Groovy, cant wait for the HTC branded Kaiser/Tilt/ wotever

I hear Sept 3 now. That is what all the posts from this month are saying. I am going to get one as soon as they come out! Its a refined version of my 8525 and that was 100% better than my 6700.

once this bad boy comes out im ditching my iphone and picking up one of these, starting to miss windows mobile

I have several friends that work at an AT&T Corporate store and they have told me that they have heard the first of the month it will arrive. I think maybe we should just save ourselves the discomfort and just see wtf happens. There are many opinions and everyones anticipating its arrival but what I dont get is given the fact allot of us have awesome devices currently why the constant hysteria?
Its not like were all using razor phones and are waiting to experience windows mobile, or a modified rom, or the wonderful H on our phones, right?
Just my .02 cents but seriously how many times have we seen a post similar to this with a different date/ device name etc...?
I am using a RAZOR and by the time this thing comes out i will be to got damn blind to read that tiny screen after all the back and forth to all the messae boards this is driving me nuts!
Oh BTW

UPDATE: Sorry, we forgot to add this in…We’ve been told the HTC TyTN II, or AT&T 8925 should be launching October 1st on AT&T. Hopefully that will stick.

I would venture to say that is way off , due to the amount of people that do know att reps including myself that already are being told they will have the device there to sell early this month. I am just gonna be content for my 8525 for the time being and just wait to see what happens.
Really though, the third is 4 days away. Don't you think SOMETHING would be made official by now? What is the problem with releasing a date anyway? Where are the ATT project managers on this one? Did AT&T not learn anything from announcing the date of the iPhone over 6 months in advance?

Well frankly I think they are a bunch of assholes but that could be due to me acting like an impatient child LOL. I personally have done online sales for almost a decade and I would say if a hot item was to be released and we gave our potential customers this half assed information, it would be someones job, period. I can appreciate how one company may operate differently from another but I definitely agree with your comment.

Good Bye Kaiser

it is been fun and it is real.....but not real fun.....

I will make sure to keep a close eye on this thread
Gotta rename thread to "Good Buy Kaiser"
Mine is on order already, expecting an arrival of mid to late August. £525 GBP. Gotta raise some money now...anyone want a faulty Kaiser??!!!
Why does everyone seem to announce they're departure with the Kaiser?
See, I would get a Touch Pro too, but :
525 Pounds = 1 045 USD.

NOT only the cost, but what major functionality differences are there ( other than the D3D )? Not many i know of. It is a bit sexier though...... ill wait a year after its release when the prices are reasonable, or hang onto my Tilt until ATT rolls out 4G.... since i see no major technological advantages at this point......
i love my tilt, but hey if att is getting the touch pro, then kaiser get out the way and touch pro here i come, by the way matmaneyre, ill take your faulty kaiser
Sorry, just checked back on this post. Sold my faulty kaiser on ebay for £195. Well impressed. That's gone towards my Touch Pro. Well pleased with it btw. Its excellent so far. Had it since August 15th.
Oh and announcing departure from the Kaiser is like saying good riddance to a huge disappointment from day one, what with video driver issues and all the other problems I had with mine.
Is the touch pro the one where they drop the WiFi feature?
The Touch Pro does have wifi.
I think the tilt came out around March 07? for at&t...I waited until Oct 07 to get it, price came down, early adopters worked out the kinks etc. I'll hang onto my tilt until the touch pro has been out a little while..and to let the price come down after the holidays. Looks like a great device, but I'm not in THAT much of a hurry

talked to an HTC rep and well at&t will get the Touch Pro in october! and on a side note official 6.1 release the 26th. Hope that tickles everyones fancy =P
Next time, please don't tickle my fancy without my permission.
does the touch pro have video drivers ?
and what about the fm radio I was told the att model will not have the radio
not sure about fm or d3d drivers... i'm sure it would have drivers but i am not sure. when i talk to rep again i'll bring up some of these questions.

Tilt Replacement

I have had my Tilt for a little over a year now and I realy like it alot, but being a forward thinking person I understand that when my contract is up in 8 months or so I am going to want a new phone. I have been scouring fourums and manufacturer websites and have been unable to find anything that fills the Tilts shoes. One of my main concerns is that other phones all seem to be getting rid of the buttons on the front which I want to keep. does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement phone, already out or on the way?
wait and see what is coming out in 8 months.
There's not many phones worth the price or trouble to replace the Kaiser. I'd just wait and see what going to be new in the market. I heard HTC maybe making a phone with the Nvidia graphics chip, so that maybe worth the wait.
Otherwise, most new HTC phones are using a 128 Mhz faster CPU, with slightly more ram, storage, accelerometer, and higher resolution screen. Higher Megapixel camera too, if that matters to you. Some new phones don't even have a keyboard, so you'll have to use the touch screen.
If I were to buy a new Smart Phone, it'll probably be based on the Android OS. If WM6.5 doesn't get a massive overhaul, then Android is the way to go.
There are many android phones coming out that I would like to have.
Sony Ericsson Xperia 2!!! Cool Phone!
Nope here it is, the uber mega phone to crush all other phones.

Well, I can tell you my 2 years is up, and I am probably going to get the Touch Pro 2 (aka Tilt 2) from AT&T when it comes out.
when is that supposed to come out??

Originally it was scheduled for Oct. 6th, but ROM bugs apparantly pushed that back to Oct. 18th. However, I'd bet you could get it a few days earlier if you asked the AT&T reps. I got my Tilt 3 days early, so I don't think getting the Pro2 would be terribly difficult to get ahead of schedule.
Personally I'm thinking of switching to a BlackBerry if another good HTC doesn't come out. I got the Tilt as a replacement to the 8125 and I couldn't be happier. I've had it for a long time now and it's extremely durable. I've dropped it numerous times and it's still in good condition. The 8125 broke after the 5th drop so I was vary happy about the replacement.
i just went to my ATT store and asked if they heard about a tilt 2 or touch pro 2 coming out in october. and the reps there said they havent heard of anything like that coming out in october... is there some news link that says something about this phone??

The Boy Genius Report posted this story, and if you google "Tilt 2", you'll find quite a few pictures and articles concerning it. When I asked my AT&T reps, they said they didn't know anything officially, but one who seemed to be senior over all the rest said that he wouldn't be surprised considering all the things online about it.

Windows 7 update?

Would it be possible to update Imagio to WinMo 7 when it is available?
Thanks,
Mark
No. If I read right the min requirements for 7 Series is a Snapdragon. That's a 1GHz CPU, the Imagio only has a +500MHz CPU. I'm sure once we get an HSPL someone will be more then happy to cook a rom. But It will run like crap, if at all.
no update even the hd2 will not get it
no 6.5 hardware is capable of running 7.
Thanks for all the clarifications. Appreciate that!

LOL The HD2 will get it. That's like the only phone that will.
What really gets my panties in a bunch.... wait... did I just type that out loud? ... is I was assured at the time of purchasing the Imagio that it would most definitely have winmo7 available for it when it was released. It was repeated over and over that winmo6.5 was simply an interim solution until 7 was released. It was THE determining factor for purchasing the Imagio and signing a 2 year contract. As for Microsoft... I'm through with buying any phone containing windows mobile OR phone... Winmo6.5 is the Windows Vista of the PDA.... a complete POS considering it was released to compete against the iphone and the droid.
Thanks, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Man I don't even care about WinMo 7 anymore lol.
Not a fan of the interface.
Do want 6.5.3 though.
I'm looking forward to WinMo7. I just hope that we can get this unlock bull**** taken care of before it comes out - which I'm sure won't be for quite a while yet if I know Microsoft! Yeah, I know that they're saying it'll be out soon, but I seriously doubt it. On the other hand, I love this Imagio so much that I'm not really missing the hard unlock. So, lots to see about....

weeelllll.. now hang on a sec. i dont think it was ever designed to be a competitor of iphone, per sey. that said, i think that *every* smartphone/ppc is positioned to compete w/the iphone. as for it not being able to run winmo 7, who cares?? just get another phone once it comes out..u do realize that it's going to be some time before it does finally make it to the hallowed shelves of verizon - i don't care *what* they say. w/verizon and microsoft it's always 'i'll believe it when i see it'. as for droid, haven't seen it yet but am planning to make it into a verizon store this weekend - very much doubt it but that's the plan as of this second!! so stick around m8.. u may be pleasantly surprised..

Why would you ever believe a saleperson from any cell provider? Specially on Minmo7. Odds are heavily in favor of you knowing way more than they do, even if you know nothing about nothing.
Most of the dudes that work in the VZW stores are lucky to remember their names.
I did read on a MS blog that WM7 would not be available for the phones that preceded the WM7 phone.
7 wont be on 6.5 phones. no matter what, it isnt happening.
its PHYSICALLY not possible.
hope for 6.5.whatever and be thankful if you get it.

Man! I'm self employed and still don't have the disposable income that a fair amount of people have in these forums. In the current state of the economy who can afford to purchase phones every time a new one comes out? I sure can't.
Regarding Win 6.5.... loaded the most recent update to it and it's made a ton of difference regarding the use of the phone, speed, and the constant lockups I was experiencing prior. At this stage I have settled into the Imagio and have loaded a ton of apps that make it much more convenient in just about every aspect of my day. Figure since Win7 will never be available I'll take the plunge soon and load one of the new roms on it. Also curious to try out the droid OS now available.
Still... while there was a great deal of initial enthusiasm regarding the Imagio... it looks like that enthusiasm has died off really quick which would seem to translate to less being done to continue to enhance the product on all fronts... including here.
Time will tell.

Yeah, I hear you. It does get quite expensive. But think of it as a hobby.. That might help justify its cost. Or, stick w/what you have and love it. All these phones have serious sweetness creds. Before I bought the Imagio, I was using a 3 year old Touch. It suited my purposes fine and I bought the Imagio only bc my Touch was all scratched and generally messed up.

well good thing that you doubt it. I tried out the kin two with win mo 7 and i have to say.. it is a huuge adjustment. One thing that bothered me the most... there is no apps for the phone. yea u heard me
I have purchased windows based smartphones since it was the ONLY player in the market with Windows CE 1.0. I have probably purchased 12 to 15 different variations of a windows based smartphone over the last 10 years. I have developed apps left and right for win ce and winmo. The fact that Microsoft has created immediate obsolescence on every winmo 6.5 phone by not allowing forward migration is the final straw for me. Particularly with an OS that effectively will have NO support when it's released for 3rd party apps. I really believe microsoft has lost what ever clout and status they had in the pda market for good. I will NEVER purchase another MS based smartphone again. Bill Gates can sit on them and spin. In the end I have to say that the Imagio, while giving the promise of longevity, expandibility, and all around blissfulness, has turned out to be the worst, bar none, pda purchase I have ever made. And I am still stuck with 14 months left on this *&*^*) assed 2 year verizon contract on it.
Purchased my first Droid the other day. The Droid X. MAN what a beautiful pda! This thing does mega circles around my Imagio and winmo. With the 60,000 plus apps available for it... my ability to build apps around it as well... and the shear elegance of the unit... this may very well be the last pda I ever purchase.
As the Imagio fades into "paper weight" status... Homer Dokes rides off into the sunset with his Droid X at his side.... tomorrow will be a good day!
Wow
You must of had some Really Great phones before the Imagio if that is your worst one ever! What were they?!!! I want to get one!

Next Android Port . . . where to from here?

born of curiosity. thinking about my next windows cdma phone to use with my sprint SERO account, and of course it has to run android. right now, the options are few. I like small form factor, so the obvious next step would be the htc diamond - small, getting cheaper, and android port in full swing. a neat little upgrade to the vogue, the biggest downside is the screen size; but hey, we're used to it. on the up, it's got wifi, accelerometer.
or there is the much more expensive TP2 and it's port. big screen and all the goodies, but big footprint that ain't fitting in your pocket easily (not to mention the big price).
of course, all ports seem to build off dzo's work, but it does not seem that nand is up and running on at least these two devices.
wondering where the devs will go next, if anywhere? dzo, mssmison, vilrod, and others, what's your next everyday device; will it be an android port device or a true android device?
if you choose "other win mo android port" please list it below.
Well I went from the Vogue to a Sprint Hero running a completely functional 2.1 build from the HTC Legend on a 2.6.29 kernel but....I'm keeping an eye out on a cheap TP2 to hack around on for fun. It's driving me crazy having everything working
I've had a Vogue for almost 2 years and as soon as an HTC phone hits Verizon with the Snapdragon CPU and a nice 800*480 screen I will be putting the Vogue in the drawer for good.
I ditched the vogue and sero yesterday and added myself to my original family plan with verizon that I still have 4 other people on. It turns out with an employee discount data was $24 and it was 9.99 to add myself so 35 compared to my 30 sero and I get an android phone. But I jumped the gun and ordered the eris. After reading last night and realizing how soon the snapdragon cpu devices (google nexus one and htc incredible) were arriving within the next couple of days, I called this morning and canceled my order. I will wait until they come out. btw I am on Sero 500 and have been out of contract since december.
I'm not a dev but here's my 2 cents I've had my Vogue since 2007... since it first came out. I've been out of contract since like May praying for the Palm Pre, the HTC Hero, and so on. For me, the Diamond is just a very small incremental upgrade, unless it was like $50 bucks, it would not be worth it to me. What's keeping me from the TP2 is the price... $300 is ridiculous! Right now our Vogue's are pretty damn good, so I'm gonna hang out here until A) a better phone is available on SERO B) TP2 price falls below $200. Realistically, I don't really expect either of these things to happen anytime soon..not to mention their ports still being significantly far behind our lovely Vogue port. so... *hugs Vogue* on a side note, the bounty for TP2 port is over 3 grand... damn! lol
Not a vogue user but i've had a tilt since it was introduced to at&t I did upgrade when it was time to an iPhone 3gs but quickly gave that to my wife. Now after 3 or so years AT&T is finally bringing android to their network. With the backflip already introduced and a Nexus one with AT&T 3g capabilities on the market things are starting to look good. I am waiting for the rumored desire to hit my carrier so I can decide between it or the nexus one. I was on the prowl for a newer phone that had an android port working on AT&T with a reasonable price but thats like finding a needle in a haystack. Now I only have to wait a few months for a new one it should be out about the time my wife gets to upgrade her service so I'll just rob her then
The only thing that I am looking for as far as other devices being upgradeable to Android is actually my old- trusty BA (which in fact, was the first device sporting Android that was spotted in the "wild"). There are a few things for the BA working off HaRet (Qtopia and a few other Linux builds), but I would like to get someone to do something as far as completely porting Android to it (just a few drivers to be re-written, I guess)
I'm on SERO, so I'm not giving up $30/mo to get a real Android phone.
I wish Sprint would get the Diamond2/Imagio. I'd help port Android to that. For now, I'll stick with the Vogue. My 2 years isn't up until June.
I don't like the Touch Pro2 because it's a brick. The Diamond / Touch Pro have hideous battery life. I think they must've made a big mistake with that phone that they fixed with the Touch Pro2, because I've heard it sucks down battery like no other (not the Android port, but WinMobile). I don't think even Android would help to fix it, I feel it's a hardware problem.
I just might have to break down and ditch SERO. With the 25% discounts on Sprint, and possibly get a retention $10 credit for ditching SERO, I could get it close...
I'd wait for the Hero2 or the Supersonic. Probably the Supersonic, since the Hero2 isn't snapdragon (though OLED would be nice).

I'm on the same boat with you. I won't ditch SERO. I'm waiting for a better touchscreen phone for SERO that I can port Android.
x3. I'll never give up SERO.
The Diamond has made some great progress in the last couple of weeks. Still no GPS or Camera support though . I am having fun with it though. Despite the screen size being the same as our vogues the resolution is much nicer. 210 pixel density is kinda nice.
When's the ETA for the Nexus One on Sprint? Not like it will work on SERO though
can not wait for the htc incredible to hit verizon!
snapdragon cpu!
"i'm done with the ports, it's a real android device for me"
I think last poll option can be read negatively.
But fact of the matter is that because FOLKS (we know who all ) have done so tremendous job in porting Vogue that people have converted from Windows Mobile to Android!
So even though, I will switch from Vogue to other full blown Android device, Vogue will be my playground.
Otherwise, where else can you get latest OS (2.1) on a four-year old device!
Thanks guys from making my phone usable!
After my vogue took a crap, I ordered an Eris from eBay, I figured that would be the ideal time to upgrade. Im going to root it tomorrow and begin porting the Legend rom to it. I miss working on the vogue ports, and like Zenulator said, it is wierd actually having every thing working .
I'm hanging tight as it seems that the competition between wireless carriers is accelerating a lot within the last year. With the nexus going to all carriers and the iphone to supposedly follow, it will be interesting to see where things go in terms of pricing. Also throw in 4g coming to sprint in the next quarter (although I read over at their user forum that the 4g has been running into bandwidth problems in the test cities). I forsee 3g "everything" pricing leveling out just under $50 as 4g comes into mainstream.
In short, if I can get a 1ghz+ native android device in the next year on a ~$40 plan, I'll probably bail ship. Otherwise, I'm sticking to Sero and snickering at my iphone friends as I tell them I pay 27.50 a month for my "everything" plan.
I am waiting for the Nexus on VZW. The Legend would be nice but I'd rather have twice the RAM over Sense UI which seems to be the rumor going around about the Legend.
I still can't believe I've had the Vogue for 2 yrs. I've never had a phone for 12 months nevermind 24. That's a credit to the devs here who have extended the life of my phone by more than twice. Thanks.
I will say this, as long as there is still developing for the Vogue I will keep trying it. As others have said, it's weird when everything works. I use a MyTouch 3G at work and its just not as fun or as cool as my Vogue.

I will say this, as long as there is still developing for the Vogue I will keep trying it. As others have said, it's weird when everything works. I use a MyTouch 3G at work and its just not as fun or as cool as my Vogue.

I couldn't agree more, I'm looking forward to the nexus on vzw as its the first phone I see worth giving up the vogue for.
I'm on a 1 year business contract so I used to get a new phone every 10-12 months 'til I got the vogue and discovered this forum, going on 2 years with my vogue! I think I see the end coming soon though..
yeah, jdnake and myn, I agree about not giving up SERO. i was tempted for a little bit, but couldn't bring myself to do it. there is a gap in the windows mobile phones on sprint right now, you're right the TP2 is an absolute brick; but if nothing else comes through the pipeline, as much as I love sleek phones if I'm going to buy something it is definitely going to have more screen real estate than the vogue . . . i'm praying for a diamond 2 to land in the lineup. I'll keep my vogue android phone for a while yet, though, waiting, waiting on something nicer for SERO. ok, I'm rambling. need sleep.
For me it's going to be g1 -> magic -> snapdragon based.
That or I'll keep the vogue forever..
lol
I left the Vogue a couple of months back and got the Eris. It's doing it's job for now, but when that Nexus hits big red, I'm going to be tempted...

I had a Touch Pro when I was with AT&T and the battery life is mostly a software issue. When I was running a custom 6.5/Sense ROM the battery life was amazing for a multitasking smartphone and much better than the Moment I have now
