How to copy the AltKeys.dll - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

hi buddy's!
Does anybody know how to copy the \Windows\AltKeys.dll? I've tried with Resco Explorer and with Total Commander, but neither did work. I would like to backup the AltKeys.dll and the AltKeys_deDE.dll from a german ROM and restore them to the english WM6 rom.
Thanks in advance for any tip,

Attached. Hope it's what you're needin' and whatnot.
I dumped the entire ROM and had it conveniently sitting on my desktop. =)
Oops - I just noticed you wanted the German version.. my bad. The attached files are Eng from the WM6 ROM..probably no good to you. Sorry.

sounds like a great solution!
How do you do that? According to this manual or is there another way?

Never mind, you already helped me allot, at least now I know that and how it can be done. thanks mate!

That method might work, but the partition layout is certainly different so you would want to pay particular attention to the output of pdocread -l etc.
I dumped the WM6 nbh ROM upgrade file rather than trying to pull something out of the device itself. Was there a leaked German version of the ROM image? If not, I suspect it will be out any day now with the rest of em...
I'm not positive - but I *think* total commander can copy ROM files - you might give that a try. It is a free file manager that runs on the device.

No, not yet. But the alt-keys are not that important anyway. It's just the german letters "ö,ä & ü" which are more prioritized in the german rom's altkeys.

Unfortunately not. Normally total commander and resco file explorer can copy and even replace files in the rom but for some reason not those dlls. I already tried that.

Challenge for the xda-gurus-Solution for Intern.SmartDialing

I have uploaded a greek rom file for the htc wizard.
This ROM has a second level of protection that can not be bypassed only by CIDunlocking a phone.
After installing the ROM, uppon second boot (first boot installs ext rom then restarts) it displays a message
"This rom is intended only for devices sold by ace hellas" and freezes.
I think it searches for a valid IMEI range but I am not sure.
I am trying to find the exe file responsible for locking up the phone (using WM5 editing tools my maimach) but I have no luck yet. If someone could lend a hand I would be gratefull. Even giving me a hint (like how to edit the registry from a dumped ROM etc.)
Anyway, the file is located here.
http://dcom.teipir.gr/RUU_Prodigy_10107105_Qtek_WWE_ship_GR1.04.exe
Thanks in advance
Below, you can find instructions to customize smartdialing for recognizing characters for any language
My best man has the EXACT same problem with his Universal.
We haven't uploaded the firmware yet but can easily be downloaded through qtek.gr.
Can someone help?
It's a pitty not to be able to use the device just because he bought it outside Greece.
It's an interesting challenge after all.
Andrew, maybe you can send me a PM with what you have tried yet.

Check your Extended_ROM files. They might be what you are looking for. Probable workaround might be soft-resetting your device before extended_rom files are being installed, i.e. hard-reset your device now and immediately soft-reset it when you will see message "Customizing will start in 3 sec..." or something like that...

The IMEI is stored in registry within "RIL" branch, but your IMEI is not touched within traditional flashing/reflashing
A Russian fellow had done this job last year, for the S100 Greek Rom (Anansky i think was his name). The lock is not on the extended rom, but on the main OS. And if i remember well, it has an IMEI checking ytility, and another one which checks Language settings for the Language selection utility to work, but this can be changed with registry hack. Well, we are all waiting...

no it's not in extended ROM at least for the Universal (and sorry for posting in Wizard forum) - we tried your method from the first moment
1. No, extended rom has nothing to do with it , for sure.
2. Yes, anansky has done it before for the htc magician (my previous phone) but never revealed a howto.
@NLS
I have found a suspicious file called langbootcheck.exe which I tried deleting (with WM5 edit tools) prior to flashing my device. But then the device won't boot at all. Maybe this file is needed, or maybe I did something wrong?
If someone could at least tell me, how to edit the registry hives with the wm5 editing tools. This way I could see wich applications are executed on startup.

Did you try to play with HKLM\Comm\BootCount value? To put it as 0 so it is always thinking of a just hard-resetted device?
no I didn't try that, nor the device is mine (to try)
andrew try having a 0 byte file in place of the exe - maybe it needs the file to be there but nothing to happen when it is called
maybe Ace (since I am 99.5% sure that they read xda-developers), could give us a hint on why they have done this (when nobody else did on the whole planet)...

No, but it sounds like a good idea. That would explain why it doesn't lock up during the first boot process. But then again there is no way to change it because the os automatically reboots itself. Unless it installs a cab file from ext rom that does the trick. Do you think this might work?

i realy doubt it! I mean giving us a hint
I will try to replace the file with a zero-sized one. But then again I'm not even sure if it is the file responsible. I mean, that I just guessed (because the name sounded suspicious). It could be any other file. The file name could be desguized. Thats why I need to know 2 things:
1) How to edit the registry with maimach's WM5 editing tools.
2) Where is the startup configuration located i the registry
I didn't say tell us "how", I said for the to tell us "why"...
anyway...
Yeah ACE sux, well it's been really disgusting to lock the roms so we anyone who want Greek language to buy only from em. ACE think theirselves smart enough and all the other like Russian, italian, norwegian, dutch and many more who have their Qtek rom unlocked are the "stupid"...
Anyway this is a different story..
I am available to help in any way but i'm not such an expert user as you to play with the editing tools.
P.S:I see the rom is uploaded on a TEI of Piraieus server, you have any connection with teipir? I'm in the Automation.

NOone? :!: Buzz? Come on, you will make many people happy!!!!
I don't want to sound nagging but it must be very easy for you!!
I found another approach to our problem.
Instead of trying to hack the rom, I extracted some dll files needed for the greek smartdialing.
I dumped the Greek rom and followed the instructions here.
http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&Itemid=59&func=view&id=10204&catid=45
but used the Greek smartdialing.dll instead of the one posted above.
It worked very well. I even edited the smartdialing cab found on the ext rom and included the dll. So each time I hard reset the device, the smartdialing feature works for greek characters. I think the smartdialing can be customized just as easily for any other language, just as long as you find the .dll in your language. (For this, download a rom containing the language, and user WM5 editing tools found on xda-devs).
If someone needs it, I can upload the greek smartdialing cab to overwrite the one in your ext rom (for wizard only).
I also use AEKMAP for the internal qwerty and I find it very stable, simple and small.
So I guess there is no much point in hacking the greek rom (unless someone wants the menus customized - I don't).
how did you dumped the greek rom ?

Wizard ROM ported to BA - v1.0-ToMa discussion

I think this deserves its own topic. Original post from Tuatara:
Hi everyone ...
Sorry, I've run out of time for providing you with an updated ROM which I wanted to have feature complete. I'm off on vacation tomorrow for 2 weeks, and can't keep working on it until I'm back.
I've been playing around with many things (adding/removing files, fixing the Midlet Manager, updating Camera, etc.) but I haven't got the ROM to the point where I feel it's 100% ready for others - but having said that, I've uploaded it to XDA Dev, and you're welcome to give it a try and see if it improves things for you.
This is MAINLY an update from Mamaich's v2a ROM, which does contain the Quantum Timing Patch, and the Performance Tweaks.
I've also made a few filesystem changes - predominantly removing the Midlet Manager (which wasn't working), applied all of the Performance Tweaks as per the thread (and a few more), changed the default startup elements to suit my tastes (at the moment), and added some useful programs and details to the ROM. (psShutXP, Running Programs, Shortcuts to missing elements, etc.)
The ROM is in /Uploads/Blue Angel/wm5_test/Tuatara_v2a_Custom.zip
Inside the ZIP file is the nk.nba file, along with the updated registry files (boot.rgu, default.rgu, and user.rgu) which have been merged in. I've unfortunately forgotten to include initflashfiles.dat in the ZIP, but that file is directly available from inside the ROM anyways.
The ZIP also contains a different EXTROM - only the missing files, camera, and midlet manager are needed now, and there is no warning about publisher on installation anymore. You can obviously customize the EXTROM cfg.txt file to your liking, and install anything and everything all at once.
Additionally the ROM itself still has some additional space for applications, so if you want to cook your own, there is some space available to add more.
Sorry I won't be able to answer any questions about this ROM, or handle issues on it for two weeks, so it's up to you if you want to try it (or just decompose it and look at the changes).
Enjoy, and I hope everything goes well.
Regards,
Robert.

Personal thoughts: I think this ROM gives some performance boost indeed, not much, but it is noticable. Nearly every bug is fixed now, only the bluetooth disconnect issue is left. My BA is fianlly shows itself disconnected when i take it off the cradle (with the previous ROMs, it often showed that it is still connected).
Enabling SmartDialing
Hi, I've tried this ROM & this definitely faster! Thanks!
But I can't seem to enable SmartDialilng by removing the "_" from the mfc80u.dll_ and msvcr80.dll_ files for SmartDial will start to work? These 2 files are missing from this ROM but even after I've copied these 2 files into the \Windows folder, SmartDialing still doesn't work. Any ideas?

In this case, you should use the harder way. Read step 4 of the upgrading process (see wiki) to upgrade via BaUpgradeUt.exe.

The nk.nba file needs to be converted back to nk.nbf regardless of whether you use MA_Upgrade or BA_Upgrade. I use MA_Upgrade. There is an modelid entry of the USER.rgu that should be changed to PH20B1. I'm not sure whether these *.rgu files need to be copied to the \windows dir or added back into the nk.nba file. Any thoughts KTamas, i'm thinking the later.

You don't have to do anything with RGU files at all. You need to use xda3nbftool (with editfix.bat if you want) to patch the ROM.

Thanks SS, it's a good idea but unfortunately the ExtROM doesn't contain much of interest.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1213228&postcount=11
The UK M700 ext rom is pretty useless actually. it only contains 4 cabs
MP_MMS3.5_OrangeUK_Trinity_060811.CAB - setup MMS settings ONLY (doesnt include gprs and wap stuff)
MP_CVSDcpl_20060920.cab - adds the Voice Speed Dial control panel (standard in HTCs rom)
PP_Fix_ShowTodayTheme.cab - Changes the background
PT_WA_Abaxia.CAB - Turns on the Orange Plugin
Everything else is including in the rom itself, the orange sounds, today plugin, colour scheme, icons, programs etc so installing the ext rom wont get these back.

You might care to try this,it's from the Hermes but works quite well on the Trinity.

This cab seems to be better than just my files and registry export
Many thanks. It installs fine and does the job. Not as good looking as the M700 version but beggars cant be choosers
I've got the files somewhere! They reside in the Application Data folder and are part of the main ROM installation, not extended ROM.
I'll try and find where I put them and repost
Here an archive with registry information and the files.
All the files goes to \Application Data\DIL_APP
Note : as I said earlier this is from a FRE ROM...
As promised, here is an English version.
The DIL_APP folder must go under Application Data, so copy it there first, then copy the orange.reg file to the device, and tap on it in File Explorer to install it.
The Orange.tsk file goes in My Device/Windows and is the main Today Theme file selectable from Settings/Today.
The orange.bmp file can only be installed as part of a ROM manipulation, but is here for completeness!
Superb! Thanks again.

Quick Page Pool Size Changer.

Hi all,
First let me credit CHOPIN (formerly PARADIS_PAL) for this solution. I have only changed the ROM offset in order to have it to work with our Herald device.
Now you can easily change the pagepool size in just a few seconds!
Do not forget to soft-reset your device as soon as the ROM value has been changed.
Ciao!
24/AUG: No need to mention that I have used and tested this BEFORE posting this thread here.
According to S4VVA suggestions (thanks pal!), it seems that 6MB pool size is a quite good compromise, as opposed to 4MB that actually slows the device down, and 12MB which in turn wastes so much precious memory.
Given this method actually takes just a couple of seconds, I would recommend a page pool size change on a per need basis:
leave it at its original value (it won't hurt your device, after all!) and reduce its size if you ever needed more space.
The link below will lead you to the original paradis_pal's thread.

So first, I use backup.bat? And then whatever bat I want for the PP I want?
Edit: Guess I answered my own question. I did just what I said above, and the whole thing took 2 seconds + reboot time. Sweet. No more of Paul's way for me. Was easy as well, but took too long (I'm impatient. lol)
is it ok for wm6?
Looks promising, I had to install copy Aserg Policies.cab first, wich was not mentioned by the way.. Rebooting now
well seems to work, thank you, kudo's!

i thought you used enablerapi.cab
and

I did not have to install enablerapi.cab or Aserg Policies.cab and it worked on my T-Mobile Wing. Running the 6MB now and seems okay.
When you run it, it automatically copies the .dll in the folder to the phone. This should eliminate the need to run any of the pre-cabs.
I will have to wait and see what other users say but it sounds great! Can we change it to a 4 mb page?

I have yet to use this PP Changer but big up to Paradis for creating this. There are many people like bankrupt who are afraid to try changing the page pool the first time. I was like that when I first read Paul's process, but after a few flashes I dont even need the instructions anymore. If you don't try you'll never suceed.

Why would you need a tutorial??
Just download and extract the files, connect your Herald to pc with ActiveSync.
Then go to the extracted folder and run the .bat file of your preferred PP-size.
I also will be happy if we got one because I startet like you wrote before but nothing happen.
Do I need a sync profile or sync as a guest?
Do I need to go into the boot loader modus?
Should I do it without a hub?
Is a backup needed before?
Should I go step by step down with the PP Size?
...
Thanks in advance for your help
Tommy
Allright,:
1. Connect your Herald with Running OS, so with ActiveSync Connection (no special mode, just connected)
2. Install ASerg Policies.cab (not always necessary)
3. Unzip the File you downloaded from first post
4. Run backup.bat
5. Run the batch of the desireable PagePool size.
If failed PP Change, run restore.bat.. (VERY unlikely)
Easy!
Addendum
6. Soft reset your device
OK, I think thats the problem,
Can somebody post the ASERGPolicy Cab, I dont want to download the whole ROM once again.
Thanks ind advance
Tommy

xperia x2 english rom

i just got an xperia x2 prototype but it is in dutch.
does anyone know where i can find the wwe version of the rom so i can flash it to english?
thanks
I don't know but is any chance dump your rom or panel instalation files from /windows directory
i have no idea how to do that.
Use this tool to dump it, http://www.4shared.com/file/126523116/2b69156a/Dump_My_Phone.html, it seems that some SE customizations are made by cab, can you post them also?
Then if you can post the raw files.
Cheers.
ok ill try to do it tomorrow because ive been very busy lately.
its too bad no one has an english rom.
bigneeker, it would be cool if u could dump the panels, panel mananger etc and put it up on rapidshare or something, thanks in advance
hell yes, tiltview on the x1 would be brilliant!
+thanks in advance
ok.
how do i get the panel program and tiltview out of the phone?
do i just look for the cab and copy and paste?
i dont even know what they are called.
sorry but ive never done anything like this before.
I think the dump tool just takes everything from the phone and shifts it towards your computer?
sorry i've never used it either :S

The cabs are located in the windows directory on your phone. If you are connected via active sync, just browse to your phone's windows directory, sort everything by file type, and copy all the cabs to your computer.

This isn't possible yet, since we don't have a wwe ROM, however, you can still get some english functionality out of your device. If you haven't already done so, goto Start>>Setings>>System>>Regional Settings and select "English United States" from the drop down list.
This won't fix the majority of the UI, but it'll put the calender stuff mostly in English, and many apps will also now be in English (e.g. Google Maps, Skype, etc.)

A easy thing is to copy the whole windows directory, put it on your computer then make a rarfile of it and upload
Then we can take out the files and upload them recustomized
Bump.........

With active sync or while dumping?
Try it with multiple computers, maybe the computer doesn't recognize the phone :/
during the dumping.
i got the addresses and put them in the dump my phone.bat by editing the file.
this is the result:
3.13M (0x320000) Part00
| 74.88M (0x4ae0000) Part01
| 128.00M (0x8000000) Part02
| 238.63M (0xeea0000) Part03
so when i add the numbers that are in the parenthesis and then click on dump my phone.bat i get the "device not ready" error.
do i have to do anything on the phone before? i already installed the enablerapi but do i have to activate it seperately or do i maybe have to cancel activesync? is that blocking it.
come on guys help him, it`s so nice that he do this for all of us!!
hope u get fix it dude!!

You possibly don't have the proper permissions set. Try installing the sdkcerts.cab, if you haven't already. Did the regional settings tip help at all? Also any luck with copying the windows directory?
i installed skcerts and its still not working.
copying the files from windows isnt working either.
