Personally prefer the case in the pic i have provided, simple and suits me definitely.
I debated with myself for a while before going with the tab closure. I like the simplicity of having no closure at all, and that it would fold flat when the unit is out of the case. My prior cell phone case didn't have a flap and I never had a problem with it (didn't fall out). In the end I thought about the times when I'll use the main unit and leave the keyboard in the case, like when I'm using the camera. Figured to be safe I better get the tab.
Delivery is scheduled for next week, so I'll get some pics up when I get it.
Received today. 300% better than the piece of crap cases from that guy on ebay (like many others on here, mine broke in 2 days of light use and I dont have a refund yet). This case came to me in the US from New Zealand in 11 days, they claim 10 days minimum.
This case is built like a tank. I would trust it to hold my weight, if it had to. The clip is stainless steel, with a thin strip of leather glued to the outside for decoration. That may need better glue, but its a minor problem. The clip itself is securely embedded into the case and has a lip just below the clip (under the leather) to prevent the clip from slipping off a belt. The rest of the case is thick leather with a felt(?) lining.
Even without the closure it should hold the unit tight to the 90-degree position. I got the tab closure and it lets me hit the volume slider to mute the phone when its ringing plus would let me keep wired headphones plugged in while the tab is closed, although I only use BT headphones. I think the full closure option would be too much unless you walk in the rain or run with it. When empty it folds almost flat against my body even with the tab closure closed. That closes with velcro.
I get my first full day with it on my belt tomorrow, but so far it gets an A. Once I get the pics up on a server Ill post them.

Sorry, no pics with the whole phone in there - its the chicken-and-the-egg dilema. My wife had our real camera last night, so I was using the one on the phone.
Oh, and before someone asks, yes that's a D-ring at the top of the clip. You can use it with a clip-on shoulder strap (the one they offer is too expensive) or slip the strap of a larger bag through it.
This case would seem to be 'THE SOLUTION' for all of us. I have the tried the cheap case with the post and belt clip. The clip that came with it was broken from the get-go and I found a good substitute. BUT, I have seen a number of posts saying the post has broken so I will junk this case. I had another case that had belt loops which would hold the x7501 but the leather just tore and it is in the waste basket also.
Piel Frama has made a case but it is even more expensive than this one, has no belt attachment and is very similar to the one that comes with the Advantage.
So, I have a question! I assume that the X7501 and the HTC case would not fit in the pouch of the Tough-as-nuts case? If not, do you think it would be adventageous if the case were made bigger to accomodate it? I am not comfortable holding this device without a case around it (old hands).

The cheap ebay case I bought had both problems you mention - first the clip broke after 2 days, then the post came unglued inside the round piece of leather. I'm glad I noticed the glue problem - five minutes of walking around and the whole thing would have dropped to the floor. I pulled the post out of the round piece without much effort once the glue came undone.
Personally I do not like the method the original case, the cheap ebay case, and so many others use to hold the 2 parts of the Athena/Advantage in place. Those chunky plastic clips are just wear points as the 2 parts of the Athena get mashed together while you walk around. They should have built mounting slots/holes into the Athena's metal case to make car mounts and protective cases easier and safer. I also don't like the metal slab used to mount the keyboard because of its weight. Between the large plastic slab in the top of the case, the plastic clips, and the large metal slab in the bottom of the case, the original case (and many of the after-market solutions) is very heavy. The Tough-as-Nuts case is noticeably lighter in the hand even with its solid metal clip and D-ring. There's just so much metal and plastic in the original case.
I do like how much more protected the device is inside the original case while in use, and it keeps it from tipping over when you press on the screen. So I tried putting the whole thing into my new case, but there's not quite enough room. I think the thickness was OK, and the length would be fine (my closure strap is very long) but the width didn't have enough give to allow the Athena+case. I probably wouldn't have done that all the time but the option would have been nice if I knew I would be using it where it might get dropped or bumped.
My reaction now after several days on my hip: The new case feels much more secure than the cheapo ebay one. I always knew the Athena was there, usually pulling heavily on my belt in that other case. It also stuck out a good half-inch from my body so it had some leverage with that weight, too. The new case is snug against me, with just enough room on the clip that when I sit down it will tilt slightly and not get in the way. I truly forget its there now, sitting or walking around. I found it was not comfortable clipped all the way over the edge of my jeans, since the bottom edge of the clip sticks out a bit. My guess is that's to force the clip to stay closed as it lays against you. Unfortunately it digs into you when the clip is inside the pants, but very comfortable when kept on the belt. This case does not give you a window for the "subdisplay". However, the subdisplay is implemented very poorly on the Athena. The slightest bit out-of-alignment and the subdisplay turns off, as reported by several people on this forum and now me. So even with a window on the case its still mostly useless (which I found the few days I used that ebay case which does have a window). If you are looking for a case with a window, forget it. Since I use the Jabra BT8010 which has a display that deficiency is mostly a non-issue for me.
edit: And that red tag is probably going to get cut off some time soon, to me its annoying having this little red flag down there sticking out and saying "look at me".
Thanks for the additional feedback. I think I'll write Nutshell and see if they would consider making just a bit larger by say, 1/4" all dimensions. Do you think that would too much slop when not using the HTC case?

Probably. It goes in pretty easy right now, and slips right out if you tip it past horizontal. But if you get one of the closures it wont be an issue.

I now have a Nutshell on order. For an upcharge they will make it 1/4" wider and 1/4" deep so I should be able to leave the Advantage in the HTC case for safety when removed from the pouch. I'm also getting the Tab, Belt Clip and the Shoulder Strap. Hope it gets here before Christmas. I'll report back when I have it!

I ordered the shoulder strap too as I find it really too heavy when carried in a pants pocket.

How much extra was it for the extra .25 in on all sides?

My only complaint relates the the Invisible Shield I also installed on the Advantage. Pulling it in and out of the case has lifted the film on the housing at some edges.
An update on this case. After several months of daily use, its holding up well. It has a few minor scuff marks on the front from brushing against hard chair arms, but nothing obvious unless you view it with light reflecting off the surface. I would expect the same or much worse from cheaper cases. Its still solid as a rock - the velcro is still normal and the belt clip won't move at all. It supports the unit so well that I frequently forget I'm carrying it. A purchase I'm happy with. Too bad they didn't supply a case like this in the original box.

E im glad you like the site. I for one cancelled the flip and went for the crystal case and screen protector only.
Reasons:
1.) I think the flip type attaches to the case via a plastic cover on the keypad, after checking some youtube videos I was scared that this would increase the gap in the slide in the long run. If you have yourse can confirm this? Because if it fits well then I will order it again as my "business" case for formal events.
2.) For the ordinry leather belt case/diagonal sleeve, I didnt like the belt clip, its a clip on with no lock, Ive had bad experiences before with my hand accidentally hitting the case on the belt and the case and phone just flew away.
So cleare pocket case will do for me as of now. Metal aluminum would have rocked as a pocket case as well but, the problem is, it opens to the right for you to access slide out keypad making it harder to hold on two hand operation.

Yes, the plastic sleeve fits over the keyboard, but I've not had a problem with it yet (don't use the slide that much). It arrived Saturday so not had it long.

I personally went for the leather pouch as (I know not everyone will agree):
1. I've always bought the leather with clear plastic window cases before for my previous mobiles, the ones where you slide the phone in and velcro shut the lip at the top and use it while in the case. This is my first touch phone and also my first slide phone which made such a case unsuitable whereas previously it had been perfect (there is such a Touch Dual case on the site which I considered getting).
2. In the flip cases I didn't like the look of the clear plastic panel over the keypad, I thought it might impair use of the already flat and barely distinguishable keys, and I had problems with my previous phone case in that the plastic sometimes caused problems pressing certain keys and unwanted keys being pressed instead. Besides potential issues mentioned in this thread about the gap between the two halves of the phone. Plus the flip cases looked awkward to hold the phone in, especially the horizontal style, the vertical style doesn't look that bad. I do actually like the aesthetic look of the vertical style it's much nicer than the one I went for!
3. The aluminium cases were tempting for protection, but you can only use the pad and start/end call buttons while closed and the screen is out of action behind the clear hard plastic, I think if the Touch Dual had the usual two soft keys this would probably be a lot more usable. It appears you can slide the phone open when you swing the aluminium case open, but this makes me cringe with the thought that the case might be swung shut on the lovely new screen! Also it looks incredibly awkward to use in this position. Undecided on the look of these cases, part of me thinks they look cool, but at the same time they make the phone look like a tank and very ungraceful.
4. There aren't any crystal cases on the above site at the moment but I have to confess I personally don't like the look of them, even though I like the idea.
5. I was put off the "Invisible Shield" (again not available on the above site anyway) by someone's review in another thread. Plus insufficient protection for my pockets!
I personally think the pouch seems the best, and although it may not seem much more than a step up from the velvety pouch that came with the phone, it's a lot sturdier (though not as sturdy as it looks on the site), and would survive a hell of a lot longer in my jeans/trouser pocket than the supplied pouch.
I've opened the case but not used it with the phone yet. Hurriedly taking the phone out of the case for calls seems potentially frustrating, but on the other hand at least it's secure while in the case, and allows for greater freedom of use of the phone when actually out. If anyone is interested I will post again once I have used it out and about.
I was tempted to also get the aluminium case (black, I'm not sure why anyone would want a silver one with the Touch Dual) to give my phone some added protection when out drinking, as I could live with only using the two buttons and pad and leaving it in the case for the night if it meant protection against me dropping it! Strangely thought the postage shot up when I added it to the basket, so I took it off and thought I'd try the aluminium case for my Sat Nav PDA first (which needs such a case being thrown about in my bag) and see how that was, although any experience of the Touch Dual version would be welcomed!
I wanted Martin Fields SPs, but I ordered Proportia ones from the site while getting the above. I will see what they are like when I get the chance.

I think it's better looking than the expansys one and it's more protective than the HTC one. However it's quite lumpy with the clip at the front and belt clip at the back (which sticks out quite a bit). If the belt clip could be removed it would be perfect.

Thanks for the reply. I can see what you mean by the belt clip and magnetic clip. I think the htc and expansys cases also have belt clips, however I prefer the built-in magnetic 'flaps' as opposed to the clip. Does anyone know: -

Just ordered the same crystal case as donnie1 from the same ebayer so glad to hear it turned up! i just thought for £4 if it does it does and if it doesn't, 'bugger! some guy in hong kong is making a mint in £4's'. if you read this again donnie, what was the quality like and any problems with the touchflo? i read about having to adjust the sensitivity setting?
The crystal case
The quality of the case is very good considering the price, the case does not interfere with you screen area so you are able to launch/close and use touch flo with ease.The opening of the slider to recieve calls or to use as a keypad does not hinder or effect the case in any way, and there is no need to remove the case to connect your usb cable and charger, also another plus point is you'll have easy access to your memory card slot.
I don't mean to offend, but the crystal case = great way to make a nice looking device look ugly. Its kinda like putting plastic covers on seats imo, or a leather bra on a car...just tacky.
I found a very good looking generic no brand leather case, when I tested it fit perfectly, the problem was, the magent locks, they screw up your phone by launching applications randomly everytime you pull out the phone. No matter which way the phone would face, away or towards the magnet, the same results.
So I guess magnet locks wont do good for our phones, velcro anyone?
Tacky Crystal Case?
Just received my 'tacky' crystal case and funny enough it wasn't! ok so it was £4 ( call me tight!) but it fits really well and surprisingly doesn't make it look bad, i know because people have commented on it I do miss the feel of the phone cos it's so tactile, but i'd rather lose that when i need to than damage the phone. A leather case ( or mini purse ) looks great if your pda just sits on a desk looking pretty but i'm out in the field all the time and the leather wouldn't last 5 mins in my job, also the last time i bought a leather case it actually did more to damage the phone than protect it after a bit of grit got under the screen (protector?) and scratched the screen when it opened and closed. All of that aside, i do like the look of the flip case oh! oh! oh! just one other thing as musikfreakah's post reminded me, because the crystal case sets the buttons back slightly (though perfectly usable!) i no longer have the problem of taking the phone out of my pocket to find i have launched loads of apps without my knowing or the camera taking loads of dark photos

I have one, and I put the screen on the inside (PROTECTED).
I agree - if you put your screen on the outside, you deserve to get it cracked.
I just ordered one. I was just wondering about putting it in the holster screen side inward. I'm glad that you're able to do that. The clip in holster is great because you can easily get the device out without having to have any sort of permanent case on it. I guess that also means that down the road if I want to get the extended battery I can still use it with this holster and the cradle I just picked up.

I am with you on this one!
up until the last couple years most phones were either clamshell or didn't have screens this large or amazing. I personally don't have a problem with the holster since I can turn the screen side inward.

TMO HD2 holster
I just received the exact same holster from a company called Think Mobile Solutions. This holster is much cheaper, thinner and more brittle plastic than the one I bought a couple of years ago from SmartPhone Experts for my Dash. Also, the design was NOT intended to be for the "face in" which I prefer. No need to show people what's shakin' on the phone screen when it's on my belt. The tight fit "face in" is only because of this intentional design. I don't hold much hope for it to last. Oh, important, mine arrived broken. The pin that holds the belt clip busted out of the plastic, perhaps due to shipping. There really is no positive way for the pin to stay so I would check this periodically. I was able to repair my unit since I had a clip from another holster and was able to retrofit. The pin I used for this repair had an end-piece lock washer. Also, you get what you pay for. Mine was $9.99 with free shipping. SmartPhone Experts said they are working on a version. Can't wait. The original leather holster from my Dash actually does a decent job for the larger HD2.
hmmm, I'm not sure its "exact same" in terms of build quality since I got mine the other day and it is very sturdy plastic and actually fits better face-in than face out. While I don't doubt that you got one from the same mould, I purchased mine from a different company on eBay and had the opposite experience than you have had. It's a little difficult to get it in and out of the holster (two-hand task), which leads me to suspect that the European version would fit it slightly better.
TMO HD2 holster
Just found this cheap holster here - cellphoneshop.net/hd2.html - for $1.39!!!!
Yeah, while that is the same design as the one I got, it is definitely not the same one. The sturdier one has "OP" embossed in the clip and on the back has HTC-HDZ printed in the plastic. It sounds like there is a cheap knock off version and a sturdier version.
Got the holster. It is a cheaper design than the Seidio by far. I will turn on the $5 monthly protection racket before I use this holster on a routine basis.

The bottom corners are very small and snug, a perfect fit and I like them a lot. No felt lining and no room for any, but that doesn't bother me: scratches on the corners or backside of the phone are cosmetic, I got it as a working compute/communications platform not as a shiny new bling-fone.
The top clip is molded-in. The clip edge covers about 1" wide and maybe 1mm max over the top edge. It seems to not-quite clip into position all the way, like the phone is maybe 0.3mm too long and 0.2mm too deep for the latch to get all the way around the top edge. If it were a "perfect fit" then the clip would cover 2mm at the top edge, and I'd feel a lot more secure about it.
The top clip relies on the springiness of the plastic to release the phone, and relies on the stiffness of the plastic to hold it in place. It's artfully balanced - the plastic is just the right thickness and stiffness, accounting for the oversized camera-hole cutout. In fact I'm sure that's why the camera-hole cutout is the size & shape it is: to allow just the right spring-tension for the top clip. This is a more elegant use of materials and space: the Seidio uses a stiffer plastic, more of it, a steel hinge pin and a steel clothespin-style spring. Overall this unit's top clip has a 1mm lower top profile, a 2mm shorter profile, a 3mm lower bottom profile, and 0 extra parts. Call me old-school but I think this is just asking too much of the plastic, in the long run.
The belt clip assembly is fine. The depth taken up by the swivel assembly is the same as my old Seidio, at about 3mm. The clip itself leaves a bit less room for the belt, making it a nice choice for clipping over pants with no belt or a very thin belt. The depth taken up by the clip is about 4mm; my old Seidio takes up 5-6mm so this actually has a lower overall profile than the Seidio. Belt clip swivels 180 degrees with 7 ratcheting positions. Swivel, ease/firmness of movement, ease/firmness of belt clip are all very nice. The belt clip assembly uses a steel hinge pin and steel double-clothespin-style spring.
Overall: if you want a holster right now, this is likely to be a fine unit to get, and seems like a company worth supporting. It's a lower-profile, simpler design that may well turn out to be as reliable as the older Seidio.

try putting the phone in the holster face in. I think you'll find that the clip actually secures the phone with it that way. Here's my theory on that:
Either the holster was developed for the non-US HD2 (which is 1.5mm shorter) and it just so happens that the US version only really fits faced in.
OR the holster was only designed for the phone to be inserted face in.
either way, I wouldn't put the phone in the holster with the screen face out anyway since then the screen is vulnerable to being hit.

The bottom corners are very small and snug, a perfect fit and I like them a lot. No felt lining and no room for any, but that doesn't bother me: scratches on the corners or backside of the phone are cosmetic, I got it as a working compute/communications platform not as a shiny new bling-fone.
The top clip is molded-in. The clip edge covers about 1" wide and maybe 1mm max over the top edge. It seems to not-quite clip into position all the way, like the phone is maybe 0.3mm too long and 0.2mm too deep for the latch to get all the way around the top edge. If it were a "perfect fit" then the clip would cover 2mm at the top edge, and I'd feel a lot more secure about it.
The top clip relies on the springiness of the plastic to release the phone, and relies on the stiffness of the plastic to hold it in place. It's artfully balanced - the plastic is just the right thickness and stiffness, accounting for the oversized camera-hole cutout. In fact I'm sure that's why the camera-hole cutout is the size & shape it is: to allow just the right spring-tension for the top clip. This is a more elegant use of materials and space: the Seidio uses a stiffer plastic, more of it, a steel hinge pin and a steel clothespin-style spring. Overall this unit's top clip has a 1mm lower top profile, a 2mm shorter profile, a 3mm lower bottom profile, and 0 extra parts. Call me old-school but I think this is just asking too much of the plastic, in the long run.
The belt clip assembly is fine. The depth taken up by the swivel assembly is the same as my old Seidio, at about 3mm. The clip itself leaves a bit less room for the belt, making it a nice choice for clipping over pants with no belt or a very thin belt. The depth taken up by the clip is about 4mm; my old Seidio takes up 5-6mm so this actually has a lower overall profile than the Seidio. Belt clip swivels 180 degrees with 7 ratcheting positions. Swivel, ease/firmness of movement, ease/firmness of belt clip are all very nice. The belt clip assembly uses a steel hinge pin and steel double-clothespin-style spring.
Overall: if you want a holster right now, this is likely to be a fine unit to get, and seems like a company worth supporting. It's a lower-profile, simpler design that may well turn out to be as reliable as the older Seidio.
But just to be safe, I'm turning on the $5 monthly protection before I use it while walking on sidewalks or cement floors. And yes I'll replace this with a Seidio as soon as they release one for the HD2.

Thanks Travis, it's fitting better face-in. I dremeled out the bottom corners a bit - they were angled to match the glass-out orientation - and now the top clip fits just right.
yeah, I noticed that the bottom corners are slightly angled. I'll have to dremel those out as well. After owning the holster for a week I've noticed that the plastic does loosen up a bit for ya, so now it clips in and out of the holster pretty nicely, but stays in when you want it to... I'm pleased.

The first time I wore this clip in a car, I had the phone out of the holster to use the Bing navigation (thanks Bing!) and it's a good thing. When I got out of the car and snapped the phone into the holster, it came apart in my hands. The clip hinge had broken where one of 2 plastic eyelets are on the clip part.
If I'd had the phone in the holster while driving, it probably would have tumbled to the pavement as I got out of the car.
Okay, so today I bought a brand new HTC HD2 [T-Mobile version] and i'm looking for a case. I've been expecting on buying one for a few weeks now and have already been looking at cases. It's really hard for me to make this decision on protecting my device, I need design, protection, and features but I have 3 options provide only 1 of those needs. Here are my options:

So this is my design option. It's very stylish and I absolutely love it. It was the first case I loved for the HTC HD2, but I'm sacraficing design for protection and features. The best part about this case is that it's stylish, and that it gives great protection to the camera, also matches my new chrome headphones! Big PLUS. It's $20, which are the same price as the other two. The down side to this case is that i've read when taking it off, it scratches the phone easily and is hard to take off.
PROTECTION
This is my protection option. The case is made of alumnium and is very durable, it covers the T-Mobile logo which is important to me because I hate branding. The inside of the case is lined with a foam padding and the case is very easy to take off. It has hinges where you just pull and it unlocks. Down sides are mainly design wise, it's a little to plain and industrial looking for me. It also does not provide cover of the camera, another important thing.
FEATURE
This case is actually alright in attractive-ness. Looks a little bulky but nice, provides decent protection. I've heard it's semi-difficult to take off and sometimes scratches the phone. Plus side is that it has a KICKSTAND, which might come in handy for me when watching the many movies I have in store on putting on the device.
So what do you think? What should I go for?
personnaly i would go for the first one, the other two are just to bulky and ugly for my liking. but if not the first one then the last one. the aluminum one just doesnt look right

I added a poll, when I get my HD2 which should be around Wednesday I will close it and choose the option with the most votes. I'd still like to hear comments and possibly other options if you don't like any of those. I prefer the brand name [just the way I roll], I really can't wait for that Otterbox communter series case to come out.
Why don't you get a cloth pouch? I find those to be much better. I personally prefer to hold the phone as it is without any cases attached to it as it really destroys the beauty of the device in my opinion.
When I got my LG Incite, a few years ago I bought a clear, hardshell case for it. I one day took it off finally [it was so hard to take off] and their were scratches all over the phone even though I put it on new and took it off for the first time 3 days later. After that I was a silicone person and silicone only! Bought 7 silicone cases for that Incite after I got the replacement from warranty. After my Incite I bought a Fuze, got a silicone case for it but it was really annoying and to a point where it would fall off everytime I held the phone [after 4 days]. After the annoying silicone I got a hard case with a carbon fiber design. Every hard case I owned was 2 piece, so when I went to take it off after the hassle It took to put it on, the screen would sometimes pulsate from disconnecting something I suppose which freaked me out. I then got a ATT Tilt 2. There were no silicone cases out for it and so I was desperate and settled for a rubberized hard case. I didn't use it till I cracked it for easy application and removal, still only used it 2 times maybe. Still in fear of another "pulsating" screen. Now i'm where I am today, I have way more options than the other phones previously.

The problem with hard cases is simple. It does not block out the tiny particles that build up inside the case over time. And some of these particles will scratch the phone and/or screen if you have tiny grit and stuff stuck in it that came either from the wind, in your pocket, your hands, etc.
I speak from the perspective of using hard cases on the PSP, and no matter how good the protection is, it simple doesn't stop tiny particles from getting in there. *Shrugs*
I know, that's why I'm buying a Case-Mate GO BARE full body protecter that does not need a solution to be applied along with 1 of these cases.

The first one is the Case Mate barely there correct? I thought their cases only fit the international versions, same for their Go Bare kits.
Assuming all three fits your phone, I'd go with the first one for a practical reason. When a case protrudes over the surface of the surface edge, I often have trouble hitting the Ok/X to close/minimize an app. I find that I need that a lot along with other things that are at the edge of the screen. The standard rubber case only sticks out a little but it still gets in the way.
Personally I'd just go with the Go Bare when they finally make one for the US HD2 and forget about the hard cases. I don't think they offer more protection than the rubber one. The phone is pretty sturdy, the weakest part is the glass screen, that's more vulnerable to shock and the rubber offers more protection from shock than most hard cases.
The Go Bare and Case-Mate Barely There both fit the US version as well. I honestly would prefer an OtterBox Defense case, but who knews if one will ever come out. The last one for HTC phones was for the touch! Their working on a Commuter Series right now. Thinking about the Case-Mate one though...

You do realize that there is a size difference between the US and the euro models of the HD2, right? Hard cases made for the euro models will not fit the US model as the US model is taller.
Are you sure all of those cases fit the TMOUS HD2? It is 1.5mm taller than the Eurasian HD2, and all of those stock photos show the classic white hardware buttons that are indicative of Eurasian HD2s. I am 100% certain that the hard cases (i.e. no "give" to the material) designed for the Eurasian and Australian HD2s (T8585 and T9193) will NOT fit the TMOUS HD2, especially not the Case-mate Barely There which is a criminally tight case.
The Case-Mate does defenitly fit it, I read a review on the case-mate site where someone said it does in fact fit. The kickstand one is from the T-Mobile website, so I dont think they would sell something that does not fit their own device. The alumnium one Also is made for the T-Mobile one as well.
Also, The case mate one does NOT cover the top and bottom of the phone, basically only the back. Plus, 1.5mm is a very very small ammount.

True, but if you notice the top and bottom curve in a little bit. Basically with that one you're guaranteeing scratching of the rubber if you put it on the TMO.
Cases are useless if they don't protect your device, so the aluminum one is probably best.
Oh how much I yearn for a OtterBox Defense.... LOL.
I currently have that 3rd case that i picked up from a t-mobile store. I haven't had any trouble with dust but i also use it in combination with an old sidekick pouch that i had lying around. I use the kickstand at least once a day and i just took off my case, no scratches on it. There is a possibility that there will be scratches if you constantly have to remove the case to perform a battery pull which i don't do often. In my opinion the case looks great. I used to have one of those full protection skins on my PSP and i didn't really like it because of all the points where there wasn't any protection would attract a nasty amount of dirt. I must admit that otterbox case looks great. I would consider buying one if a t-mobile version came out.

I'm the opposite. I've always thought hard cases look cheap. I've always gotten a quality custom made leather case for every one of my last 5 or 6 devices. Either Vaja, Noreve, or Piel Frama.... so I get to pick my colors and types of leather. They have always protected my devices perfectly, and look better and fit better with age as they get worn in. Usually use a belt-clip with them, too. Right now I have the Noreve case for my HD2, but I'm hoping Vaja makes a case for the USA HD2, because those cases look beautiful... actually have to say it's one of the best looking cases I've ever seen. Would go with Black and red or black and green for the colors.... and get a chain attachment instead of a beltclip. Leathers cases are expensive for quality, but for the price of my devices, I'd say they are well worth it. Plus it's kinda a fashion accessory. It's one thing I have on me at all times, so I want it to look good.

easy to take of and put on feels great in the hand and has raised enough edges to where it protects both buttons and screen (not from sharp ass corners) I accidentally dropped mine from about 3 or 4 feet up directly onto the top right corner (not on purpose) and it just bounced and landed on its face and nothing happened, phone was perfect,
BTW after having a million phones and a million different cases, hard cases are the worst to have especially if your planning on pocketing them, , Ive noticed(not from just my experience but also from family members) that when you have a hard case and you rarely take it off,
when ridding in your pocket it tends to pick up lint and dirt in between the phone and case (there for the cause of scratches behind the protective case) and not just that but when you handle your phone the hard case tends to flex un-noticeably and that puts wear on the phones finish.
the only way i would ever rock a hard case is if i had a leather pouch to put it in (with the hard case installed) which is a huge pouch that i have yet to find
or if it was an easily removable case that you could take off once a week or so to clean the dust out
I love the chrome case (looks SEXAY) but after a while of setting it down on tables its gonna look like $#1T because all the scratches are gonna be super noticeable, and out of the three it will most likely scratch your phone the most when removing it
the clear "T-mobile" brand case probably will probably not scratch your phone upon removal but clear cases really look like ass after a while after a few scratches, because it starts getting this foggy look to it, and one of my friends bought the same kind of case for his G1 (long time ago) and after a while of pulling the kick stand out the stand broke
so the clear winner IMO for durability, ease of removal, and protection is the hard, bulky, and ugly aluminum case lol
just remember you have to take the cases off once in a while if you have the phone in your pocket because the lint(even though it sounds funny) will scratch your phone when making friction with the inside of the case
but these are all things I dont have to deal with because i have my sexay sexay Gel case that is easy to remove and i barely ever have to clean
Oh and just in case you don't know what a GEL/TPU case is here is a video of one (for the Euro HD2) if you decide to get one make sure its for the TmoUS version because that 1.5mm makes a difference when it comes to these cases

Impact
Pros:Cheap, offers decent protection, easy to take on and take off
ConsA lint magnet (REALLY!), doesn't look very classy, doesn't have cover for the ports, not easy to take out of pockets, lack of belt clip
This is the first of the three cases I got. It's the one I've used for about a month already. My biggest issue with it is that it's a big lint magnet. The case picks up all the dust and lint in your pocket and I find myself constantly cleaning it. Also the lack of covers for the ports can be annoying especially if your pocket is quite dirty

Communter
Pros:Classy look, hard shell, doesn't seem like as much a lint magnet as Impact, ports cover, buttons are a bit recessed on the top much nicer than the Impact buttons
Conslack of belt clip, bottom HDMI port cover doesn't seem to snap in place and is lose, took me a few tries to put it on right as it's rather a tight fit, not as easy as the Impact to take off and put on
This is the case that I think looks the nicest out of the three. The hard shell and finish on the back make it look really classy. My two issues with it are the HDMI port cover doesn't seem to really hold in place (see the photo below) and I'm worried that over time it may rip off and it doesn't have a belt clip. The perfect combo would be Communter with Defender's clip.

Defender
Pros:Belt clip! best protection out of the three, port covers
Cons:Too expensive, too big, when out of the belt clip doesn't feel all that good in hand
This is the most expensive of the three cases and to be honest, I was rather disappointed. When out of the belt clip, the defender just feels like the Impact and I felt the outter part doesn't fit all that nice around the hard inner shell. I was worried it may peel off over time. Also the Defender does add quite a lot of size to the Streak so it may carrying around it much more difficult. Even with the belt clip, it is a rather big thing to carry around on the belt. Also, with the snap in belt clip, I find it a bit difficult to take it off for calls, maybe if I kept on using it i'd get better.

Ok, so that's it. I think the perfect combo for me would have being the Communter with Defender's belt clip but as life is, I'd settle for the Communter. Hope this is useful for people who are thinking of buying an Otterbox case.
Thanks for the review. I agree, the commuter seems to be a nice "just right" between the two. An option for a screw-in belt clip would be nice, but I prefer to carry in my pocket.

I have the first one, and I must say that I agree with everything you say except for the lint issue. I don't have that problem at all. If lint is your issue, perhaps it's your laundry. As for the bulkiness of the case, hate it. The buttons are too pronounced, and the port is not protected at all. This case is fail. Anyone want to buy this off me?
Thank you very much for these reviews! I am waiting for my Defender case too arrive. I ordered one from Dell and waited and waited, then got an email saying there had been a delay. I found one on eBay for $20 less plus free shipping so I ordered it with intentions on returning the original back to Dell if it ever got here. The day after I ordered the eBay, the Dell one had been shipped- go figure!
Anyway, I am anxious for it to come. I dropped my IP3g two weeks ago and the glass broke (no otterbox) so I quickly ordered one for it and it arrived last night- LOVE it! I'm hoping the one for my Streak is a good as the one for my IP.

I too have all three cases, and have settled with the Commuter as my daily driver, for exactly the same reasons that you are describing.
The Commuter feels indeed as the most polished of the bunch; really adding to the Streak's classy look, plus the added protection. It does feel a bit more slippery at times though, due to the hard shell plastic.
All in all all three cases are great protection options for the Streak.
It feels like a device has it made in the market, when OtterBox decides to support it.
Peronsally, I really like the belt clip of the defender, just feel like they should have made the belt clip an option for the Communter as well. Or if the Defender had a hard outter shell instead the Impact like rubber outter shell then it would have being perfect for me.

Yeah, most likely it is my laundry. However, do you not find it collects dust really easily? Also can't wipe it with a tissue as the white stuff from the tissue gets stuck on it too...

Defender does take much longer time to deliver than the other two...
I recently purchased a Poetic Slimbook case for my Nexus 7. I got it for $7 from Amazon. It's up to $10 now.

I don't have my camera so I can't take pictures, but the pictures on Amazon do an excellent job of showing it off. The construction seems quite good. There's no cuts or anything in the leather and the stitching is neat. As you can imagine, it adds a bit of weight and some girth to the tablet. I consider that a good thing, because my Nexus 7 seems very well protected. It seems like it could survive a big fall, but I don't intend to test it.
The device goes in easily. You wouldn't think that a leather flap could keep it in, but it's not going anyplace. Nevertheless, it is easy to remove the device from the case if you want to. The lid is held shut by magnets on the top and bottom right. The "smart" cover also turns the device on and off as expected.
I think there's going to be a break-in period before I feel comfortable using it as a stand in the nearly upright position. It's pretty stiff and quite wobbly. It seems to work fine in the lower position (see the Amazon pictures for details/explanation). Since I didn't really intend to use it as a stand much, it's not a big deal for me.
All of the ports and buttons are easily accessible, although it is now a smidge more difficult to press the buttons. The speaker in the back is completely exposed. It does cover the bezel, but the good news is that the cover does not come right up to the edge of the screen itself. There is a little bit of bezel visible. That means that typing, etc., is not impeded in anyway. I like the bezel being covered because I know that there's no way my Nexus 7 would slip out.
On the inside of the cover there are little pockets to put things like business cards, tickets to sporting events, etc. There's a larger pocket behind those where you could put a check, cash, or something like that. There's also an elastic band that you can use to hold it without fear of dropping it. It works well enough, but the case itself isn't slippery, so I'm not sure how much I'd use it. It's nice to have in case I need it.
Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase. I was expecting much less for $7 with free shipping. I thought this might be a stop-gap case until something nicer comes out. As it is, I don't think I'll be in the market for anything else. Now I can stop being paranoid about my kids dropping something on the screen.

OK, I had originally thought I could go without a cover on the Nexus 7, until I found the Poetic Slimbook cover on Amazon for under $7 shipped. The case has not disappointed at all, but how can you for disappoint for $6.95? The smart cover capabilities work great and are a nice feature (see attached video for a short demonstration). The cover is held in place with magnets that fit firmly, but not too firm, you can hear the magnets snap in the video too. As revmra mentioned, the case adds some weight and girth to the tablet, but compared to previous tablet cases, one being an otterbox, it is really minimally invasive. The leather and stitching seem high quality, as well as the hand strap. All ports, buttons, speaker and camera are open and accessible. The volume rocker and power button are a little tougher to access since the side of the nexus has a curve to it, but with smart cover tech, I can't see myself using them that terrible much. The hand strap works well and the "kickstand" abilities of this case work better than my other leather case that I had for the Kindle Fire. I will echo the sentiment that the case appears to be able to withstand a fall and give protection to the N7. The edges have leather protruding outward, which should cushion the fall if it lands on a side or corner, and the case has a little padding if it falls flat on the front or back.

All in all, it is a great value for $6.95 and probably still worth it for $12.95 which it has shot up to now. It will be good for me until something cool comes out, like a case with a backup battery, microSD slot and USB port or something like that...

Are any of you finding the case to be a bit "stiff" when it's brand new?
I just got my case today, and I am finding 2 issues:
(1) the front cover does not sit flat when closed. Specifically, where there is a fold in the leather, it pops out ever so slightly.
(2) the stand function seems a bit flimsy to me. When I put it in on its stand (where the tab is at its most vertical position), I find that the tab isn't holding the flap very well, such that the tablet has a tendency to fall down on the screen.
Does it put tablet to sleep when the cover folded back?

My cover sits flat, but the stand only seems to work in the nearly upright position, the back slips out in the lower position.

It's a little stiff, yes. The "fold" in the cover is so you can use it as a stand, so it won't lie completely flat. Not a huge deal and probably will get better with use. The tab on the back is VERY stiff on mine (which is probably good), but I think it will work better as a stand over time as well.

I assume you mean when the cover is behind the device when you are holding it? No, it does not. The cover only puts it to sleep when you close it.

Did you read my review? There are magnets that hold the cover closed and a magnet to active the sleep/wake feature, all of which work very nicely.
thanks for the review but i cannot understand how anyone can use a case that covers up the bezel.
not only does it look ugly (IMO), it hinders functionality. it makes it so much more difficult to swipe in from the side.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or beer-holder, as the case may be). That's why I made the specific point about the fact that the bezel is not 100% covered. Every part of the screen is available, plus a small amount of space on the side. I have not found functionality to be limited in any way, even though I was kind of expecting it. With the bezel mostly covered you know the device is not going anywhere.
I do know what you mean, though. I've got a case for my HTC Desire where the bezel is covered. I often found myself taking it out to use it because the case interfered. Having said that, that case saved my bacon more than once when I dropped my phone. Of course, the Nexus has a far more substantial bezel. While I heard some people complaining about that, here is one situation where it is a definite benefit.
I looked at some of the cases that just hold on at the corners. I think I'd be too paranoid to have one like that. To each, their own.

Agreed that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I had an HTC Flyer w/ the Bluerex case. My brother also purchased this Nexus 7 and got the Poetic case that sort of reminds me of the Bluerex, where the tab is held by 6 tabs, but leaves the bezel completely accessible. I'd agree that the case my brother got is a bit more attractive, but I felt like the Slimbook offered a tad bit more protection since it covers the bezel. The design of the slimbook is adequate, in my eyes, plus at $7, I'm not complaining.
It's all a matter of opinion.
I got one similar to this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IEGS9W/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 sorta looks the same. Everything the first two poster said is true. My n7 fits perfectly , the fit feel and overall structure of the case is by far more then what I expected for the price. Giving that it also has puts the n7 to sleep when close is just lovely. I have yet to test it out in stand-up mode seems a bit trouble some to do. Bit if that works well it will be great for gaming since it only stands up in landscape mode. Other then that for the price its a great case.. also fast shipping I ordered it this pass sunday and got it yesterday or today (did t check the mail) its winner in my books.
Also it was $9.95 at the time of purchase
I just got a Poetic Slimbook from Amazon. I paid a bit more than some of you guys, but it works a treat. No issues whatsoever with the magnet. It locks the screen when closing the front cover, and it's not so strong that it causes the Nexus 7 to lock when it's folded back.
I'm already making use of the stylus loop. The only thing I think could be better is the angle when it's set up as a stand. It's too high, Otherwise, I couldn't really ask for a better case. The holes are in the right places, it's got card pockets, and it has a stylus loop.
It would be nice if the card pockets featured an integrated bag of holding, but I suppose it's a bit much to ask for magic at that price.
I have it, and I'm really pleased.
Does anybody know how the auto screen lock actually works? It really intrigues me!
