utak3r can you help? WMP stuttering - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 Windows Mobile 6 Upgrading

I have upgraded to WM6 (C_ShekharAKU7.0b.R40.P24_public) from 2003, and I’m blown away. The main reason I use my XDA (Himalaya) is for watching movies as I travel a lot. My movies are converted to a WMV file.
The problem I have is that when playing the movie, the video stutters and the audio plays a few seconds’ ahead i.e. sync probs. Any ideas? I don’t want to go back to 2003.
Thanks

Hi there,
I can't help with the problem but I can confirm that I have the identical problem
*Upgraded from 2003SE
*Movies are converted to WMV
*Video stutters and audio is a few seconds ahead.
I've done a few tests to try determine what the issue might be but no luck.
*Tried testing testing at many different audio and video rates down to the lowest possible rates (60kbps and so on)
*Tried closing all other programs that were open using task manager
*Tried moving the file from my SD card onto the Himalaya (suspecting the SD was not able to be read fast enough). This WORKED for the first replay, but went back to its normal stuttering directly after.
I've been trying to recreate that ONE time when it worked, but with no luck.
I can confirm that between the working time and non-working time, I didn't install anything, and I doubt I changed any settings, though can't be sure.
Anyway, maybe you can try a few of the things that I did. In your case, it may work.

Use TCPMP to play all your movie file.
If there are problems, convert your file to any format rather than WMV. ex, MP4.
I use TCPMP to play a whole movie.
If your movie file is a DVD, convert it using Nero Recode...
Hope this helps!

As for playing movies... TCPMP and all is done You can download plugins for quite a number of various movie formats
And as for recoding... I recommend PocketPC DivX Encoder, aided with MediaCoder.

Guys
I also had this problem where the whole device's sound was stuttering. Even when the phone rings.
I could not use media player because of this.
I reflashed my ROM and did not install the WM6 sound fix............
Since then i did not have this problem again.
My sound is perfect!! Try it out!!
Cheers

installed TCPMP all fine. Best version ever.

GB Softweak
HI guys
I have located this problem.
I tried to install GB softweak...for the gprs disconnection. After i enabled it, my device's sound started stuttering.
It was exactly what it did when i first posted this problem.
I uninstalled GB softweak...................the sound is back to normal, and no stuttering.
Hope it helps!

I installed the player but is there a way to change it to the defaults player for IE so when I go to youtube it doesn't try to load RealPlayer. In the program I looked over all the settings but didn't see one. I also went through and check that it was suppose to handle all file types just to make sure. thanks for any advice
After setting file associations .flv in TCPMP did you soft reset?
Have you installed the flv plugins for TCPMP?
I haven bothered to install RealPlayer on my Kaiser, it is on my Wizard, and I haven't missed it yet. TCPMP works fine for me on Youtube. If you unistall RealPayer does the incorrect file association recover?
Launch TCPMP
Select options, settings, select page.
A pop up allows access to all the settings including File Associations.
(s)He's talking about m.youtube.com loading RP.
Sorry, misunderstood.
I did set all the files assoiciations up. I also did a soft reset. I did install the flv plugins. Because the tilt comes preinstalled with Realplayer it isn't even listed as a program that can be removed.
any more ideas? Thanks for your guys help.
Yesterday I installed TCPMP on my Tytn II. I wanted to see if there was any improvement over the reported jerky playback of .wmv files. Unfortunately it could not read the .wmvs I tried to play and reported that it did not have the right codes. I thought that TCPMP would have the codecs 'out of the box'.
In any case I've just installed and tried Pocket Player but the jerkiness was still there. I increased the cache in the options but to no effect. I would like to try Core Player but can't since they do not offer a trial/demo version from their site.
As I understand the jerkiness of video playback is due to an OS bug and might be resolved with a ROM upgrade from HTC. However has anyone found a temporary/permanent solution?
Well I uninstalled and reinstalled TCPMP and left the defaults setup and it seems to work now.
Do you just get the jerky ness on wmv files? I have't loaded any yet cause I am waiting for my 4gb card in the mail.
I get the jerkiness to some extent also with .mp4 and .3gp files. I'm no expert on audio/vide/codecs etc. I just want to watch videos on long trips.
I've also tried encoding just a single chapter from a DVD and placed this in main memory. Same jerkiness so it's nothing to do with transfer rates from the MicroSD card.

Guy go in the file Association area and check mark all the blocks, now your TCPMP/PLAYER will be the DEFAULT player, if this does not work PM me and I will send you the added software you might need!
I used TCPMP and now Core Player, they work very smoothly. I use RAW Framebuffer and encode my media conservatively 320 x 240, 96-128k stereo (it still sounds great even at 96kb) and a video bitrate around 475kb. I have to say it looks very sharp and clear on the 8525 and now my Kaiser

What type of files do you play using TCPMP and/or Core Player, and what app do you use to encode them?
Full length movies usually from my DVD's, or MPEG2 files from Replay DVR and PC Based SageTV, encoded with PDXE to Divx format.

TCPMP Settings

Can anyone recommend what settings i should have my TCPMP player on my Tilt for playing video. when i go to youtube, it lags quite i bit, so i just figured it was one of those things i have to deal with when using a pda and going to a site like youtube. but i put a video file on my storage card and played it and it lags quite a bit, probably even worst than playing something on youtube, i went to the recommend settings for tcpmp but that doesn't seem to work for a video i play directly off my storage card, any ideas on who to get less lag, i'm also using version .81RC1. Thanks
Hi!
I use "Raw FramePuffer" or "GDI" under OPTIONS - VIDEO.
Just not "DirectDraw" - It looked really bad with that...
I stream Divx/Xvid files over WLAN and from microSD and it's OK.
I've tried those options, but i still get the lag, it plays a little better in wmp, but still laggy, could it be something w/the video i put on my card, i didn't convert it to anything, mainly because i dont know how, i just put the card in my usb adapter and plugged it into my computer and copied the file to the card. Or could it be something i need to change under settings? because like i mentioned i do get the lag while playing youtube.
anyone else have any ideas on how to get tcpmp to play video's w/o much lag? i'm getting quite a bit on files i put on my storage card, it's basically unwatchable.

Had the same problem. Until I resized/re-encoded the videos with eRightSoft SUPER video converter (Free). The key is to using the "DIVX / AVI Pocket PC" as the output format.
If this doesnt work then I would try a different SD Card.
I put a 4000kb buffer in TCPMP to get normal "xvid" TV episodes working. It's a little choppy, but certainly usable. I didn't notice battery draining more than normal, and for not having to spend hours reencoding video, the occasional choppiness is okay.
Yes, the best way is to recode the video files. I don't use no fancy app for this, just windows movie maker has that option to scale it to pocket pc or any format you like. Works quit well.
Link to SUPER video converter
This a link to the free software I use SUPER. I also included a screenshot with the settings that work for me. Enjoy

I found these settings on another forum and apparently they help, but I still can not play and mp4 file I encoded for the iPhone. I haven't tried other encodings, but I have seen some poeple (in addition to the OPs comment below) say DivX is one of the better types for the Tilt.
Windows Mobile Core Player Settings
I experienced the same thing on mine. I'm using TCPMP and I've found that the following steps help relieve some of the problems.
1. Options/Video:
Change from DirectDraw to Raw FrameBuffer
Uncheck "Dither" (whatever that is)
2. Options/Video/Pixel Aspect Ratio: set to Auto
3. Options/Settings/Advanced
Check "Slow Video Memory"
4. Options/Settings/Buffering
Change "Preload at Underrun" to 85%
Note: I'm using PocketDIVxEncoder to convert everything to AVI files with the right audio/video size and format and I've tweaked the rom quite a bit. The most important setting change I've found to improve response of programs/video came from the vx6700 forums:
H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/GDI/GLYPHCACHE/limit
change setting to either 32758 or 65536
I've tried both, and I'm using 32758 because it's a smaller memory footprint, but 65536 appears slightly faster.
dither 'smooths' out the colour gradients - so you dont see the nasty blockiness you get from high compression so much - also helps make the 16bit depth look a bit better
What about streaming video from your computer and re-encoding it on the stream server? Windows Media Server, VLC, and probably other apps can do this. I think Orb does this. Can anyone offer a comparison between TCPMPing divxs over the network and Orb-ing the same file?
I have tried ORB at home and it seems to work OK, but in order to really use it, you need to have a good network connection. So you are adding in yet another variable (and one which is almost completely unpredictable) to affect playback. Supposedly, ORB or Sling or whatever stream method you are using will detect your bandwidth and push you the best rate for your connection, but no connection means no playback. As an example, I couldn't get MobiTV to work over edge at all, which is promoted by AT&T as the way to watch TV on your phone. Right...

Telstra Diamond - Coreplayer: Video playback

Hey guys,
Got my Telstra branded Diamond, installed Coreplayer and when playing any video, no matter what setting (in coreplayer; QTv, DirectDraw, etc), file format, resolution, bit rate, codec etc etc...
Well, the video plays smooth for about 1 second then stops, progress bar continues for a bit, smoothly too, then the video jumps ahead catches up, plays smoothly for about 1 second again then stops. Repeat, wash and rinse. Sound comes out fine the whole video.
My memory usage is only at about 75% when using the player. I also tried to install TCMCP - won't even install, seems my Diamond doesn't like the CAB.
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers.
Maybe you should flash your diamond with some tweaked rom. The default one suck ass.
About the playback, cant help with your problem but i run the lastest CorePlayer here and play any video smoothly even at higher res.
The only think missing is the AC3 support, im too lazy to convert the movies.
For the TCMCP, you need to install the recompiled cab for the Diamond. You can find it here at the forum. Just do a search.
I don't know coreplayer yet, but it is somewhat similar to TCPMP.
Try lowering the buffer size. it will be depending on the file your trying to play.
Some needs higher buffer size, some don't. Or maybe convert your file in mpg format.
Hi cud it be, that your files are all of WMV formate? I have exactly the same problem, but only with WMV files. What you can do instead, is using the built in Windows Media Player for it enables a smoother playback than the CorePlayer.
Somehow it seems the CorePlayer can not use the ATI Imageon on our Diamonds for now.
Maybe in later versions
Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies so far.
I've tried tweaking around with the settings however no such luck. At first I was only trying WMV files then I tried MPEG, AVI and mp4 - All yielded the same results. I'd love to try a cooked ROM but can't as I have a Telstra Diamond and it's different to the rest so I'll lose 850mhz NextG network if I go down that route which is the only reason I haven't so far.
Guess I will just have to wait for cooked Telstra Diamond compatible ROMs.
Cheers,
Byron.
telstra rom from htc website

Coreplayer YouTube not working?

YouTube works fine in Opera and the Streaming Manager app but in Coreplayer Mobile it just constantly brings up the loading symbol when selecting a video.
Anyone else have this or know a fix? I am on Jacks 1.3 Lite ROM with the YouTube registry fix installed.
That's strange. Youtube works for me in Coreplayer. I am also using Jack's Lite Rom 1.03. I did not try if it works in Opera though.
You got to activate networkaccess in corplayersettings for youtube

It is ticked already
I can't get Youtube to work in Streaming Media
Have you tried ticking flv box in the file extensions/
I got an email from CorePlayer makers saying there is a bug and they are fixing it in the next release
I have come across a problem with Coreplayer and its YouTube, so I have decided to use this thread instead of starting my own using the same title.
Coreplayer plays YouTube movies. No problem with that, even more it plays them in excelent quality (setting h264 medium quality, flv high bandwidth). But for some reason it cannot stop them. When the video is over the loading sign (rotating circle) appears and the screen freezes. After a couple of seconds I hear audio as if the video started to play all over again, but the screen is still frozen on that last frame. When I press any button the audio stops as well and that is that. There is no other solution than removing the battery, which annoys me greatly.
Does any of you have the same problem and have you been able to solve it? Coreplayer plays youtube with the highest quality by farand would really like to see it work properly.
Anybody else with this wierd Youtube problem?
Except that it freezes my phone like, every 5 minutes, it works fine i guess.
Too bad I have to reset my phone every time, because if i wouldnt had to, it would be a good piece of software.
Using Coreplayer 1.3 btw.
Well I am pretty disapointed as well. The video playback of original divx files is jerky and if I have to encode I might as well encode to a file media panel recognises. And now the youtube thing. There are still podcasts, I hope I will not come across a problem there.
huh?
i dont get it... my coreplayer plays youtube great, and divx great... i did have the youtube option dissapear mysteriously, but i re-enabled it in the network setting and its worked great ever since...
ive watched 2 movies in divx - one was a fast paced action movie and it played absolutely perfectly the whole time. maybe you need to have certain settings ticked, or maybe the fact that ive used the various tweaks in this forum to speed up my sd card, and to optimize my cache settings and such is helping...
more info may help resolve this...unfortunately i dont know much technical jargon.. i fiddle until things work.
I got my core working again with an update, but the standalone youtube player and panel is MUCH easier and better to use.
Hi, i work with an HTC Touch Pro 2 and on it with the newest CorePlayer. But i can not watch any Youtube Videos. I can search, and browse the different categories. But when i want to start a video the player gets back to the starting screen.
The "normal" video playback works fine.
Why? Anybody else with this problem?
PS: I have activated the network settings.
Youtube has made a change to how their protocol works. CoreCodec knows about the isue and they said they have alreay fixed it on an internal build. Sadly we will probably have to wait a very long time for the fix to be released.
here, some videos work, some others not, like the 70% of them, just try to open but stop downloading without image
Anybody else getting this problem again?Youtube videos stopped playing for me since tuesday,i'm running coreplayer 1.3.6 windows mobile.
Yes same her, my CorePlayer 1.3.6 stopped playing Youtube end of July.
Is there any update out there?
Yep, doesn't work...lame

[Q] Some .flv videos won't play

So yesterday I was playing around and tried to get some porn clips to play on the phone. I downloaded a video (using a greasemonkey script) and then I transfer the .flv to one of the cards.
It says something like: "filetype not admited" ("tipo de archivo no admitido")
Does it have to do with the flash version? I have stock jf3 root and lagfix app.
Youtube is ok, spankwire or xvideos, are not. You can see it's a REALLY SERIOUS problem
However, sgs media player is supposed to get along with .flv right?
Is there a way for this videos (or others .flv) to play on the phone apart from converting?
i had something similar happen to me
but of course mine was an almost 4GB file with surround sound all channels and HD but it was on 720 mkv, but it gave me the same message
now i loaded another similar mkv file but it was only stereo and that worked fine
seems like the phone can't support HD audio
I see. So it probably has to do with the audio then.
I can resemble this situation
Like all original, un-modded Droid owners, I was looking forward to Froyo and Flash player 10.1. Well, it finally got here. Sites now work, (e.g. Kongregate) and others. Works with Youtube and such. Does not work with .flv files, haven't tried .swf files yet, nothing seems to play from the device, AFAIK.
I would speculate that what we see when things do "play" on the device is the streaming variety of the media.
/s/ BezantSoft
One of these days I will get around to rooting my Droid and my Eris. Someday....
I have similar problem. I´ve downloaded Megavideo application and when I try to play the video from app with stock player (and I beleived that Galaxy S stock player must handle .flv without problems) so it starts to play, but only with black screen and no sound. In Rockplayer or others it works just fine. Any suggestions how to help it? Thanks a lot
I think the best option is to just use RockPlayer for this.
I've tried using video converters but it's not worth it because audio/video quality can suffer or even get messed up badly. RockPlayer is just more convenient and simple.
