PointUI to replace Today Screen - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

When using PointUI, the app minimized and you are returned to the Today screen when hitting the End Button/Red Button. Is there anyway to disable this from happening? Meaning, is there a way to never be able to go back to the Today screen? Unless of course you go to "Close Home".
Thanks in advance.

I myself have been trying to find a way to completely replace the Today screen with PointUI, but without any success. So I ended up throwing together this little piece of software.
It is called GetPointUI and is basically a Today plugin, which acts similar to the SPBWatcher plugin. If PointUI is not running, it will start it, and if PointUI is running, it will activate it as soon as the Today screen becomes visible. To deactivate GetPointUI, simply uncheck the plugin in the Today settings.
Now, mind you, I have only tested this application on my XV6800 (and it is working perfectly) with PointUI installed in the default location. I do not have S2U and/or any other launchers/Today replacements installed, so GetPointUI might interact with those in an undesired way. If you should have PointUI installed in a non-default location, GetPointUI SHOULD be able to detect that and find the correct path, but this has not been tested. The same goes for new versions of PointUI that might be released in the future. GetPointUI SHOULD always bring up the latest version, but again, that is pure theory. I am curious myself...
Installation: Just install the attached CAB and soft-reset your device.
NOTE: I will NOT be responsible for any damage on your device or any data loss you may incur. You are using this software at your OWN risk.

Unfortunately, that CAB file you posted won't install. No error, just "Unsuccessful"

here this may have fixed it

Perfect. Thanks guys. Since the time of posting (January), pointui has created a feature where you can choose to replace the Task Bar/Start Bar with the pointui task bar. Touching this "pointui task bar" takes you back to the home screen and at another location on the bar it gives you the "Running Applications"
Thanks again guys. Much appreciated.

I have an HTC S640 with Windows Mobile 6, I get the same error...will not install. Without this app, PointUI although very slick, without it beeing able to work like this its just eye candy....
If anyone has this working, please POST!!!!!

i know this is off the topic, but does anyone know if POINTUI is still in production for a new release?
it is true there are bugs in pointui, but free is free.. for the most part, POINTUI is a excellent all in one interface, simple, basic and fast...

Need Task Switcher for WM6

Hi all. I am on the hunt for a decent Task Switcher app that will work with WM6.
I used to use Wisbar Lite and loved it but it looks yuck on WM6 as it forces the older (WM5 Close Icon)
What I need is Something that I can launch with a button and will show all the running apps in a pop up window and allow me to switches between them by tapping on an application icon in said pop up window.
And it must not change or add anything to the start bar.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Jules
pBar
have you tried the pBar application that is around on the forums? it's freeware and was based on the old wisbar. seems to work well, but i don't think i am using a full wm6...just the beta ish...or wm5 heavily skinned wm6....
do a search and you're bound to find it...

I'm running a PDAviet WM6, it has this in it's ROM. Tap and hold upper-right corner.
I love it when I can answer my own questions
After searching and using a bunch off apps and not having any luck I just tried Small Menu and It works 100% in WM6.
Meets all my requirements
More news or problems as I find them
Jules
gspocket magic
best app that does all you want
Thanks for the replies.
Vilem. please can you elaborate on that?
I am using Davit ver 3 and have not seen this app.
Sandrobber. Thanks for the file, I have tried the app before but it doesn't match or look good on the stock WM6 start bar. am I missing a setting or something?
So far SmallmenuPlus is the winner for me.
Jules
I have to say, people I know that have been running Crossbow for a few months, have found SmallMenuPlus to be great.
On an unrelated note, I've run SmallMenu pretty much since I got my first WinMob phone, and can highly recommend it. It's not perfect, but it's very useful.
PocketMagic is also a very worth (free) contender.
I don't use Wisbar (resource usage....) so can't comment.
V
Does anyone know a way to exclude some applications (activesync and phone) from smallmenuplus task list?
Killing the phone process during a conversation or closing activesync during a pc sync can be really dangerous/disappointing.
No, I don't think you can, hence my "It's not perfect"
Try writing to the author, he's still active, although the app only seems to get minor updates these days.
V
I've been using Dinar HandySwitcher 2.5 from DinarSoft for a good while now. It has the decided advantage that you can also remove the application from memory, or all applications from memory, right from the main screen. Most times the only way to clear applications is through the start/settings/systems /memory route or a hard power down.
It's not free but it is cheap, easy and effective. Don't know if it runs on W6.
Trying it now.
Works fine in WM6.
Thanks
pocket magic
you can chenge the pictures of the start bar in pocket magis but it takes some enginutity and time. your have to edit the bitmap. Play aroung with it enough and I'm sure you can make it even look loke a vista button

@ZaJules,
Which taskswitcher did you settle with in the end for WM6?
Hadn't seen this thread, thanks for bumping it up . So I'm trying SmallMenuPlus and this seems like a really nice (and fast) replacement for Wisbar Lite. The one thing I miss though is there is no soft reset in the menu. I like having that ability to do a soft reset via the menu due to the case I have doesn't have easy access to the reset hole on the side. Anyone know how to add this?
Also, does SmallMenuPlus not close apps when you press the X? Does it just put them in background? Can that be configured?
SKmenu
Skmenu is the one for me. Its not free(for the cascading menu part, which can be deactivated! ), but the taskbar switching works 100% with the demo. I have always used it, its very light, and its accessible 100% of the time= very quick(response speed is the issue i have with the rest of the apps mentioned). Although it doesnt come preconfigured setting it up takes less than a minute, and its easy enough for any level user.
The best solution for me. I also use an Alt-tab application mapped to a hardware button for easy access, like when driving etc...
about taskswicher
sry my poor english
Since 2004 and IPAQ6340 until today wizard/universal/hermes WM6 I have used HaaliTS TaskSwicher-2002.
Lives silently in upper left corner, shows additionally free battery and memory.
Dont needs install, copy exe, make shortcut, all )
Perfect for me and my friends (~25-30 units).
Have tested all here overmentioned progs, but find it best. Small footprint, etc.
regards
And what about this little tool??

BTW: I´m using ilauncher and you can put taskmanager to button. Works perfekt in every WM6

Uninstalled SPB Pocket Plus - Something's Missing

Oh knowledgable HTC folk,
I'm sure I've seen something on this but multiple searches have found nothing ...
I've uninstalled SPB Pocket Plus 4 (I have a registered 3 but was trying 4) and I've lost the HTC close/menu button on the top right of the home screen. Now, the close button only minimises apps rather than closes them fully.
How do I get this button / feature back ... please ...
And an early "Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year" to all,
Gary.

cr*p, I've really tried to avoid this since getting my device about a month ago... Would I be able to backup/restore everything to current state or would it result in the same thing (I presume the worst but just asking)?
Oh, well: I guess it will give me an excuse to load one of the great new ROM's out there. I was hoping to wait for an update with the video drivers first though...
All you have to do is go to the Pocket Plus options screen & uncheck the close button option.

Do you mean I should reinstall PP and then go to the options screen ... ?
Gary.
First go into settings > system > task manager (if it's there) and try to turn on the close button feature. If it's not there, then follow below:
Reinstall of PP4 may or may not work now that you've uninstalled PP4, but it's worth a try.
Also, if you want the HTC task manager back, you can get it here in cab form and it will work fine once installed.

Actually, it was late and the only one I saw when looking quickly through was wktask1_1170 (in the cab collection). I guess this is the OEM version(?).
Is there any advantage for me uninstalling this and installing the latest version (presumably a local customised version)?

Interesting ....
It did exactly what I expected and what was on the phone in the first place (tiny drop down menu top right corner of today screen, properly closes programs, etc.)
Having said that, I've just checked my "Remove Programs" list and indeed, it says "waku WkTASK"; doesn't sound very OEM to me. Does work correctly though.
Is there any advantage to the other Task Managers that have been mentioned?

Gary.

no, actually wktask has more functionality, maybe too much. Are you using a custom ROM? I ask because wktask doesn't come standard in the OEM ROMs.
The HTC version is just a task manager. You can find a screenshot here:

No, I'm just using the standard ROM that came with the phone. For the task manager, I just went to the directory here and picked the first file that I saw with "Task" in the title ....
I confirm again: it does work though
I am thinking about a custom ROM but am 1> fairly confused about the range out there and b> am waiting for a critical benefit such as the new video drivers.
Regards,
Gary.
well no rom is going to have video drivers, at least for now. that would have to come from HTC.
as for which rom to choose, Dutty's are some of the best. Which ever one you choose, make sure to research these forums to get other people's opinions first.

What is happening to my start menu?

Hi board,
Lately my start menu has been disapearing! I can still see the icons there but any writing listing the program is gone and the background is white. When I do a soft reset everything comes back, but this has been happening daily now! I installed the new ROM from AT&T could this be the issue? Any suggestions to stop this would be appreciated!!
Thanks
Same here
I also had this problem, and i don't use that ROM.
the only thing i notice is that if you go in and change one thing in the menu settings (in settings), ad one program to start menu or take away one.
then you have the right start menu a wile, than the problem comes agen.
and after that my ok button stop working, both the hard key and the one in right top.
did a hard reset and for now the problem is gone, but i have not installd all programs that i had before.
The problem most come from some other software that we both have had installd.

Apparantly it is caused by App's havnig a ++ (or maybe +) in their Shortcut.
That was the cause of the problem by Slither's Cube.
Try clearing your recent Items. And removing and shortcuts with pluses in (if any).
HTH.
Cheers,
Dave
I noticed this problem on an emulator after installing the C++ cube. So it shouldn't have anything to do with the ROM or the Kaiser in general.

Uninstalled SPB, taks menu is now gone...

Hi everybody.
Hopefully you all can help me out. I recently installed SPB pocket plus thinking I needed that for their Insight, but I now understand I don't. I went ahead and un-installed the pocket plus before i installed insight, and now the task option in the top right corner is gone on my Today screen. So I can't close programs individually or see whats running. Any ideas? Really don't want to restore a backup as I haven't done one since January. Thanks for any help! -Jeff

May have a solution for you but it may not be what you are looking for.
Here is quickmenu. Quickmenu basically sets your device similar to a PC's start menu. Once you install this cab you will find it under start>programs. After you click on the application you will notice a new start menu.
Possible solution: Start>click on quickmenu>option>X-button of screen:Long-press to close, short to minimize.
After you have this set up correcting, simply click start to view your open programs. Fairly simple I have been using this application since I received my Tilt and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Hope you enjoy it.
I installed a barebones ROM and found I really liked that task manager in the top right corner....
Do a search on this site for Task_Manager_2_0_30487_2.CAB, it is exactly what you are looking for AND has a couple of other features too.
The difference between this and Quickmenu is that this one doesn't have all the other stuff (although I use quickmenu)....
Hope this helps,
MBN
yea, I'm sort of looking just to get the original one back, I'm not sure what I should do. I guess if I don't have a solution I'll be forced to run a backup I did on sprite. Was hoping this was a common problem but i guess not
I had the same problem when I tried the demo out. After a little research on SPB's forums, it turns out that it is a known problem during uninstallation.
Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you on how to fix it. I was so PO'd that I went and hard reset the phone. I hope that SPB fixes the issue and I'd like to see how support is for WM6.1

I'm tellin' ya, try the one I referenced above, it has just the corner app but where the original has a couple of options above the list of open apps, this offers three little buttons: Close All Open Apps|Settings|Memory %.
This takes up the same real estate the other one uses... give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I actually tried it, and I love. The only thing I don't understand is the functionally, all I can figure out as of right now that it shows memory usage, thats it. Anyway, thanks for the heads up! -Jeff
On Kaiser You can restore the today quick menu (in the upper corner): in the system settings find "X Button" icon - tap on it and there will be an option to turn it on/off. If its suddenly disappeared that can be becouse of something (e.g. 3rd application) turned it off. Thats happend in my case with SPB Pocket Plus on wm6.

wkTask

Introduction: I have searched an answer to my question both in xda-developers, in SE Xperia X1 forum and in wkTask manual.
Questions:
#1: is there a way to have wkTask always on top/in front of WM today screen?
#2: is there a way to add to the laucher other links other than those on Start menu? (to make it simple: how can I add to the launcher links that are in Settings folder? I neither can find them on my PDA)
Thanks to you all, as always!
P.S.: great program wkTask... would suggest to cook it into Jack's lite Rom, using it I can almost use no panels at all!
you've lost me on number 1 im afraid, what do you mean wktask is always showing on my topbar
Ive used WkTask since way back in all my devices, but now with X1 I felt it was causing problems... Some weird crashes and I switched to P +'s task manager... WkTask is great but now I just learned to live with other tools.
that's odd, I found quickmenu causing some issues, not wktask
I stopped using it so long ago that I can remeber exactly what were the problems, but there were some crashes and whatnot..
I use Wktask as well, just not the quickmenu it has. Works like a charm for me!
Works fine on my X1 as well!

what you want from 1 still isn't too clear, I think it might be a translation problem
You're saying you want it always on top just on the today screen. Which is a contradiction..
I'm presuming that means you only want it active on the today screen, if so then I think the answers no as that's not what Wktask is about..
You can get it to disappear on the today screen by checking the tickbox "hide the task-list when there are no tasks"
I tend to hide always START (manilla-tf3d) and activesync
2) yes but it's not that easy. control panel items are .cpl some are .dll and others are .exe will start normally some wont.
They should all be in windows.

#2 solved, they actually are in windows folder, but I needed to tick the "show all files" option under menu. Then, copy the exact name and insert it manually on the launcher.
However, the name of the .exe, .dll, .*** it is not the one shown on the settings panel
#1 I'll try to explain myself. In Windows (normal one, not mobile) you can have some windows always on top. This mean that the "always on top" window will always stay in front of everything. Now, on WinMo, I really like the wktask launcher. But, it is not always visible on my screen, every time I need to activate it. Is there a way to have it always visible?
Hope I've been able to explain the point, otherwise thanks anyway, I'll survive without this trick, take an English course and come back to explain it

But I think the answer is no. Maybe ask the author of WKtask if he could implement it as an option?

question for the one who use wktask with their xperia: The OK button (not the OK from WM, the OK touch in the right bottom corner) does not close the program but hide it when wktask is launched. Is it a bug or something expected ? If it is not a bug, how is it possible to close any program by pushing the OK key, as a default behavior ? any idea ???

WKTask Launcher settings Backup
Here is answer from directly from maker of WKTAsk:
The settings of WkTASK are written in registry.
So you can backup them by using "PHM Registry Editor".
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Backup steps
1. Open \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\waku\WkTASK.
2. Tap&hold WkTASK folder icon
3. Select "Export" and input file name
Regards,
waku
I use for this not PHM Registry Editor, but Total Commander, and without problem. In new phone/install only copy the WkTask.reg into registry and softreset. It´s easy
Is the a New WkTask for WM 6.5 ?
I have Att Tilt2
