S730-Notebook with Vista-No internet - HTC Wings

I have a notebook, with MS Vista, and with mobile internet (pcmcia card). A tried to connect internet via s730 through mobile device center, but i can't.
I tried with WI-FI: connect to my notebook (ad hoc connection) but i can't use internet.
I tried it with free hotspot and it works.
I don't understand. What can i do?

How are you trying to get online?
You want the s730 do connect to your data network and share that? Or do you want to dial it into the internet (someone got that working on here) or are you connected through your notebook already and want to share that to your s730?

I don't know, that was BT connection.
Next question: Mobile Device center why not seeing my device, when i connect to desktop with wi-fi?

I've never been able to get this to work, I don't even know if you can or not.

I am confused.
Do you want your s730 to get on the Internet by connecting to your laptop? Can you just use a usb cable then you can use internet connection through laptop onto phone.

If I understand you correctly your laptop is what is online and you want it to pass the connection onto your phone through the wifi?
If thats the case that you just need to enable ICS on your laptop. It will be under your menu settings, I havnt messed around with vista's network settings so I cannot tell you quite what it looks like. Possibly a check box or a protocol to install. But once you install Internet Connection Sharing your computer should pass the connection out.

I have this working on my machine with my 730. Often you might need to repair the network connection to your phone from the network connection control panel as it sometimes loses it's IP address.
I also found that I needed to do some work in OneCare which I use as an AntiVirus and Firewall as this was blocking access to the Mobile Device Center.
hope this helps

Comm Manager Internet Sharing instead of Wireless Modem?

I have an AT&T Tilt running its original ROM. Is there a way to change the Comm Manager to have a shortcut to Internet Sharing instead of Wireless Modem? I replaced the Comm Manager with a nice touch style one, but it still shows Wireless Modem, so I assume there is somewhere in the registry which tells Windows which one to use by default for this type of task. Does anyone know how to change it?
Bump...It's been awhile since this question was asked and I'm looking for the same thing. Anyone have any ideas yet?
Has anyone found a way?
where is Internet Sharing?
I'd like to give ICS a try instead of using wireless modem.
I have the original ROM. Where should I find Internet Connection Sharing?
I've looked in Start > Programs, and it's not there. If it is not on my phone, can I add it?
Thanks, Bren

If its not there, its hidden in your My Device/Windows directory. Its there, you just gotta look. On mine its called Internet Sharing. You can then create a shortcut to it and place it in your programs or start menu.

download both AdvancedConfig_v1.1.CAB and AdvancedConfig_v1.0.CAB from http://xda.scan4.us/index.php?sort=date&order=desc&path=Cabs/ and change it from there
Internet Connection Sharing
Thanks for your responses to my post. I did find the app in my Windows folder. It's called IntShrUI.exe. I pasted a shortcut of it into my Start Menu > Programs folder. I haven't been able to figure out how to configure my PC to make it work.
I've been researching in the forums how to configure a PC to use the internet connection of my phone. My PC doesn't have Bluetooth, so I would like to use the USB connection. Most of the postings are how to configure for Bluetooth.
If you know where to find a good explanation, please post the link for me. I'm running Windows XP Pro. I want to use the phone as a back up connection if my cable connection goes down.
I have been successful using my phone with AT&T connection manager on my computer, but I have a problem with that. I have Virtual PC installed on my computer, and the network configuration of Virtual PC doesn't recognize the AT&T Connection Manager as a network card, so my VPC doesn't have access to the internet through my phone.
I'm hoping that with Internet Connection Sharing, the network adapter on my PC will still be used, and access the Internet through the gateway on my phone.
Thanks, Bren

There are 2 ways to get it working over USB. Either get the USB modem drivers working, (Which I have never been able to do) or use windows dial up networking. I have connected my Tilt to the AT&T 3G data network with the Windows xp Professional DUN interface. When I get home I'll copy my DUN settings and post them here. Its the same settings I used to use to teather my Motorola V551 for data. I accidentally clicked on DUN a few weeks ago while the Tilt was connected and it worked with the same settings.
Of course, I do have a USB Bluetooth dongle, and getting ICS working is easiest with BT. All you have to do for that is set up a pairing between the 2 devices, and create a BT Personal Area Network.

I got it working
Thanks, Jay.
I pieced together information I found about ICS, and I got it working. It works with my Virtual PC because Windows XP puts a Network Connection in the Network Connections folder that I can use to create a Virtual Network in the VPC configurations.
When my phone is connected to my computer via USB, and I open Internet Connection Sharing app on the phone, and then connect to the phone's data network, the Network Connection is automatically created in XP.
I'm not sure what was missing, but when I tried this earlier on my laptop, it didn't successfully automatically install the Generic RDNIS driver that my desktop did successfully install. I'm going to try it again on my laptop. On my laptop, I do have bluetooth, and I will try to get that working instead of USB.
I'm wondering, is there any advantage to using AT&Ts Communication Manager instead of Internet Connection Sharing?
Thanks again for your response.

I would think that the advantage is that they then know for a fact you are teathering, and can be exxxxtra sure you are being "properly billed" on an "appropriate" data plan that probably costs at least $60/mo

Ok, I found the Cingular / AT&T DUN settings on my computer.
Username: [email protected]
Password: CINGULAR1 (This is case sensitive!!!)
Number to Dial: *99***3#
I also always max out the port speed in the modem configuration so the port doesn't restrict a nice fast HSDPA connection.
This will work for Bluetooth or USB modem connections.

Using PC's internet on PPC

Hi,
I have Windows Vista and use Windows Mobile Device Center to connect to my TyTN II using USB. Can I use my PC's internet via USB on my PPC?
I was also thinking of turning my PC into WiFi access point so that my Kaiser could connect to it using Wifi
Any ideas
Thanks
As long as you are connected through activesync (sorry WMDC) you can use your PC's internet on your phone. As for your second question you should just get a wireless router if you want wi fi for your kaiser.
Thanks for the quick response.

Hmmmm... I have been using Wifi on Kaiser without a problem. I was just thinking if I could use my Laptop as access point so that my Kaiser could connect to it over wireless connection... Or any other idea for internet connection sharing (of PC for PPC).
Yasir
anyone? ...
You want to keep your laptop on to use it as a Wifi AP for your kaiser?? Might as well use your laptop already and not ruin your eyes.
Haha... yeah right... actually I was a bit unclear in my statment.. let me try to put it a little differently..
laptop uses internet via LAN cable... I want to share that internet with Kaiser over Wireless ... is it possible... (now that's more of a PC related question that Kaiser, so I have a Kaiser related question too)..
I can't use internet via WMDC on Vista ... what could be the possible reason?

Yes, but for that you need to have your laptop powered on... his point was that if your laptop is on you might as well use the net on it rather than on the obviously much less comfortable phone.
I never tried it, but could be possible by making a ad-hoc wireless network on your laptop, and making your laptop a gateway.
There are settings hidden away that need ticking for sharing the internet connection of the PC, although I thought they defaulted to "on". I'm not sure, I haven't touched a vista machine in months!
Ad-hoc wifi would be the way to go, but good luck getting it working; it's a royal pain in the arse half the time, and for the rest it works like magic. Depends on the devices.
If you're browsing on your phone I hope you've got a copy of Opera Mini; using wifi my phone can nearly outpace my PC at browsing the net.

Open wmdc
choose mobile device settings >> Connection settings
Set: " this computer is connected to" to either "automatic" or "the internet"
That should do it.
Hi...
It's already set to "automatic" and changing to "internet" didn't work either..
thanks for the suggestion on wifi adhoc..i'll try to find more about it...
Hi,
I was wondering if it is posible to share the Pcs internet with the Kaiser with a Bluetooth set up?

Activesync and WIFIrouter! Need solutions

Hi folks, just got my diamond almost a week ago and I already filled it up with applications, absolutely love it's wide area of functions. I came across a great idea that i could use at work: to connect the phone through activesync(that will give me internet on the phone from the computer) and then to use wifirouter app to further share this internet connection. But I couldn't get this working, because wifirouter accesses my gsm/3g internet on the phone instead of the internet obtained from the computer through activesync. Anyone got an idea how to get this working?
when u connect your phone with usb u can choose : shared internet connection. maybe then it will works dnoo
I don't think you understood, I need internet forwarding from pc to phone firstly, which I managed to do already with activesync, but I also want wifirouter application to recognize the internet being sent from the pc through activesync and not connect to edge/3g.
I think u need to setup your wifi router again this time dont set it to gprs/3g select usb to wifi. That shld work it
The wifirouter application doesnt give me any options, it just initializes and thats it.
can anyone help?
Using the USB to Wifi mode should work in this instance. That is if you're using one of the paid versions as I'm not sure if the free version supported this.

Share internet through USB

How can i share my internet from my PC through the USB cable, so to get connected on my kaiser? Any ideas?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...-up, Wi-Fi, using as modems, peer-to-peer etc.
if you mean getting internet on your computer by using the pda as modem
if you mean getting your computers internet on your pda then
when you're connected to activesync you got the same network
as the pc on your pda
if it don't work one of 2 things can be the cause
your pc block the connection because of the way you set your
pc up
or
you havent gon to
settings->connection-connection->advanced-select network
and picked [my homenetwork] or what it's called in your rom
in the dropdownbox
but use [my isp] or what it's called in your rom
as the only network connection

I'm not sure if this is correct as don't use skype but am guessin it will need a IP address to which if you are sharing the internet via USB then it wont have. "in the a typical sense"
Think Skyfire is the same principle.

You can make wifi hotspot (if you have wifi) from your pc by Connectify.
oh, i have to make a wifi access point in my laptop then coonect via phone the internet shares..?
or u talking about a option in the phone which named wifi hotspot .??
I forget the steps in Windows XP, but for Windows 7 go to the
-Network and Sharing Center
-Set up a new connection or network
-Set up a wireless adhoc (computer to computer) network
and follow the steps to setting up the connection. Then, at the last step, enable internet sharing. It'll let other computers, or, well, anything that can access a wireless network connect to your PC. Secure it with a password if you want to be safe.
Notes: Some devices will not be able to connect. There may be a software bug or they've not been designed to work with adhoc networks. I'm not sure if the laptop can connect to an alternative wireless network while it's hosting an adhoc network. If you want to share internet, you may need to be plugged directly in with an Ethernet cable.
Yeah my internet connection is from my lan..
but my phone don't detect my network which created from laptop, what's the problem..?
How is this is Nexus one Q&A? This is not even android related lol

You're probably creating it using the way described above, ad-hoc network setup. Android by default doesn't recognize ad-hoc networks. Some custom ROMs solve this issue, but stock setup won't allow you to see the ad-hoc network. Use Connectify.
Thank u very much but unfortunately this only works in 7, i have vista now....

Sorry, I've been using CyanMod for too long I can never remember if it's supported by default or not.
To the OP, sorry if I've caused any inconveniences.
i'm using connectify now, but still my phone can't find the network, waht should i do??????
Did you set your network to Infrastructure? Also make the SSID visible, do not hide it.
i'm using v2 & i can't see such setting that u said, where can i find them to change..?
IF you have a windows 7 PC, i advise you to use conectify or virtual rooter. You can also follow the instructions in the following link - http://www.technospot.net/blogs/how-to-enable-windows-7-virtual-wifi/ - it will enable in your windows 7 pc a virtual ap). Hope it helps you
