Surfing with the WLAN - HTC Wings

Hi
I have a strange thing on my phone. I connect to my AP and I can use Skype, - with no problems. But if I want to surf with IE or Win Live messenger it says it can't connect because network connection is not available or it's a connection error. I have in Settings/Connections/Advanced internet set on automatic or if I change to my AP it's the same. IE and MSN don't work but skype does.
What is the problem?
Any ideas?

Instead of using DHCP configure IP address, mask, DNS etc manually. Maybe setting different DNS could help.

Wifi and use of IP address

I cannot connect to wifi. It says connected and it says i have an IP address but i can't navigate to any webpages. I use WEP and have WM5. If I enter a wrong wep key it won't connect so i feel that i am actually connected to the network just my device isn't realizing it. Is there any manager like the cooked rom of 2003se where i could manually choose WLan as my option to connect to the internet. I have also tried turning off wep on my router and other settings like that. Changed in between connected to work or the internet. Any ideas?
I found the problem. for some reason it was trying to connect on my gprs proxt server. that would always deny the connection. I had to set up my GPRS as my work connection and a generic connection that connected to the internet and ONLY put this network connects to the internet. Also it only worked if i used the existing my work connection and didn't work if i created my own with the same settings..
All is now well in thw WM5 world.. no more resets!!! think this might be a bug though..
I just realized that this ONLY pertains to ATT GPRS settings because they are the only ones who need to set up a proxy server..
now that connections work with my wifi i have one problem and this occurs with GPRS also.. my connections seem to time out. I was trying to download about 50k of mail and after about 10 messages it says "Unable to connect to incoming mail server" I've been connected just fine.. then the connections fails.. i have to do it all over again..

pptp - staying connected problem

I'm having a bit of an issue with pptp on the Kaiser. The handset is provided by Vodafone so it's branded a v1615, I've not flashed it with anything yet.
I can create and establish a pptp connection via 3g to my server successfully, however as soon as I either go to messaging (setup for imap to the server's internal IP) or PIE to access OWA the pptp connection just drops.
Anyone any ideas?!
Bit of an update - in Messaging the network to use was wap which had an incorrect access point set. I changed it to work, set the access point to internet (I'm on Voda UK), username & password of web.
Then I created the pptp connection under VPN for this (the work) connection.
Now in messaging when I hit send/receive it dials the 3G connection, succeeds, then establishes the pptp connection successfully. And stays connected.
Only, still no mail - it reports back unable to retrieve new messages or contact server.
On the server, it shows there is a ras client and gives it's IP (obtained by dhcp).
I can't ping it (the kaiser) through the vpn.
I can't get imap to work through the vpn from the kaiser to my server.
I can't get RDP to work through the vpn
I can't get PIE to access OWA when addressing the internal IP of the server through the vpn.
I know these services work via this same pptp connection from another windows box. It's almost like it's not routing traffic down the tunnel. Vodafone don't seem to be blocking it as it is establishing a connection. Anyone any ideas??
This is more than frustrating. PPTP connection establishes fine, RRAS reports back an IP address for the logged on client.
I've tried using vxutil on the device (http://www.cam.com/vxutil_pers.html) - when the tunnel is reported as up, it is unable to pass any traffic through the vpn it seems, no tcp, udp or icmp. Nothing.
I have tried adding the server ip address under exceptions, also *.*, but no difference.
I ran Ethereal/Wireshark on the server, not one packet even reaches the server, this pptp connection is useless and somewhat of a let down.
I guess nobody else uses pptp at all? I would have thought I had a fairly standard setup with a W2k3 box nat'd behind a 3com router/firewall.
PPTP works fine on any other device apart from this..
Just so share my experisnce with VPN. I have configured PPTP using the WM6 VPN client and I am able to establish connection on my Kaiser(stock rom).
The connection works fine in PIE when I use it to access one of my servers via HTTP. In fact, I just need to point PIE to the URL of my server(internal IP. I have to set the IP in the hosts file in the registry) and it will automatically dial into my VPN.
For RDP, I am also able to login to my server but strangely the connection will automatically drop after 3 mins or so. I am also unable to get the RDP client to automatically use VPN. I have to manually establish the VPN connection myself.
You may want to try some other VPN clients and not the WM6 VPN client. I have read some threads in the past in this forum regarding other VPN clients that work on WM6.

WLAN ok, but no websites are shown.

That's why I've never had an Windows Mobile device before.
Symbian, iPhone, everthing works fine with my WLAN. WPA Key and go go go
My Kaiser has a WLAN connection but the IE wont' show any page. Why?
First thing is to isolate the problem. Are you able to access the internet via Actice Sync? When connected to the WLAN are you able to access any other services on the internet such as windows live to check your email or if you have HTC HOME the weather info?
Also check to make sure you are getting a proper IP address, Gateway, and DNS server from the router to your PPC. Task Manager is a good utility which lets you run the Ipconfig/all command. You can also use the PING command in Task Manager to see if you can ping anything on the internet.
If you are getting the proper TCP/IP settings trying accessing a site using its IP address instead of its Domain Name to islolate if the problem is with the DNS server settings in PPC.
If still no luck post the results from the above troubleshooting and we'll go from there.
Correct IP Address, check! I forgot to mention...
Thank's for your help, I'll check the steps in the evening at home.^^
I just can connect to my router's IP address and see the configuration page. My device has it's own static IP.
IE says "site cannot be displayed, because the connection has been interrupted".
Do I have to quit HSPDA and Bluetooth? I guess not.
Let me know if you can connect to this http://134.126.10.50/

No, same error.
Surfing via ActiveSync is no problem.
If you said that it's possible to connect to router but not outside of router, then do you use MAC Access Control and/or MAC Fillter Internet Firewall on your router?
Possibility MAC Filter Internet Firewall. Without MAC Access Control specified, it's not possible to connect to router.
Hopefully it helps.
Best regards,
TwoAce
I'm using a MAC Filter, but the MAC of my Kaiser has been written to the MAC list. I'm trying without the filter...
Previously I could connect to my home WLAN, but I could not perform any surfing until I came across a suggestion to goto Settings->Wireless LAN->Power Mode slide to Best Performance.. and viola.. I am good to go..
don't know if you have the same issue, but jus my 2 cents.. ohh n I was using Polaris aka Touch Cruise..
I have the same problem as [email protected] has - the root cause may or may not be the same however. Here is what I found in my case -
(i) Connecting to WLAN - no probems, works every time
(ii) While connected to WLAN, sending/receiving emails through my exchange server or browsing my company's intranet site - no problem
(iii) Surfing internet while connected through USB cable/active sync - no problem
(iv) Can't connect to any internet site while connected to WLAN
I found that when connected through USB Cable/active sync - the proxy server address seen when I go to Settings->Connections->Connections->Edit proxy server is the correct company proxy server address. The moment I connect to WLAN - this field becomes blank. Even if I edit and insert the correct address, it doesn't stick. The moment I disconnet from WLAN and go and check the proxy server address - again it shows the correct address. So the root cause of the problem seems to be that something is wiping out the correct proxy address while I am connected to the WLAN.
I remember seeing a thread somewhere discussing this vanishing proxy settings problem. I wasn't able to find it today but I intend looking again when I get an hour or so.
I agree with roomer11 about the power settings, i have two HTC tytn ii's and i had the same problem with both(one mine, one is my wife's)...i'm running wpa2-psk now but does it on wep too...
It work's.
I have deactivated the MAC filtering. I doesn't make any sense, because the MAC I've entered is the right one, but ok. Must be a Windows Mobile voodoo thing.

Pop3 mail via WLAN and GPRS

Hi,
I'm currently running L24 V4 and I experience an anoying problem in the internet connection using pop3 email (messaging). When I enable my WLAN it won't send/receive my email via this connection. Instead it opens a GRPS connection. This is not what I want. The second problem is that when I try to connect trough gprs it only works when I set the network connection in advanced server settings of "edit account setup" of my pop3 account to "Vodafone GPRS". Settings like "work" and "the internet" doesn't let me connect to grps at all. So doing this way it looks like I'm forcing the email connection to GPRS.
I have this problem only for email. Browsing the internet goes fine. If I have WLAN it goes trough wireless. If WLAN is not on it opens GPRS. For mail this doesn't work.
Any idea?
Cheers!
Martin
I have this same exact problem. Is this a known problem or does anyone have a fix? I'm using the official HTC WM6.1 rom btw.
Also, just to clarify, if I change the Network connection setting to 'The Internet' in the POP3 email settings, I can send/receive email over wifi but not via GPRS/3G. If I change the Network connection setting to 'MEdia Net' (US AT&T GPRS/3G connection), I can send/receive email via GPRS/3G, and it always uses GPRS/3G even if wifi is available. All other internet programs I use (Internet Explorer Mobile, Opera Mini, CorePlayer, HTC Home weather) connect over wifi when available instead of using GPRS/3G.

WLAN Problem Diamond

ok, first of all, i checked every single thread on this page hoping to get a solution for my problem.
HTC Diamond, D-Link DWL-900AP+ Access Point.
My Diamond can "see" the Access Point, but is unable to connect with it.
Authentification WPA-PSK
Encryption TKIP
Networkkey Manually inserted and 100% correct.
Hook set at IEEE802.1x
EAP Typ = Smartcard or security certificate (but it's greyed out)
Network Card connects to Internet
From Server given IP Adress (hook set) DHCP on Access Point enabled
MAC Filters disabled
I also played around with the available network tabs.
I have vodafone DE, vodafone internet, company network or ISP
The the slider of the energy saving modus ist set to best performance.
What the hell is going wrong????
I also owe a HTC Touch Elfin and have no problems to access my network/internet.
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated
thank you
try deleting your network saved setting from list, make sure network card connects to internet, not work, find access point, and enter your password again.
this works for me in similar situations.
works if you start fresh, and not trying to connect with the same settings. i dont know why but has saved my ass a few times.
Also, try changing the encryption from TKIP to AES and see if that works....
I have the same problem! It's something about DHCP. My Diamond connects to my home wifi onli if I set the IP (which belongs to my phone on access point) address in the properties of network adapter.
HI did you try to put the host address of a site?
write 64.233.167.99 instead of google.it in case you can see the page the problem is the dns not resolved and insert manually in your phone connection

Same here, it looks like a DHCP time-out or routing problem. I've set up a DHCP server with a small pool of adresses on the acces point itself and now my Diamond always connects correctly. Before that, my Diamond would state that i had entered a invalid security key.
diamond connects but i cannot visit any website
Hi,
I have a similar problem. My diamond gets an ip address from dhcp, connects to dwl-900ap+ but i am not able to open any website (I tried to open some web with url and with its ip address too) - tried opera and IE too. In opera i get a "could not locate remote server" error. (Looks like a DNS problem?) I am not even able to open the AP's configuration web with diamond. Every other wifi enabled equipment I tried (1 notebook with win vista, 1 with XP, 1 with debian linux, nokia n95 with symbian and e-ten m700 with win mobile 5) works without a single problem. I also tried to reset the AP and my diamond - without success.
I didn't change any setting on the AP except for setting up a WEP encryption (i know, i know, it's not a strong encryption ), the SSID and the AP's ip address. Everything else is default. My dhcp server is not the access point. DHCP runs on a similarly configured router with wifi AP (diamond connects without problem).
Any idea/solution? thanks
