Palm Posts Audio Fix for AT&T - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

Just a quote:
The update is designed to address a long-standing complaint some users have had where system resources become occupied with too many simultaneous tasks and certain audio alerts and notifcations are muted.
Palm also states that a residual effect of the bug is that the camera/camcorder function of the 750 can also cease to function.
The .cab file is a ~60k download and can be found on Palm's support site. Please note that a miniSD formatted in the FAT32 file system is required for loading the update. The update is also only for AT&T and Cingular-branded version of the 750, so this update is not applicable to European 750 or 750v Treos.

It was said that the Treo 750 (the unlocked version) doesn't need this update. But it suffers from nearly similar problem - when the battery level reaches 20% or little less, the audio system is muted.
I asked the Palm support for an update for unlocked Treo. It is not available. But he said that their engineering works on solving this and other problems and there will be an upgrade very soon (but no dates - Palm, you know...)...

It does sounds odd to me to release this patch if the WM6 release is to be release soon... does that mean that we might have to wait longer for the WM6 release???

No, but there ARE people which don't want to update to WM6. I can't wait to get WM6 though ;-)

I can't wait for WM6 also, this is the only reason I didn't switch my 750v with a Trinity yet.
Concerning this patch, I hardly believe that at this level of development there are many differences. But Palm must have had his reasons not to create a general patch

I'd rather have a fix for the SD card problems. Sure be nice to utilize my 2gb memory card.

Can anyone oblige / test ?

Prelimanary test are good. I'm guessing the patch is exactly the same as the one posted for the Pda2k from Imate, it is build 3500. SO far no issue with my sony hbh-660 headset and no issues yet with my TomTom Navigator USA bluetooth either. So for now, I am very pleased with the results, but I am going to give it one full day, especially with the headset before I can completely be satisifed. Adios.

Extraction
Anyway to extract the files from this setup?
Good question. I know it's a setup.exe pretty much that kicks off the install process via active synch, then seems to place the temp files in Flash memory, thus requiring the soft reset. Not sure there is a way to capture the files being written to temp space, but I am sure there is someone on this forum that can do it
If you run the installation without connecting your XDA, you will find the cab file in:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Bluetooth headset upgrade patch for Xda IIs
Interesting that with the first imate posted bt patch the 3500 version which was withdrawn, one file showed build 3000 all others 3500. this O2 patch makes all file versions 3500 so is a final release and later than the imate patch.
Imate say they have a new final patch coming soon which will prob be the same as o2, since these all come from htc.
Patch seems good so far.
3500 Patch seems to be good
Downloaded the 3500 patch yesterday and installed in my i-mate PDA2k, certainly seems to have fixed the main BT headset problems (Sony Ericsson HBH-20). Thanks to those who take the time to post these things. A good Christmas present.
not so good. again scrasheesssss into the headset.
Waiting for another patch
hey this is the same old patch that was released by QTEK 3 weeks ago so whats new in it. I have checked both the patches they are both the same, not even a single file differs. But as always O2 is the last to deliver patches. It is very slow in providing updates, all other operators have provided new rom updates butO2 is still waitng dont now for what.
THE LAST TO DELIVER PATCHES????
Imate didn't release this patch for almost 4 days after O2 and before they had a 3000 build release. Tell the Tmobile MDA people, Siemens SX66 and all the CDMA versions of the phone with crippled bluetooth who have had no "official" update.
Great that Qtech first and early but O2 were second when all the rest are still waiting.
ONLY qtech has released a full upgrade rom. No others have.
Of course the patch will be the same, its not the operator like Qtech or Imate that makes these things, its HTC.
Patch Not Working in SX66
I dl'ed the patch into my SX66, and was hoping - no PRAYING - that it would help the BT issues..
My Jabra 250 sounds just the same..damnit!! (grin!)
Any other ideas, folks?
BTW, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Well, needless to sat after further testing of the O2 xdaiis patch, I am still having issues with my Sony headset. I am connected for 4 hours and then all of the sudden the pairing just drops and I have to reconnect the headset which is very frustrating, so it sems this latest patch has some issues. NOt sure what to do now. I have already sent O2 support several e-mails with just a standard canned response, which is total BS
The Imate patch is way way better
Well I have tried the XDA IIs patch and I must say it sucks a.. The Imate patch which is a lower bluetooth stack build is way better. With the O2 patch the XDA IIs still randomly turns on. Garbage!!! Come on O2 release a new rom with media player 10 and a bluetooth fix.
Michael
No problems here...Motorola 850 works PERFECT. The official BT patch works great...must be either your headset or 3rd party software
Where...
can I get the imate patch...and is it the whole rom or just hte BT stack> Many thanks;' perhaps THAT will work in my SX66 and my son's O2
Guest, I have two XDA II's with a Motorola 820 bluetooth headset, and with all native apps installed and on the O2 bluetooth patch release it turns on randomly. It does not with the I mate patch so, the O2 release is garbage. Thats why Imate pulled they same bluetooth stack build that O2 released. There is issues with it.

Official O2 ROM Upgrade Info

I have just heard from the Data Support team at O2 (I work in o2 Retail) that there will be an official ROM update released on 1st March which will solve the bluetooth problems and several other issues. Thought it would be of interest to a lot of you!
Fantastic - only thing annoying me right now is the constant drop out of my bluetooth headset whilst driving etc.....well, that and a strange lock up the other night
Upgrade of XDA II
I hope this will enable voice dial as well!!
As listed before my headsets I've brought in from China work great with the XDA II and XDAIIs, but it's always a little annoying to not have voice dial function.
The drop out on the XDAIIs I think you will find is something to do with the power save mode on the bluetooth radio. If you have power save on the radio is shut off and the headset disconnects, although the screen shows the bluetooth radio in operation.
Don't suppose you Source mentioned whether this will be the one to include WMP10 as well?
O2 Tech supp have confirmed to me that this will be in a future ROm update but wouldn't say when
Fingers crossed eh!
Stupidly didn't ask about WMP10... I'm at work again tomorrow so I will try to obtain a definitive list of the enhancements the new ROM will bring.
see this thread

WIFI
Does any one know if the new upgrade will fix the wifi stack? I have rarely been able to connect to wifi networks and looks like many people on this board have the same problems.
Thanks
I had some info from then a while ago, I got the impression that WMP10 would not be included until April time.
When this new rum comes out on Mar 1st, we should start a thread listing the bugs we find in it, and then ship it off to O2. There were rumours of some wifi fixes, but who knows. At the end of the day, 95% of it comes from HTC, so it will likely be much like the updates to the Imate, Qtek etc devices.

O2 V1.11.171 Now Available

Just checked the o2 site and it seems this upgrade is now available, not tried it yet but will tonight
hi, which site are you downloading from?
www.my-xda.com
Any news on whether it is worth upgrading to the .171 ROM? Seems as though the radio is back to 1.00?

We are waiting for more info about the new rom!
Might be an anomoly but I tried the 171 ROM modified and my device has hard reset twice, with the original ROM the phone stopped working and needed a hard reset to sort it out, twice.
Think I'll keep to my 162 ROM. How's everyone else found it?
http://www.my-xda.com/xda2i_soft3.html
here's the direct link for 1.11.171 - just downloading and will let you know how I get on after discovering that 1.11.170 (blackberry)didn't work with radio version as supplied.
Hi!
When I have install it. It apeared the radio 1.100
So still old radio, not v1.104

that is correct. Radio 1.104 is not compatible with the Blackberry system. This is the main reason that ROM 1.11.170 was removed from the o2 website as it had upgraded the Radio version from 1.100 to 1.104.
Hi! I've just bought an O2XDAIIi. I just wonder which ROM version I should use to upgrade my XDA. Could anyone give me an advice?

I'm using Blackberry and have upgraded to the latest o2 ROM - 1.11.171. If you aren't using Blackberry, try using Pugs cooked version of 1.11.169.
Is there any change to Blackberry functionality on 71 over 69?
Won't be changing if there isn't.
I belive that if your using the o2email open and not the BES version you won;t lose your Calendar options.
We use BES so no need to change then - thanks
Well ROM version 1.11.171 seems to be as stable as 1.11.169 and I don't have to use the workaround to sync Outlook Calendar.
I wonder if o2 are going to release more XDA phones that can use Blackberry - I quiet fancy the o2 Atom but it doesn't list BB which is a shame.
171 ROM is the BT reliability resolved
Symbasean,
Stating that the 171 ROM is as stable as the 169 ROM is a little bit of a two edged sword for me.
When I applied the O2 ROM last October / November it trashed my bluetooth functionality, effectively making my Jabra 250V a large black ear ring and the XDA 11i an electronic chocolate tea pot, for use in a car.
Can you sense my frustration with O2, who offered me £10 off my next bill as compensation and then didn't give it to me.
I switched to one of PUG's home cooked ROMs and this has been 80% successful, but randomly fails to deliver the sound.
His version has been a saviour, but would the 171 be an improvement for the BT stability and reliability?
Sorry for the incredibly rambling first post. :?:
I upgraded to the new software last night and have noticed one small annoyance. I used to be able to to deactivate GPRS by clicking the connectivity icon in the title bar and tapping disconnect. Now the disconnect option isn't there for GPRS. Eventually I discovered that I could turn off GPRS by holding the end call button.

two points:-
1. please spell my name correctly.
2. "Well ROM version 1.11.171 seems" - note also the word, "Seems". I make no direct comparison on stablity, only that mine has not crashed - caveat empore......
Apologies
Symbaseian
Sorry for the mistake.
I shall try the ROM and see.
I have to agree caveat emptor is an appropriate warning with this particular device.
If it worked as well as it is should, straoight out of the box, it would be excellent.
But it does have some way to go, and without the likes of these forums, it would not happen.

I totally agree. When I first got one of these I couldn't use TT3 let alone TT5 without it locking up all the time if I used anything other than my old 128mb Compaq SD card, but having listened and learned on this forum and also on pocketgpsworld I now have a stable XDAIIi with blackberry.
It's taken a long time to get to where I'm fully happy with the device (except camera performance - but I very rarely use that anyway) often involving Tomtom tech support, o2 tech support and these forums. If you feel happy using Pugs ROM version without blackberry please go ahead, but for me that's not an option.
It's just a shame that we have had to co-develope to get a product that is finally starting to show everything that it first promised.....

When is CIngular supposed to release the AKU2/ADP2 ROM?

Does anyone know when Cingular or any other US carrier is supposed to release the new ROMs that support PUSH email?
cingular is said to be releasing it in the 2nd quarter of 06. the exact date is of course...unknown.
Well, cingular has usually SUCKED when it comes to supporting devices. They are only interested in selling new ones... and the marketing behind doing so. So I wouldent hold your breath. Do I sound bitter? :x
Later; Lew
The reason I ask is that my ISP is screwing me. I am having a problem getting DirectPush to work. And they are telling me that they will not support it until a US carrier releases a ROM to support it. What sucks even more is that 4smartphone works just great with PUSH but my other ISP wont even help.....

None yet, and Cingular has only commited to providing the AKU2 update for 2125/8125 "in 1H06", meaning sometime between now and June 30.
The HP 6900 *might* come out prior to then, which will have AKU preinstalled, but I don't know what carrier is picking up that device.
I'm suprised your ISP hasn't alredy isntalled Exchange SP2..it offers much more than just enabling push.

Just checking, since you didn't say, but you are using one of the AKU2 ROMs on your 8125, correct?
If so, something strange is afoot. Either your ISP really doesn't have SP2 on their front end servers, or they've gone and disabled push, which is enabled by deafult on SP2 install. I can't think of any reason to disable it, unless they plan to charge an additional fee for it or something.

How quickly things change.. A US carrier just released the AKU update. It was released by Sprint for their 6700.
It was just released and Sprint customers are having a heck of a time finding it online or finding stores that have received it. But it is officially available to Sprint business customers.
Read through this thread to follow the latest...

Now tell your ISP to get their ****e together. =)
Summit!!
Thanks your awesome... if only I could find something official on Sprints site.... all the links in that post were invalid....
@jocojr:
I'm betting the solution to your problem can be found in System Manager for your ISP's exchange server. They don't have the Direct Push checkbox checked in mobile settings. This checkbox is right under the one that enables SMS based AUTD 1.0.
I have found that I was unable to set up a direct push connection until I checked that. Once checked, I was unable to set up a SMS based connection btw.
Sleuth,
Thats what I think too, but without me seeing the settings its hard to know what they did..... But they swear everything is setup correctly.
Joe
Cingular has always been big on hype and short on follow through. Like lewcamino has said, I wouldn't hold my breath. It took them almost 5 months after the announced release date to get the 8125 out the door. Also look back to other false starts and half baked promises such as "blue"/"orange" network integration, Push to Talk, 3G, and various promised devices.
Personally I do not think they will put much energy behind DirectPush. IMHO, the bean counters probably figure all that data traffic will drag down their profits. They are content on selling overpriced text message packages, cheesey ringtones, and their new video service.
I am personally happy with the QTek ROM. In fact, my 8125 only had the official Cingular ROM for all of 20 minutes. That is how long it took for me to install ActiveSync and install the QTek Beta ROM. Last week I upgraded to the official AKU2 package. So far everything works perfectly.
I've also upgraded my 8125 to the K-Jam AKU 2.0 upgrade. The radio stack has worked much better than the stock rom as well. I think cingular will get around to providing the upgrade, as Sprint has recently done for their PPC-6700/HTC Apache but it might not be until early summer. Why wait for Cingular when you can use it now?

Official HTC ROM upgrade available.

Check this out, HTC today released an updated ROM for HTC S730!

This ROM only seems to fix one bug
"
Improved 3G network performance
Sometimes the network signal strength may show good reception but its not possible to call out or receive any phone calls.
"
Where is the official WM 6.1 upgrade?
Would be better if they had upgraded it to WM6.1, but at least they are showing some kind of support....
seems they have fixed a non existing problem. (if you would ask me)
How about memory problem? Video driver absense?
gr. Rob
same here. Never had this problem with any rom.
Disappointing.

Hi
There isn't coming any 6.1 update for this phone. On the swedish site www.mobil.se there was a couple of weeks ago a chat with Christer Högström from HTC.
I asked him when the 6.1 update was to be released and the answer in swedish was:
"Det var planerat att uppgrader S730 till Wm6.1 men med den minnes kapasitet som finns på produkten blev det lite svårt att ge kunden en bra upplevelse. Där emot kommer vi med en Standard uppdatering till S730 om ca 2 veckor som förbättrar radio stabiliteten."
Quick translation: It was planed to upgrade s730 to WM 6.1 but with the memory capacity on the product it became hard to give the user a decent user experience. But we will come with a standard update that will improve radio stability.
Heres is the chat: http://www.mobil.se/ArticlePages/200810/28/20081028094638_MOB813/20081028094638_MOB813.dbp.asp
Sorry guys!
Only radioversion changed?
Same experience with RAM here. Seems to me they only changed the radioversion and left the ROM unchanged.. Or am I wrong to expect the ROM version being changed when updated?
Seems like the battery-life however is a little extended as far as I can tell from a single day of light/medium usage.

@gnuda: thanks dude. A question obviusly comes out now: "why the memory capacity of S730 is so lacking?" and ofcourse, "why the same memory capacity for S710 is not so lacking?"

No update available on dutch HTC-site
Hi all,
There is still no sign of any Rom-update on the dutch HTC-site...
Maybe they are prepairing it, because the tabs on the site are changed recently..but besides that they only offer some fancy ringtones up till now.
My wings (S730) suffers from the described 3G-problem, is it save to use the UK-version and am i able to change the language/settings to dutch after updating?
My radioversion shows 1.58.17.02 now..
can anyone extract the radio so we could _at_least_ take the benefit of this crappy upgrade?

You can download the upgrade from the worldwide-website (or Europe) and when you've upgraded your device change the language back to Nederlands. Your radioversion will then be 1.60.43.19. It works for me (Dutch too).
Btw I recieved an email from HTC yesterday in which someone from HTC Europe mentioned that a 6.1 ROM upgrade should be available for downloading on the HTC-website that should solve the issue with my pda
Assuming one's talking about the RAM memory-leakage-issue that I emailed them about some time earlier this year, it's a bit of a strange email.
Probably they prefer to the radioversion upgrade which isn't solving the memory-leakage at all.
I'm still wondering what issue this upgrade should address.. afaik anyone in this room has ever suffered issue this update pretend to solve.
at least for me it gives much longer batterylife on 3g networks..
I don't know if that is what it was suppose to fix though :=)
Actually it did solve a lot of things for me. The main problem was that i could not receive/make calls whatsoever. I know due to Vodafone sms that i receive that i missed a call, but phone didnt register, and i couldnt make calls sometimes as well. As far i know it fixed the issue, also the battery life i would too think its better, but still needs to be checked further. Now if somebody could integrate new rom to WM 6.1 it would be awesome.

Thanks Nightcrow,
I've tried to download the update, no luck so far because "service unavailable temporarly due to maintenance" on both the Europe and the UK-site
Up to now i've missed a lot of calls due to very low signals on 3G, when i switch back to normal GSM-mode i always have full signal but of course my data connection is limited to GPRS then..
Edit: I just succeeded in downloading and upgrading..the whole weekend i was trying to, but it was a stupid mistake of me (i've included the extra D in my serialnumber, and it was not recognised..)
