Treo 750 ROM Backup - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

Could someone point me in the direction of how to backup the current WM5 ROM image from my Treo 750?
With the coming release of WM6 I would like to have some way of having a copy of WM5 incase I would want to go back.
Thanks.

u can find
it"s easy www.palm .com sprite backup

You don't really need to create an image, you can get an official ROM from Palm. Since there has been an official update for WM5 devices before WM6 came out

Where is this official ROM on Palm's site? I have never seen one.

It does exist
OS 5.1.195 (Build 14995.2.3.2)
Firmware version: 1.12.0c.00
It has been removed from the Palm site, but it has to be available on serveral sites I guess

Treo 750 WM6 Rom questions

I have a few questions in regards to the Treo 750 WM6 rom
Will the AT&T rom work within Australia?
If no why not?
What skillsets are required to make your own rom?
I sincerely thank you for any help.
This should be in the technical discussion. No need for a new thread.
Moderator, can you delete this thread, please?
Hi snowdonx, welcome to xda-dev.
I don't see why it wouldn't work in Australia - but I can't say for sure so someone else will have to give you a definitive answer there.
As far as making your own ROMs - everything you need to know can be learned here. I'd suggest reading some of the newer guides in the Hermes forum to get started.
To give you a head start - there's a couple basic things to be aware of. First, newer devices like the Hermes and Treo 750 will not allow flashing of custom ROMs, or more correctly, ROMs that aren't signed with a carrier or manufacturer certificate. The bootloader (SPL) enforces this. So the first step in getting custom ROMs on a device is putting in place a modified bootloader that allows unsinged ROMs. The number of folks who can do this is very limited compared to the number of folks who can build customer ROMs.
Creating the ROMs, in a nutshell, involves dumping an existing ROM using tools available here, making modifications, rebuilding the ROM, and flashing.
Hope you enjoy your stay here. =)

Yup. Works a treat on Telstra and if you read through the thread you will see it works on Optus and Vodafone too.
and Three too
Does it work on the NextG network on Telstra? i'm pretty sure it should since HSDPA is included on the Treo ROM Upgrade... and how do I get the telstra software and settings onto the treo as well? Do I need to unlock the sim at all?

wow.......
Hi, I'm in Aus aswell and thinking of getting an unlocked 750V from ebay......just a question about how the IMEI is changed after upgrading to the UNOFFICIAL WM6, what will happen if the OFFICIAL WM6 rom becomes available...are we able to upgrade without problems....i know this has been asked before on other threads but no one seems to know the answer......i guess those that have upgraded to the leaked roms will find out when they try to upgrade the official rom when it becomes available......
Just try the official WM6 ROM in the upload dir on the ftp:
uploads/Treo 750Cheetah/WM6 ROM Cheetah Treo 750v
Download the NBH, put it on an empty memory card and insert it into the Treo
Push the sidebutton (below the volume keys), the right softkey below the display and reset with the stylus (all together) and the bootloader starts and you can upgrade the treo to WM6 with HSDPA enabled.
Cheers mate!
thanks, also what are the main differences between 750 and 750v models?.....apart from the word 'vodafone' stamped on the actual phone.....

the main difference is that the Vodafone firmware has Vodafone presets and Vodafone theme next to the standard Windows themes and settings. (Customisation for Vodafone). In the original WM5 rom, there was no messenger available. In WM6 the Live Messenger is back ! Other than that, I don't think there are other differences.
this ROM appears to come from Vodafone (AU)
CE OS: 5.2.1239 (Build 17746.0.2.4)
Firmware version: 1.47.02.00
so far so good...
So it's almost the same, just Firmware version on AT&T is newer: 1.47.02.00 VS Firmware version: 1.47.25.00
yes, nothing unexpected. (баян)
SecureGSM
Aight. Thanks for the info.

How to dump the WM5 rom from a Palm treo

I'd like to dumb the Telstra WM5 rom from my Palm treo before upgrading to WM6 so I have a backup. What is the best way to do this???
Anyone know how to do this??
Unbelievable. no one can asnwer this question?
Maybe no one know how to dump rom? And even after dump probably it's useless - you cannot reflash Treo with dumped rom.

You might be right.
Is there official Treo 750 WM5 ROM (no branding) available so one can reflash back if WM6 is not good enough?

here you can know how to do

How to install WM 6.1 on UNBRANDED treo 750

I was just wondering how can I install wm 6.1 on my treo 750 unbranded version. I don't want to install unnecessary olipro SPL/IPL as mine is unbranded.
Also i need to be sure that i can put back official WM 6 back after WM 6.1
Please suggest....
Olipro is required for 6.1. It does more than SIM unlock, it also disables ROM signing verification, that prevents you from running non-official ROMs.
There is (currently) no official 6.1 ROM for the Treo. There may never be, but there hasn't been a firm announcement one way or the other.
You can always revert to 6.0 by running one of the standard desktop updaters.
Will it also do away with the Olipro SPL/IPL etc-meaningto say will it roll back EVERYTHING

Yes it will.
I got my 750 ipl/spl updated using the Olipro.. how do I get 6.1 on it now?
I see pieces of information regarding the 6.1 update, but no links to the files needed and what not..
just lookin for a little assistance =P.. I search for Olipro and see it in all sorts of other threads.. is this device specific? or will any version work on any device?

Unlocked and Installed WM6.1 on ATT Treo 750

I read alot, but thought i'd post. I purchased a like new ATT Treo 750 (Locked) and was going to go somewhere and have it unlocked, I get on here and unlocked it following Summiter's steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335661 and then installed the WM6.1 (Rom is here: http://rs86.rapidshare.com/files/97839859/Treo750_OS5_2_19199WWE_STD.rar) Standard rom using the KaiserCustomRUU.exe and man, it is awesome.
The Treo is up and running with WM6.1 on T-Mobile and everything works, even the data connection automatically is configured.... Phone is still branded ATT and still has the built-in crap for ATT .. haven't gone that far, but hey, it works great, a few extra icons, I can live with...
This site is great, and as from reading ALOT of posts, I must say if your looking to unlock or upgrade then do what most people say -- SEARCH & READ -- instead of waiting for someone to hold your hand ...
Any how, saved me $40 from unlocking so I have to donate to xda now
To all ... keep up the good work, especially the ones who take the time to write the step by steps (er..hrmm... cough .."Summiter"..cough) .. You ppl need to appreciate it! ..
Keep it up guys!!
You have 6.1 with AT&T stuff in it? I did not know there was a 6.1 with AT&T stuff in it, are you sure it's MW6.1?
yessir ...
software version treo750-2.25-att
firmware 1.16
win mobile pro 6.1
I didn't unbrand it or anything, i was jus trying to unlock it, and kept crashing at the 2nd step, so i said screw it and just poped in my tmo sim and it worked ... never flashed the radio since i had full bars (sacramento, ca) and them just flashed the 6.1 cooked rom on it afterwards.. and boom! it werks fine ...
but yea, it finally rebooted a 3rd time and proceeded to install the att junk...
ok, installed a unbranded WM6 rom over the 6.1 and no more ATT junk, then installed the WM6.1 rom again and now is clean 6.1 install ...
Ok, now I get it
HI, can you please expalin a little more how to do this.....is this KAISER a program??
I want to upgrade to 6.1 but I'm just afraid to damage my Treo 750.
Is there a step by step tutorial??
Thanks!
PS: I'm already downloading the ROM
I too have downloaded the rom and am ready for or looking for the instructions on reflashing my unlocked palm treo 750. Thanks
Euhm the Kaiser stands for the HTC Tytn 2, so you have tytn2 rom on your treo 750?

Hi, where did you find the unbranded 6.0 rom for your treo? I have the official 6.0 updated WM6.0 rom. I too use T-Mobile and would like to get the AT&T crap off my phone....Thanks for the help!
Do you need to unlock your locked phone to put on the att rom WM6.1 on an att branded phone? I have ATT service and wanted to try WM6.1. Currently i have WM6.
Thanks
Unlocker Application
Where is a link to download the unlocker application for the Treo 750? I did find the link to download the WM6.1 OS rar, but not the unlocker application.

Firmware (ROM) Upgrade Available on UK Vodafone

I see that there is now a ROM upgrade available from vodofone uk
My current ROM version is 1.56.161.4
The upgrade is to 3.28.161.1
Has anyone done the upgrade and was it worth it?
And, if I do the upgrade, do I have to re-install all my apps and data?
Silly questions but I couldn't find the answers I was looking for on the search engine.
Where did you see there is a ROM upgrade available ?
LOL - never mind - I googled it and found this - http://devicehelp.vodafone.co.uk/v1615upgrade.php
A ROM update does a 'clear memory' after updating the ROM on the device, which means that you will have to reinstall all your apps afterwards. Any data stored on the phone will be lost. To be safe, I would backup to Storage Card and then eject storage card before the upgrade.
ok, I guess thar no-one has had experience of the new vodofone rom, but does anyone know if I need to reinstall my apps after the upgrade and do I loose my data?
yes. imagine a hard reset.......
Either use something like SPB Backup and do a full backup before the upgrade and a restore afterwards or re-install everything afterwards.
Experience with HTC original ROM 'upgrade' to WM 6.1 was a disaster

I have no experience with the Vodafone WM 6.1 upgrade (from Windows Mobile 6.0) but certainly the HTC upgrade to WM 6.1 undisputedly has more 'issues' than the original WM 6.0 ROMs with very little benifits at all for me. Have a look at the Windows Mobile 6.0 vs Windows Mobile 6.1 thread (in the ROM development forum). LOTS of users are reverting to WM 6.0 ROMs (having dabbled with 6.1 and given up in disgust in my case). Research fully so you know what you're in for if you do decide to take the plunge and 'upgrade'.
Yes you would need to reinstall all your apps and many backup programs have issues with restoring to operating systems that differ to the version the capture was created on so don't count on it being plain sailing unless you have a simple setup and all your software installation files (checked in advance to be windows mobile 6.1 compatible - not just WM 6 generally) are available to hand.
A fundamental question you must ask yourself is what do I want from the upgrade - I hope it's not better GPS functioning
that firmware is the same as whats on my phone, has been at that version for months now
I have a Vodafone v1615. It was swapped out under warrranty a couple of months ago. The new one has WM6.1 but the ROM version is still: 1.56.161.4 (05/02/2008)
Does not compute

How do you know the new one has WM 6.1? That ROM version is definitely WM 6.0 so something doesn't add up there. What else does it say in settings -> device information and about? Are you happy with it how it is?
from the Settings-About screen: windows mobile 6.1 professional
ce os 5.2.19212 (build 19212.1.0.3)
from device info
rom ver: 1.56.161.4 WWE
rom date: 05/02/08
radio ver: 1.65.16.25
protocol ver: 25.83.40.02h (btw what is this?)
i'd save some screen shots for you if i knew how to
works fine for all the things i need to do. What doesn't work under 6.1 and I'll try it if i can?
