Debranded ROM - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

Hi,
Is it possible for me take ATT Rom and to make a CHEEIMG.nbh totaly debranded?
I mean debrand it while it's still CHEEIMG.nbh file, not in Treo itself, so I could install it fast in other Treo devices.
How could I do this?
Thank you very much

Just use the "Vodafone" ROM - it's about as de-branded as you can get. It's running just peachy on my ATT 750. The only thing it doesn't have is the applet to enable/disable the ATT proxy easily...but that can be accomplished with a registry edit.

T-Mobile MDA customization cab file

Hi, I have t-mobile mda, I use it in Ukraine. Does anybody know how to get rid of the t-mobile MDA customization cab file that is automaticaly launched after the soft-reset? I really don't need it, and I think that it just slows down the pda by installing all those programs. I would appreciate any help on this matter.

Press the reset when the device gives the 3 second warning and the manually install your cabs. Unless you want to cook your own extended rom that excludes that stuff...

Go into the \Extended_ROM\ with an explorer like Total Commander and you will see the t-mobile file pick and delete your files you want. reinstall everything. That should work. Or you can always switch to something like the Mr.Clean ROM
Thank you guys very much. I did the soft-reset in the 3 sec time, and it worked, it didn't install the cabs! So, thanks a lot. I don't see any reason for me to mess with the extended rom.
You DO know that nothing in the extended rom gets installed when resetting? You might want to sip through the exetended ROM anyhow just to make sure you're not missing out of anything essential. Just a tip

Vodafone ROM on Cingular Treo 750

I downloaded the Vodafone NL rom update for the 750, and i put it on the memory card as instructed, however, when it flashes, which takes about 30 minutes, when I hard reset as I am instructed to do (in Dutch), the vodafone rom seems to have taken effect because of the theme and the different initial settings when setting up the device, but in the device information, it says 1.13-CNG instead of 1.15-VFE. I am trying to switch to the Vodafone ROM to correct some bugs that are going on with the Cingular ROM, and I used the Nextgen Server to unlock the phone (and supposedly CID unlock as well).. any help would be appreciated!

How is your treo now, i have got treo cingular, and want to flash it with vodafone one, did you find it better, or stay with cingular?
I flashed it on my cingular Treo 750, it work fine and more stable than before!

In treocentral a guy replied me that the following features are also prsent in vodafone one:
1- Direct dialing from the today screen (lookup field)
2- The customized right softkey (menu)
3- Photo today speed dial (I know it is present in 750v also)
4- when u missed a call, u get an option to callback or dismiss.
5- When u dial an unkown number, u get the option to add to contacts or copy and add.
6- Threaded SMS messaging
7- searching for contacts from messages editor.
8- keyguard program.
Did you miss any feature that was in cngular ROM and not present in Vodafone ROM other than those specified? and apart from the stability, what about the fastness, is vodafone ROM faster than the cingular?
Lastly, I noticed that the cingular ROM sometimes miss some missed calls ad i have to go to cal log to verify the missed calls, di u experience such a problem in vodafone ROM?

I am in the same boat as you. I think the problem is that the Voda rom is not digitally signed for our device. I'm not sure though.

According to Palm's Windows Mobile dev guide there is a slight difference in the radio between the Treo 750 and the Treo 750v.
https://pdn.palm.com/regac/pdn/index.jsp
I need the link
Can any one post the link where I can find the files or upload the files here so we I can download them?
Thanks
Which Vodafone rom ...
Which rom did you use on the Treo 750/Cingular?

WM6 in other language than English ?

Palm released the WM6-Update in English now.
How long will they need to release the update in other languages, for example German ?
I asked Palm but they even have no planned release date they could tell ....................

Thank you for contacting Palm(tm) Technical Support.
Your case number is: X-XXXXXXXX
You ask when the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade will be available for the generic Treo 750.
Unfortunately we do not have a date for the release, but the "coming soon" shoul mean about a month.

So updates in other languages seem to be far away ....................
Vodafone Austria has just released the german update >>> www.a1.net/treo
Thanks for you info.
As far as i can see the update version is Treo750-2.18 carrier code VFD,
so Vodafone German.
I'll give it a try.
calico
pls, give us a feedback

Can u give us a feedback on such things as:
Are the alternate symbols working, i.e. umlaute like ä,ö,ü with on click, or do u still have to hit the navkey three times down to choose them?
What kind of branding does this rom offer? A1 or Vodafone splashscreen for powering on and off the phone? Any waste of storage, like program links known from the att rom?
I am really looking forward reeding u'r experiences.
The only branding in this Rom is the Vodafone logo at startup and shutdown. No additional crap and apps like in the AT&T one.To get rid of the Vodafone logo you could make the Treo vanilla by deleting the extrom as described in other threads here.To get the Umlauts just press the alt key.
After the vanilla procedure
CC-Cap : 000-000-001
Carrier DB: 251
Free memory
Data: 54.65 MB
Programs: 28.53 MB
Firmware and OS-build are the same as in the English Vodafone-Version.
The Software-Version remains unchanged.
Well, I cannot update. When I start the original Update I'll get the error, that the update isn't for my device. I have a REGULAR Treo 750 not the Vodafone branded one. So I know it's not the "right" one. Where do I get a patched RUU.exe or something?
I expanded the Updater .exe-File and started the T750URT.exe and he Flashed a ROM, and as there's only one, namely CHEEIMG_FW.nbh I thought I would have WM 6 on it, but I didn't.
So can it be, that I have to unlock my device? Or is it an other problem?
To upgrade you can use the SD-card method described in this forum.
Or try this one:
- start the updater, stop at the first screen
- look at your temp directory, there is a new folder created
- edit the file "payloads.xml", in the section "carrier codes" replace the 3 letters with the letters you see on your treos system info
- go on with the updater (start update)
good luck

have you tried to take the way with the Flashcard?
rename the Cheeimg_fw.nbh to cheeimg.nbh
format the SD-Card, copy file on it, reset while pressing the button below the volume-control and wait
A 750v (what you'll get - Imho) is not able to pull the Mailboxnumber from your Sim (if it's not a VF one) and it is not editable.
Can you imagine to make an Image of your original 750? Because it's german.

If you tell me how, I would surely make an image of my treo 750 without V before upgrading to wm6. I would also love to have an backup, but i got no idea how to do it. And there's no Information in the Wiki.
hmm,
there must be some dump tools in the ftp area. I've never done this, so I can't tell you how to.

Couldn't find anything on the FTP regarding Dumping a Treo ROM.
Will search buzz's site but if I can't find anything there and nobody can tell how to dump, I will upgrade without a previous dump.
upgrade succeeded

CE OS 5.2.1239 (Build 17746.0.2.4)
Software-Version: TREO750-1.14.VFD
Firmware-Version: 1.47.02.00

Extended_ROM for Rogers Treo 750. Get it here!

Here's a rapidshare link I made for the Rogers Treo 750 Extended_ROM in case anyone wants to use it. Just extract the contents of the zip to the root of the Extended_ROM and you're golden.
http://rapidshare.com/files/77578069/Extended_ROM.zip.html
Hope this is helpful to someone.
Any chance of providing me step by step instructions?
Thanks in advance
As well, anyone know if the rogers rom is superior to the ROW 2.23? (Didn't do the AT&T ROM because it doesn't have Live installed; plus got lazy)

Thanks, a few questions thou.
1. What version of the Treo 750 firmware do you have?
2. Does name display work on incoming calls?
As I have an AT&T branded Treo 750 and name display only shows up in the call log, not on incoming calls.
Thanks
Sorry for the delay in response, my computer crashed, and I forgot to check on here.
I'm not sure what version this is. All I know is that I took it from my Rogers branded Treo before I sold it. AFAIK, there is only one version of firmware available for Rogers.
As far as name display goes, it supposedly doesn't work, but try it and see. I never used my 750, just sold it. I prefer my TyTN.

Treo 750v Unbrand

I've completed the tutorial for unlock & debrand from here:
Thread 511763 (for some reason I'm not allowed to put a link here, sorry)
And I've flashed WM6.1 from SD card.
However, when I go to turn the phone on or off, I still get the "Vodafone" Logo splash screen. Also, the VBE Email link is still there, and the Business theme.
The unlock must have gone ok, because I'm using an O2 sim...
Any ideas how to rid myself of the vodafone 'ware? I tried a hard reset after flashing, but it's not done any good.
Thanks!
Hmm, have you tried flashing a different, non-Vodafone Palm ROM instead, like say an AT&T ROM? If it still has the Vodafone logo during Phone On/Off then that's the weirdest case of Carrier embedded Software that I've heard of o_o
By the way, if you have a Vodafone branded Treo like I have, it helps to flash a different Palm ROM onto it. For some reason, Vodafone Treo's have a lot more than 1 folder in their Ext ROM.
I thought the 6.1 ROM I used was unbranded... Or do you mean the radio?

The thing about Treo750 ROMs, they work like this:
Official Palm Treo 750 ROMs contain BOOTLOADER, SPLASH, GSM, EXT, and OS areas. Aside from the first two, "GSM" contains the radio only, "EXT" contains carrier data and program installs (for example the VBE email setup), and OS contains the actual WM6.x.
Custom Treo OS ROMs contain no EXT ROM whatsoever (except for Official Palm ROMs), and depending on the type of WM6.1 you flashed, it will pull information from EXT ROM. That means unless you delete data in the EXT ROM, the OS will continue to pull the CAPpackage and CAP data from there and stick it into the WINDOWS folder.
The thing I mentioned about Vodafone 750v Treo's, is that multiple folder Partition's in EXT (at least in my 750v). The way I cleared that guaranteed was to flash a different carrier's ROM that contained only 1 Partition folder in EXT rom, delete that, then flash WM6.1 over it. Worked every time for me.
That's done it, thanks!
I used 7zip to extract the nbh from the official palm WM6 updater and flashed it via SD. When it had finished all the branding was gone!
