{FIXED} Cingular / Cellular Video and Kaiser rom - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I've been digging around for an answer to this and can't seem to find it. I'm running the Kaiser rom on a Tilt. There appears to be something the Cingular Video site sees on the phone to identify it as a 3G phone and with the Kaiser rom it's not there. I can get the Media Net home page just fine with the proxy settings in one of my connection profiles, but this is what I get when going to the CV site...

UPDATE fixed: You can read the entire thread, but am going to consolidate what I did.
1. Reg edit
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent]
"CustomBase"="HTC_TyTN_II/ <----Changed to HTC-8900 or HTC-8500
This will ID the phone to the CV web site as a at&t phone
2. Download & Install
From this thread download the cab from the "Cingular Video Only" link. This installs the right version of RealPlayer that works with the CV videos.
3. Connection
Make sure you are using a connection profile that uses APN wap.cingular and DOES NOT have the proxy checked.
4. Proxy Manager
Download the Proxy Manager cabs and enable the hidden proxy. You can disable the proxy when you don't need it. I find surfing with PIE I can leave the proxy enabled for most of my browsing. (I'm assuming you know what these cabs do and how to use them)
Restore Proxy cab
Disable Proxy cab

Me, Too
I'm having the exact same issue. I can't find anything in the registry that appears to be related to it. A fix for this would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem as well. I tried a couple different ROMs and all had the same result, so I had to put the AT&T ROM back in and everything works. I would love a fix because I don't know how much longer I can stand the AT&T Rom after using the HTC ROM.

Could be a proxy issue. If you don't go through the actual Cingular Proxy, you won't be able to connect.
Are you using WAP.CINGULAR as your connection? You need to.
Make Sure you install the Cingular CABS and the Enable/Disable Proxy cabs. Enable the Proxy and you shouldn't get that error.

something to check/try...
I'm using a Tilt and a stock Tilt ROM (and CV works just fine). You might want to look at this, though, as it was causing a problem with my online banking:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent]
"CustomBase"="HTC-8900/1.2 Mozilla/4.0"
Make the following 1-digit change (a "9" to a "5"):
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent]
"CustomBase"="HTC-8500/1.2 Mozilla/4.0"
Of course, this may have absolutely nothing to do with it (you're on your own for testing)...

Yes, I am using APN wap.cingular. I have the proxy settings also in a Media Net connection profile. I can get to the Media Net home page just fine, which will be confirmation the settings are correct. I think it has to do with something on the phone the site has to see to identify it. I will look into the user agent and tinker with that.

My settings are not quite the same, but your post helped anyway. I have "HTC_TyTN_II". I changed that to "HTC-8500" and I now get>>>
Now the problem I get is, when I click on a video it doesn't play, it gives me a pop up to download a file. I remember it doing this sometimes with the 8525 and it appeared there was something wrong with the site. Maybe some of you using the at&t rom can let me know if you can play videos right now.

It is... I think it has to to with the fact the file it is trying to play is not associated with Media Player. Care to share anymore reg settings? Or maybe dump your settings and make a copy for us to download. I could comb through them and maybe I can find were it makes that association.

I recall in another thread, to download Realplayer, and setting it to use the Media Net conenction. Use the Search XDA through Google link at the top of the page to get a better search result here for it.

OK, I installed RealPlayer, and that didn't work. I already had the cab handy because I had to do this for the 8525 before WM6 came out. But it seems like there was more that had to be done than just install RP. I will go digging in the Hermes forum to see if I can find that thread.

That registry is exactly what we all needed! I wonder if anybody can combine this registry fix with the CV cab that's available from vp3g in the Hermes forum for an easy install.

FIXED!
Ok, I got CV working. I used the Realplayer installer cab found in this thread>>
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305897&highlight=at&t+RealPlayer
Now this will not be enough. Using a connection profile with the proxy settings I was getting this:
This is the same problem I had with the 8525. What you have to do is use APN wap.cingular WITHOUT the proxy settings enabled. Then you will have to have the "auto detect proxy" settings in the registry. Which these are accomplished with the Proxy Manager cabs. I manually wrote those settings in. I couldn't find where someone has the Proxy Manager cabs for download. (Hint Hint for someone to find them ).

Well,
I spoke too soon. Reflashed the- New ATT rom aku 0.4.4 build 18128 radio 1.27.14.09 from the thread of the same name, which has a better radio, but, that regedit didn't work for me.
Still getting the CV 3G error-back to the original ROM

Which ROM is the best for XDA 2i???

Hi all,
I wonder which ROM is best for my XDA 2i?I use the Modified ROM V.1.11.00 WWE- Radio 1.03.00-ExtROM 1.11.162.However,the signal is not stable;I can't connect to GPRS as well(Im using O2 UK PAYG).
Re: ROM Upgrade
Hi, I've been looking into which is the best ROM, I was thinking of swapping to the I-mate PDA2 ROM. But the general feeling is the modified 02 with Radio 1.03. This is what I have put on mine and I'm on PayT vodafone UK, my GPRS worked fine after I installed the attached file.
Unless your loaded a word of warning Vodafone charge £7.50 for a 1Mb download of data on PayT!!!!!!!! I found this out after I had subscribed to TomTom Traffic on TTN 5.1, waste of my money now, GPRS too expensive, looking at other PayT deals ie. T-Mobile +£2.60 per Mb, although still too expensive. :x
Copy to XDA IIi. Access the copied file on your XDA IIi , click on it to run and it will install all the UK settings for Vodafone. Please keep a copy, as the install deletes itsself automatically.
Re: 02 PAYT Settings!
Sorry was half asleep when I wrote my original replay, which refers to vodafone not 02, please find the correct file for 02 PAYT attached.
are these the settings for the free GPRS on PAYT on O2 ?
or have they realised their error yet ?
hello,
i've been looking everywhere for the 02 paymonthly gprs settings, i tried the pay as you go settings, but it didnt seem to work.
i was on the phone to 02 for hours last time until we got it to sort of half work, but i had to hard reset when i updated my rom. i installed with corporate user, and now i dont have gprs settings again. anyone know how to do it?
much much appreciated!

How do you work with CAB files? Just double-click like an executable? What does this update to the GPRS do?? Will it affect my WiFI settings?

Again, do I simply double-click the CAB file to install the "registry" (if that is what happens)? And specifically, what will this O2_UK_PAYG file do to my settings? If I add something like the TMobile caller ID patch (another CAB file), how will that affect the general O2 settings of my XDA unit (I am a TMobile customer running under the O2 ROM)?

To run a CAB file just find it with File Explorer and click it. It will automatically be deleted afterwards
Your new settings should either overwrite the old ones or add an addition set of network settings that you then select as the defaults.

As for the pictures etc, I would sooner do it properly once and refer people who ask in the future to there, than end up doing it over and over....
RE: 02 PAYT Cab file or Vodafone PAYt
To run the cab files, copy to your PDA and double click to run. These cabs just update the registry, it doesn't matter. As long as your PDA is SIM-Free, any carrier should work.
They are the official files from the IMATE website, which has cabs for most carriers including worldwide. You can only download these files from IMATE website if you have a registered device. They should work on all XDA or other brand names etc.
RE: Other Operater cabs
I have uploaded the rest of the available cabs for the UK carriers, contact and PAYT. So in combination with my earlier uploads, these are all the UK carrier settings for the UK
There are cabs for other countries and carriers available, let me know your carrier, contract (PAYT or Contract) And I will try to locate the correct cab file.
These are the offical cabs from IMATE. They only update your registry and nothing else. Copy to your PDA and click to run.
just one other thing, once the gprs connects, its stays on? how do u disconnect it - save battery? it used to end connection once mms was d/l or u/l and there was an option to disconnect when pressing on G icon?
small detail cos i can always soft reset or activate wireless, but would be handy, thanks again!

If you are a T-mobile cstomer, then I suggest you use the T-Mobile file I have uploaded, it is for T-Mobile contract users. It doesn't matter what ROM you have, it only sets up the gprs and wap settings, by writing to the registry on PDA.

Cab install Splash Screen Bonus!
Hi, all
I have had a look at the carrier cab installs, I uploaded and found out that you can change your splash screen with these cabs as well.
XDA IIi installation
Go to this link for instructions on how to create the 2 files you will need.
http://pocketpcdubai.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/582600994/m/138105069
They have the Windows program for conversion and some example jpg's or create your own Splash screen. This program runs on your PC.
In the program save your chosen jpg as twice as system1.nb and then repeat with same jpg and save as system2.nb.
Copy these files to your PDA Windows directory. Then copy the correct carrier cab file (listed earlier), click to run, it will then install/re-install your GPRS and WAP settings and update your splash screen, it will probably freeze, then do a soft reset and voila you will see your new splash screen. To change just repeat the process and overwrite your 2 files in windows directory with your new ones and use the cab again.
**Please note the GPRS cab files will only update your splash screen if you have copied the correct files to the windows directory on your pda.
If you do not want to change your splash screen, then simply run the cab file without copying/creating system1 or system2, and this will just install your chosen carrier internet settings etc**
One more thing I mentioned in an eariler post that the cabs update your GPRS and WAP, well they also install your MMS settings as well.
Enjoy
Splash install update
Sorry made a mistake on the save files not system1.nb/system2.nb.
The correct file names are splash1.nb and splash2.nb.

WM6 Pocket IE - Issues - wsp:// vs. http://

Hi everybody,
I had a problem with my WM6 when I tried to surf via GPRS. The connection went fine but the requested pages would not load. After a lot of posting and research I found out that the pocket IE included in the WM6 rom only opens
url's when they start like this:
wsp://www.google.com
This is a real pain in the a** because when you click a search result in google it'll link ya to an http://... site and the problem starts again!
I live in germany and I use the O2 WAP Flatrate and up until the WM6 rom I had no issue.
Does anybody have a fix for this maybe a registry tweak that tells the pocket IE to behave as in the previous rom's?
I know a few of you out there got the same problem and I hope this thread will help us enjoy this great rom because everything else is just perfect for my needs!
Thank you and I am looking forward to your suggestions!

I can assure you that PIE in WM6 opens http:// addresses too. I haven't tried connecting through GPRS, though. Only WiFi.
Maybe it's a DNS problem?
Hi Risidoro,
which WM6 are you using? I use the PDAVIET3 and I had the same issue with
the PDAVIET1.
DNS sounds good but it worked on the previous roms and I use the same settings as before. Maybe there is some registry entry in the PDAVIET causing
this phenomena!?
Thanks for helping!
im using the Original WM6 rom and im not having 1 problem.. maybe is PDAVIET3 rom.. i have been using PIE on Wifi and GPRS and it always connects
I'm using the BigBrother's rom AKA clean wm6 and i've no problem so far. IE works as always...that is: BAD (but at least it opens http)!
The best browser for WM, the real usable one, is Picsel Browser.
It can't be bought online (picsel only sells it to device manufacturers) but... WM6 couldn't be bought too... if you know what i mean
I do use pdaviet3 and have no problem opening http pages with GPRS in IE.

I think you have bad gprs connection settings, as you wrote you can only open through wsp:// it means you are connecting to WAP service where only connection to internet is through APN (Access Point Name) so you have to use wsp (wireless session protocol). I'm assuming you set up your connections using some cab file, don't you? Go to Settings/Connections/Connections/Manage existing connections and check how many connections you have there if it's only one than it's for shure connection through WAP APN and you have to change it to normal internet connection if there are more than one connections check the proper settings for internet instead 'auto pick' if any of this does't work make your own settings as I can see for German O2 you have to only put APN name 'internet' and nothing else no passwd or login. Hope this info helps you

tried your help but to no avail. The PDAVIET 3 really has different settings but changing them and rebooting did not really fix the problem.
The keys you are mentioning are only under HKLM did you also change yours there or do you have them under HKCU as well?
Thanks a lot anyway for your help!

Hi shamus,
thank you for your reply! No I do not use a cab I perform the settings manually. There is more to it than entering a APN, here is all I do and how
it is documented in the depths of the german O2 website
modem: CELLULAR LINE GPRS
APN: wap.viaginterkom.de
USER/PASSWORD/DOMAIN: empty
PROXY: 195.182.114.52
HTTP: 195.182.114.52:8080
WAP: 195.182.114.52:9201
SECURE WAP: 195.182.114.52:9203
SOCKS: empty
Only by entering these informations I am surfing on the O2 wap flatrate and
by entering the proxy like this I can surf to http sites as well!!!
And exactly this feature seems to have been taken from me
Well not really as I can enter wsp://... I am still able to surf but using
google and hitting search results gets really anoying cause for every search result I will have to change the url from http to wsp !!!!
So if somebody out there might really have the antidote for my prob I'd
be most happy and if not I´ll consider switching back to Farias rom as this
WM6 stuff is only for evaluation
Thanks for helping!
Hmmm seems it's good lead. When your connection is through proxy server in this case 195.182.114.52 then you have to have all connection setup in "my work network" disable "My ISP" in connections/advanced/select networks by choosing only "My work network" in both fields then setup Proxy server and setup only HTTP proxy remember 8080 port, left all other protocols empty (wap, socks, secure wap). Try if it works, if not than try to setup WAP proxy to 8080 port also. Since browser connects all the time to wap apn in this way you can trick it. Other unusual possibility is your provider stoped to serve http proxy or changed some settings.

Hi shamus,
tried all of your ideas but still it did not resolve this issue! I always choose "My work network" because the ISP does not let me set up the proxy.
My provider still features this service because if I use any of the normal WM5 roms everything works perfectly!
Thanks for helping!

tried all of your ideas but still it did not resolve this issue! I always choose "My work network" because the ISP does not let me set up the proxy.
My provider still features this service because if I use any of the normal WM5 roms everything works perfectly!
Thanks for helping!
PS: this is really starting to pi** me off

Hey FREIMAURER....we met in another thread......
I had a similar problem...you may have to flash your factory rom just to get your provider network settings. Flash back to your current rom and then use that cab file to set your device up so that your carrier's settings show up in Connections. At this point you can modify the wap address and your proxy settings. This will get you on the internet.
MMS is another beast!
PDAviet3 does not include MMS....you have to install ArcSoft MMS for it to show up on your device. I recommend you install ArcSoft MMS before you install your carrier's settings cab because your carrier settings include MMS configurations but once they are installed...you can not change them. If your MMS works, you're good. If it doesn't, un-install ArcSoft MMS, re-install ArcSoft MMS and manually input your settings.
Sounds like alot of hard work but it's not that bad.
PM me if you need help

If there are any questions (please don’t ask questions which are able to be found on the forums, I will not answer if that happens), leave a comment and I will try to respond with an answer ASAP. Well, I forgot to mention that if you want even MORE FREE space for programs or storage, do some reg editing and it could help alot.
For example, you could turn of the dialer if you don't really want it, that'll free your programs. There are many other things you could to make your PDA bigger! Just a little note if you wanted to try it out.
------
There is one more thing I would like to add. Feel free to give out your thoughts and opinions like what you might like on the rom or what you would like removed. If there's a majority for something to be added/delete, I will do it or at least try to. The only thing that I ask in return is NO SPAMMING and NO COMPLAINING!
Have fun!
If your Activesync-Mobile Internet Connection is not working, this is NOT the cause from my phone.
The problem is located in your Desktop/Laptop PC with the .reg files.
Here's the SOLUTION!
Another one just incase lol =]
just tried out this rom and for some reason I can't use WLM through the web browser, I keep getting an error.
well, if you read the Removed features, I have removed windows live. sorry about that.
anyways, could you tell me what the error specifically said so that i may get a clue to help you further?
i'm sure it will work once again without error if you decide to install the cab file for wlm.
try it out

Hello, Tried your rom. Super Fast. Great Job !!!!
I had to flash back to the almost Perfect Open Touch 3.0 lite because of Internet Sharing.
Yours has it. but without the Network Wizard to set to T-Mobile USA I can't access the net. My Wing is my only ISP. I have the same problem with Touch-It roms.
super fast, great rom though.

Thank you very much! Appreciate the comment!
You know it's a good thing that you've mentioned the "Network Wizard" because I was debating about putting it in. If more people ask for the "Network Wizard" then I'll see that I do it ASAP.
Once again, thanks!

hey zcink, what exactly does network wizard do? i have never used it and i have not seen any ill effects. i set up my proxy manually which takes about 1 minute as soon as i am done flashing a new rom. that always gets me online and allows my internet sharing to work also. do you do the proxy hack 5.99 or data plan 19.99? cause as far as i know they are the same speed. i just wonder will duprades internet sharing cab work on this rom?

network wizard sets up T-Mobile Data. I guess yes you can do manually but I don't know the settings.
I've tried duprades internet sharing cab but cannot get it to work.
The Network Wizard sets up the network settings for your device, whether it's tmobile, att, or if you're in Russian or China, etc.

hey, i guess if you want to do it manually, see if this works.
go to settings>connections>connections
click "add a new modem connection"
name it "T-Mobile Data"
select "celluar line (gprs)
access point name: wap.voicestream.com
leave user name and everything else blank (unless you have a data plan then you can put it in) and click "finish"
see if that will enable you to use t-mobile data, if not, then i guess i should add "networking wizard" later.
good luck.
**edit**
no luck needed. i just tried it and it works for me. give it a shot! =]

yeah i tried it with ivanmmj's clean rom also with no luck, but just found this one that he said is fixed. if you flash to anything new and try it let me know if it works plz. oh and the settings are SETTINGS/CONNECTIONS/CONNECTIONS/SET UP MY PROXY/216.155.165.50:8080....5.99mo.
for some reason, the ok button would just not exit the programs.
network wizard
very nice and fast-
would rule if you added network wizard =)
my flashing would stop here
huh?
oh and whats with the 2nd splash screen? i dont get it... lol
@ hybridmonk:
Haha, the second splash screen was made for pure fun. I wanted to see if it actually worked if I changed it. Luckily, it did, but then I got a little lazy and just left it. You're the third person who insisted that I should put network wizard. I think I might do it, but while I do that, I might try to make a NEW rom with it. Be on the look out for it. I might do it soon.
@bowlopho:
Well, for me, everything worked perfectly. What do you mean the "ok" button won't exit programs? Do you mean that when you close a program, but then you check the list, it's still there? That's typical, just go through the settings in task manager.
I thank both of you for giving your thoughts and opinions!

PIE probleme

I reset my Tilt according to this link to get rid of AT$T bloatware according to this http://www.pocketables.net/2008/01/10-tips-on-fixi.html
The phone reacted much faster afterwords but PIE is having problems: links aren't high lighted, pictures aren't shown and when I try to download programs I get the "no permissions" error
Anyone have a suggestion on how to fix this? Don't suggest Opera 9.5, as I tried to install this from a download on this forum and the installation froze after 20K
never ran into this .. don't know why ur installation of opera got stuck.. i have a copy of the opera mobile build by gsleon3 in my 4shared acct: link in sig. try that one and u should get a install. also take a look at opera mini. i prefer it over pie and opera 9.5.
Awsome you said to do what he asked you not to.
Did you verify your connection settings for media net or whatever it is that you use?

thanks for the productive reply. my reason for suggesting was simply because he might have downloaded a bad cab or something of that sort. the build i recommended is a port from vga over to kaiser by gsleon3 and so far people who have used it are running it w/o problem.
and i don't think his isp settings are bad as he is only having this problem in pie; not in all data apps, or atleast he didn't mention he does.

ACTUALLLY dear friend, he does mention a problem with data, he can't download opera. Also, how is you trying to help with opera helpful to this post. At least I'm starting at ground one by having him check the settings. I would say make sure it's plugged in first but of course this is a wireless device.
oldfossil did you installed the advanced config stuff which allows you to save temp internet files to the SD card? If so make sure it's saving to the phone.
Jimmy
I'm sure after your father digs mine up, he will be too tired to fight back. The vault and coffen are quite heavy.

Ouch, I got stuck in a flame war!
Thanks for the replies.
I am pretty much clueless about newer systems (ergo the "oldfossil"). My brain is stuck in the days of pre GUI's when I did my programming and system building so it takes me a little time to figure stuff out in newer systems.
thesire: I couldn't find Opera in your 4share. I want to use Opera mobile or PIE over opera mini because mini doesn't allow secure connections.
So, my MediaNet is set to connect to the network using MediaNet. Is this correct? Should it be AT&T ISP? I can connect to the internet, I just don't get full content.

don't worry about your medianet settings they are fine.
Here is the cab for opera (its under the cabs folder)
http://www.4shared.com/file/5001468...126__Uninstallable__WM5_Compatible__QVGA.html
i would suggest downloading it on your pc and copy to your storage card (if you have one) and run them cab from there.
yes let's just forget your problem. It's ok.

obviously problem w/browser not data connection. instaed of trying to argue read what the op is posting and help him.
OK you two. Sir Chums, The Sire, lets act like the adults we are. The benefit of a forum setting like this is people will come up with different answers.
Maybe Chumley is thinking of something in the Data Settings that the OP forgot. Maybe Proxy. Who knows the Proxy Causes weird issues.
And for TheSire, yes he asked about PIE but if he gets Opera working he won't have to worry about the PIE issue.
Thanks for more feedback.
I actually got Opera 9.5 working and have installed mini also. IE still doesn't give full content (some links are active, others are not; pics not shown).
An issue with Opera 9.5: When I try to log into my gmail account I get a blank white screen. Any settings/fixes I should be aware of?

I don't have that problem. The only solution I can give is to "Go around it"
Which is Download the Gmail.jar and install that in your Midlet Manager, which I believe you have since you installed Opera Mini.

Be sure to update your opera!

I know some of you already know this... but this seemed to fix a lot of issues I was having with opera. The zoom works smoothly on almost any page and the layouts do not seem to view as mobile versions...
Before you ask put cab on run it.. it will ask to unistall the old opera then say it can not. CONTINUE ANYWAYS, and all will be good!

How were you able to remove the ATT tab?
The problem with Opera and MEdia Net is that you need to go to about:config and the Opera config page will open. Next go to proxy and you will see it is now blank. You need to enter the proxy information but I do not remeber what it is but I know there was a post here that spoke about it. I too am searching for the post and if I find it I will edit this message.

if you do opera:config there are some proxy items in http and https that point to www.cingular.com (or something like that). I deleted them already so I can't tell you exactly what they are but that is the answer.
Maybe someone else can look and post it.
In "\Application Data\Manilla\" there's a file called "InternetPortal-en-US.xml"
In an application like TotalCommander, edit the properties to make it NOT Read-only, NOT System File, and then transfer it to your PC. Edit the file in notepad, replacing "http://device.home/" with whatever url you'd like and then "Media NET" with whatever text you'd like it to say. Transfer it back, and put the attributes back to what they were. See my picture below of what I've changed it to.
On that note, you should remove the cingular proxy as described before, and also under Adaptive Zoom, make sure to set the Maximum zoom to 200, minimum overview zoom to 30 minimum zoom to 100 or 80 ish. (it looks much better on a VGA (not WVGA) device).

yea, none of my att internet apps work after installing this. and when i try to use CV, it says a 3g phone is needed to use this (?)
is there anyway to uninstall this build?
I tried that. When I deselect Read only and System in TotalCommander and then press okay, the changes are not saved. If I go right back to Properties to they are still selected!

Tried that, disabled it, reenabled it, soft reset, nothing
After hours and search and two customer reps in AT&T...the default values in the about:config in Opera should be:
HTTP Server: wireless.cingular.com:80
HTTPS Server: wireless.cingular.com:80
Use HTTP on
Use HTTPS on
I tried it and MEdia Net now works fine.
ok now i can go back to the att sites, thanks. but cv still says "cv is only avaliable on supported 3g phones."
anyone?
My zoom now no longer behaves like it did pre-install. When double-tapping, it zooms to a much smaller size (zooms less).
How do I get it back to the defaults? I liked them.
Also, you cannot uninstall this...

are you using a Fuze? I have the same issue on a Fuze. Before, double-tapping would zoom it quite nicely, now it doesn't and there's a zoom slider.
More importantly, now all sites are redirecting me to mobile versions of the page. What gives? I may have to hard reset my device to get to the original Opera version supplied...
