"Clear storage" to re-use expensive trial software - Wing, P4350 Herald Upgrading

I have some 60 day trial medical software that costs a pretty penny. By using the "clear storage" function, the WM6 registry etc should be returned to factory fresh state, right?
I'll use a virtual machine to install the software to my Wing. That should work right?
NS

yes, in theory, it should work.
However, it's like killing babies. Don't do it.
Support the developers, they really need it.
And i'm being nice.

The software in question is at www.epocrates.com
If you want to make yourself feel a little better about helping me to not support this developer (which I DO appreciate, even though I was 99% sure it would work anyway)
1. this program costs $199 per year
2. Over half a million health care professionals use their products (they aren't a struggling, almost-certain-to-fail startup)
3. as a 3rd year medical student, I'm just under $200,000 in debt and before I graduate you can tack another $60k or more onto that
4. I may someday be caring for the medical needs of you or someone in your Monkeysphere
Thanks again, xda rulez!

wow thats quite an expensive subscription...but I guess its worth it for an important up to date database such as this.

We will remind you of this when you have had a few years of practice under your belt and we don't pay YOUR bill. I mean after all, after a few years and many hundreds of patients, you won't be a struggling start up operation either.

already interesting. Although 18 replies for now, already you see that this XDA product is used by young people and not the 'Managers of the world'..
I think this poll is more likely to show that younger thinkers will be attracted to a forum such as this, more than the profile of actual users. I guess I am a manager in this world, though I'm also a hands-on person too. I'm in the technology business because I love technology, and I love making my life easier and more interesting through the application of technology. The XDA is one of those things that has delivered business value for me AND is a fun thing to have. I look for excuses to mess with it and experiment, which is why I am here.

I've heard. In my part of the US, we get what we call "snowbirds" for the cooler months. They are old people who should not be driving any more who come down for our warm desert climate. They drive huge vehicles with no competence and no eyesight. Fun on a bike.
im only just 17 i picked up my xda for a bargain on ebay £190 exellent cond was dropped and one corner has a dent in (near the ir lens) but it works fine come with everything not even used  i wanted a 7650 but i seen this for £190 so i got it ive had it for about 4 months now still going nice and good. I like it because it is like a pc and the games are brill and also i wanted mp3 lol
36 so I must be mature....
but also on two wheels. Some say it's immature but I didn't have the money for a bike when I was younger and I will never lose interest in technology and gadgets.
I have one example that this will stay that way. My mother in law (haha you say LOL). She is much older but is very interested in PC's and technology and recently started with some serious digital photography.
hmmmm, two paragraphs already and I still haven't convinced myself that getting older is no problem
I'm 18. I'm in the US and bought the XDA as a reward for myself after working full time all summer as a computer programmer for the local telco (BellSouth).

i have a Piaggio X9 500se - its a scooter. i know it isn't a true motor-cycle but due to past accidents on 'bikes my ability to change gear is limited - or should i say non-existent. so it's a scooter for me, although it looks like a motor-bike.

I love how she beats around the bush on EVERY question. Simple question, the woman asked her "so is it safe to say that you two agree on gay marriage, you did say you didn't agree with it right?" And she goes on for 45 seconds talking about gay marriage! Haha hilarious. After she was done the woman asking questions was just like "ooookay... so you agree, now let's move on."
I see the education system of this country has been corrupted by CNN and MSNBC.

I know Palin isn't qualified to run our country from far more than her debate tonight. It's nice to see you go ahead and criticize so quickly, I'm sure you'd love Palin to lead your country then? Hockey mom with 2 years of experience as governor of what? Oh yeah, the 2nd largest city in a state that has 683,000 people. New York City has roughly 8.5 million, and the man who was at the helm of that for a decade wasn't qualified to be president... But a woman who has 1/5th the experience and 1/100th the population under her is surely built for the job. If you think these candidates haven't carefully considered and weighed the options for every question and topic they spoke about tonight, tell me, why would they be running for president? They've prepared, they know what their stances are on every subject, and the debate is simply an opportunity to put them up against each other. I think you're the one who's misinformed or undereducated if you think this is a Jeopardy show-down for who can answer questions fastest, it's just a way for the people to see these two doctrines in direct comparison.

I see what you're saying, overall the presidents don't seem to stack up to what's been said about the past... But I think GWB is about to complete such a giant failure of a term that it skews our opinions on these things. Let's hope for a better future.

Actually I think Palin is a bad choice, but when I do vote I don't vote who I want to be vice president. Please share with us your infinite wisdom, in which an election was decided based soley on the vice presidential canidate. I do remember in 1992 when a man named Bill Clinton ran from a "small" state called Arkansas. I think he did pretty well as President. Just because somebody doesn't have vast experience in governing a large group of people doesn't make they disqualified from being a leader.
Do I think that picking Palin was a bad choice, yes. It was a political move by John McCain to gain votes. Will it pay off, I don't think so.
People are just so quick to judge somebody. I personally like the fact that she doesn't have vast experience in Washington politics and brings something new to the table. If you think policy and decisions by the president is made solely by themselves, then you sir are misinformed.

So you're saying Palin isn't qualified to run the country, but that's not a reason to vote against McCain/Palin. McCain is 72 years old, did you know that'd make him the oldest president in history? There's a good chance, with the high stress level of the job, that a 72-76 year old won't live through his entire term. Here's a shocker, who's president then? Palin. The part that bothers me though, is that McCain is just as much of a liar as Palin is... And a few of his positions (the war mainly) are enough to turn me away from him, he said he plans to be in Iraq for another decade... That's ridiculous. HAHA I just read the last sentence of your post, and here's what you're saying... "They don't need to be capable of making the decisions themselves, because no decision is made solely by the president." WAKE UP to the real world, regardless of how many people are advising them, a bad president can still **** things up (see: President #43). Do you want to compare Palin to Clinton? Bill clinton was governor of Arkansas (an entire state, not a town) for 12 years. So here's what you're comparing to be the same. Clinton: 2,350,000 people under his governance for 12 years. Palin: Governor for 2 years, and get ready for this population, it's 10x less than even I thought... 9,780. Oh man, you're sooo right, there's no difference between 12 years and over 2 million people to 2 years and 10 thousand... Palin's just as qualified!

He was an Illinois state senator from 1997-2004 and on the US senate from 2005 until present. He didn't get captured in another country 50 years ago, but I'm sure that would've made him much more qualified to be president. I think some people like to forget when talking about McCain, the man has 12 houses and a wife with more money than god, he's not the person he was 5 decades ago. He'll be just as conservative as GWB, and I love how he says he'll "shake things up" in Washington and end corruption... 7 of his major supporters are lobbyists, but I'm sure he's going to be the one to take them down... Right. The simple fact that everyone has heard 500 times but still ignores, McCain has had the same stance as George W. Bush on 90% of the issues that have come to question. Are you guys happy with the last 8 years of presidency? I know I'm not.

iphone v diamond

I just posted on another forum (not a phone forum) about my diamond. I actually did it in a thread about the new iphone, not to hijack so much as to tease. Anyway, someone decided to reply "complete ****" about my new diamond, compared to the iphone. Obivously the guy is a moron, but out of interest, is the iphone superior and if so, by how much? Is it regarded as a pocket pc in the same way the diamond is, or a smartphone? Does the iphone have a stylus, and can you put as many apps on it as windows mobile phone?
Is it as versatile as the diamond?

Android. The theif.

Doesn't anyone find it odd that we are paying out huge sums of cash for a Linux based OS that is free to use?
Because the cost of the handset doesn't factor into it at all :face palms:
I mean they handed us a broken toy and we fixed it for them with no pay and they sold it back to us as an update, now we are fixing it up more. Hopefully when Android 114.6 rolls out some devs. will for a union of some kind and make some cash from big business instead of settling for the 2.99 that their brothers and sisters are downloading.

But who is it that decides the devs have been screwed. Is it you? I think that honor goes to each individual who bought the phone. You don't get to determine that someone else has been screwed just because your panties are in a bunch over something related to your phone.
The cost of a non open source operating system on a phone is going to be so heavily subsidized, I'd be surprised if the additional cost was more than a couple of dollars/pounds/whatever. Bottom line is that you're just paying for the device whichever route you take.
Also consider how long android has been out, it is definitely the quickest maturing mobile platform around. Anyone remember the state wm was in at this age?
Edit: I think the developers would rather be "screwed" as you put it in order to bring about progress in a timely manner. That's what open source is all about!

First off, that's a toaster I want.
Second off, you're absolutely right. It's not about the money, it's about taking your phone to the next level and being able to say you were the one who got it there first. I and thousands of others have nothing but respect for these developers and a lot of us give them both props and donations for their work. I'm sure the donations are nice, but I doubt there are many devs on XDA who started writing ROMs and compiling kernels because they thought it would make them rich.
Don't understate the motivational power of random people coming into your thread to say "Your work is awesome, keep it up, and how cool would it be if it did this too?" For some people the respect is all they need, since genuine respect can't be bought, it can only be earned.

Wow, someone is either grumpy or cant take a joke...
You'd expect to pay money for a computer with no OS wouldnt you...
Well the same goes in this case my guessing.
Id rather have 1000's of people thanking me for my work than a few £100 in the bank if i was a dev....

Ok we whatever, I just got an Android phone and I hate it so I'm gonna get something windows. This is my first experience with Linux on a handset and if the developers wanna get screwed let them, forming union isn't hard we did it where I work, well we joined one but it makes everything a dev does worth money. Good way to make a living.

WOW. if you think unions are the answer, you have bigger problems than just android.

Lol..same here

Ready for the bin!

I can gladly say I've had enough of WP7!
I'm sorry........it's crap!, It was flawed from the begining. The updates should have been there from when WP7 was first introduced, not too mention the lack of anything decent on the operating system. Shall I sell my HD7 or use it to keep the door open! Hmmmmmm.

It's not all it's cracked up to be. New Samsung models will wipe the floor with it.

I'm afraid so. WP7 having the basics would be nice.
There's an array of Sat Nav's available for WP7, Free and Paid for?
Not entirely sure why you've felt the need to post this in the HD7 section... probably just to start an argument I guess?

Grow up! I'm talking about the HD7 if you'd bothered to read the thread....
I started the thread as I find the phone about as much use as a book end..........and not much else.....
This is a serious thread folks, nothing to do with trolling. I own a HTC HD7 with WP7.......looking for a number blocker and decent sat nav....(I find the sat nav software on offer to be poor quality)
Peel many labels off drinks?

Nice of you to vent on the people that may be able to help you before asking the same people for assistance with your issues.
Humility is lost on the keyboard warriors, now off to the android forums with you so you can join others who are just as frustrated with their choices as you are. They will most probably fursnish you with the argument that you crave, just choose a handset/OS version at random and call that crap too
Good luck with your next choice, maybe try to utilize the 30 day cool down period this time huh.
Kind Regards,
Creamy
