For those of you who don't feel like reading 9 pages of posts, here's the rundown:
JockyW2001 did a lot of work, cooked the Prod ROM and pre-pro Rom.
He then pinpointed the NVRAM entry that disabled GPS on his Kaiser, and recommends that someone with a prod S730 test it. You should donate to him.
Dumdidum has a pre-prod S730 and did a whole lotta testing.
Good luck getting any of them to write a nice tutorial for us n00bs, though.

More testing to change the NVRAM setting. Failed to remain modified after soft reset (to get into the OS, out of tri-color bootloader mode).

My opinion is that there isn't security exactly, but an automatic rewrite taking place; as in, something saying "return NV values to this value," that, in itself, is a single value somewhere.

Well, I have no idea what the hell to do with this, or anything... but I'd be more than glad to help/test whatever.

Ok. I have a preproduction Phone with working GPS, but it is veeeeeeeeeery slow and is crashing all 10 minutes (no ****)
So I decided to give it a go, and I've updated the ROM here.
It's a Test only, not for sale.
1. Thing: It's very fast now. But I think your productive devices were fast before
2. Thing: COM4 doesnt respond yet.
I'm happy now because I can finally use the device, and I'm trying to implement the GPS back. I'm sure that this has to work because I have a working GPS antenna in the device.
Btw. it's english after flashing, Languages included are:

Where are you located? Is 3G working on 850/1900/2100 with this rom?

I'm located in Switzerland and have the 3G-Logo. But here the coverage is poor, but this afternoon I will go to our capital and then I can tell you if 3G is fully working..

The best result will be if you obtain the same behavior as pro model - only one or two satellites without fix = working GPS probably not depends on antenna, only on sw (hope).

You should have flashed this new ROM in parts. First OS and then radio. It would have been very interesting to see if the radio is sufficient to get GPS going. Anyways you will be a good tester when it comes to flashing my cooked pre-prod OS
I have just finished cooking the pre-production OS, please download "Wings-cooked-OS-pre-prod.zip" from XDA FTP and flash OS.nbh with the attched RUU Updater. Put OS.nbh in the same directory as the unpacked RUU Updater files.
EDIT:
On the XDA ftp site I just posted the file "Wings-cooked-OS-prod.zip" in /Smartphone/Wings/ROM (Production model)/
I also cooked the pre-prod OS which is file "Wings-cooked-OS-pre-prod.zip" in /Smartphone/Wings/ROM (Pre-production model)/
I also attached the Wings ROM Updater tool which was extracted from the official ROM.
Cooked pre-prod and prod OS ROMS are finished, see my previous post.
Have fun! perhaps the best idea is that Dumdidum tries first.

Great work Jockyw! Maybe the result of your work is adept for new thread aka Try the prepro ROM on your s730 to check if GPS works.
So guys, who will be the first, who will check if pro model with prepro ROM has GPS? Then we can make the mix of both ROMs

I just flashed the prod OS ROM on my Kaiser and it works fine
The only problem is the keyboard mapping
I will now flash the pre-prod and let you know if it that also works. Anyone with a HardSPL can then try it on a real WINGS
PS: Of course I will test GPS with both ROMs
I have interesting news
I'm running GPSTest.exe inside the prod Wings OS on my Kaiser and I have a fix. This means that if the software is crippled then it must be done in the radio part. That fits exactly with Dumdidum's experience after he flashed the full RUU.
I will now flash the Wings radio and should then no longer have a GPS fix. And then I will post a link to a Kaiser radio which will hopefully give you the long awaited GPS

Of cause there would be no official WM2005 for magician.
HTC would better spend money on releasing new devices with 2005 onboard then upgrading old ones. For example ther is still no official english 2003SE for Himalaya devices.
And even more. I think that "leaked WM2005 ROM for Magician", as written here - http://www.msmobiles.com/news.php/3695.html, does not exist.

As far as I remember there were 3 ROMs:
Chinese 2.20 taken from some FTP in a form of SD-card dump, 2.02.t1 was taken from some other device, I don't remember how it appeared as next day 2.06 version was found on FTP server. It is unknown who have uploaded it, but the operator name in update was "O2". Later I tried to translate chinese 2.20 ROM to english but stopped after destroyed screen on my device.

It is impossible to modify ROM of one device type to work on other, due to different hardware, memory addressing, IRQs, etc. Himalaya would understand ROMs that were designed only for it. It would not boot with Magician or BA ROM.

There would be no 2005 update for Jam. And even if HTC would have such update I don't think that resellers like Imate would publish it on their websites. There should be some hardware modifications in the phone to fully utilize WM2005. For example the built-in storage should be large (64Mb or more), 2 more softkey buttons, 1 button for calling start menu. And I think that 400Mhz and 64Mb RAM are not enough.

Since "alpha" released on himalaya, could you just give more effort on tracking the ram and relocate it, and getting back the whole lost memory such the Extended_Rom?
You are the last hope for such beautiful device to fix the rom and let it work properly..Coz this is the last rom ever we would be seeing

Imate techsupport said that it probably would not include WMP10. Anyway lets wait for it to appear and I'll try to make custom ROM like did with 1.33

O2 or Imate or other resellers don't make ROMs. ROMs are produced by HTC+MS and then sent for customizations. Probably there was a test version sent to O2 that leaked.

Normally the ROM is released in both English and other languages. The only 2.20 ROM for Himalaya we were able to find was Chinese version, so we had to translate it ourselves. There should exist English version somewhere in HTC but it was never released to public.

This PDA2K EVDO ROM contains WMP10. I don't own such a device and never tried to flush this ROM, but according to files inside it definitely has WMP10.

I cannot. But you can use freeware HTTP proxies or different file-by-email services to get the files.

Good find! Pretty cool. I wonder what the deal with the ROM is? The radio version is newer than the other three known (bottom of wiki). Maybe a chef can extract and repackage radio 1.33.707.1?

He probably is just recommending that you do it, not a requirement. dopodasia.com is a HTC's site.

I just updated my phone a few minutes ago and it seems to be working fine.
I also had to install my keyboard layout.
Connection Manager covers the whole world.
New programs are JBlend + Voice Commander.
Huge improvements in using the camera: It is not sluggish anymore when I move it around.
The same for video recording.
Flicking trough pictures is like a dream.
So they have definitely done something to improve graphics.
Fonts are changed. I'm not sure if i like them.

you can just use the bypass in jocky's post to flash the rom. no need flash HardSPL.
The build in eT9 still not support chinese...
I think the rom is usefull for cookers
The XIP space is big enough for cook WM6.1
The phone is still sluggish, but that is not due to graphics but to the OS i guess.
Like, after you have ended a call and you want to go directly to the desktop but have to wait for the phone to close the call screen.
I have fiddled around with it for an hour now and must say I think this phone is now what it was supposed to be from the beginning.

Hi twirly,
Has the amount of free program memory increased or have you noticed any improvements to memory related problems (if you experienced them)?
I flashed my phone... not so much difference with the earlier HTC ROM (version 1.31....). After cold reboot 17MB of free memory and still all the well-known problem of slow graphics.
In my opinion the cooked WM6.1 ROM (see other post) works faster.
I've just taken the plunge on Orange UK, I'll see how much it pisses me off tomorrow (come on can't be as bad as the release ROM) I'm hoping at least the camera is better else it N82 here I come
now I've Hard SPL'd (poo the pants moment) the phone I may even WM6.1 it....
Memory issues are not solved.
Is clear type enabled in this ROM?
Text is very bad.
@Surfboomerang: That is wierd with your graphics issues as graphics works flawlessy on my phone.
I tried with a movie file as well and it played perfectly.
The camera works great. When you take a photo you do not have to wait 2-3 seconds before the photo is taken.
The same with using the video cam.
Overall it is a huge improvment for me compared with the original ROM that came with the phone.
I have tested and studied this rom for some hours now.
There are some new DLL files / Drivers added that is not exsisting in the previous released rom.
But I cant notice any difference in performance..
I hate the font! Seems like a wiered upgrade to me, the Radio included is actually a downgrade..
I had Radio: 25.74.40.02H_1.64.08.21
This Rom has: 25.62.30.03H_1.58.17.02
I fint it hard to beleve that this is a HTC released update..

Thanks for the info sir.
So far I'm impressed in an unnoticeable fashion. What I mean is that it works and I'm not getting the frustrated feeling that the shipped ROM gave me.
When I press Start the delay is minimal, ditto for the camera (I also like the post picture option icons, delete send etc)
I shall carry on playing and see if IE is any better.....
To Alcaline: any improvements to expect on your build?

as always, your roms are great, but why not the newest blackstone build, ive heard that it should have the new internet explorer in it? this is a feature i would like in your rom more than anything else! and a question! would the panel lockup bug be fixed? other than that, the 2.2 version is almost perfect! tried your rom (WWE). An old bug is back again on it. I can't make a data connection to my provider A1/Vodafone with this rom. Maybe you can fix this again.

little feedback
when installing programs that have multi langugage, for example aeb plus, default language selected is simplified chinese
UC is working but not like on 2.2, I don't know why but I got it 3 times hard reseted and all 3 times UC stopped at half way, I haven't changed any of files since 2.2 so I know that they are working
other than that rom is working fast
I will play more with it so if I find something more I will report it

I used the 0409 locale from the older build, plus it needs some editing in dll and exe.
I know there are some language issues in this rom, and some bugs has come back. Mainly because I have moved to a better base from x1, and that some of the fixes I used on the HD base is not working here.
But my main concernright now is locating/removing/editing some of the simplified chinese settings.
This rom is cooked diffrently then the rest, and im still working on optimizing the kitchen so that making of multilanguage roms can be done easier.

First, thank you!
Second, Bug? After flshing WM 6.5 ROM V44, restart, while setup, my HD(Blackstone) found dead twice! And I had to "reset" from the back twice manually!
Don't know why!

This is not not the latest version its an old Core with a new Build and I fail to see the point in flashing it when the author of this thread obviously isnt the author of the ROM therefore you can bet there wont be any fixes etc.

I was running v40 the battery seems better on v40 than on v44 build 21920
the only bug I have found so far is in the menu for weather, when I try to add and country and enter the name the enter key will not not on the keyboard
as for flashing this version I had no trouble at all even with the memory card left in by mistake.
going to try the other version later.
The one thing I cant seem to sort out is after a soft reset I get a message on the screen about running.

but fantastic rom I have to say for me its the best Iv used so far. every thing seems to work? not having to add cabs and fix this and that, but will see how it does over a few days.
still think the battery seem to drain faster on this version than on v40. we will see.

the office suite is all over xdadev ready for download just use the search function at the top right before asking for things that can easy be found with a bit of thought.
the ROM makers have enuff to do
