Just called the HTC tech support.

Just called the HTC tech support.
I told them that I had a problem with playing video using Windows Media Player 10. The person on the phone said you could try updating your Windows Media Player 10 to Windows Media Player 11 (11 for mobile???). I told her that 11 is for computer and not mobile. Then she told me it could be a codec issue. I told her: I've downloaded Core Media Player with all the codecs but still have the problem. Then she asked me what type of files I tried to play. I said: WMV, MPG, MPEG, MP4, AVI. Then she putted me on hold to ask someone there if they knew something about the TyTN II video issue. After waiting for 2 mins she said: HTC does know about the video issue and there working on it. The drivers would be released in end of Januari/begin of Februari, she advised me to check the update page every day till the update is released. Meanwhile use a other third party software to play videos.
So actually HTC is working on the video drivers. If she tells me it's a update, I think the driver will be available as a cab file instead of new ROM. But what if it was a cab file?? What about the HTC cube then??? In a interview, a person from HTC told that the TyTN II will get a update wich includes the HTC cube :S
What ya think??
The funny thing about this is that I had to learn her instead of she learning me. HAHAHAH that's how good the HTC tech support is. HAHAHAHA
Do you think they will release a new driver? I think if they will release it they will reply to all who were trying to get the driver from them, and stop the bad publicity.
I dont know what to think anymore. HTC disappointed me alot. You buy a expensive mobile and they fool you..
We will wait and see..

If this is true, then it is brilliant news - but I don't think it's time to start celebrating until we have something more tangible than the word of a support rep!
I assume the topic starter called Dutch HTC support...
Maybe some people could call other countries HTC support and try to get this confirmed? Then at least we know what the hell is going on (save me the time of tinkering, save Olipro and cmonex the time, save 50 people the money, etc)

It wouldn't make me not-trust her. She is just some phone answering noob most likely, who doesn't really know a lot about the platform (just the standard question and replies) - as is very common for these support lines. Apparently she asked someone else (second ring support) and they probably told her "we're working on it, release begin februari" and she probably just combined this with her own 'knowledge' that you use CABs to install things.
That's how these things go at support lines
I hope you are right, and in february they will heal our toy.
Called swedish tech support.
At first when I stated that it doesn't play video properly he said "yeah but what do you want me to do about that?!".
Then he said I should return it for a new set at my reseller.
Then I said that I've seen numerous (hundereds if not thousands) of people having the same problem and I gave him the adress to the petitiononline site.
He put me on hold for quite a while and spoke to second teir support.
He said HTC are not generally aware of this problem and though they'vre heard some few reports it was too few to make it a high class priority. He said that he showed the petition to the support technician and that he was caught totally unaware.
I got to talk to the second technician and he understood the problem after a while.
He said that he would escalate the problem to high priority for Europes tech support and if they could indeed show in their own tests that the TyTN II performs considerably worse than previous or competing products they would work hard to get a fixed ROM out as soon as possible.
He also asked me to tell other people with the same problems to call their local support.
They really need support calls in order to escalate a problem report into high class priority.
So what are you waiting for, go make that call now!
Ignorant half-assed HTC customer service

Having had bitter experience with HTC support, I'm pretty confident that you shouldn't be getting your hopes up. You have to understand that these people, as a rule, want to get you off the phone to go on playing solitaire or browsing porn.
This means that they are ready and willing to tell you anything. In this case, they obviously know that there is a WM6.1 update coming up and they "sell" to you that it should miraculously solve any problems, including the "known video driver" problems which, btw, they've never heard of before in their life. They would say the same thing about any irrelevant upcoming updates. That's typical of the incompetent and half-assed manner they deal with their customers.
Remember, these are the same people who will, after 2 months (!?!) (I'm not exaggerating, this actually happened to me), answer "have you tried to hard reset your device?" to any f****** e-mail you send them, even when you have clearly stated in that e-mail that you have done a hard reset about 100 times. That's how much attention you can expect.
I sincerely hope that HTC goes down big time to make an example of how a company charging such high margins on its products and at the same time mocking its customers can never survive (and it really shouldn't).

They put me trought with the UK/Europe tech support.
A known person tell's there is going to be a update soon + A support worker tells me there is going to be a update soon (in Januari) + TMCP Player fixes a update what should fix the video (in Januari) = SOON NEW DRIVERS. Or all of them were fakes But don't think so. We need to spread this **** out fast, just like the guy who had problems with his DELL computer
You should have recorded the conversation. That way if they don't release the update, they can be in big trouble.

In the UK at least, recording phone calls is perfectly legal as long as you tell the other person you're recording them. Just FYI.

Yep, same here. Anyway, my phone has a very annoying beep every 10 seconds while recording calls, so the person WILL know you are doing it.
By the way, does the Kaiser record calls? That is one very useful features I kind of got used to.

Hmm... the more I know about Kaiser the more it looks like the phone part is just a bonus to the PDA instead of an integrating part of it.
It's really sad, because my phone also has 2 processors like the Kaiser, one for phone and one for PDA, and it works great for calls and stuff. The recorded conversations have really good quality. And you just need to press the recorder/voice dial button to start/stop recording.
Well, but I still rarely use my phone as a phone, so I don't think that's gonna be an issue.
Thanks for the info though.

News coverage on HTC driver issues, compiled list

UPDATE, Jan 20th 2008 - I've stopped updating this thread since it isn't getting much traffic. Most people are posting the latest news to the HTCCLassAction.org discussion thread.
It seems there are several threads going around with links to internet coverage on the HTC driver issue. I thought it best to put them all together in one thread, for reference and encouragement!
Feel free to post new articles in this thread, and I'll update this post.

"In diverse fora wordt melding gemaakt van het feit dat de videodrivers niet helemaal in orde lijken te zijn en dat de filmpjes schokkerig worden afgespeeld. Moon is niet bekend met het probleem. “Maar als het werkelijk zo is komt er uiteraard een update”, aldus Moons"
Quick translate: Different forums have discussions going on about the driver issue , but a spokesmen from htc says he is not know with this problem.
But if their appears to be a problem it will be fixed.
bump bump!
i've read that the tilt will be one of the first two phones to get the WM6.1 update. if so, this is probably an issue that will be fixed then.
still i LOVE that they are getting this abuse. i'm sick of these companies that respond to an avalanche of complaints with silence. they should at least give an indication of what they are going to do so consumers can make informed decisions.
Three sites that would be nice to have cover this are:

I've already emailed all three of them twice but no news yet. If someone else could fire off e-mails as well perhaps that would change their mind (don't spam them though).

NEW VIDEO DRIVERS COMMING at the end of march

http://life.tweakers.net/nieuws/51901/htc-directeur-belooft-drivers-voor-geplaagde-toestellen.html
On a dutch website the headline says "HTC president promises new drivers for plaged devices"
In short english .... Driver was not implemented because HTC needed to pay for the driver. They tried to program it themselves but its seams they will now pay for the driver with Qualcomm . The driver should be avaiable at the end of march ..... Its not yet know for what devices though.
Lets wait and see and hope
Time will tell...
We know. if you have been looking at htcclassaction.org then it shows that also. I think it was someone on here that got the email saying that and he told Chainfire.
brilliant news.
Do we think that the user is going to end up paying for the driver then?
This makes me glad I held onto my Tilt. I can't wait to knock the dust off it & fire up with the new drivers.

I doubt it, and if they do I expect one person will buy it and then they'll be put into a new ROM for all to use.
I've contacted T-Mobile about it asking to get in touch with HTC and see how they plan to distribute it.
WOW
That a marvelous news..cant wait..
so its mean our TyTn II will be the best phone ever after that..
Just keep your guard up, if this doesn't turn out to work and the CEO is just pulling us or this is fake, then dont whine and complain.
I'm itching to buy one of these phones as an upgrade to my aging Vario (Wizard) but I'm still going to hold off pending confirmation of this great news from an official source at HTC. Once I know they are really going to address this issue then I'll be happy to buy now and put up with the current poor display performance (which I observed first-hand in the store) until the drivers are released. Hopefully someone like chainfire will be able to confirm this for us soon.
Andre
Great ****ing news! I want to be optimistic about, and celebrate HTC when they come through at the end of March.
Actually, there's a new ROM out today. I wonder if there's a surprise in it.
Hi
The problem with this is that it is in no way official and until it is made official by an announcement on the HTC website it's nothing more than viral marketing.
It there were any truth in it HTC would be all too keen to shout it from their website surely?
Until it is made official from HTC this "email" is either some strange hoax or a deliberate fabrication from HTC PR marketing.
The HTC Class action site should not be falling for it and giving it publicity. If the chief executive really wanted to reassure his customer's it would be official on the HTC website. To think he would email personally to one particular person making claims of a forthcoming fix is quite frankly very unbelievable!
As to checking the email for correct SMTP headers etc, it takes nothing to fabricate those, it is only a text document after all that can be edited at will!

Phil

I don't think so. Please, check the coming SonyEricsson XPERIA X1:
Screen of 800x400 !!!
Hardware acceleration (supported with drivers) Being able to accelerate 3D graphics and decode HD Video!!
Windows Mobile 6.5
400MB of internal memory
MircroSDHC slot
QWERTY keyboard (slideable) with a much more robust mechanism than our Tytn II
3.2 MPX Cam... Cybershot!! (CarlZeis + Flash + 3x Optic)
Assisted GPS
Metal-case
Slim design
Less weight
Wonderful interface (iPhone beater)
And I'm prety sure, this brand will not disappoint us with such a device (I mean, we will not have surprises like... oh! I can't play videos... even the cam of the phone is useless, or it hangs up when touching the screen)
I took the decision of not let me being robbed by anyone, neither taunted by any brand. So I'll NOT buy a device from HTC never more. Instead of it, I'll inmediately buy the Sony device and put my AWUFULL tytn2 in sale...
Guys... HTC will probably NEVER officially announce that.
As I've said before in sticky thread:
1. It will confirm that there was an issue and we were right.
2. It will contradict their official statement about their "price policies" and that "Kaiser was never indended to have drivers and be a high end video-device" or whatever.
3. If something goes wrong they won't be able to backup from releasing drivers. By "something" I mean shaky Qualcomm's position, they did lose the court case and who knows what can happen with that company. And HTC as I understand will be relying on Qualcomm for drivers.
4. This publicity is not that good for them, as it will stay in people's minds that HTC is releasing devices, and drivers for them with a huge delay. Not a good marketing.
Of course, they have smart strategists working there and perhaps they will deem it profitable to release the official statement. We will just have to wait and see. But besides that - I wouldn't wait for official statement.
Oh and one more thing - chainfire updated htcclassaction.org, he says that they've analyzed smtp headers of the letter and they do look genuine. Besides that (as I udnerstand) they've sent a separate letter to Mr Chou and he confirmed that those are his emails.
CHAMPAGNE *****EZ!!!!
Please people, this news is as stated by another poster, on the class action thread:

free Himalaya for developers!!!

well, a month ago I bought Blackstone, and I feel good )
and as thankful user I would like to donate my Himalaya to somebody of developers on this site. I hope it will help to build more good and stable roms.
Himalaya (originally it's I-mate / Qteck) fully working, it comes with additional battery, earphones, cradle and leathercase. maybe something more, I don't remember already.
touch screen of the device is burst in several places, but is still working. for development use you don't have to replace it.
that's all about it.
now how to get? I live in Israel, so you pay only shipping or in a month I'm gonna visit Germany(Nurnberg) and I can take it with me.
btw: I do not speak english very well, so sorry
Yes i have to new Hima
My suggestion is to send Master Ather90 the Hima. He's a little older than 18 and his last Hima is broken. So he left our forum and switched to another. He was one of our most activ developers and reacht moderator status. The problem for you might be his place, as he lives in Bahrain, but fro Germany it is no problem to send via DHL as a gift, with custom declaration. As the device is worth aproximately 50€, it is possible that he has to pay a small amont of tax.
I think, a lot of people miss him and his work, so you would do us a big favoir.
Very good Idea.....

I havent gone anywhere, im still here its just that i have my Final Exams this month, i'll be finished on 23rd and then im on the heat
also, on 10th June i celebrate my 19th Birthday and i would love to have the Himalaya
yeah, the truth is that I would like to give it to ather90. I used one of his rom and liked it.
so be it.
shipping may be the problem for me. so I can take it to germany, I will stay there for a couple of weeks (17-30 june) and everyone is welcome to come and to transfer it to ather90.
That is great, you're the man of the day, Kap60HaT!
I wanted to send my own secundary Xda to ather but then I got in trouble with the Qtek I used the other day. So I have got the information to send a gift from Germany to Bahrain via DHL. I can send you the customs declaration too. It's some where around here . I will ask for the shipping asap, maybe you can send it from Nürnberg to ather90. If it is a prob for an israelian guy to send to the middle east, you have to post it to me if noone else could visit you, because I live ca. 500km to the north west.
We will get this job done, I'm sure.
great, really appreiciated Kap6oHaT
tell me once you are there and i'll let you know my address
from Israel there's no post service to Bahrain. and on Deutsche Post site, I saw it's about 14-15 euro, so there will be no problem.
I will need an exact address. you may pm me.
good news all, im back
just got the news from home that my device is there, soon i'll start cooking (once im dont with my eye opt.)
Cool, Kap6oHaT +1 !

Hi,
For the moment there is no GPS software compatible with WP7.
We must wait more time for the companies launch new version that could work with WP7.
Thanks
Santos
im conused now, so , should i exchange the phone or should wait few months??
That's really up to you. If you don't like it, then the phone isn't for you, take it back. If you do like it and are willing to wait another couple of months for GPS software, then wait. For info, i've been using the built in Maps application to get to places and it's fine as a temporary workaround.
The biggest problem at the moment is that we are forced to use the Zune portal and this will only work in a very limited number of countries.
I cannot buy any application in the marketpalce just because I live in Portugal!!!
And this is the main reason why so many companies are not willing to spend money, time and resources in developing to such a limited audience.
IGO8 was the best GPS software I have ever seen for the Xperia X1 or for any Win mobile 6.5 phone, now we cannot use it because the developers, european, are not going to do something that most of their present costumers won't be able to buy and use in their WP 7 phones!
For the same reason we don't have Skype and so many others...
Microsoft forums are loaded with complaints about this, even the people in Canada can't use Zune portal, can you believe this?
This sucks...
Not sure if I'd call the countries that WP7 is available in a "limited audience," that isn't a fair judgment simply because your country isn't supported... Most major countries ARE supported...
Now, to answer your question, the OS is a couple months old, I'd expect to see a rush of GPS software being released soon, especially with Verizon and Sprint getting involved. I'd also expect a lot of these to utilize the API to Bing Maps... Saving space on the device and making a more direct inclusion to the OS.... That's just my theory though. Be patient...
Are you for real? This is the list of supported countries:
Australia (English)
Belgique (Français)
Belgium (Nederlands)
Canada (English)
Canada (Français)
Denmark (English)
Deutschland (Deutsch)
España (Español)
Estados Unidos (Español)
Finland (English)
France (Français)
Hong Kong (English)
India (English)
Ireland (English)
Italia (Italiano)
日本 (日本語)
México (Español)
Netherlands (Nederlands)
New Zealand (English)
Norway (English)
Österreich (Deutsch)
Schweiz (Deutsch)
Singapore (English)
Suisse (Français)
Sweden (English)
United Kingdom (English)
United States (English)
20 countries!!! 20!!!
Out of almost 200 existing now! That's 10%...
In the remaining 90% of the countries in the world we are not able to buy one single song, one single application...
Imagine yourself in this situation, what would you do?
I know people that returned their phone the moment they realized how crappy the situation is.
I won't do it but I really feal cheated!
I'm not saying its an enjoyable situation, but most of the major countries are supported... Major... Also, yes, 200 countries.. But there are also some countries that won't allow implementation... But no, I wouldn't want to be in the situation, and as a Microsoft supporter I would like to see the list grow...
Sent from my HD7 using Board Express
Guys Question, maybe i too stupid for that, but how you can cancel/off everything , what you use in hd7 eg. video player , music other app?? Do I have to use arrow to make everything off? just arrow?
Yup, 10% of the worlds countries but I bet that's close to 50% of the worlds population.
Wouldn't call that a small market??
edit; According to wiki, that's 32% of the worlds population.
But the problem is Microsoft tend to distribute their phone with operator of the country without realising they dont fully support for the country like what apple do in the past. So people who buying the phone will stuck with the phone basic apps and we cant even sideload the app (although we can but ask microsoft yourself) and stuck with a contract you cant easily terminate it.
You can see that my country Malaysia had been announced as one of major countries that will sell HD7 under Maxis but do you see my country listed above? How do we suppose to buy app? by hacking the phone?

I think all the WinPhone 7 is good and better than apple with support of outlook and most importantly office sharepoint but the lacks of support is really frustrating. Im really regret that i not opt for HTC Desire HD.
P/S : Steve Balmer and Steve Jobs ( name also same ). Sorry for my English.
