hw6515 Bluetooth DUN problem - Beetles

OK, a friend of mine recently bought a Toshiba Qosmio notebook with built in Bluetooth module. It runs Windows Vista Ultimate and Toshiba (no way! ) Bluetooth Stack. He's also got an hw6515, which he wants to use as a Bluetooth modem for the Qosmio. And here the fun begins.
When I try to pair the devices with express setup, Toshiba BT Stack sees only the PAN Profile on 6515. When using advanced setup it sees the DUN profile, then I select the COM port (default - COM40). After that, when I click Finish, it says that there is no modem installed. When I look up the modem list, I can only see "Toshiba Software Modem (COM3)", I then try to change the COM port to 40 (or any other I selected previously) and it says OK.
Now the connection. When I try to dial the number it says there's no modem installed. When I look at the modem list, there's only the "Toshiba Software Modem (COM3)". I've been using this with other Bluetooth enabled computers (with MS BT Stack and BlueSoleil) and it worked perfectly (installed itself as a Standard Bluetooth Modem, or something like this).
Anyone has some ideas, why doesn't it work on Toshiba BT Stack?

Problem fixed. Should anyone have the same problem, you have to get rid of this gay Toshiba Stack and install Bluetooth Monitor form Toshiba support page.

WM5: Unable to sync with my laptop with Toshiba BT!

I just bought an Asus M6VA laptop (called Z70 something in the US), and it has built-in Bluetooth. I can connect with the serial port OK, I can use the Dial-Up Networking to surf the net with my laptop and the BA as the modem, but I'm unable to get AS working. I have AS over BT working with my office computer, that has a Logitech DiNovo Media Desktop bluetooth, with Widcomm stack. But the Asus has a Toshiba stack with a totally different setup, and I can't get it to work.
The Widcomm stack sees AS and even an audio gateway, so I can use the PC as a handsfree device for my BA (even though the sound's rather terrible), but the Toshiba stack only sees a serial port and DUN on it. i would appreciate any pointers and help!
have you set up active sync on your laptop to connect via bluetooth.you have to click on file conection settings and select allow connection to one of the following and then select the com port your pocket pc is using.also when you setup your pocket pc to connect to your laptop it gives you the option of serial port but you also have to have active sync selected aswell if it does not show up then press refresh.let me know wat happens.
I tried again, and when I connect the serial port, I see "Microsoft ActiveSync cannot recognize this device for one of two reasons " and then it suggests that it wasn't connected properly, or that it isn't a PPC or smartphone.
I have the serial port on the PC set to Com6, and AS is set up to allow syncing through that port. On the PPC I have outgoing port Com 0 (just about the only port I could get it to accept, but I tried one other, I think it was Com 9, and that didn't help). I have done a bunch of refreshes but I can't see active sync as an available service on the laptop. I belive that's the problem, since I could see that on my office computer, and that connected and synced without problems.
In AS on your laptop delete any previous partnerships with your PDA. If possible, delete any laptop partnerships in AS on your PDA as well. On your PDA, go to Settings -> System -> Bluetooth Settings. Choose to start AS setup...
It sounds like your laptop may be using the MS drivers... There should be an option to make your laptop Discoverable, but I'm not very familiar with the MS stack... more familiar with the Widcomm. Look for something like Advanced settings in the left window pane...
Let us know if any of that helps!
I have tried that , but clicking on the Start button gives me a window "Please bond with other Bluetooth device which supports serial port or Active Sync profile as your AS partner". And I have already bonded! Bonding again doesn't change anything.
http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/579009962631/m/519002845731 use these instructions that is what i did and it worked fine.let me knw
Nope, it doesn't work at all. Like I said in the first post, this is not a Microsoft stack, it's a proprietary Toshiba stack, and it doesn't have any of the setup windows or settings that this guide mentions.
You've probably thought of this....
Maybe you need to manually create a serial port to your PDA... When you paired the PDA to the laptop, what services were you offered? If Serial port is available, create the connection, note down the COM#. With BT started, in AS allow synch via new BT COM port...
Yes, I have tried that, and it didn't work.
I finally managed to do it! I found a way to use the Micro$oft BT Stack instead of the Toshiba one, and now I'm finally set up for AS over BT with the guide mentioned above. Thanks!

Bluetooth PAN and Vista

Thus far, I've been unable to use my AT&T Tilt as a wireless modem for my Vista laptop. I've partnered them in the MS Bluetooth Stack, then gone to Windows --> Internet sharing and set it to bluetooth pan and media net, then on my computer, gone to "connect to" and opened the bluetooth pan connection. Unfortunately, at this point, my phone doesn't show up as a devic for bluetooth pan. If anyone can offer up some advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
I would also like to add that Bluetooth PAN also doesn't work for me in XP (SP2). It doesn't show up in the the Bluetooth Device Wizard (the one used to add devices with PAN services), but clearly broadcasting is enabled in the options.
Also, just as a side note, I can't get USB tethering to work either...I'd really appreciate any help I can get with this tethering problem. Thanks.
Got it working. I have no idea why, but for some reason when i tried repairing it for the sixth time or so, vista suddenly decided it had drivers to install for my tilt, and it went ahead and installed the modem driver. now everything seems to be working.
By Bluetooth or USB? Or did you get both working?
Why bother with Bluetooth or USB headaches?? Just use WMWiFiRouter and connect to your phone over Wifi.

Pairing Diamond with OSX

I can't seem to pair my Touch Diamond with my MacBook Pro running 10.5, they can't see each other via bluetooth at all no matter which side initial the search. I wonder if there is anyone came across the same situation and have a solution or any ideas what may went wrong.
I have tried with the original stock rom and two different cooked rom, still no luck...
which sync software do you use on OS X ... i'm using "the missing sync 4.0.3" ... everything works fine
I just want to pair them with bluetooth and use PAN to use my data connection.
Any idea?
Do you want to use the data connection of your Mac? I only was able to use the data connection of my diamond via Bleutooth-PAN. The other way around seems to have an issue.
I have posted this question also to the discussion forum at apple.

About pairing both (Mac and Diamon) this works for me (MBPro OS X 10.5.4). Have you enabled the "visibility" of both devices during pairing?
Hi,
Its possible to use the Diamond as an internet modem with OSX.
I had tried to get this to work for the last couple of weeks.
It really depends on your bluetooth dongle. I had success with Cambridge Silicon based chipsets. I had a Belkin one and another generic one which didn't work.
You need to pair it from within OSX. You'll know its successful when it displays an option for joining bluetooth PAN after pairing. You'll have an option to "Join Network" under the paired device submenu in the OSX Bluetooth menu.
Once its done, all you need to do is start ICS on ur Diamond and select Bluetooth PAN, than Connect. After that, select "Join Network" on ur Mac and off you go!.
You can also connect the diamond to the USB port for power.
I tried USBModem which didnt work.
My laptop is an Acer 5570 hackintosh. Hope this helps.

Probably a stupid question but have you ticked the box on the Diamond that says "Make this device visible to other devices"?
It can be found under Communications - Settings menu - Bluetooth
and it's on the Mode tab.
I want to use my ICS via PAN, and I can't pair my Diamond with my MacBook Pro with bluetooth, they can't see each other no matter which side I initial the search and I am sure both of them have turned on the discoverable option....
I can pair my diamond with my iMac ONLY if I disable TF3D!
I use Eltima SyncMate (epert edition) to sync and it's working great.
Only if I leave TF3D on the driver on the diamond will crash.
Luckely it's quite simple to disable TF3D n a few clicks.
(Start>settings>home>unselect TF3D>[OK])
Eltima has updated their drivers.
It works now:
Syncing (folders, contacts, mail etc etc) while TF3D is running
There are a few solutions available in case you have not already solved the problem:
The free part of SyncMate works well for contacts and calendar and supports internet sharing
http://mac.softpedia.com/progDownload/SyncMate-Download-28111.html
I am running OS X on Dell 1525 with Bluetooth Internet sharing with HTC Diamond, and syncing contacts and calendar with SyncMate with USB Bluetooth as a matter of routine.

Sync with bluetooth

I like to sync my Diamond with my Vista-computer and " Center for Windows Mobile devices" through Bluetooth.
I have a working connection with USB already, but want to skip the cable.
I can pair the computer with my Diamond but the only services I get on the Diamond is "wireless stereo" and "serial port".
Been trying to read every instruction on both the bluetooth connection in Vista and on the Diamond but it seems I cant get the service-choice I need to be able to sync my outlook and so on.
Any suggestions on how to get my bluetooth connection working?
Have a look at the link below for links to a pdf download which has an in depth solution to the problem you're having. It's specifically for the Toshiba bluetooth stack and it works if you follow the instructions carefully. If you're not using the Toshiba stack, I think it should still give you sufficient clues to configure the bluetooth ports to work with activesync.

Thanks for the link but when I get to page 11 step 16 in the pdf it says you should get wireless stereo and Active sync. I get wireless stereo and serial port as my choices.
Don´t know if that´s because I use Vista and Center for Windows Mobile Devices (The new version that has replaced Active sync in Vista and that should make it soooooo easy to connect mobile devices instead of Active Sync.
I'm guessing you're using the default Microsoft Bluetooth stack with Vista? If so, ActiveSync should be available when you pair your phone with your PC. If not, check the Services tab for the phone in Vista's BT manager applet, it may need to be ticked in there.
I use BlueTooth with WMDC all the time with my Diamond and it was as simple as pairing then going into ActiveSync on the phone and selecting Connect via Bluetooth.
I´m not sure what bluetooth stack I´m using. I think it´s Toshibas but how can I check that?
I had to install Toshibas application to get the drivers for my bluetooth device and I think a got the stack at the same time.
Is there a way to shift stack if I use Toshibas instead of Vistas default?
Please take a look at the attachement to see my gui for bluetooth, and the Center for MobileDevices (Instead of Active sync) on my Vista machine, and what happens when I connect my Diamond through Bluetooth. Sorry about the language but it tries to install the Diamond as a Bluetooth modem and that´s the only thing I seems to be able to install.

Bluetooth: Will not connect to Win7 PC

I can pair my Velocity (Telstra Oz Branding still with stock OS) with a Windows 7 32-Bit pc but it will not connect. During installation (& under Device Manager), I get warning that Windows could not find the driver for "Bluetooth Peripheral Device".
I have no issues with pairing or connecting other devices on either the Velocity or the PC - it's just between the Velocity and the PC. I've just come from the HD2 so I'm a newb with this Handset which was fine.
I can on the PC "send a file" to the phone just fine but no PAN or tethering...or are these features not yet part of Andriod 2.3.7 or is there some setting I don't know about?
Thanks
Nathan

Had the same issue with mine.
1. Instal HTC Sync
2. Pair set your phone discoverable.
3. Search for bluetooth devices from your PC.
4. Select your phone.
5. After pairing your mobile go to
Start->Devices and Printers right click on your phone name Properties then Services tab, choose only
Advanced Audio - tick if your bluetooth pc is compatible or leave it blank
EMAIL - leave blank
File Transfer (Obex) - tick
Headset Audio Gateway - tick if your bluetooth pc is compatible or leave it blank
Object Push (Obex) - tick
Remotely Controllable Device - tick if your bluetooth pc is compatible or leave it blank
SMS - leave blank.
Then on your PC right click on Bluetooth icon choose Join Area Network and select your phone.
Hope it will help. This resolved my issue.
But just to let you know My HTC Raider is not able to receive *.apk extension over bluetooth. MP3, jpg perfect.
Mmmm looks like my handset is only advertising that it has EMAIL and SMS as "Services" to the PC. Do you know if I need to install anything on the Handset?
Thanks
Nathan
I don't know what PAN is, or maybe I just dont recognize the acronym, but you should use the wireless hotspot for tethering, much, much, much, faster than BT.
FYI - Straight from Wikipedia:
=============
Bluetooth vs. Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11)
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (the brand name for products using IEEE 802.11 standards) have some similar applications: setting up networks, printing, or transferring files. Wi-Fi is intended as a replacement for cabling for general local area network access in work areas. This category of applications is sometimes called wireless local area networks (WLAN). Bluetooth was intended for portable equipment and its applications. The category of applications is outlined as the wireless personal area network (WPAN). Bluetooth is a replacement for cabling in a variety of personally carried applications in any setting and can also support fixed location applications such as smart energy functionality in the home (thermostats, etc.).
Wi-Fi is a wireless version of a common wired Ethernet network, and requires configuration to set up shared resources, transmit files, and to set up audio links (for example, headsets and hands-free devices). Wi-Fi uses the same radio frequencies as Bluetooth, but with higher power, resulting in higher bit rates and better range from the base station. The nearest equivalents in Bluetooth are the DUN profile, which allows devices to act as modem interfaces, and the PAN profile, which allows for ad-hoc networking.[citation needed]
==================
One benefit of Bluetooth is it chews much less power as the range is limited. I'm guessing the profile is not in 3.2 of Andriod so I'll wait and see what ICS brings.

Hello, have you got installed drivers for your bluetooth dongle? it looks like there is only basic microsoft service/driver automaticly installed. Usualy bluetooth module has got Broadcom chipset. Try to find out what make it is in device manager on your PC. Did you try to pair another handset to your pc? If behaviour is the same on your PC that means you need drivers for your bluetooth module. Check if cd was included with bluetooth when you bought it.
Yeah on my HD2 (WinMo 6.5) I get DUN and PAN (Windows Bluetooth services reports the device supports DUN, SPP, Telephony). On my Tab I get DUN (Windows Bluetooth services reports the device supports DUN). On my Velocity I get sod all (Windows Bluetooth services reports the device supports Email and SMS).
Win Device Mgr reports my BT Radios as Apple Braodcom Built In and the MS Bluetooth Enumerator.
Thanks
Nathan
I usually just tether via wifi and charge it off the usb still, then i can have it plugged up to power but if I need to take a call I can always disconnect it breifly without interuption to the internet... I've never really gotten on well with BT, I always found it cumbersome... that and my main laptop doesnt have BT... so wifi or usb is the only option
