing Auto it succesfully connects...
In Italy GSM uses 900 and 1800 and UMTS uses 2100...
Where do you live?
Hello Ppelleg.
I'm in sweden, and got thesame settings as you on my phone.
Afther reading through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335074 I'm confident that it's a hardware issue. Sending it in and will be back with information.
Just wanted to close this thread.. I sent it in for repair and as everyone said in the thread that I linked to in an earlier post it was the 3gcircuit that was burned.
But.. the price it cost me to fix it is the same as buying a brand new HTC HD2 (6880sek) and that's just not right.
Still looking for anyone that has gotten it in written from htc that the tytn had a couple of faulty boards. There should be some way around this massive amount..

What did the the HTC repair centre had caused the board to fail? What did they say when you questioned them about having heard of such an issue with older models of the phone? If the price was going to be astronomical, they should have contacted you to get the go-ahead first (unless you'd given them authority to go ahead no matter what the cost).
Some points to put to them.
