HTC TyTn II on orange - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi all, right... where to begin?!?!
I ahve the HTC touch also and basically im trying to decide which to keep..
Im happy with my touch, but have soem questions regarding the Kaiser...
Basically, how do i change the homescreen to the same as the touch one (3 buttoms, big clock etc).... ? i have 4 options in my menu but none are remotely simular to the touch... ive seen it on the kaiser, just figure its oranges way of messing with your head....
can anyone give me some brief info and advise, tips or tricks?
other than that i'll sell the kaiser.... but id sooner learn how to properly use it first
cheers all for reading

hey,
anyone out there atall had a orange tytn II? that could offer some advise?

Hmmm.... it's a difficult one.. It all depends on what you want it for really.
You can still sell Kaiser's for £300 + , and if all you want is a phone where you can listen to music, watch some movies/shows, I'd sell the Kaiser.
That's my opinion, but i'd have a good think about it, only you can make the decision.
In regards to the today screen, you can have a much more functional HTC home plugin on the Kaiser I think, with up to 6 buttons whoch all come in handy. In case you don't know, you can also have the HTC Cube on the Kaiser, the same as that which you get on the Touch..

No Worries, This may help also (ignore the two 3 phones I've added on at the end)
http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/c...anyNameSearch=39035736&submit.x=44&submit.y=1
And as I'm sure you know, the Touch does have music playback, so no idea why it's left blank on there

this is cool, future touchflo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LRbkHOllLA&eurl=http://msmobiles.com/news.php/6755.html
soo is this available as an update
if that was a real sales pitch count me out - a poor attempt to try and mimic the iPhone, they should innovate like their slogan instead of following behind.
Only new feature is the zoom - but honestly how many use your pda as a camera/picture viewer. Now if they also upgraded the camera so as to be on par with nokia's lens' and the n95's spec then I would agree with the R&D in this area.
forgot about the rotate feature...something tells me it would be easier to press the rotate soft key.....
overall you can tell that I am not happy with this upgrade. Sure it can't do no harm but I think that their time could have been spent researching new features yet to be seen by Windows Mobile.
how about a cube like this on your herald?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1552994&postcount=292
that cube looks pretty nice...lovin the skin. I am actually working on my own cube, trying to make a 6 sided cube (although i'm startin to think it will become quite aggravating to find a side quickly if you are in a rush...whaddya think) with some custom animations. recently inspired to make it into a matrix theme.
not sure if you have seen this thread but it makes it quite simple. YOu should try and implement it into your kaiser port
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=325424
and btw in regards to the first post the gurus over at pocket cm seemed to have pretty much mimic most of the features from the new touchflo in their pocketcm picture viewer. Give em some time and it will be better than HTC's version, im sure of it.
I know of that link. thats where i got the one i posted
I am folowing that thread to see if there is anything I want to use.
BTW. having more "sides" on the cube is ok idea, but making one that wont kill memory is a tough one my brother in law is a compter programmer, and im talking with him about a multisided cube, maybe there is coming something cool from that part in a while but no promises
about the kaiser port, we will see, first I have to make it work flawless before thinking about what to put in it.
sounds good, keep us all posted on any future developments.
as for the original topic...we all know HTC use Qualcomm chipsets in the past. Maybe with this new deal of AMD liscensing the new graphics technology introduced in the xbox360 (Unified Shader Architecture) to Qualcomm, we should be able to be able to have the memory from the animations use a dedicated graphics card (graphics card in ppc is not new -i think the flame has one)....just imagine OpenGL 2.0 running ported on a pocket pc. Possibilities are unimaginable right now. I think this is where HTC's R&D money should be going....but for all I know its already in the making...one can only hope
yeah that would be a giant step forward.
Im hoping its not so, but im afraid they will take tiny mouse steps forward, just so they can sell more phones.....they know we are addicted, and will buy.....lol

yeh for sure, its proven already that they only include one maybe two major upgrades per phone. Much more profitable marketing scheme. Just gotta know which phones to get, the people who purchase the Tytn II are going to be getting a pretty good phone that should b around for long. Where as a phone like the HTC Touch will get outdated pretty quick (Touch Dual already in production.) I'm sure when phones begin to be released with graphics cards built in they will surely only make them w/o keyboards, then another one with keyboard...then some "New and Improved Graphics Card" that doesn't waste as much battery (which they probably had from the begining.)
I guess you just gotta know to wait for the last one...

Guess the whole cube thing is useless. all of these skins mean nothing - when you use your device, and not just flicking this cube back and forth for hours
Sweet looks cool. I would love that for my phone. When will ver 2 be out? I have a problem with touthflo. I can use the cube once then if i try again it wont load. It just flips up then flips away. I have to soft reset the phone to use it again. Is there a fix for this? I have this prob with any touchflo rom. Even my mda with touchflo does this.

as far as i understand, TouchFlo contains not only Сube. As for me - i want only finger scrolling. And it is still imperfect

Anyone noticed using touch screen in games slows down device?

I mean its ridicolous like games like virtual pool which ran on my 300mhz xscale ipaq at full speed slows to a crawl once I start touching the cue stick or ball onscreen. When I am not touching the screen in any game like ffrace or wolfenstein or duke3d or krally it runs pretty well (though not as fast as a 400mhz xscale of samsung device) but once I touch the screen the graphics slow to a halt. It makes awesome games like call of duty 2 virtually unplayable unless you can set the game to just use the hardware buttons or keypad, but not all games have such an option.
Whats the deal? the HTC Trinity had this problem on earlier roms but I am running Dutty's latest rom with the very latest CE build and it still has this problem.
Welcome in the wonderfull world of the Kaiser. You like gaming ? Don't buy a Kaiser !
About COD2, I also tried to play the game without touching the screen, only by pressing the buttons, but it is very slow anyway (unplayable from my point of view).
But I would be glad if I only had problems with COD2 !!!
ive been trying to find a way to fix this problem, i think it can be done, but i would need a rom cooker? someone who is famaliar with a rom (or device) which it's screen does not slow down when pressed. we may be able to get the touchscreen driver from this device. i know theres someone out there that can help.

the Universal, for example. that is, non-2.8) models.
(BTW, i my articles, I've thoroughly disussed this problem and was among the first, 2 years ago,to report the problem to HTC. Too bad they still haven't bothered fixing it..)
it is more than just the touch screen drivers its the Direct 3D and other graphics driver that dont exisit on the Kaiser at all if you would read the other threads there is a large pool of money for the first person to make these drivers and get them working on the Kaiser... HTC screwed everyone with there advertising and I have to admit this phone is ****ing slow for what it should be i think all processors should be atleast 900mhz to make it fast enough for me

Menneisyys,
This problem would pretty much cripple the Polaris/Cruise. Do you think this will be a problem for this device as well. I have posted this question several times, but so far all I have gotten is anecdotal replys about the screen being the same as the Touch. The Touch is also 2.8 screen but some people suggest the screen technology is different, so it works better. I have tried a friends Touch, and it does seem to be better, but not dramatiaclly better and from an external standpoint, all I can tell is that it is flush mounted instead of inset.
So from someone who understands the internals, is there any reason why the screens used for the Touch and (assuming) the soon to be relased Cruise perform better?

Should i Buy TytnII or not?

I'm very much interested in buying this device, but after reading all the threads here and Petition...I'm totally confused.
Can anyone please sum it up ? whats going on? Should i buy it or not? Video playback issue is been solved or not?
I don't have any other device in my mind with the same specifications..
Please help me out.
Yeah im debating whether i should keep mine or not.. Seems like this video driver thing wont ever get resolved by HTC, who knows? .. Maybe when another phone that has the same chipsets releases, a developer from XDA can extract some stuff from there.. but it looks like its not going to be any time soon. Sorry for being pessimistic but I feel like i am being realistic here. HTC has no desire to fix a phone thats been out for some time now when by next year there will be an upgraded version of the phone.
Only question is... What phone should i swap it for? the Iphone? blahhhh....
Definately get it, although there are a few small nags with it, such as the video problem its still a fantastic device and just so much better than anything else out there IMO.
The GPS is fantastic, its very fast and very stable with the Cooked ROM such as Schaps or duttys. I have never had it crash on me yet and ive owned it over 2 months now. Ive only ever had to reset for planned things such as program installs etc.
Overall its a really superb device and i cant recommend it enough!
+1. Best phone I've ever used.
I love my TyTN II/Tilt.
I like my Kaiser but if you dont need GPS then you why not think about a Hermes? i personally like it a whole load better because there is a lot bigger mod scene with the Hermes. Also a slight drawback at the min is lack of sim unlock for the Kaiser so am using it as my second back up phone. My oppinions may change mind once i get it unlocked and use it more. will keep you posted
sean pint- just goto ebay and search for kaiser/tilt unlock. Once you find a seller make sure he has good feedback and buy it. I got mine for 15 dollars. Ive heard of people paying 10. It took about 6 hours for the seller to email me the unlock code. Simple as that. Good luck!!
I searched and researched for 6 months before buying my TyTN II. I love it. Sure the video driver issue is frustrating but you know what? Even with that issue its the best PDA/Phone available.
I have had mine for almost 2 months and have never had a lockup or any other problem that made me reset it.
I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything.
If you do decide not to get it, I will echo the suggestion made earlier to get a Hermes. There is A LOT available for that device too.... but for me the Kaiser is the kit to get.
PS: The phone in my experience is OUTSTANDING.
Thanks for the Feedback guys....
Can anyone elaborate more? like what kind of issue one can face with video playback? Like does it really lag bad ? or it just bearable? Or video is just lagging in one specific format?
Does this video issue get solved if i change to third party firmware?

I would not buy this device again. It might look cool but it can give you too many frustrations. My TyTN I is infinitely more reliable.
If you are a very easy-going rich individual or a gadget freak that just has to buy this cool looking device, you should get it. It looks good, the GPS works well, wireless, etc, all good.
Here's what NOT to expect though:
1. Good camera/video recording quality
2. Anything close to acceptable video playback quality
3. 3d acceleration if you play games
4.Smooth browsing with Pocket Internet Explorer
5. Anything close to an acceptable customer service
You might also get other problems. My Kaiser for instance doesn't register fast consecutive keystrokes of the same letter. So I open PIE, I type www.google.com and it comes out as ww.gogle.com (Before anyone tells me to change the Up/Down key delay in the settings, I've already done that and the problem is always there). It's sooo much fun getting the cursor back there to correct it!!!
Browse the forums, you'll get an idea of how many bad surprises the Kaiser might hold for you, thanks to the lack of quality control by HTC. Sorry to disappoint you but if stability is your concern, don't listen to the voices luring you to buy this thing.

I have entered in bold my views on the above posters comments.
Here's what NOT to expect though:
1. Good camera/video recording quality
There is an art to getting very acceptable quality with the camera. So good quality is possible and takes better semi-light pictures than TyTn I - see here: http://www.pocketables.net/2007/12/california-thro.html
2. Anything close to acceptable video playback quality
My problems were solved via the latest Core Player. You just need to get the settings right and most videos are fine.
3. 3d acceleration if you play games
Don't use that much though my Duke Nukem is working just fine!!
4.Smooth browsing with Pocket Internet Explorer
There is a very easy fix in CAB form available for the PIE problem that takes less than 10 minutes to solve.
5. Anything close to an acceptable customer service
Never had any need for it so I cannot comment on this.
Back to me again!!
I use both TyTn I and TyTn II. My TyTn II a non branded vHTC device was smooth, fast and usable straight from the box. Video has been sorted by Core Player (latest). Yes the camera takes practice and you need to understand the auto focus (or else you'll get fuzzy pics - but once you get the hang of it it's better than TyTn I)
I was re-setting my TyTn I every two weeks. I have yet to crash my Kaiser and only soft reset after application installation if necessary. I have NEVER had to hard reset the device in several months of ownership.
I would advise against branded devices with loads of bloatware that can cause all sorts of slow downs on any device.
This is the first device I have been able to accept without endless mods and tweaks just to get in semi acceptable. Of course I have done several tweaks, but that's 'cos I enjoy doing it!!
To be honest, my general view is that folk have fewer issues with the Kaiser than the TyTn I and certainly fewer alignment and screen problems. Hanging and freezing were common on TyTn I, I hardly see that on the Kaiser and when it does it seems that if you leave it for a couple of minutes it sorts itself ou rather than needing a soft reset.
YES, if you read here or any of the Fora, you will see folk talking about nothing but problems. This is a FALSE picture - of course folk post their problems, that's what the forum is for!!
I have been around here since before the TyTn I and on balance I would not hesitate in opting for the Kaiser, though I still like the TyTn I Hermes as a very capable device - but it needs love and a lot of tweaks!!
Mike
Thanks for the input guys.
But seriously if you are buying a device by keeping in mind that it will run each and everything which you throw on it, than i think no one will buy this device...Its not about rich and all...I'll be getting this device as my primary fone and it will be performing everywork, from excel to presentation...Emails/browsing.
But after reading all the reviews and all its totally holding me back to get this device. I was more inclined to "HTC Advantage" but due to its size its holding me back..i just can't carry that brick everywhere with me..where as TytnII was the perfect for me...but its drivers are making major issue here.
I don't want to go with TytnI....i want to stick to the latest phone because in few months or so new WM 7 will be launching soon ..and when WM 7 going to Launch than no one will give a flying**** to tytnI ....
What i'm looking in device is:
Sliding QWERTY keyboard
GPS
Fast Processor above 500Mhz
I never thought to look on ebay actually. Is it the same system to unlock a tilt aswell as a vario III. just thinking because the tilt is american and the Vario III is on T-Mobile in the uk. Anyone recomend a good seller on ebay?
al just thought i would try a virgin sim and that works but when i put my 3 sim in it says its locked. rather strange

I wants some advices!

'twer it me, It would come down to only two things to decide.
1.) Do I want Windows Mobile or can I deal with Android.
2.) Do I want a slide out keyboard or screen keyboard.
Those would be the only two deciding factors for me. Everything else is either comparable or it not that important to me.
If the Hero comes with HTC Sense., that would sway me towards the Hero. ( WoW , cool, first one on the block factor )
Get both. Problem solved.

I would much rather the hardware keyboard. I have a Kaiser, and while I haven't used another HTC screen keyboard, I have used the one on my son's LG Vu and my wife's iPhone, and I still prefer the hardware keyboard. As does my son, who can't wait for me to upgrade to the TP II so he can inherit my Tilt.

Hi l3v5y
I haven´t used them but thinking on how important is to me the keyboard I´ll go for TP2 with my eyes closed
Cheers,
yeah me too inclined towards hardware keyboard factor
but then you should also consider the qualcomm driver issue if you use the device for heavy multimedia applications
i will choose touch pro 2 for my kind of use
Videos of the Hero show me that it's virtual keyboard is one of the best out there so maybe give it a shot before passing judgment. The Touch HD's onscreen keyboard was mediocre but Finger Keyboard 2.1 solved my issues.

Hehe...
I might have a Hero for sale soon... I might not though... Need to get it sorted out first though.
I like to follow the idea of not judging a book by its cover. For example, I decided an iPhone was not at all worth its sticker price after trying it out off friends. I did enjoy its apps and wanted them so I ended up getting an iPod touch just so I can use those apps. That's why you should try out that phone. If you are truly unsatisfied, then yes go for the TP2. Another phone that seems worth a look is the Samsung Omnia Pro btw. The OLED screen and 800MHz CPU make for attractive options.
Be a happy wm user and get the TP2!
ID rather had a hardware keyboard also after losing my Wing (repairs atm) its kind of a pain using an onscreen keyboard and im using the opal so now hardware keyboard .
Another TP2
WM & Hardware keyboard do it for me
Oh and it just looks awesome
had WM from the 1st orange spv (nov 2002)
now have a hero....got to say try one before you judge it
the phone is.......VERY good
im very happy with my new toy

Need to get a contract organised, but it's looking like I might go towards the Rhodium... Purely because I really like WM at the moment, and like the direction it's going. But, I'll try a Hero if and when I get one, and might love it...

Celluon CL850 Bluetooth Laser Projection Keyboard

I'm stuggling to get my CL850 Bluetooth Laser Projection Keyboard working with my HD2.
I had it working fine with my HD with the manufacturers WM6.0 Drivers but I'm getting a "security database" error on my HD2?
I'm hoping that it may just be a BT Stack issue and that a new (or different) Radio Version may solve the problem.
I'm still on Rom 1.48 with Radio 2.06.51.07 - I've had so much added to my ROM I haven't had the time to upgrade it as yet
Has anyone had any success with other Rom or Radio versions?
Thanks in advance....
PS. There's a similar posting (not mine) in the HD2 General Forum but I thought it sits better here as its an accessory.....
.
Just bumping this in the hope that someone can help???
I've upgraded to ROM 1.66.405.2 with Radio 2.06.51.07 but still not having any success??? Anyone got any ideas?

OK - So the first time in response to you post I'm smiling and showing some patience - now I'm really wondering WHY you have replied? Do YOU have this keyboard? Are YOU having problems with the current BT Stack on the HD2 with other devices? Do YOU have something useful to share with us? Mmmmm..... I wonder?

Bluinput
I got one of these for £44 on Ebay Basically as a space saver if I wanted to use my HD2 as a document editor on a train/plane (will need a kick stand battery for this though)
There is a definate problem with BT on the HD2 in trying to get this to interface. Works OK on my XDA Orbit2 though.
I'm waiting to see if BlueInput will address the issue when it is released. Currently this is in Beta testing at the moment.
Given that micro-projectors are starting to be put into phones, how long will it be before we see laser projection interfaces built into a phone?
sooooo
anything? lets hear some good news. i love my celluon
no support for 6.5
I have the same problem. There is no solution because there is no support for windows mobile 6.5. Look at www.celluon.com and write an email with a request for a new driver/firmware for windows mobile 6.5 like I did and then wait....
Have you tried the WM6.1 driver?
I think i had it working on my Kaiser.
I havent tried the driver on my HD2 yet!
I have bought a second-hand of this , but no where I can find bluetooth software for it , so I can only use it throught USB, could anybody have this keyboard kindly share a copy of the shipped CD ? or point me to some place to download ? thank in advance. My email is [email protected]
