As the title says i am big fan and lover of vista...but some old hardware devices prevent me from using vista and i have to bear with xp...So lets come to the problem...I want both the operating systems on 1 machine(Dell INspiron 9100)so i installed vista on my primary partition (c:/) and then did xp on the scondary(d:/) but after installing xp my vista....I dont know where my vista has gone ...the laptop boots into xp without even asking me but vista files are present in c: drive.....so can anybody guide me in this matter....

When dual booting like that, you have to install the OS's in an oldest to newest order.

I've never used Vista Boot Pro, so I can't answer that question. Really, all you have to do is install XP on the first partition and then install Vista on the second partition. When the computer boots up, it will give you a choice of which OS to boot into.

That's not actually true, you can install newest then oldest (ie: Vista then XP)
Follow this guide it works perfectly, I did it.
I guess I've been doing it the old skool way then.

the easiest method is that if u have a vista CD boot from vista cd and then choose the repair method and a new screen will appear and then from there choose repair startup problems and then it will repair it and in boot section after restarting the computer it will show windows vista and windows xp !!! this is the easiest way to do it !!!
or you can just use vmware on vista like i did.

All i cant do is upgrading Wizard in vista by any PROVEN METHOD.
And there are many like me.
So, i am using VMware workstation to upgrade my wizard and hermes mobile. I have done it many times without any problem.
VMware is a software to create virtual machines in it like Windows XP....
All you need is VMware and winXP cd.

I had many difficulties to install windows 7 to my shift, maybe because of my USB stick. And then every guide was a little bit complicated - too many instructions, too many steps, too easy to make a mistake and then go back to the beginning..
Didn't want to buy an external dvd-drive either..

There already are some from microsoft availabale via the link in the personalize menu. Have you already downloaded those ?
Unfortunately those are aero themes, I'd like some NON-aero, to fit with both resolutions.
ok, now the short way to make a bootable USB Disk to install Vista/7
cmd
diskpart
list disk
select disk $ [where $ is the number of the USB Disk listed in the list disk command]
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format fs=ntfs quick label="InstallUSB"
assign
exit
exit
Copy the content of your Installation Disk on USB and boot from it, just simple as that
do this method install the new windwos over the existing windows, or on a new partition in HDD.
As far as I know, no version of windows allows installing of a new windows except from booting.

I just tried it out and it installs it over the existing running windows, doesn´t matter if it was downgraded to xp, or already upgraded to 7, it will install a new and fresh copy of Win 7 in your local drive, regardless of the existing vista recovery partion, which can be used in any time... (I hope to get ride of it once Win 7 final version comes out...)
When the installation is complete, a folder called "old windows" saves all the files from the preivous running operating system, bt since it´s over 10 GB, I suggest you erase it..
Win 7 is fantastic!! I have my shift now running both Internet Explorer 8 and Opera, Office Pro 2007, Skype, Live Messenger, Eset Smart Security 4, Adobe Reader, and more.... as smooth as butter

I upgraded my hard drive then changed to windows 7 with a clean install. It is amazing how much better my shift runs now that it is on W7. It is really worth it to upgrade.

i upgraded to windows 7 ultimate and changed the drivers compitibility mode to windows vista service pack 1 and they all run smoothly but except the wifi and bluetooth, also the shag control doesn't run

My PC has never been able to connect via adb, and after weeks of searching around, reinstalling drivers 99 times etc, I finally gave up. That was months ago.
Today I found my Nexus One wasn't able to connect either (yes, new drivers), I knew it was something with Windows. I am using Windows XP 64 bit and I found this:

Unfortunately, the "fixed" file is extremely old, so it won't work for my G1, nor especially for the Nexus One.

No. I used to use Windows XP 64-bit. You need to upgrade to a new operating system, trust me.
Edit: The one guy who says the drivers work on xp-64 is incorrect or simply lying. I wasted a lot of time thanks to that jackass post.
I'm on win 7 64-bit and it connected without a hiccup.

k0z you are incorrect. I just looked at my usb_driver folder included with the android sdk, it shows the files: androidwinusba64.cat, and a folder named amd64 for 64 bit installations, along with an i386 folder and androidwinusb86.cat for 32 bit installations.

Just because there is a folder and some files for it, doesn't mean it works.
That's why I'm asking if there's anyone who has *actually used* adb on Windows XP 64 bit.

actually, thats exactly what it means. the androidwinusb64.cat is the catalog for windows 64 bit.
EDIT: Just follow this guide, but use the latest adb drivers not the one provided in the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010

While I'm sure a number of attempts have been made, and it's even possible that there are successful drivers out there now, I find this highly unlikely and I know that I personally wasted too much time trying to get this to work on my XP-64 machine.
There's really no support any more for Windows XP-64, in regards to Android or anything else as far as I can tell. Vista sucked, but it's time for you to make the jump to 7 I think

I found these files as well, none of them ever worked. Does this one work? Have you used it? Furthermore, it doesn't look like any of these indicate that they are for Windows XP at all.
well I am not sure that it works on XP 64, but It has been confirmed working on 64 bit Vista and 7.

Trust me, I've researched this for weeks on end. I know how to install adb.
And now that I see others with the same problem, I know it's just not possible.

Yes, I know. But not Windows XP 64. ([Edit]: Just updated the title for clarity.) Until there is someone who has gotten it working on XP 64, I am 100% sure it's not possible.
Tell you what. Make a video of you clearly showing that you're running Windows XP 64 bit and adb working, throw it on YouTube, and I'll donate $10 to you. Sound good?

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. Just because a newer version is out, doesn't mean everyone on the planet will magically stop using XP.
If Microsoft had their way, we'd have arbitrary full OS updates every year. Obsolescence express!
I just spent the past 4 hours backing up 35 GB of data to DVDRs, reformatting my hard drive, installing Windows XP 32 bit, and reinstalling all hardware drivers etc.
I now just plugged in my G1, installed the usb drivers and BOOM, adb works perfectly.
I'm now 1000% sure that the Android usb drivers cannot be used in Windows XP 64 Bit. Hopefully this helps others out there.

I confirm also here that USB drivers shipped with android SDK does not work on Windows XP 64 bit. The phone is correctly recognized by OS but ADB does not list any device.
Is there any news about this issue?
Does anyone here know if it's possilbe to do a full clean install of the free Windows XP Mode that you can get with the Windows 7 Virtual machine?
I do know it's possilbe to convert a .vhd into a .iso file which can be burned to disk but i can't find anything on google that would help me with this.
Any help would be appreciated.
If I understand correctly you want to V2P (virtual 2 physical).
I wonder if since Windows 7 bootloader allows you to boot vhd file's if you can boot the Windows xp mode vhd.
Also I think clonezilla will allow you to dd the vhd to a physical disk.

i have no idea hwat you're trying to do, but based on experiance drop xp mode, use vpc2007, virtualbox or vmware. vmware can physically access drives, which is..extremely handy.
Yup, that's exactly what i want to do, is to make the .vhd to physical so i can full install it at boot then dual boot windows 7 and windows XP without the need of useing Virtual PC all the time when i want to use XP.
It should be possible in everyway and i also have a genuine key for Windows XP Mode that come with the download from microsoft.
it isnt going to work. repartition your drive and use a real xp.
xp doesnt like being swapped between hardware configs. specially with whatever insane method win7 uses to boot to vhd files.
so i no its naughty but if you have a legit key then just download xp, with a built in key, then use jellybean to activate your legit key, prob get flamed for that info but fine if u are telling the truth
On Mac OS X 10.6 what is the latest version of Boot Camp ?
the MAC part of it not Windows ? i know Windows side of boot camp is 3.1 but i can not find update for mac side of it.... in 3.0 or whatever its currently running it says Win XP or Vista, and from 3.1 it adds Win 7 support...
I Asume i can just instal Win 7 as i would Vista, but it b nice to have boot camp actually knowing what its installling lol

Ohh On your mac click on the apple sign at the top right then click on software update i think bootcamp should update through there if ther is a newer version

Hhmm... I suppose it is the latest then, not sure why apple haven't added w7 yet but install using the vista option is probaly your best bet also I totally agree about the new itunes
It's just a partition manager
The mac part of bootcamp is just a partition manager that adds a fat32 partition, so it really doesn't even matter. But to answer your question there have been no updates to bootcamp for the mac half of it, so if you have snow leopard, you're good.
