on O2 in 11 days ? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I did see a thread about this somewhere on here but can't find it now.
I called O2s XDA team who said that Stellar (?) will be released on the 15th. Can anyone confirm this as I (meaning Google) can't find any reference to O2 releasing a new XDA on the internet or shall I just move over to T-Mobile?

Spoke to a mate of mine at O2 today, he told me that they won't get this anytime soon. After that I went to the O2 Store, and told them that I'd have to switch providers unless they could tell me that this phone (or any other exciting smart phone...ie HTC Omni,...) would be released on O2 before the end of this year. The guy told me not to hold my breath. ;-)
So now I'm with T-Mobile, and I have to say the phone looks much better than I thought (usually the silver t-mobile finish is quite ugly). Good deal as well.
Hope this helps ;-)
H.

It's definitely coming to O2
Hi,
It's definitely coming to O2 soon. I know someone in the device testing team and they've had several in test for well over a month now.
Only thing I've heard is that in the O2 ROM there's no HTC Home ... so you need to install your own.
Brian

I spoke to the XDA line at O2 on Friday, and they said sometime before christmas...
Sooo waiting until the 15th, then getting a bluetooth GPS and sticking with my Uni (XDA Exec) if a more firm date isn't available!

I've just been on the phone to O2 about cancelling my contract with my O2 XDA Mini S, which runs out in a month. They asked about why I was cancelling it, and I said about moving to T-Mobile for the Vario III. I half expected them to say "well, we're releasing a very similar product in xxx time" since my contract isn't fully up yet, but all the guy said was to check the website for other phones and touted the XDA Trion (TyTN) as a phone to look at.
Unless he's just not a very clever salesperson, I wouldn't expect anything new on the O2 XDA scene for quite a while, or he would've probably tried to get me to stay and wait for it. Plus, they have a certain other phone they may be trying to push to the "smartphone" market coming out in a few weeks...

I had the same experience, so I got my PAC code & am awaiting my T-Mobile MDA Vario III

Hahahahahaha, you actually think most of the sales staff are clever.
I'm sure some are but most don't have a clue.

I don't mean to be funny but the Apple iPhone is far from a smartphone its an ipod with phone guts. Its about as good as the LG Prada phone which feels ****tier than a bush walkman from the 80's.

Totally agree, there is nothing "smart" about the iPhone. It is, as stated, an Ipod with a phone attached. No push contacts, tasks, calendar or email. there are lots of nice animations on it that make it look pretty but as with most mac products actually make it slower to use.
Anyway this is way off topic, any news on the Kaiser on ot. I suppose the day will come when the thread title is actually true

I totally agree about the iPhone, about unfortunately it seems everyone jumps on bandwagons rather quick these days, and I reckon O2 will try and push the iPhone as something that it isn't. They'll be telling everyone to buy that instead of an XDA, and keeping back new XDAs so they can milk the iPhone to unsuspecting public.
But I like to think the people on this forum, especially, are wise to their ways, and anyone still on O2 will be swiftly signing up to T-Mobile anyway! Just like me

Anyone else have any updates ?

T-Mobile UK MDA Vario III - When?

I see that the T-Mobile UK website now as a "coming soon - expected September" entry for the Kaiser, but when I emailed customer services about when we could expect it, all I got was a "when you can buy it on the web site, then its available, but not until then" type response.
Does anybody know when T-Mobile UK will be releasing this puppy? I want one
Are you on T-Mobile already? They're selling them through the upgrade department now (I ordered one yesterday). Can't say what their plans are otherwise though.

Thanks for the info, but I'm currently with O2 for my phone. I have a 3G card from TM, but its not due for upgrade yet. I guess I'll just have to be patient (or else fork out £450 for a SIM free one.).

Is your Vario III on pre order or have they dispatched it too you already? Can I ask how much they charged you for an upgrade and what plan you are on? I'm planning on getting this device too.
Many Thanks

Check my thread here for all the info!
If it helps I spoke to Craig in their upgrades dept. I just asked him about the phone and he said it's already out. He checked his sheet of available phones and confirmed it was there, then said he'd double check with another department and would call me back. 10 minutes later he called back and said yes, they're available now and I'd get mine sometime next week.
Now I'm all excited and can't wait for it to arrive!

Cheers dude! Thanks for replying.
But i've just come of the phone from the TM upgrades dept, spoke to a nice lass and she said it hasn't been released yet, she said to call back in a weeks time as she said they may be released then. She made no attemped to offer me another phone so I kinda believed her and we ended the call there.

Negative Not Phone yet
The phone have not been release yet, they don't even have a release date i believe the Upgrade Dep. because their objective is keep clients, so we have to wait.
Hmmm, I guess we'll see what happens next week then. I'll let you know as soon as mine arrives, and there's nothing by Wednesday I'll give them another call.
Just got off the phone to "T" the chap I talked to seemed very nervous and when I asked about an upgrade he was all "mmm oh, I might not be the best person to help you but I'll see what I can do, but if i can't I'll find someone who can", seemed a good bloke, but it must have been his first day or something, anyway, playing on his naivety, I coxed him through the system and he confirmed that there is no date or price on the system for the VarioIII yet.
Having dealt with call centre people for many many years I have no reason to doubt this fella, but come on T-Mobile, it cant be far off now!

They'd better not be, as that's what I ordered first. My phone conversation went pretty much like this:
Me: Hi, I spoke to you about half an hour ago and ordered a Vario II upgrade?
Him: Yes, I remember...
Me: Well, I was just looking on your website and I notice the Vario III is due out this month.
Him: It's already out!
Me: Really?
Him: Yeah. Just let me check my sheet here... Yes, it's here, it'll cost you an extra £30 over the Vario II.
Me: Awesome, I'll do that then please.
Him: OK. *pauses* Just let me double check it's definitely available. I'll call you back in about 10 minutes?
Me: OK, thanks.
10 minutes later my phone rings...
Him: Hello, just letting you know that phone is available and I've ordered it for you. It'll be there next week.
Me: Fantastic. Thanks a lot.
And that's it! Unless the guy was lying to me, it seems like I'll be getting it next week, although why he'd feel the need to lie I really don't know. If I end up with the Vario II, I'll be calling him straight back and sorting it out.
Like I said though, I'll keep you posted as to what happens.
Edit: I just thought I'd point something out... This guy originally phoned me about upgrading (he knew all of my details, including my last bill value, so was definitely from T). I can only assume that the upgrade dept that calls out is different to the one customers call themselves. Either that or I've become the victim of a pretty elaborate scam!

vario iii won't be out until late october or later down this year thats what I have been told by t-mobile so I end up getting a simfree kaiser. It could be hoax call or someone from different phone organisation tricking you to get an upggrade but will end up been a new contract to them.
If it is a hoax or a different company then I'll find out soon enough. I've only told you exactly what they told me. It seems everyone that asks is getting a different answer at the moment, so maybe I just got lucky. I don't know what else to tell you other than watch this space!
Any joy on this yet?
I know 3 people waiting to get their hands on the Vario III.
They should have just bought a SIM free one like I did
Scratch that.
I just called T-Mobile business in the UK and the guy said that they will release the MDA Vario III hopefully this week!!
Mine hasn't arrived yet, although the guy quoted Tuesday at the earliest so it's no biggie.
Called CS again this morning, and was told, could well be first week in october. At that point i said i may as well get my code and leave tmob. to which i was then told actually should be this week .... Hmmmmmm...
I was quoted "Coming in October" when I spoke to the upgrades dept.

Who else is still waiting for the O2-uk tytn ii?

Alrite, O2 users
let's see who else is in my position
My O2 contract is over
still with O2
being stupidly patient with them not even having a confirmed release date for their version of the kaiser or the rumored XDA Stellar
being so tempted to move to T-mobile
even been offered a fantastic deal
PLUS t-mobile is using HSDPA and have the best mobile browsing tarrif and service
only thing is,
the t-mobile version of the fone is UGLY
and also
im pray pray praying that O2 retentions would give me a better deal, AND maybe they would come out with a better looking version of the phone.... that way i can myself the hassle of moving my number around
all i can do now is wait
what do u guys think?
I switched to T-Mobile on a WNWplus tariff. When I phone O2 to cancel, they offered me £100 credit on my bill plus lower tariff than currently. But since they could not even tell me IF the Kaiser was coming out, I switched. Got my MDA Vario III in 48 hours and my number was ported in a week or so (until then I used call diverts to my temporary number).
I'm waiting. It's a work phone upgrade so I don't have a choice on the network.
I've just had to ask them to wait to do my upgrade
Thought i was the only one....
NO You are not alone!
I too have been waiting patiently, and ive gotten rather frustrated too, i called up o2 and have not been told when the phone is coming out or if it will even come out.
Im not sure if i should just go to expansys and get the phone from there. But then ive also been advised to wait since if o2 DO release the phone they might offer a better deal...
Im very happy you started this thread.. i thought i was the only one waiting..
btw, november 19th is the "latest" release that ive heard of..... (ive also heard dec/jan... i guess noone actually knows)
I just spoke to them and they said Nov to me as well
guys dont want and just switch to t-mobile.
Even if you get kaiser in o2 Data plan is rubbish - 200 or 300 megs only...
i know it sounds a lot but with tmobile unlimited data plan there is so much less to worry about.
after more than a year having wizard on o2 and now having kaiser on tmob i'm finally discovering what a pda is really for! email on the move, browsing internet whenever i wish to, listening to favourite internet radio on the way to uni and many more.
and hsdpa.. omg how fast it is... I'm lucky to be from Edinburgh where whole city is covered with Hsdpa range!

I switched from O2, since I figured December at the earliest for the XDA Stellar - they don't want to poison their precious iPhone launch, do they?
The T-Mobile phone is a thing of beauty. It's not the cool black look of my XDA Exec, but it's actually very nice. The pictures don't do it justice, IMO.
O2 retentions tried to fob me off with a crappy 200Mb for £7 deal. When I pointed out that T-Mob gave me 5 times as much, he simply assured me that based on my current usage (nil) I'd never go over that. He didn't have a comeback when I said the reason I didn't use their data at the moment was because it was horrifically expensive.
He did offer me about 50 minutes for £8 per year, but that was just to keep my number on their books, and I wanted to transfer it over, so I declined that one.
Also, O2 are downgrading their networks from 3G to EDGE so that the iPhone can get better-than-GPRS speeds. T-Mob are upgrading to HDSPA - it's even in Macclesfield! (well I was impressed )
Also, as mentioned, T-Mob give you 5x as much data per month as O2.
I switched.
Think about it.
I had a line with both I was tempted to wait till o2 got there act together but as I already used my orbit with my t-mobile chip, the choice was simple.
I wanted to see if o2 were going to get the device looking as good as the orbit, but I am glad I didn't wait as the device is so much better than I could have imagined.
The speeds are amazing in comparison, not worth the wait go with t-mobile imho.
Only benefit with possible o2 issue is the all black looks (like orbit) but by the time that comes out better options will already be on the horizon.
Why not get a Vodafone v1615 (Kaiser)? It has a beautiful shiny black back and looks really nice.
I got it for free because my bill this month was quite big
Today O2 announced that they are going to drop the 200mb FUP.
So unlimited will really mean unlimited.
I don't know if that only applies to iPhone customers (unlikely) or everyone.
Hi Just like to say i too am waiting , waiting waiting zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz for it on O2 UK as the T-Mobile service around my home and in London City is still appaling.
ive asked o2 if teh 200meg FUP is lifted for all users but have had no reply as yet.
The Register think it'll (at least to start with) be for iPhone customers only.
What does this mean? GPRS and EDGE only. So it's harder to download more, since you're getting it so much slower than HSDPA.
I get HSDPA on O2 now in London. They are rolling it out.
Strange thing is, I only get H on my phone when i am actually using the data.

I belive that is how it is meant to work.
My contract is up in a month so I am waiting to see what o2 do. My mate who is an asst manger in an o2 store told me Dec/jan
So will have to see
Kimbie
I didn't wait, and even forfeited a month of my contract. Apart from the lack of the XDA Stellar and 200Mb limit, I've also noticed O2 have deliberately invested in sponsorship deals such as The O2, as oposed to new technology. The iPhone is a prime example of their lack of commitment, as they have taken the 'easy' technology option.
I checked today and the O2 XDA Stellar (IE TyTn II) should be avaliable on the 27th of november. this is subject to the clearance of current stock of the XDA Trion (original TyTn).
also the 200mb limit isnt really invoked only if you use around 1GB will anything be checked as the codes to add this to the system show a 1024mb limit in place on the £7.50 bolton
Oh well got a Vario 3 now on TMob
Kimbie
I got mine as an O2 upgrade a month ago from here and it's the original HTC phone, much better than the crap O2 will probably roll out themselves
http://www.theorder.co.uk/o2/upgrades/deals/HTC/TyTN II/O2-Upgrade
I rang 10 days ago to get a PAC code to transfer to my Orange Tytn II. They offered me the Stellar on November 19th for free with unlimited data for £7.50 a month with 500 mins and 500 texts on a 12 month contract for £25pm
The Orange Tytn II is going back tomorrow as the reception is awful where I live and work, which in turn is killing the battery.
I'm hoping the rollout hasn't been pushed back.
hi there?
they're giving out offers for the stellar ALREADY?!
that's not fair
i called them 2 days ago for my pac code and the best they can do to make me stay is saying to me "well, it's up to you..."
who did u call? o2 retentions or xda
did they promise they will have it delivered by the 19th?
and... how the heck duz the stellar look like?
hummmmm

so who's switching to the new iphone in a month?

New iphone??
Seems like 3G iphone is ready for delivery. I wonder if it has GPS as well. That could very well make it something to consider as an alternative to the Kaiser... I love my Kaiser, but my wife has an iphone and it does do certain things better. With Jailbreak, there are plenty of cool apps too. I even found a voice command app. Pretty much fill most of the gaps...
but it still doesnt have the hardware qwerty keyboard for me and i'm not a iphone fanboy...just me though
I'll jump ship to the iphone if they update their browser to support flash. i'm still disappointed that after all this time (deepfish, opera 9.5 beta) their isnt a comparable browser out there for windows mobile. Opera mini is really good, but not as good as it could get

inside info suggest that the device will start below current two year contract price or significantly less I received information that the device would be between 199.99-299.99. We will see in about 12 hrs if Jobs mentions pricing.

Vodacom which has the largest user base in South Africa has been granted the distribution rights for the Iphone. Vodacom is 50% owned by Vodafone and 50% by Telkom, the local fixed line operator.
We will be getting the gereration 2 version, but apart from it's 3G capabilities we will have to wait for the announcement today. Shipping will apparently start immediately.
The only down side here is that we do not have a Itunes Store so we cannot use that side of it's functionality.

Howzit basilrsa,
Nice to know that there are other South Africans here!!!
I am not an iPhoney fan anyway, so I will wait for the TyTN III or the SE Xperia X1 maybe.
In the meantime my TyTN II ROCKS!!!
Again, good to meet you boet!!!

WWDC starts at 10 AM PDT, we will get the final specifications then but sites like engadget say:
- It will be 3G (a given, any phone is nowadays)
- But it will not have a front-facing camera for videoconferencing (it seems that it's not a known thing in USA, so if USA does not want it, Apple does not include it)
- It will have GPS receiver (nothing surprising, adding GPS to a phone is only $5)
- No hardware keyboard, typing with finger on a 2.8" screen does not convince me
- As always, closed system, very vendor-centric, very few applications you can run there.
I thought they moved to an open source setup.
I know this is a dumb question, but I rather ask then not know at all. Will the 3G IPhone be able to flash the Window 6.1 instead of there OS. I ask because I don't know if it was a Hoax or if it was for real.......I saw a Iphone that had the WM6 on it. This was a while ago that I saw it............
edit:
I looked more closely, it's not only a hoax it is a fake Iphone...........I'm sorry for this waste of space I just used up..
3g Iphone....
So 199 out July 11th... think it will be unlocked by then? If so might need to try it out, even though I hate apple with a passion.
Just announced... 3G iPhone... For those who care, Engadget link.
I'm thinking I'm going to try out that new iphone. If it sucks and I don't like it, I'm only out $200 and then I can most likely sell it on ebay for more than i paid...haha.
is it 200 with a new contract or without?
i'd suspcect with
as apple cant get their cut of each mb downloaded if iphone3gs are sold without a contract
Personally I still cringe inside regarding the Iphone. My next phone will be either a X1, HTC Touch Diamond Pro, or the Nokia N96 (can't go wrong with an internal 16GB + SD slot for additional memory + accelatometer(sp?). Variety and change is always good though.
I'm sad that it still uses the same lame camera
I kinda wanted an iPhone but only if it had GPS...the new one does....hmmmm....let's see!!!

Goodbye Mr. Tilt

The HTC Tilt is going EOL (end of life) by the middle of December from the AT&T lineup. The latest Windows Mobile 6.1 update was just recently released adding new life to the device and is available for current owners on the HTC support site. The sucessor to the Tilt has not been announced but is expected in Q4 of this year.

The Touch Pro being branded as the AT&T Fuze?
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/09/05/atandt-page-confirms-htc-touch-pro-as-fuze/
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/09/08/atandt-fuze-gets-fcc-approval/
so ive seen alot of people get att tilts when they did a warranty exchange from att 8525 because they didnt make them anymore..think thatl be the case this time? i sure would love for my tilt to have problems early next year when the touch pro is out and get a touch pro in return
i think the TILT has had a good run!
lately, i have come to the opinion that the TILT has had a really good run. as i can't find a branded Diamond or Touch Pro, its had almost a year of exclusivity, and with this community, it has been a truly enduring product. if it just had the drivers and a great camera.
but here is my question, i got this in early Oct, and I have had one exchange for a near-perfect refurb. that was in july. if this thing (externally) craps out in some way once the year manufacturers warranty is up, does this mean you HAVE to get insurance beyond the year if you want to be able to exchange (for upgrade if its all they have sure, but i am not entitled to that) once the warranty is up?
My problem with saying its had a good run is that even the next gen of HTC being released have very similar specs to the Kaiser. The only problem with it is the graphics drivers and HTC should get a swift kick in the balls for obviously EOL a device that for all intents and purposes is still a very good phone. If they would release the drivers for it I wouldnt be going to a goddamn android phone in 2 weeks. **** closed source I am all about writing my own drivers if I need them.
I don't think it is HTC that is EOL the device, AT&T is. With the new Fuze/Touch Pro/Raphael coming out sometime after October, it does not make business sense to continue to support the Tilt.

I don't know of anywhere that you can purchase insurance for it. Do you?
(AT&T doesn't sell it. I tried to purchase from my homeowners...they would'n't do it).

AT&T does offer insurance (here) for $4.99 a month. It wasn't offered on the Tilt when it first came out, but it is now.
The deductible is $50 for now, goes up to $125 after Nov. 2.
The insurance works well, in my experience. I'd only had the phone a couple of weeks when the dog ate it. No hassles, they had me a brand-new phone the next day.
There is a limit of two insurance claims per year.
i have the same option for insurance near me (NYC). i didn't mean of course that the phone was outdated. i won't have an early upgrade possibility until at least january, and i totally expect there to be the Pro-killer by March or latest June of 2009. my tilt will definitely hold up well in comparison over the next year.
overall though, as its exclusivity and sitting atop the WM market for a year, it has had a good run by those standards.
now give me my f-in drivers!

Windows Phone 7 Marketing

Morning peeps,
just a mention, i'm quite amazed with the lack of marketing for the HD7.
Just walked into a o2 shop to confirm if the HD7 is still on for 21st Oct and the answer was YES. But there no HD7 pics or notice on the o2 shop front.... why?
2 days left and no advertising...
It was exactly the same last year with the release of the HD2 and I imagine it happens all the time with new phones.
Last year they released the HD2 without marketing online or in any of the UK shops, but by lunchtime they had sold out their stocks. It was the same story over at Vodaphone UK.
Remember, you're probably not the only person to have walked into the shop and asked for the HD7 and I can imagine demand will be high for the first few weeks. After that HTC will probably have more units made.

cool, but as i recall correctly, IPHONE 4 was marketed much better and well before its release. why not just copy it
I agree, Apple are good at that. MS doesn't have any real say over the OEMs and it is HTC supplying the devices to O2. HTC are also supplying several models on launch day, so I imagine they don't have all their factories making one model. AT the end pof the day we will never know.
Lets just hpe we don't have the hardware mess that was the iPhone antennae
So far here in the UK I haven't seen any advertising for Windows Phone 7. The only ads I've seen are ones I've found myself through reading about WP7 on sites like engadget and other tech news sites. If I was a member of Joe public, I'd have no clue it existed unless I'd actively been looking on Orange's website at phone upgrades.
Maybe I haven't been hanging around bus stops enough to see the advertising posters?
I agree I haven't seen anything either. I do recall knowing about the new iPhone 4 about a week before it was released, I think MS has missed the boat here.
The marketing of the features on this phone is truly a disappointment. My single favourite feature is the wireless sync. My brother always tells me hes jealous for that feature alone (he has an iphone 4). But most likely no one will hear about this and apple will introduce it in their next update and it will be the greatest thing that apple has done and all microsoft can do is sit there and say we had that first.
