I haven't seen any software that can acquire traffic info via GPS if that's what you're asking. I don't think GPS sends that type of data but could be wrong. Maybe do a little research and see if GPS even provides this data.

Hi,
I'm using a Bluetooth GPS Receiver from GNS (http://www.gns-gmbh.de with integrated TMC Receiver instead of the integrated GPS Receiver of the ameo. For Navigation I'm using Navigon 6 and I'm very satisfied with this combination.
GNS has announced a Bluetooth TMC only Receiver for the end of the year. This Receiver should support devices with integrated GPS Receiver. Expected Price in Germany: 99 Euros
Regards Andreas

Yes that is what I am talking about.
basically, what i want is a TMC working along with TOMTOM/Copilot to plan the best route by avoiding the traffic.
It's a pity that your current one can not benefit from AMEO's built-in GPS. :-(
Too long to wait for the bluetooth TMC only unit ...

TMC info is broadcast in the FM/AM band and can't be picked up by a GPS reciever (unless it have a seperate radio to do so). If your using TomTom
it has TomTom Traffic, as long as you can get an internet connection, you can get traffic data from everywhere TomTom monitors.
With TMC data, your limited to only the local area traffic.

tomtom traffic is not free. at least it required internet connection.
I just wondering how limit it is for the TMC. As long as it can help to get around the local/nearby traffic jam, then it's fine.
Can't the TMC info be integrated into SatNat software? Or is there any free stuff?
Sorry for so many basic questions as I never use TMC module before.
Thx!

Hi Roaylmail,
the problem with TomTom is, that this software doesn't work with the "Standard"TMC information, that is available for free.
TomTom uses only information available from their own service, one of the main disadvantages of this Software: Downloading the information costs money twice: You need a GPRS or UMTS connection to get acces to this information and you have to pay TomTom for this service. This is not acceptable for me, so I use Navigon.
GPS itself doesn't support traffic information, you allways need some extra hardware like a TMC receiver or a internet connection (TomTom Solution).
In Germany we have now TMC Pro (Not sure, if this service is available in other countries), supportet by the the navigation software from klicktel and Destinator. The software company has to pay once 50 € or something like that for a lifetime licence for TMCPro http://www.tmcpro.com. Main advantage: The information about the traffic jam has a better quality and more details.

Andreas

Exactly...

I have been using TomTom6 for over 4 months, at no time has TomTom Trafice ever asked for a logon name/password, or code to get the traffic data. It should also be noted that in the EU, the tomtom traffic data is taken from the national TMC databases for each country. This way as soon as the
countries TMC data changes TomToms servers are updated in semi-realtime.
As for costing money for internet access, yes it may cost you to download the data, but the data packet it downloads is usually very small. Besides most
people that have an Ameo or other type smartphone prob. also have som form of dataplan (Either unlimited or up to xxMB). You only need to download the Data every 30min or so to stay informed. You can even connect via Wi-Fi
at home before you leave and grab the 1st data packet, then update as your drive. The largest Traffic packet I've seen was a dataset for the entire US, and it was still under 250KB..

Never realize that tomtom traffic is free. (I just try with WIFI connection)
In the past I was confused it with tomtom plus account which is not free.
I think it's worthy to upgrade my data plan for tomtom traffic rather than purchasing limitted TMC module.
Thx u guys !

bad news. after playing with tomtom traffic for free for few hours. I got below error:
Service activation failed (error code 1506).
You may get the error message 1506: Service activation failed – this means that you temporarily cannot activate your TomTom PLUS trial. Please try again later.
seems can't get this subscription service for free.

Bluetooth DUN / PAN malachie...

Hi there!
I just got my MTeOR yesterday and was of course eager to upgrade to RUU_BREE100_1.32.251.1_1.29.00.10_HTC, but now i sorely miss the Bluetooth DUN profile and wonder whether a downgrade to RUU_BREE100_1.30.251.1_1.16.00.10_HTCEUR_Ship will bring it back?
Also does a downgrade work without any problems, i saw some "stuck in bootloader" e-mails here?
Do you have any idea which version was Pre-AKU3 and therefore still features the Bluetooth DUN profile?
It's pretty annoying having a Loox N560 with WM 5.0 PocketPC that cannot connect to a UMTS capable MTeOR which runs WM 5.0 Smartphone. How stupid is that?!
I mainly did the update to get HSDPA, but as i cannot even connect to the phone now... So i'd rather stay with a version without HSDPA that i can connect to, than using one that has HSDPA, but i can't connect to.
Pretty obvious or?!
Of course a tool for WM5.0 PocketPC which adds the Bluetooth PAN profile would also help, but i don't think there is such a thing
Thanks for your help!
Regards,
Tobias
Hi!
Have a look on this
http://www.firstloox.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6561
With this Widcomm Stack the PAN Profile wil be there on your N560.
It´s ridiculous, that devices using code from Microsoft are most incompatible to Microsoft devices.
Thanks ElJogi!
The WidComm Stack is really ways better. Unfortunately i seem to have lost the Obex File Transfer capability now on the N560. At least it does no longer show up in the TotalComander context menu. So no incoming and outgoing files, but Bluetooth PAN support, well that's better than before i guess.
Thanks,
Tobias
HSDPA workgin
Can you verify that you got HSDPA to work with this ROM version?
Good question pkg40. All i can say for the moment is, that there is a shortcut called SetHSDPA_Enable in the Windows\Start Up folder, which sounds promising.
However there is no HSDPA icon or something shown in the menu bar as far as i can see (also now different icon for GPRS or EDGE). So the only way to test that would be to download a big file with some data throughput measureing tool.
If such a test shows a too low data throughput for HSDPA there is still the question whether this is caused by non HSDPA support or due to some other bottleneck or processing problems in the phone.
Most reliable thing to do would be to connect it to some HSDPA capable network tester. Probably we have such a thing at my workplace, so if i can get hold of one i will give it a try.
Cheers,
Tobias

GPS software

Hi Guys,
I'm a newbie but just wanted to know if there are any gps programs that do not require GPRS activation and you can mark locations on it??
Thanks
i use Mapking (asia) and Garmin XT and neither requires GPRS activation. it helps if i download the latest data, and it can be through GPRS or any other internet connection (wifi for example), but it's not required for either to work....
why dont you use the windows live gps or google maps?

I use Garmin Mobile XT for serious routing but I agree, Google maps or Windows Live are brill when you have them on Sat photo and can actuall get a visual reference of your actual location and the buildings around you. If you view the maps/photos over Activesync or a free WiFi connection (like at home) for the area you want to use, they are stored within internal memory and if you disable data connection (or better still the phone) it will use these stored maps as GPRS is unavailable.
EDIT: Actully just checked and the Google ripoff guys have stopped that. The program halts without a data connection! Bummer!

kaiser connects to internet when starting GPS

Guys, please help me. whenever i connect any of GPS programs, my device automatically connects to internet. when i am in my home country this is not a big problem, but when i am abroad the fees for roaming GPRS/EDGE are huge.
can you give me any advice?

Download KaiserTweak and disable "Assisted GPS". This will configure your phone to rely solely on the internal GPS chip for routing instead of using cell phone towers as well.

Yeah... what we both said.
I wish my Assisted GPS worked like that. I have it turned on, but it never connects to the internet when I turn it on.
BTW what are the server ip and port settings supposed to be?
Thanks
AT&T Tilt on AT&T network.
also on the KaizerTweak go to the Data (GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA/WIFI) section and disable the GPRS connection by selecting the 4th line where it says "Enabled:**** Web" ans set it to "Disabled" to avoid extra charging from roaming. This because QuickGPS might use GPRS or even assisted GPS might (or not) use GPRS or other Data connection.
Cheers

Agps Vs. Gps

Hello,
I have TILT 8925, I am from Israel, What is better for my TILT, AGPS or GPS ?
How can i work only with regular GPS and not AGPS ?
thnx
The difference between the two is AGPS connects to your internet connection and when GPS signal is weak it will use you internet connection to assist in tracking you position. AGPS is a simple change in the registry using KaiserTweak or Advanced Configuration.

Google locat your position with WI-FI

I went on google maps today with my wifi on and it found my position to within about 30 meters!!!!!!!
So i turned wi-fi off and it found my position to within 500 meters!
i didnt know google can locate your position through the WI-FI network that you are connected to? or is something else in play here because the GPS was not on and it only found me that close when i had my wi-fi on!
Confused!
As far as a have red Google Maps can locate you on all three GPS, mobile phone connection and WIFI, thought i fail to see how they do it with WIFI...
Also i still don't know how they do it with mobile phone connection either.
I mean i understand technicaly, but does googlemaps make request to mobile provider for location data, or just send normal data packaged and finds out by those? I would realy like to know...
Google Maps has access to the phone, it's not Google who's finding out where you are. 3G connection and GPS should be clear. WIFI might work using the IP Address, but I don't think you'd get such an accuracy. Strange!

Yea i am baffled and slightly scared! If people can get my position that exact with my ip address!! Plus i always though it found ur location with cell towers by known which towers u were connected to and where they are located

It shouldn't be possible. Maybe it was coincidence.

That's what "they" can do. Actually your phone does it. Google doesn't know unless you send them the information.
I don't think its your ip address, coz my isp uses transparent proxies yet google can still trace my location
so how does it do it then! lol

They actually drive around scanning for Wi-Fi networks and plot their location, and that way your location can be determined by the available Wi-Fi networks.
To pinpoint location, XPS uses a massive reference network comprised of the known locations of tens of millions of Wi-Fi access points and cellular towers. To develop this database, Skyhook has deployed drivers to survey every single street, highway, and alley in tens of thousands of cities and towns worldwide, scanning for Wi-Fi access points and plotting their precise geographic locations.

Not sure if the Google Maps application uses Skyhook's database, but it basically works like this.
