HOW TOO KEEP Windows Media Player Working When Device is Turned Off - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

I want to be able to turn off my device so that the buttons are locked but have the music keep playing while off so that the screen doesn't drain the battery.
My Hermes WM6 will play music with the device off. It has the followings settings.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\ Preferences]
"UnattendedPlayback"=dword:1
"FastCacheReserve"=dword:8388608 (and also 800000)
"LocalCacheReserve"=dword:8388608 (and also 800000)
I've tried these settings on both the Kaiser and BA. They don't seem to work. I've heard that HTC Audio Manager solves this problem, but I don't like it.
Any Ideas on registry settings?
Thanks in advance.

Did you try CorePlayer? I'm streaming Alternative right now over 3G to my bluetooth DC800 in standby mode. (could be the ROM too though).

Sleuth:
Playing music with Coreplayer also turns off when device is turned off. There's a registry setting somewhere but I don't know where it is.
Thanks.

I'm having the same issue. have not had this before on dutty's roms, but the new one i just flashed from Alex does it (not that its his fault, just diffrent settings.)
anyone know?

Works great for me .... I minimize it with QuickMenu or similar and press the off key on the device. WM + BT A2DP keep working. I have done no changes to the registry...

I have key 6 binded to Screen Off. So my buttons are still working, but the screen is off.

My MDA Vario III does this out of the box.
Surur

Looks like its ROM based. I've done nothing special to my ROM in this regard. Have you tried to flash a WM6.1 ROM? the improved bluetooth stack is a piece of wonder on WM6.1...

Inside the Options on Windows Media Player, look for the tab for Buttons. Right at the bottom of the list is Toggle Screen. If you assign this to the action button (or whatever) then press this during playback, the screen will turn off and the phone will ONLY respond to the direction pad to change volume or track.
I know it's not quite switched off, but to all intents and purposes it is but with music controls still enabled.
Just a thought!

I'm running Alex's latest WM6 v5 build based off of AT&T 1.61, and Windows Media player keeps playing when I press the power button on my Tilt. I have not changed any registry settings related to Windows Media Player.

It is definitively ROM related. Some do, some don't, some work with WMP and some work only with Coreplayer. I am currently using Sluth's 3.0 (WM6.1 based) and it works like a charm

I may have to try a 6.1 ROM. I want to fix this problem with the ROM I'm using because I just spent a lot of time getting everything else working perfectly.
There's got to be a registry setting for this. I've used several 6.0 ROMs which allowed the music to keep playing and some which didn't.
Thanks for all your input.

I did finally go to a 6.1 ROM. WMP still stops when the device is turned off. However, the HTC Audio Manager keeps playing when the device is turned off. That's good enough for now. I just wish someone would find the registry setting which allows WMP to keep working when turned off.

windows media and audio manager are both playing in suspended mode.
I remember a while back, in the Hermes forum, WM5 did not play in in suspended mode, but once it get upgraded to VM6, it does now. So it must be ROM dependent.
here is the only thing i added.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences]
"UnattendedPlayback"=dword:0x00000001

The dword value is already 1. I am running WM6.1
Thanks for responding anyway.

Just to add to this, it's is a ROM thing. My Vario II could turn off fine with music on using the HTC Audio player (using a WM6 ROM). So I was suprised that my new Vario III could not continue playing. It's such a silly fault! But, hooray for the fixers!

I use s2u2. after suspended mode music turns off. then turn it back on and s2u2 will lock the buttons and music turns on. set s2u2 to turn off screen in 30 sec and the music will keep on playing.

i just wanted to remind u guys that streaming over the internet and playing from the memory card are different.. just to clear up on the confusion:
Usally with the kaiser, the streaming media plays in suspended mode, and the music from storage card stops in suspended mode

oh sorry I mean turn off backlight in 30 sec.

I use the following setting on the Task Manager.
/Button/ End program by tapping and holding "X"
In that that wat the screen shuts down but the application keeps running.
Hope that does not sound too simple and corny.
PS. I am using Navdi Task Manager 2_0_31261_1

Buggy damned Tilt official 6.1...

I've flashed my 8925 twice and hard reset it once, I've tried with and without having allowed the ATT customizations, and still there's a bunch of stupid little crap that is driving me nuts. Please note: these bugs are with no additional software installed.
Can't keep the backlight from timing out. I've always disliked the default of having the screen auto dim: if the screen is on I'm probably *looking* at it, otherwise I'd have turned it off... I've tried everything, setting no backlight time out, leaving it checked but matched to the screen shutoff, it shows the right thing in the control panel and stays on after I leave that screen, but usually within minutes or especially after I've used the phone it'll start dimming at 10 seconds again--even though turn off backlight is still unchecked in the backlight control panel.
Missed calls / call log badly broken: I'll get the missed call notification but when I try to see the caller it shows the log as empty, and when I go into the log manually from the phone app it also shows empty--doesn't even have my outgoing calls.
Voicemail notification got stuck on. I can probably call ATT and have them fix this on their end in minutes but it's bloody annoying that my phone's been notifying me of a long deleted voicemail message for days.
Anybody else having any of these problems?
Anybody know a fix for any of them?
I've already tried advanced_configuration, no great help there.
What's the latest/best cooked ROM? I like that the official has stuff like Voice Command and Sprite Backup, would like to keep them...
I haven't noticed any of those problems. I have however had problems with the phone being really sluggish at times. Still testing with no apps installed. I don't have the backlight problem. I have just used the settings in Kaiser Tweak and everything is working. Not sure that I will keep using it though. I will probably go back to Hyperdragon's newest ROM's. Those always seem to work really well for me.
No issues with the official AT&T ROM either.

Are you using the right SPL?
I did not try the rom. But I heard cleartype w/ landscape problem still exist w/ this rom (like the official HTC 6.1 rom). It could be fix by replacing the ddi.dll but will probably break Opera mini 9.5.
Problems??? Pull up a chair! First I installed the ROM and none of my would work. I couldn't connect to the internet. I downloaded the ROM again and reflashed it. This time icons started disappearing on my phone. I did a soft reset. Nothing. Did a hard reset. Nothing. I reflashed. Loaded my apps, they actually worked. I set up my email, and I could connect to the internet. Great! Finally! One hour later, I got a phone call, but my phone didn't ring. Huh?Anyway, answered it, when the other party spoken it came out the speakerphone. I checked my device and there was no sound: ringtones, music games, alarms. Soft reset...Startup sound played..loaded up and no sound. Call ATT for a help, they decided to send me a replacement. Bad device, I guess. So I redownloaded the ROM and tried a different phone( i know, i know), can't get email to work, can't get MMetrics work. I quit!I will be going to custom ROM! I have a lot of reading to do.
Been using the new AT&T Rom since it was released and not having any issues. The only minor problem I have is that I'm seeing some compatibility issues with the version of S2U2 that I am using. Otherwise, good to go.
I don't get how people are having problems with this. Everything works flawlessly with me.
Except threaded messaging sucks, but with Kaiser Tweak, I turned it off.
I have had only 3 major issues with this rom.
1: Camera works, but doesn't show anything on the screen. I have a black screen, press the capture button, and I get a picture, but I can't tell what I am looking at until I take the picture. Working on this issue now. [Update] I just installed HTC Camera v5.04 b29195.00 http://rapidshare.com/files/99227062/HTC_Camera_v5.04_b29195.00__PPC_.CAB . Works Perfect now!
2. Battery life was HORRID! After 10 minutes I was down to 90%, while it sat on the desk, screen off, nothing running. After switching from 1.65.21.18 to 1.65.21.14, life was peachy. 8 hours with normal usage and only down to 80%.
3. Blue Tooth drops erratically. I connected my bt headset to the phone, made a call, after 10 or 15 minutes, it dropped the headset. BT stayed turn on, but headset couldn't be found. Turned off headset, turned back on, magically found. Haven't figured out what is causing this, but am researching that as well. OK, So I got on HTC's website to see if there was an update. There is no update for BT for the Tilt WM6.1. However, there is a fix for TYTN II WM6.0. http://www.htc.com/europe/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=13&cat=0&dl_id=60. I decided to try this fix, installed thinking I would get the whole "this program was built for a previous version" garbage, but I didn't get that. Anyway, I am going to try this tomorrow when I make my calls. I will update if I notice it fixes my issues.
Otherwise, it's fast, good signal, good sound quality, etc. Overall I am pretty happy. Will be happier when I finally get the BT to stop dropping, as I travel a lot and it's illegal to talk on the phone w/o a hands free on any military installation.... Sorry if I didn't answer any problems others are having on this actual forum, but maybe someone else will be having the same issue and see my posts for my fixes. Thanks!
zip, zero, nada.......UI is faster, apps are faster, threaded SMS is really nice to have, MSVC works as advertised with my JB2.
Different Alarm Sounds!!
I have a small WAV file that I use as an alarm sound but now can't get the sound listing in the alarm setup. I use to put it in application data/sounds. It now doesn't show up if I put it there or anywhere else (/windows, /my documents/my ringtones). Anyone else have this problem?

All my WAV and MIDI files in the root of Windows show up fine. How small is the file? 600kb is the size limit for sounds on AT&T ROMs unless you modify the registry key that restricts it. 600k may be large for an mp3 file, but that's only mere seconds of a WAV file.
I upgraded as soon as it was available and am seriously considering going back to the old WM6.0 ROM, which worked well. I have had several lockups and had to soft-reset. I have also had problems with calls. Once, it rang and shoed me the call, but wouldn't let me pick it up. Other times I have had echos. GPS lock time is also much longer. Oh, yes, the equalizer in TCPMP creates terrible distortion. It worked great in 6.0. And I am using the recompiled version.
It is great to get results of satisfaction with the new ROM, but I personally would like to know, for those who have been having problems and those, answers to some questions:
1 Which SPL
2 Which radio
3 Activesync or POP for email
4 Bloatware installed or not
5 PIE or other browser
I am sure that there are others, but those are what come to mind for the moment.
No Problems Here
FWIW, I think my Tilt is running much better with the new ROM. I've only had it (the new ROM) for a couple of days, but TT7 and Google Maps seem to run faster, and It seems to detect WIFI networks MUCH faster than with the old ROM. I'm a happy camper, at least for now.
I've noticed that its been alot slower and I don't like having a button devoted to the ringtone volume. The other HTC Tab I was using that was supposed to be an official use had Music allowing me to access Windows Media very easily now I can't. I also noticed my dialing pad is different and not the same as it was. I also don't like the threaded SMS on Windows Mobile it doesn't suit it. It makes it look very confusing and also I've noticed it has problems moving the screen upwards so that I can see what is being written in the space. Another thing I notice is randomly the HTC Home screen cuts itself off cutting off portions of the tab information. Its something to get used to but I don't see it happening cause I can't figure out what happened to some items on the phone like my GPS doesn't work, I am experiencing worse internet problems than before, Wifi dies frequently, and the dialer doesn't seem to work like it used to. Its a disappointment.

Backlight timeout linked to lock??
When I re-downloaded the software and re-flashed a *third* time things seemed to work better. The only thing I did differently was skip the 'setup a password' that last time I flashed.
The phone worked pretty well all weekend, and then this morning I finally put in owner info and set a pin password.
And I just noticed the backlight has started dimming after 10 seconds (or less) again. Restart didn't correct it, nor did changing the setting in advanced config so the screen doesn't dim for unlock screen.
For now I turned off lock and went into the backlight tab and it's stopped doing it. BLOODY ANNOYING. I've seen mention of the backlight timeout bug in other forums too...
Even while the phone was working well over the weekend I noticed that fairly often the first attempt to bring it out of standby flashes the screen on then it goes back off, comes on and stays on when I press power the second time.
I ran into the idiotic bug where text is white on white when in landscape mode, know I saw something about that being a cleartype bug or something and there being a fix, but why the hell would it be released like that?
Also, I can NOT get the 'message sent' notification to disable... does 'advanced config' not actually work?
Buggy is an understatement!
Having been unable to bear/ignore the bugs I reverted back to 6.0
Here's what I along with you guys have issues with.
1)Ringtones revert back to it's default tone whenever I open: Settings>Phone
2) Back-light reverts back to 10 seconds at random and often.
3) Google maps will not display letters when searching for places, but it'll invisibly type
4) Typical freezes on pages and things of that nature
5) Bloatware..

I'll help you out here
Go into HKEY_CurrentUser --> ControlPanel --> Sounds --> FileSizeLimit ( it's a DWORD value)
Just delete the DWORD value, and bam, enjoy .
EDIT : wow, just realized this is my first post. I've been browsing the site since the Tilt came out, but I guess I've never found it necessary to post. haha!

I have the exact same problem with my 8925. My work buddy across the hall does not have this problem with his 8925. Running WM6.0 my screen has ALWAYS dimmed at boot, as well as after a call ended; his has never done so. Now, after we've both upgraded to WM6.1, I have all my same problems, as well as the additional 10 second auto dimming that I did not encounter with WM6.0, he still has none.
No matter what settings I change, no matter if connected to power, USB, or none, my screen dims after 10 seconds. I can get it to temporarily revert back to the setting of my choice, by going into the settings and then back out, but if I manually dim the phone, get a call, or pretty much anything, it defaults back to the automatic 10 second dimming. I'm so pissed off about this. S2U2 also automatically kicks in on every screen dim, so I can't use it while the dim prob is going on. Certainly someone within this HUGE base of geniuses has a definitive answer for this.
Lots of little bugs in this release.
Google maps doesn't like it.
Can't get TCPMP to work.
Gets sluggish.
MSVC doesn't notify.
Other things I can't think of now.
Pretty irritating to say the least.

Problem: Automatic Dialing/Voice Speed Dial execution when headphones connected

Dears,
I have latestLaurentius26_KaiserDiamond_V12 (Full) ROM installed.
The problem: when I have my headphones (original from the box) plugged in and listening to MP3 via CorePlayer 1.25 (or Windows Media Player does not matter) my phone automatically starts dialing to last dialed number without any prompt. If you delete call history then it does not dial, but open Voice Speed Dial window instead. It is very annoying as it can occure each 5-10 second. Sometimes it is fine for 1h and then only starts messing.
I was unable to find any logic sequence after which this all happens. I have tried to Soft-Reset and then start MP3 player but no luck, problem can arise the same way....
Please help me, what to do???!!!
Thanks for help!

You think this is ROM issue or it can be Radio related?
By the way I have figured out that problem starts occurring when headphones are connected and you press powers/sleep button to turn of the screen.
After that the mystery starts. May be there is shortcut configured somewhere, which can be switched off?!

Help.. Listen to music while Standby the Phone..

Last time i used the Dutty ROM .. which i could listen to music on windows media even i put my pocket pc into Standby mode ( The Upper right on/off Button ).. To
now im using the Hyperdragon IV Lolite edition ( build Feb 2009 ) .. and i can't use that great function anymore. The music will stop if you put your mobile into Standby mode..That's really waste of Battery when you only listen to music on the move and the screen still ON... Does anyone know how to do that??? which software ?
Thanks so much
I could be wrong, but I seem to remember, if you let the phone go into standby by itself, the music stays on. It only goes off if you " put " the phone into standby.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
It won't go to standby by itself while playing.
You could use AEBPlus to map a hardware key to "turn screen off", or change ROM again for one that does play during standby. It's not really clear which ones do and which ones don't, and why.

I just tried it on my Tilt, it went into standby and the music continued to play through the whole playlist. And I am pretty sure it worked on HD III at least.
the issue is genuine and has been covered in several threads here...
it has something to do with the combination of some direct show dll that is necessary if you want to use the new htc audio manager that is necessary if you want to use manila2d/touchflo2d properly...
search and be enlightened !!!
"i obviously didn't read and answered so removed post"
Sorry blaim it on the only access i have is Opera Mini.... doing my bonce in.....
you can use the windows media to map a key to turn off the screen.

Music Player Crashed After the Screen Turned Off?

My HTC pure crashes everytime I listen to music after the screen turns off. The same thing happened on both WMP and S2P. After the screen turned off, the music will keep playing for sometime and then stop. When I turn the screen on again, the program would crash and the whole phone would just freeze, not thing can be done but soft reset using the tylus. Did this happen to anyone? Anyone knows how to fix this?
This happens to me with some Kitchen ROMS, and i didn't find how to fix. The only way fix this (for me) was change the ROM.

That's the problem. My Rom is the original rom. It shouldn't have problems like this and yet it does.
same problem for me.
I've tried several different roms (also original ones) & always the same crash when I play mp3 from storage card (not from the main memory).
I've also tried several different players with no chance.
I've browsed the forum and tried the proposed solutions (pb with naming/library -> tested with only one simple song on the card).
help needed
Dont turn off the screen when playing music
leave it to turn off by it self
if it still not working
Try this one
delete everything in: My device \ Application Data \ HTC \ Audiomanager
Now it works fine.
tried out but still not working, any other ideas ?
a little more detail, it's not working neither with htc player or nitrogen or pocket music player... always the same issue, the music stop when I let the phone playing, it goes to sleep after a while & stop playing after let say 2 min. when power up again to check what happen, the player try to restart & crash
it seems not to happen with core player, but there is not screen off option so it drains the battery
Delete all the photo albums and any pictures in your music folder
and make sure to delete everything in: My device \ Application Data \ HTC \ Audiomanager
make a soft reset try again
to get a photo album in HTC music player press update photo albums
if it's still not working remove the read only from all of your music files
make sure of them

I think the reason for this is because of the windows mobile 6.5 power option. Unlike in the WM 6.1, I think when you check the option turn off the phone after x minutes, it will actually going into sleep mode and turn off other programs temporally, thats why the music player crashed. That's why my Tilt only last a day even if I didn't use it all day while my Pure can go for 2,3 or even more days. So what I did is I installed the xdaShutdown into my phone and for the sleep mode, instead of checking turn off power, I checked light out. And everytime I listen to music I uncheck the turn off power after x minutes in the power option. This may seem annoyed but it will help you until the problem is solved. Also, try using S2P, there's a option that keep the music playing even when the power is off, so you can just let the screen turn off by itself and the music will keep playing and you dont have to go to power option to uncheck the turn of power after x minutes everytime you want to listen to music. Just as long as you dont press the power button, the music will play. But it doesn't work smoothly on the Pure though since its still a beta version.
It is now working, but I don't really known why 'cos I've changed all...
FYI, I've flashed with the latest official rom, put a new µSD & copied only some of mine mp3's... but it works with all player (HTC one & 3d parties as well)
I will try with other ROMs, the old µSD and other mp3's with an experimental design to find what has blocked me for so long...
I have album pictures and I have never experienced this problem. There is an option in PocketMusic where you choose to ignore the sleep blablab thing. My device locks itself first and then screen turns off and music is still playing

seems to be finaly the µsd card, still working after several rom tests & when re-using the old µsd crash

Thx. Please keep me posted. I changed all of my music from .mp3 to .wma. It still crashes from time to time, but most of the time it'll work just fine. Maybe it is the microsd card. My brother uses the same phone and the same music file, but he doesn't seem to have this problem.

PowerAmp problem - stops playback after screenoff

Hello!
I hope this forum isn't 100% dead...
I had to take my Kaiser out of my closet because my HD2's screen broke and I can't afford a replacement. I flashed Android to it and I was surprised, how fast does it work on so weak hardware. But my problem is that I installed few apps (Next browser, Heroes 2 port - nevermind it works unplayable, exDialer, ES file explorer, updated all apps already present in ROM...), and I'm using PowerAmp to listen for music. But it simply doesn't work properly. When I turn the screen off, after a few seconds, playback stops. Did anyone suffer the same issue as me? I'm using Scoot's CyanogenMod 6 rom.
Also, I have another problem. Every time I turn on the scree, it goes white for a moment, then it shows some garbage and in the end, it shows everything properly. But it takes a while until it finishes. Maybe there's a cure for it, too?
