Tilt vs Kaiser/Tytn II - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I searched the forum a bit before asking...and didnt find my answer.
Why is the HTC TILT ~200 cheeper than the HTC Kaiser. Is it only the front mounted CAM?
I`m planning to buy one or the other. As far as i read you can unlock both.
I apreciate any replies, thanks

The Tilt is relatively the same price if you don't get it with a service contract, last I remember.

tilt @ newegg 509$
tytn II/kaiser 700-800

they are the same thing, except for a few small differences:
1- front camera, if ur not going to be doing video calling, not really important
2- software, however this is easily changed by flashing one of many roms on here
3- a few cosmetic changes, in my opinion, the tytn II looks a little better (nicer keyboard)
4- the tytn II will come factory unlocked, while the tilt will be locked to att. I unlocked my tilt (using it on tmobile) in 5 mins with att over the phone (my wife is an att customer) otherwise u can unlock it online in a few mins for around 20 dollars. they are working on a free unlock here too btw
is it worth 200 dollars more (or 500 if u sign a contract with atnt)? definitely not

i want to use it in Romania... i`ll unlock it.. and shouldnt have any issues (also ROM change), right?
thanks for the last reply

Nah, I changed the ROM on mine the day I got it, no problem.

Is Tytn II comes w/ leather case and wired headset? My tilt doesn't have those w/ the box

Should I buy the tilt or the kaiser?

is paying the extra few hundred for the full unlocked HTC kaiser worth it?
or should I go TILT? am I correct to think there are no software differences with loading the HTC rom onto the TILT? or does the AT&T software restrictions still play an active roll in not allowing us to install what ever we please?
Has TILT adopters found themselves with more problems than they antisipated? has Kaiser adopters wished they would have saved the
money?

Here is your answer! Link: Should I buy a Tilt or a Kaiser?
no cam on the phone...
the homescreen on the tilt is lame... super lame...
att has choped away a lot of good stuf.... not sure the price difference is....
im having trouble installing anything that at&t hasnt sold me. your prob more capable than i am, but... thats my experience
To the original poster's credit, the forums' search functionality is kinda crap, but it is the sort of thing that should be easy to find just by browsing the right sections.
IMO, there's not much reason to get the TyTn II instead of the Tilt thanks to HardSPL. The front camera just isn't worth $400.
As to Tilt vs. Kaiser - Tilt IS a Kaiser...
Tilt - No front camera. Same back 3MP camera.
With a bit of reading this forum and a few hours/days. there's no other differences.
If you're an AT&T customer in the US, the front camera is useless anyway.
Furthermore, you can put whatever ROM/software you want on the device (courtesy of our fine colleagues here).
I did the math:
Tilt: $199.00 (with new 2-year contract)
TyTN II: $800.00
It was a no-brainer for me! (YMMV)

Tilt or Kaiser

Just curious who bought the ATT Tilt and who went for the more expensive HTC Kaiser and why..
(Yeah I wasn't sure to call it the Kaiser or TyTN 2 lol)
Tilt. $150 vs $600 (MOL).
Tilt 225 w/ 50 bucks back.
FYI: not to get picky....
it's Tilt or TyTN II
they are both considered a Kaiser
I got the tilt for the reason of cheaper
Tilt - got it for $50 after MIR. That was a clear winner for me....
Waited and waited and actually saw the Black Friday Ad and called up a buddy I worked with there. Plus I generally like to stay specific to AT&T equipment for whatever reason...
Tilt bc of the price ($150). Obv I would like to have the tytn 2 for the front facing camera, but its not worth $450 more.
Is the front cam the ONLY difference between the two?
Tilt for 149.99 after rebate.

Thanks to this forum and the ROM and app's you can find here, that the pretty much main difference.
lol it looks like people prefer to save a couple hundred than having a front video camera
damn...comming from the uk.. i neva actually realised the tilt didnt have a front facing camera!!

Where's the Tilt made and what's the body code (KAIS***)?
Other differences are:
- the video front camera
- the colour scheme
- the package contents
- Warranty from AT&T versus HTC
- I'm not sure if the batteries are different (Samsung vs Dyna)

I actually like the front buttons on the TyTN 2 much better than the all chrome look on the Tilt
It was pretty easy for me. The only differences are
1. The lack of a front facing camera.
Even if you had it, you can't use it with AT&T anyways
2. The addition of lots of dumb bloatware.
Takes 20 minutes to remove, or 10 to reflash with OEM image.
3. Slightly differently colored case.
Who cares?
It wasn't nearly enough to me to consider for 1 minute paying an extra 450 or so for the Kaiser. If you have the money, and you are a perfectionist, go for the Kaiser.
the tilt is a kaiser. i think you mean TyTN II. Which is also a kaiser

nah, i'm just trying to correct ppl now so that future confusion happens less
In the US with AT&T, there is really no reason not to go with the Tilt:
you can't use the front camera anyway;
if you're a good customer, they'll happily provide an unlock code; and
compared to an imported TyTN II, they're a total bargain
People complain about "all the bloat." I can tell you that with a minimal amount of work, the bloat can be removed -- keeping the stock ROM -- and having an extremely stable and high-performing device.
I'm sure it will get better with the next batch of cooked roms, too...

Ready for my Kaiser ! woot !

hey friends, After doing a long research on PDA WM phones, I arrived to the conclusion that Kaiser is the way to go!!! (WOOT)
Now I just have a couple of questions, Where can I get a good price for a Kaiser ? ( any link appreciated ), is getting an AT&T tilt unlocked the same as getting the real kaiser ? ( a 8925 of course ) what do do what to do !!??
Almost all places that I have seen where they have the HTC kaiser 120 costs around 750-800us$ and the tilt 8925 is around 500us$ is there much of a difference ? can I get the tilt to work just like the REAL kaiser, upgrading roms ? will the supposedly new rom with the new video drivers will work on the tilt !!!! ( insert dramatic music )
Please help me ( <-- lame phrase )
Please help me pimp my .... mobile device ?
Thank you all !

My wife's got a tilt and I have a kaiser. No real difference except for the obvious. But the rom change on the tilt is needed immediately att software is lame! I put duttys 7.0 on my wifes and it's faster then my kaiser with stock rom.
HereĀ“s a good place to start.....

I guess, and I was pissed when I got my Tilt. But then realized it's probably not worth $200-300 for a VGA camera, that I can't even use on my network
So sticking with the Tilt, since I want to go WM7 on a new device when it rolls out
Go to newegg.com and search for the tilt. Print that off and take it to your local AT&T store, they will honor newegg's price. Right now it's $175, but my girlfriend and I got ours for $150 when it was that price. For instance if newegg has it for $150, att will sell it to you for $250 with a $100 mail in rebate. Can't beat that, only thing is you have to have unlimited data until the rebate comes, which is 6-8 weeks.

Hi:
I see most of your questions have been addressed.
I wanted to mention, that if you really want to "pimp you phone", here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=336013&goto=newpost) is a good place to start getting ideas. That is a post where people post their Today screens. Most people will include info on what programs etc. they used to make it look a certain way. It's a great thread to get an idea of the endless possibilities you have when it comes to the appearance of this phone.
Also, as far as making the most of your phone, read, read, read
That's what I did, I have read HUNDREDS of posts here, and learned so much.
I have only had my Tilt for about a month, but if you saw it now, you wouldn't even believe it is the same phone ATT sent me
Not to mention that I have added so many amazing programs, apps etc. that I learned about here, that my phone can do just about anything now

choice problem

gents i`ve got a problem,
luxury problem, until today i had the tytn II but my contract with my phone provider is comming to an end.
and i got a call from them with a proposal for a new contract.
so mow my problem,
they offert me a one year contract with the HTC diamond.
for the same amount i have to pay today but now also with unlimited internet access.

how much are the charging for the phone?
nothing, i do not have to pay anything for the phone.
Do the maths....
if you feel the saving from going Sim free is worth it then take that option.
If you could want the diamond... or could make a profit selling the diamond take that one.
NO MicroSD slot on the diamond .... BIG minus

wow...and what does the pro do that the tilt doesn't do?
it has the same options that the tynt II also has with a slide keyboard.
only this one has a better processor ect.
regarding the option, yes i could wait but my contract will be finished at the 28th of august.
and i do not know when the touch pro will come out here in the Netherlands.

I was more or less mocking the statement that a slightly better processor and .2 megapixels in the pro makes the tilt a "sorry excuse for a pocket pc". even if it has drivers, it still wouldn't makes it god in comparison...

TyTN II Replacements?

what's the best, cheapest replacement for the TyTN II?
-don't need GPS
-don't need wi-fi
-don't need good camera
-**DO NOT NEED pull out keyboard.
so far the pharos is looking good, any suggestions? (i plan to unlock so i can use with att)
(broke my tilt, and cant afford a replacement of $400)
thanks!!

That's what i was thinking as well. If you don't need a Pocket PC, then just go for a Smartphone which is usually cheaper.
Btw, what part of the Tilt broke?
i just want a big screen with touch capabilities, and simple is the word here..just really sick of sliders and want a candybar that doesnt look like a blackberry/motorola Q/etc
-btw my tilt wont charge the battery after i fixed the redlight issue.. tried with different batteries and chargers
also is the elf just the HTC touch, but only able to be used with ATT (as the touch cannot i think)? would the majority of ROMS from the Touch work on elf? sorry for so many questions !
Elf = Touch
Elfin = Touch Enhanced

Unless you bought the Tilt from the first day it was out, you should still have warranty on it so have you tried calling them at 1800-801-1101 and asking for a replacement?
already did, but the sticker on the back is pink from when i tried to clean the metal prongs. att said this was "water damage" and said they couldnt replace it.

Get an iphone
haha, actually that'd be my overall choice over even the tilt, but i cant afford the $700 over two years that i need to pay in internet usage. i can honestly say i've never had the need or want to ever use the internet away from my laptop.
Why not have a shop repair the Tilt?

I use the internet often while on the move. Sometimes it's just for receiving or sending emails. I guess you don't often travel on public transport or you'd find mobile internet tremendously valuable in terms of journey planning.
As far as your Tilt is concerned, even if you cant get it covered under the warranty, there's still a good chance a phone repair shop or HTCs repair centre could resurect it for you at a moderate cost and often they only charge a small fee to find out an estimated cost of repair. In short, not much to lose but potentially much (in savings) to gain.
Why dont you buy a wizard you can pick them up pretty cheap and they will do almost everything the tilt can do.

hi.
someone might call me a heretic, but if You look for something really cheap and if it's got to be fairly simple, then nokia N70 is the nice choice if You can live w/o winmo and touchscreen.
pros:
price, candybar, camera (nice pictures and video far better from kaiser), loads of apps/games (believe me or not, but it can emulate gba almost perfectly on it's 200 mhz cpu), fm radio, price?
cons:
no touchscreen, no wm (hm... I wonder if that's something bad...)
otherwise I would say: wizard or hermes
br
bro
HTC Touch HD - largest touchscreen HTC do.

It does however have a 5MP camera fitted to it...
Another option is the iphone3g
id rather not have a qwerty keyboard, pointless if you have touchscreen to me. i can upgrade in march/april i think, so if i cant fix my tilt i'll just part it for $50-80, sell my n93 for $125, and use that to buy a phone that'll last me until then.. either a n73, elf 3452, sony k790... i have no idea. everything would be much better if my tilt could be fixed!!

I wasnt aware the new Touch HD had a qwerty keyboard or in fact any keyboard, will have to double check.
