T-Mob UK release pushed back to October - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Well 08/09/07 is out of the window.
Was told by a customer service rep yesterday (who i have been dealing with for a few years now and is very reliable) that they have had to push it back to late October.
This is due to customers buying the Kaiser from Expansys etc, putting a T-mobile sim in and finding certain processes failing, ie Web n Walk, GPS etc.
So it needs further testing before they release it officially and can support it with no bugs.

Bullsh*t. First off, Kaiser has been released like 2-3 days ago, so how many of such customers are here already with that kind of problems, that T-Mobile could actually carry out 'further investigation'??? Second, I have T-Mobile's SIM card with web'n'walk, and so far no problems noticed! 3G/HSDPA, videocalls, GPS - all works out of the box, without troubles at all.
Personally, I think it's just crap talking. Anyway, even HTC's official press release last week (AFAIR) said that T-Mobile's release is due October...

Works fine, however I was disappointed with free map of London I've downloaded. It covers central London + zones 2, 3, maybe 4 - roughly. It surely doesn't cover Heathrow area, where I live. :/

is the tomtom you get with it a time trial? if so ill stick the version ive got on my vario with my uk and western european maps on it

It's not time limited, both TT and free map. You need to pay extra only when you want to download more maps.

ok well ive got a "fix" for tomtom so ill stick with the version ive got now. well its arrived and charging. just had a quick play with it before i let it charge...it was hard putting it down heh.

Gah you had me worried there
I should receive mine soon, i'll let you know if i have any issues! (on T-mobile as well).
Fingers crossed!

Cheers for that. What would i possibly gain from making that up?
Wont bother next time, but lets wait and see eh.
As for specific issues, she couldn't or wouldn't tell me, but when i asked if it was a data or gps problem she said it involves those processes.

I don't think eva_d was calling bullsh*t on you and your post, but on the T-mobile rep and thier reasons for delaying.

Yes, exactly. Sorry Schooleydoo if you took it wrong.

I was going to wait for Tmobiles branded version, however:
a) T-mobile have made it look like a dogs arse.
b) When i spotted it in stock on device wire, my credit card couldn't resist!

unfortunately / fortunately, i have a safety system for such moments of weekness.
It's called "Wife"
(We would have no money what so ever if this system was not in place.)

I have exactly the same safety system in place, and actually I never believed I'm going to get Kaiser on the very first stock release (in fact, I also was hoping to get Vario III), but well.. let's say my safety system got loose a bit in this case.

T-mobile October release date?
A T-mobile (UK) business customer rep called me today to say that my business contracts are coming up for renewal. When I said I was holding off renewing to wait for the new Vario he said that although he didn't have specific dates it might not be till late October :-( ! And because he didn't have specific details he couldn't even confirm whether there might be a hanset charge (or how much it might be). He did offer to reduce my monthly line rentals by 66% though for an upgrade with no handset so I'm thinking I'll take that and use the £ saved over the contract term to buy an unlocked Kaiser straightaway

I hope it is crap to be honest, but have heard from her again since and have been told i can buy one from phones4u etc now, they will reimburse me but not give any support. However if the phone goes wrong, they will replace it for a T-mobile version next month.
Tempting

Could you please clarify this? T-mob said you can buy and unbranded Kaiser (though i assume not from phones4u as they dont sell it i think), then they will give you the money for it, and if it goes wrong they will swap it for a branded kaiser???

Reason for SPV-M2000 Delay

Spoke to Orange today about ordering the new 3G data card and we got onto the subject of the M2000 and I asked when it was coming out, as it is always saying "Coming Soon" on the site. He explained that Orange withdrew it and are waiting for HTC to fix a major bug with it. The bug is when the battey is completely flat all data on the device is erased.
He doesn't know when this will be made available, but should be "soon". I wonder if the XDA IIs have the same problem.

I think HTC has already released that patch. By the way is available in the Extended ROM I have posted here for SVP M2000
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=15924
I the patch is this one and it should solve the battery problems.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/OEM_BA_11230401_WWE.sa.CAB
It's availbale in their own internal ROM but they're not able to give it to their customers.
C'est bien ça France Telecom ))))
I called orange upgrades, they claim to have the handset, but they are reserved only for business customers.. and offered to put me through to the correct dept to discuss account change then do the upgrade!

Did you follow thorugh on this? Are you able to and how much would you have to pay. My phone is on its last legs and ive been waiting for ages to get my hands on one of these buggers...
No, business talk plans gost more, and in comparison you get less, so i'd rather stay on a personal account which i can still put through the company books
also i am only 6 months through a contract with a blockia
I bought a sim free pda2k

Well I got my M2000 first week of December, a free upgrade on a Talk 30 plan which I barely use. I switched SIM's with my main phone on my business account, couldn't believe my luck in getting it free
My g/f got her M2000 the same day, cost me £114.99 for it, on her 120 min normal online contract. She never tried the "well I can get one from O2 for £xxx...." trick to get it cheaper like I did.
I think it all depends what operator you get when you call Orange.
SVP M2000 loosing data after battery drain
I have had my M2000 for about two weeks now, its the second one I have had as the first one just seemed to have constant bluetooth errors. :x
The new one I have updated the Bluetooth to build 3500 from this site and installed Fax from one of the ROMs on the site.
Orange have also told me that the phone was only for business customers, they also told me that it had been discontinued and that it had major bugs. BOLLOCKS to them, they do not even respond to email and I have been a customer for 4 - 5 years. Most of the reps dont know what they are talking about, even worse are the tech support people. :x
On to a positive note!!
I think its fantastic, I had a SE P900 before and I loved that phone but this is great, I can run my CoPilot Live 5 GPS software on it and connect to my wireless network, internet, play games, marvelous.

I have several friends that work at an AT&T Corporate store and they have told me that they have heard the first of the month it will arrive. I think maybe we should just save ourselves the discomfort and just see wtf happens. There are many opinions and everyones anticipating its arrival but what I dont get is given the fact allot of us have awesome devices currently why the constant hysteria?
Its not like were all using razor phones and are waiting to experience windows mobile, or a modified rom, or the wonderful H on our phones, right?
Just my .02 cents but seriously how many times have we seen a post similar to this with a different date/ device name etc...?
I am using a RAZOR and by the time this thing comes out i will be to got damn blind to read that tiny screen after all the back and forth to all the messae boards this is driving me nuts!

I would venture to say that is way off , due to the amount of people that do know att reps including myself that already are being told they will have the device there to sell early this month. I am just gonna be content for my 8525 for the time being and just wait to see what happens.
Really though, the third is 4 days away. Don't you think SOMETHING would be made official by now? What is the problem with releasing a date anyway? Where are the ATT project managers on this one? Did AT&T not learn anything from announcing the date of the iPhone over 6 months in advance?

Well frankly I think they are a bunch of assholes but that could be due to me acting like an impatient child LOL. I personally have done online sales for almost a decade and I would say if a hot item was to be released and we gave our potential customers this half assed information, it would be someones job, period. I can appreciate how one company may operate differently from another but I definitely agree with your comment.

Do you think the the bugs will be fixed for 8925?

I just wanted to know that should i wait for 8925 or get a TyTN II now?
do you think that the current bugs that people mention that TyTN II has, will be fixed for 8925 or not!?

My view - If you wait for an 8925 it will not change any of the "bugs" (IMHO small ones - but it depends what is important to you). Also if you get a branded version it may suffer the usual "bloat" that comes with that.
A better reason to wait might be price, but then that could take quite a while to drop substantially.

We will have to look into our crystal ball to know for sure.
Crystal Ball?? We're talking AT&T here. It's a magic 8 Ball. You don't think there's any logic behind those answers they give do you?!

I'm still doing my research on this too, so this probably already has an answer. But when updates come out (if there's not already one, or a dump/cook?), 8925 users could go unbranded pretty easily. I'm just wondering if the 8925 will use the same general scheme for simlocks as 8525, and if so, if the 8525 unlocker could work, or be easily adapted. I'm intending on using the 8925 with tmousa, even though in my area it's only got gprs . Figure for $550, I could cancel my att and save a lot just keeping tmousa, and hopefully it'll have edge buildout or something by next year. On a side note, I wonder why they got rid of irda. I was hoping to be able to use my phone as a remote control (if they even can.. i remember my old nokia s60)

T-Mobile is coming out with the Kaiser also but when we have no idea.. Also T-mobile is going to be using the 1700Mhz for there 3G so pretty soon we will all have the Kaiser with every carrior!
Cool. The thing is that I'm kind of stuck at the moment and not sure what to do. I've been selling phones during the summer months and going to school during the rest. For the first summer, I sold a lot of phones and was in good terms with the tmo indirect guy. He told me he'd let me keep my dealer line even though I went on hiatus until the next summer. However, when next summer rolled around, I heard that the guy got promoted somewhere else in tmo. I never met the new guy who was supposed to visit our kiosk. Same went for the third summer. Now, I'm back at school again. Still on the smartaccess since I was only 18 with no history when I first got the dealer line.
I'm not sure exactly what my internet includes, since it seems to be on and off what I'm allowed to do. But in any case, out here in ithaca, ny, they seem to have pulled away from the market. I was originally debating a parttime here during the year, but they're gone now. Currently, on my 6682 that I'm using with tmo, I'm only seeing gprs.
I'm a little afraid of calling into tmo since it's a dealer line, and the site I worked at has changed dealer codes since my line was activated, so I'm afraid it'll run into trouble. Anyone have any insight?

WM6 on Nov. 6 - says treonauts.com

I hate the guessing game as much as anyone, and I think the people who play it are idiots and only serve to piss off the folks releasing the update.
That being said, Treonauts.com is now reporting a likely date of Nov. 6. Yes, 2007.
Most peopl that already have the Unbranded latest version of WM6 probably wont find anything different from the carrier official version other than the logo
Wouldn't surprise me. I was told by someone within Palm Australia that they're hoping to have the Telstra version out by the end of next week. Perhaps the two ROMs have been developed in parallel, since they're both similar types of network (850mhz UMTS).
talking with palm tech support.... this info is horse ****. the palm tech guy said cingular has approved it and it is back at palm for final testing and release
I was talking with my African Grey Parrot about this, and he confirmed the 6th of November. I asked him "When do you think the WM6 release is going to be for the ATT Treo 750, because I heard it was November 6th?". He looked me straight in the eye and said "November 6th". I said "Really, November 6th ?" and he said "Really November 6th."
This is really great news. Now if only he would stop smoking all my cigarettes.

Why do people have their panties in such a wad over the ATT "official" release??? You have several WM6 "official" releases from Palm to choose from. What silver bullet do you expect to receive from the ATT version???
Please, enlighten me...
My local ATT store doesnt have the Treo 750 anymore, they said they stoped sending them for some reason. So maybe there getting wm6 and getting sent out, but who knows just an opinion.
the big deal is that what is added,, they added push to talk, cellular video, HSPDA, AT&T music, upgraded radio firmware, and countless other upgrades

My friend, you are misinformed or lacking in understanding of what is a service and what is an enhancement/added functionality from AT&T. The only "enhancement" you offer in your list is the radio firmware - which is questionable as an enhancement over what has already been offered elsewhere.
I wish you luck in keeping the dream alive...it is Nov 6

Its funny how many people want the AT&T Rom. I on the other hand will do all to get a Unbranded ROM.
Even when I had Motorola phones I would always flash the factory Monster Pack on it or get a cooked one.

I agree 100%, nothing productive comes out of stating something just for the sake of stating it. Not trying to drag this out, but again you misunderstand. I was not "being mean" to you my friend, but pointing out that you may be misinformed or misunderstand the technology. The productive message being to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and experience this site offers - I know I have.
I'm done with this one - Cheers
well you see i know people whowork for palm, and people whowork for cingular and this what they are telling me is being incorperated. honestly if younot a cingular user and are from another country these features will not be of much to you but i am and i am looking forward to them. if you have played with a Cingular Tilt youwill find the treo 750 will have the same capabilities as it as well as the added push to talk and HSPDA.. I talk to my buds at palm everyday..

Orange Diamond Stock

As I am an employee of Orange I thought I would let you know...
We got an email to day to say there are 3000 handsets "in testing" at the moment, it might not be until August that Online Sales, Phone Sales and Stores will see these handsets. By then they will be Orange Branded.
I would take "in testing" to mean they are putting their own version / skin on the TF3D...um NO!
There was ONLY 413 handsets delivered to ONLY the top 100 stores so thats why they will be hard to find if there are any left. These lucky ones where the "Generic" ones.
I was just lucky I was working the day they where delivered to our store and I got my hands on mine or else I still wouldn't have one...No handset charge, £21 per month, 600mins 2000 texts, 250Mb internet bundle, and Free Insurance.
I work in a top 100 store and we only got 4, I bought mine and we sold the other three in 2 days.... We now have waiting list of about 25 people.... deep joy!
Oh! And from what I have been able to gather from speaking to our Tech Support team Orange's HSDPA coverage is pretty much non-existant unless you are in London and you are sitting on-top of a radio mast, so you may aswell switch it off.
I am finding some funny issues with mine at the moment though....
If I receive 2 text messages one after another (within 30 secs of each other) then the phone vibrates constantly until I take the battery out....anyone else had this?
Also, I installed TomTom 7 on it and for some reason "sometimes" when I call someone once the phone call is connected TomTom starts up all on its own....
The only software I have instlled on the device is TomTom 7 and the latest version of the TF3D config.
the phone is running the following configuration:-
ROM Version: 1.37.405.1 WWE
ROM Date: 12/06/2008
Radio Version: 1.00.25.03
Protocol Version 52.26a.25.09W
.G.
I was told by the Orange rep today that the 3000 were about to be released. They're not going to test all 3000, just a small sample.
Then there'd me no more stock till August.
If that turns out not to be the case then I'll cancel my upgrade.
well im sending mine back on monday so there will be one more lol for someone.
any idea when the toutch pro will be coming out (the reason im sending the diamond back)?

Touch Pro is a HELL of a lot thicker, so if the sleek look and feel of the Diamond is your bag it's not quite there with the Touch Pro.
It's not a 'better' phone as such, more aimed at those who demand QWERTY and extendable storage, though it does still look pretty cool.
Release date is allegedly september 1st, but this could be delayed all the more (remember the Shift anyone?)

Oh! And from what I have been able to gather from speaking to our Tech Support team Orange's HSDPA coverage is pretty much non-existant unless you are in London and you are sitting on-top of a radio mast, so you may aswell switch it off.

If HTC launch the phone on September 1st then "IF" and only "IF" Orange decide to sell the handset just add about 2 Months to the launch before you would see it in an Orange shop or be able to get it from Orange direct.
e.g. The Diamond was launched, when?... Middle of May?....Only made it into Orange stock 2 months later.
DO NOT phone Orange anytime soon asking if they are doing Touch Pro as we only get about 3 weeks notice (if we are lucky) as to what the phones we will be selling, so nobody will be able to give you an answer, they just want to keep the hype down so that they don't sell out faster than they can get them in.
Also NEVER trust the instore magazine, in my 2 and a half years at Orange I have never ever seen one that has the truth in to for example the July Mag is the first one to have the Diamond in it with it's specification and not as a "Coming Soon" phone, and the mistake they made? They said it had a 5.0Mp camera. Another fave of the magazine people is to publish phones in there as coming soon but then never sell them!
So if you want to Touch Pro on Orange don't hold your breath, you might be lucky and get it just in time for XMAS!

Also, if you don't like the answer the call centre person gives you, phone up again 5 minutes later - you get a different person and a different answer!
Keep ringing until you get the answer you like. lol
Can i check sth with the person that works for Orange? If we flash our diamond to a better and faster ROM and then sth happens and we have to send it back under warranty, does this invalidate our warranty? cause if we have a generic ROM on the handset, we can always claim it was one of the first ones that were not Orange branded, right?
Thanks

I would say do it, I've never heard of anyone being caught out in two years...
From a legal point of view it does invalidate your warranty...
As they used to say on "Blind Date"....
The Decision Is Yours.....

But does it?
I have not read my current T&C, but I found nothing in previous T&Cs to say specifically that that altering the ROM would invalidate the phone warranty.
Technically if the phone is faulty, then it can be returned under warranty and unless the fault was caused directly by the owner/user, then the warranty should be honoured. So if the ROM change caused the fault then you are out of luck, but just because the ROM as been changed, does not mean the fault is the cause of that - for arguments sake a faulty screen or panel button
As this is an electronic device, then updates and enhancements will naturally become available and so its reasonable to assume that these can and should be applied - arguably in the same was as a PC can be upgraded.
But for those not in the UK, check local laws

Sorry, I'm tired, I was getting things confused in my head, removing the SIM LOCK invalidates the warranty unless you get Orange to do it.
ROM updates are ok...
Sorry bout that...

Coolio! I can update my ROM and its OK!?
I ordered my ROM last saturday online from the Orange website....came on the Tuesday. No Orange branding! Just a small Orange logo on the back of the phone!
Got a few admirers at work. Everyone says its far better looking than the iBrick!
Still in love with my Artemis though! Got iGO8 on both!! ;-)

Good news... now i only have to wait for the diamond to get back in stock as i am eligible for an upgrade on Thursday.
Strange that Vodafone have the handset in stock (in Cambridge anyway) and Orange claim it's going to take a minimum of another couple of weeks... anyway...

Thats because all the original delivery has generic HTC software on it, the team the "bastardises" the phones are running behind schedule at the moment.
.G.
How can I get them to send it to me without them bastardizing it?
