How do you install maps on the TomTom? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Do i need to update to Navigator 6
or can I install it on the TyTN II with the taster edition?
Thanks.

Navigator 6 works fine.
Taster edition also works fine. In fact the supplied Tomtom is the latest version 6.032 that has "internal GPS" setting.
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330235
Personally, I use the supplied TomTom 6.032 + my purchased maps.

same here, the taster version is the latest software, all you need is to purchase the maps.

From my understanding, you need to use the TomTom Home program, which can be installed from the TomTom site, which I have done, but I am curious how to connect the Kaiser to the pc to import/export maps to and from the kaiser. I am assuming it will connect if you are connected via activesync, although I am at work and cannot check that at this moment.
JB

I just copied the maps via explorer (actually Total Commander with the CE PlugIn) to my Storage card \maps directory. Then went into the Software on the device and chose the new map.

Me too ... I just copied the map folder to the root directory of the Storage Card.
TomTom will recognize it.

TomTom Maps
hope this will work for other Kaisers too ;-)
1. installed TomTom ttn_6_032_8351.cab
2. went through TomTom's initial setup and downloaded/installed a free map from htc/TomTom website. Going through initial setup created a few folders (including voices) in MyDevice/ProgramFiles/Navigator
3. closed TomTom
3. Since my original TomTom discs were lost, but still had their backups, found in my library "TomTom 6 + US & Canada Map 6.75.iso" and burned DVD (932MB).
5. using Windows Explorer accessed MyDevice and copied 2 folders from the disc:
a) folder "voices" to MyDevice/ProgramFiles/Navigator (package includes English UK,Deutsch, Dansk, Catalan, Vlaams, Turkce, Svenska, Suomi, Norsk, Nederlands, Italiano, Francais, Espanol. For additional voices google TomTom free voice)
b) "USA and Canada 675_1409" into root directory of SD card.
6. re-started TomTom
7. TO CHANGE THE MAP
went into Main Menu (1of 3) -> Change Preferences (Preferences 2 of 5) -> Manage Maps -> Switch Map. It didn't work the first time, but after second or third restart in Select a Map there was USA and Canada.
8. TO CHANGE THE VOICE
went into Main Menu (1of 3) -> Change Preferences (Preferences 5 of 5) -> Chage Voice. Used one of the arrows (left or right). Answered NO for the following question "Do you only want to select from voices in the same language (English US).

Hi there,
I have tried to follow your advice but have no luck. I have the htc hd mini and whenever I try and download the free maps it says "Error. This device cannot download a free map. Download failed. Contact blah blah blah.." If anyone could help me out here it would be GREAT!
Thank you,
Alex.

Question
I get the message “No GPS Device” after installing Navigator 6 on my HP iPAQ 6510 or 6515. How do I select the internal GPS receiver in my iPAQ 6510 or 6515?
Answer
To select the your HP iPAQ 6510 or 6515's internal GPS receiver using Navigator 6, see following instructions:
1. Open the File Explorer and browse to the folder Navigator.
2. Delete the file navigator (be sure not to delete the file TomTom Navigator or you will need to reinstall the application).
3. Start TomTom NAVIGATOR 6.
4. When prompted, select Other NMEA GPS receiver.
5. Set the GPS baud rate to 4800.
6. Select Internal AGPS NMEA.
there is no sound after installing tomtom 6 and restard it?
hi
you have an answer to rename the btavui but I don't know how do it?
pleas help me or
send an e-mail at : [email protected]
thank you
Explore your pda with active sync. Open the folder windows. Rename the file "BtCoreIf.dll". Do a soft reset and the sound should be working now.

COM7: (maybe Other NMEA receiver, I don't know) at 57600 bauds.
The ipaq internal GPS is weird, and will be activated ONLY with the correct speed. Real port is on COM7: and using 57600 bauds speed
COM4: should work too, but seem to be linked with AGPS, which require EDGE or GPRS connection.
6510 and TomTom 6
I was following the link above. I have just installed TomTom 6 on my HW6510. I can get the sound working by renaming the file above. However I can't select the internal GPS receiver by following the instructions. I deleted the file Navigator (under the directory navigator) - on restarting TomTom this just asks me for preferences (language, left / right handed etc..) it does not give me any options for selecting the receiver.
I must be missing something but don't know what.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hard reset. Then make sure you have an up-to-date version of Tomtom 6. The first release wouldn't let you choose it as you first install it. In that version you would have to go to change preferences and find it in there. It wasn't hard but it was well hidden. If you have an up to date version it will ask you right when it installs. Good luck.
com7?
i dunno why , but my hp doesn't show com 7 anywhere. there are com 1, 4,5 and 9. but not 7

kaiser 8925 tomtom problems

I just bought a 8925 and tomtom 6.203 but i am installing it from the SD card. i cant get it to work at all. i copied the tomtom info on to the sd card and can install it on to the phone but it does not work - says 'no maps found' and it doesnt give me the same options as listed in this post - it doesnt offer to 'configure the GPS select other NMEA GPS receiver Click select' its like it skips that step. i dont know if this is even an issue but locating maps are!
i created 3 folders under the tomtom folder on the SD card - total size is 1.6gb
1. north america 675
2. tomtom 6.2 cab file
3. alternative voices
i've tried to leave the folders in that order on the sd card and also put everything into the tomtom navigation (once it was installed) just to see if tomtom is looking in a direct folder. nothing!
i have installed tomtom to storage card not the device (but i did try that as well and same thing)
Any ideas? any help would be much appreciated!!!!
Sean
Did you read the instructions?
tomtom no maps
figured it out - it was the bluetooth explorer - it needed to be shut off in order for tomtom to work... DONE! no i cant get the voices folder to be recognized - anyone know?
I feel like a dumbass. I purchased navigator 6 and us/canada maps from Amazon and seemingly got quite an old version. I'm running 6.030 software and 660 maps.
hope fully it works is iowa missing?

Getting Tomtom 7 / tt7 to work LEGALLY

Having found and read the threads I can on the subject, I want to install Tomtom 7 (tt7) on my Diamond (I purchased the phone whilst on a trip to HK and it didn't have it installed), and to hook it up to Tomtom Home on my pc to purchase maps over and above the taster maps.
I've loaded the application cab from a thread on the Kaiser forum (which most people seem to agree is not Warez), and downloaded TT home 2.3 from the tomtom website. Have got the free taster map, but now want to buy more maps. However, I don't seem to be able to get Home to talk to my device.
From reading the threads, it's suggested to move the application from "Intern Gegeugen" (where it installs), to the Program Files folder. However, doing this breaks all the shortcuts.
Can anyone either provide a cab for the application that installs to the right place, or give me some step by step pointers how to get it all working? Would really appreciate the help!
Oh - and should anyone from Tomtom chance upon this post, the sooner you get your website and Home explicitly working for TT7, the faster I'm sure people like me would actually be buying your products- seems you've done the hard part of actually developing the software, just not making it easy for people to buy it right now!
That's interesting about moving the install folder... I haven't tried that. What I did do though was to uninstall Home 2.3 as I encountered the same problem and install Home Navigator 1.5. From there, you can just purchase maps of your choice. You need to link the device to a 'GO' device as they are the only models using version 7 software.
Hope this helps

Place the contents of "Intern Gegeugen" into My Device/Program Files/Navigator on the Diamond. Connect via Activeynch and finf TomTom Navigator.exe in the above folder. Right click, choose create shortcut and paste that shortcut in My Device/Windows/Start Menu/Programs and rename it accordingly.
And after that you can connect with tomtom home 2.3 (for PDA). First you choose your memory location, get an error, go back and your device is connect.
I've just given that a go and moved the install onto the internal storage. It all still seems to work ok. One question though, other than free up the main memory are there any advantages/disadvantages to running the app from internal storage? (i.e. does it run slower from internal storage etc)
I find if you install TomTom 7 on the internal storage, TomTom home 2.3 comes up with an error, installing it the the internal memory TomTom home picks it up fine.
I have tried the above, but still cannot purchase any maps. when I Click on the maps i just get the message 'No Items Available'

same for me! tomtom home recognices my device but can't really communicate with it.
i use the maps i get with me touchcruise/xda orbit2, they are version 6.75.
connected with tomtom home 1, device can get connect. i used the maps from cdrom and could install them. afterwards i activated the map on my device using my product code card, no problem :-D
Only TT home 1.5 is compatible with Navigator.
What I did was upgrade my TT6 maps to the latest then using TT home transfered the maps to the device and installed TT 7 after. works well
I changed TT6 into TT7 and I could use the same maps. All is working fine.
One question:
TT7 does not get a fix, when phone is not on. I found it today, when I use Tomtom in a car about 10 minutes. I stopped and turned phone on, so Navigator 7 got the fix easily.
I have not agps on.
In Artemis I did not find this kind of symtom with Navigator 6.
i have also tomtom 6 with maps from my o2xda2. i've installed the maps from cd over tomtom home 1.5. it installed successfully. but in tomtom 7 on my diamond i can't still use the maps.. they aren't listed in manage maps?! what do i wtong?!
please help
i don't know, i just installed tt7, not 6, then connected it with tomtom 1.5.
put the cd in and i was capable to install the maps.
yeah... i did the same! all fine! but when i start tomtom on diamond i can't change the maps. i only see the demo-map. you can?
yes, i can. i even never installed the demo map. you know that you have to choose/change map in order to see the right one?
yes i know... but there who i can change the map i see only bern (demo-city-map)!!!
Not being a SatNav user I did this
I am not really a big user of SatNav as I read the signs on the road.
However, I am a lover of toys and have always kept a copy of tomtom nearby for fun.
I installed the XDA linked TT7.cab file (11.9mb) and directed it to Internal Storage.
Then I went online and created myself a tomtom account. I went through the maps purchase wizard stating my device was a GO 720 model.
I then purchased the 7.2 Great Britain and NI Map. £29.95 - even by my standards a bargain.
I then downloaded Home 2.3 and connected my Diamond as a disk system.
When the Diamond came up it challenged me to select the location of my product and I chose Internal Storage. It then promptly through up an error message.
I did a back and continued. When I went to MAPS etc it didn't find my map. So I clicked on the Update Pocket PC icon and there was my map.
It didn't take long to download and install (161 MB ish) and now I have a working TT7 with the 7.2 map.
I could also update the Pocket PC with free voices and POI's too from the TomTom website (although I have forgotten the steps just now).
The advantage is that I have a working, reliable, sexy, copy of Tomtom 7.
The negative is that I don't seem to be able to use MAP share. This is not a big deal for me (as I never actually use Sat Nav anyway!). It didn't seem to matter once I had bought the map what I set the device to be - PDA or GO 720.
I hope that this is useful as a legitimate way of getting Tomtom 7 onto your Diamonds...and all for £29.95.
I have done this twice - once for me to play and once for the missus to actually use.
Not a bit of Warez anywhere - for 30 quid why bother with Warez?
All the best,
Sam.
I tried the above method and HOME 2.3 just said that the map i purchased was not an available device for these maps so the checkbox was greyed out...any ideas...maybe they caught on?
need a response please!

No it's not a case of have they caught on. TomTom 7 the application on a PDA is not supported on TOMTOM Home 2.3. You need to use 1.5 . This is beacause at the moment only PNA devices are supported on 2.3
The Maps which you purchace to activate with your device to make the application work have not been released yet for PDA so you have to use backwardly compatible maps . 6.75 etc until you can purchase ver 7 maps
As for Warez the licenceing is with the maps only and not the application which is available to download from TomTom . If you was to load hacked Maps then this is WAREZ as the Licence is with the maps. You can only use your brought maps with one device and that is the device you purchaced it for. Hence you get the activation number from your device as it is device specific.
You cannot if you purchased maps already from a different device use them on another device . This is the License law and you need to purchase new maps every time you cahnge device . You can email TomTom support but they will tell you the same thing.
All maps are 30% cheaper at the moment, because they'll release the new version in the beginning of August.
The 30 price reduction is not for Navigator user as I found out last month.
As for only using the Maps for one device (true in a sense) though I managed to activate via TT home my maps twice on my Trintiy (as the Device ID changed once when I flashed an early ROM and activiate the same product code again for my Diamond - which is indicated on the TTcode website as three activations.
I have purchase new 6.75 maps for my Navigator 6 and know these will work on version 7 once on general release.

TomTom 7

Hi all
I installed Tomtom7 yesterday, but could only install the blue version. The black version always failed to install. I have the latest 7.9 version.
I can only start TT via the file explorer the the today shortcut link does not work. It only beeps and that is.
I have also a proper TT account for safety cameras and traffic. when I connetc the PDA I can download pois, cameras etc. However I don't see them in the poi list? In TT home it shows as installed.
When I copy my old TT6 overlays into the map folder the show on the map.
The traffice update and warning work fine however..
Any ideas?
nobody really?
Which ROM are you using?
the standart WM6.1 from HTC.
I have figured out how to create a link and add stuff to the menu by now.
I have also seen a Speedcam on the map and can sync them via tomtom plus service, but still dont see them under any POI menu,...

Tomtom POIs ---> Help please!!!

Hi All,
****** Update --> solved, I searched for poi.dat, to find 2, it seems I had some installed a duplicate copy of the map folder in SD card\my documents\ I dragged & dropped *.ov2 & *.bmps to this folder & it worked how it should, phew!!! thanks for looking
I've been using tomtom navigator 7.915 for around 3 months on my TD2 (topaz) & it's fantastic, except I can't seem to add any extra pois.
I have dl'd extra pois (*.ov2 & *.bmp files) from tt home & the net, I've dragged & dropped them over to my to the following folders:
1. map folder on my SD card (GB & northern Ireland)
2. installation folder (sd card\program files\navigator)
I've even tried the pois from that were working on my old pda (loox 720) all without any joy, when I go into the tomtom program on my TD2 (topaz) I cannot find any trace of the pois I've added (either by navigating to them or by using the 'show poi' utility in the preferences menu.
Looking at the files there is a poi.dat file in the map folder, do I need to hack this some how? This seems to be extra to any version of TT I have used before.
I'm guess I'm likely missing something really obvious, only I've been trying to sort this for a few months now & cannot find any help via searching here & tomtom forums. So any help will be gratefully received.
Cheers,
Martin.
Go to the map view, look up the "options" and see whether the POI visibility is checked. From there you can also select which categories are displayed.
This is the simple solution. Hope it works.
