Calendar from WM2003SE to WM6 - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Software Upgrading

Hello,
I have backuped my calendar in WM2003SE. Then, I have installed WM6 and I can't see any option to restory any backup. Is there special application needed? If so, I'd be grateful if you can provide it to me. How do I restore calendar from WM2003SE?
EDIT: I have installed "Mobile Backup" for WM6 but it doesn't find my backup from WM2003SE

What application did you use to perform the backup in WM2003? There is no native application so you must have used something else to do it.

Argh - it's not my PDA and I was convinced it was pre-installed. Something like xbackup. Am I right?
The name of backuped file (I've chosen to backup ALL DATA) is "CompactFlashBackUpNew"
EDIT: Couldn't find that xbackup on the web, can anybody provide it? thx in advance

If I remember correctly xbackup was included in the original i-mate pda2k ROMs. I think that is the application I used to have. It was a 3rd party application that was included by the distributor of the phone. I have never seen it available anywhere other than from I-Mate. If you can restore back to WM2003 and then download and use a different application (or better yet sync to a PC) then upgrade you will be far better off.

hi, I use pimbackup from we2003 to wm6 and it works

same problem i can not get my xbackup contact back
is there any hope

backup from wm2003 on wm5

ok guys i have a lil problem and i hope you'll help me to solve it...
recently ive upgraded my 9090 to wm5 and ive made a backup using sprite software... however im not able to force that piece of software to restore my inbox and contacts on the new system... i have a fresh backup, made using wm2003 xBackup software and here goes the question...
is it possible to restore xBackup's backup file on wm5 (helmi 1.3.2)?
(the file is called CompactFlashBackUpPim)
No, you can't do it. The different versions of the OS store the data differently. You need to go back to 2003, activesync your contacts etc to your PC, upgade, then re-sync. I think the upgrade guide mentions this.
I always keep mine sync'ed anyway, so doing an upgrade is a very quick process. I also keep cabs on the SD card so I can quickly install everything.
and is it a way to see the data like appointments or contacts from that backup file?

BackupTool

What is Installer_Kaiser_BackupTool_5.1.0.b1450_HTC_WWE_20070710.exe ?
I found it in the Application CD ...
Anyone has installed it?
SpiteBackup - works quite well....
R
Then, what is this SpriteBackupEnglishPersonalSetup.exe ?
I found that in the Application CD as well.
That's why I confuse.

from what i can tell they are both the same. i installed sprite, then decided to see wha the backup tool was about so i went to install it. it said sprite backup was already installed and asked to remove it in order to install the backup tool. therefore thay are both the same thing
Is one of them not the Sprite application that runs on your desktop, i.e to schedule backups and the like?
Is it the latest full version of Sprite Backup? v6.x and allows backup to remote desktops, etc?
I think it is full version, but not sure about features ...
Looks like nobody has installed it.
I installed sprite and when I tried to instal the HTC backup the installer asked if I was modifying or uninstaling sprite so I decided they were the same and closed it.
PS in the about menu when u launch sprite on the PPC it says its the authorized HTC version.
The Sprite version is the complete version including the pc agent version 2.0.0.791.
Indeed,
I went installed SpriteBackupEnglishPersonalSetup.exe because it has bigger filesize So, I thought it is more complete
It is working very well and has PC agent (initiate the backup process from PC).
SpriteBackupEnglishPersonalSetup.exe contains the PC app and the PPC "Sprite Backup" app version 5.1.0 Build 1449. Installer_Kaiser_BackupTool_5.1.0.b1450_HTC_WWE_20070710.exe contains only the PPC app, version 5.1.0 Build 1450. Both apps are the "HTC Edition".
So I'd install SpriteBackupEnglishPersonalSetup.exe first, then Installer_Kaiser_BackupTool_5.1.0.b1450_HTC_WWE_20070710.exe to install the updated PPC app.
Good finding, let us know if it works fine.

sprite backup
anyone know where i can find a copy of sprite backup? i have changed roms from at&t tilt to orginial htc. as a result i no longer have sprite backup. another thought, if i could find a copy of the oem htc disc it would be even better!
******
i now see that sprite backup is a stand-a-lone product. i was under the impression that it came with the kaiser.
Did u find Sprite backup?

TomX2.. did you find the Sprite Backup that was included with the Tilt? I have the same need as I flashed one of the custom roms and need Sprite back but couldn't find it anywhere on the forums yet. Unless I wasn't searching hard enough.
Any luck?
aj,
when i posted i was under the impression that sprite was a product that came with or was developed for the kaiser. i since have found out that it is a stand-a-lone product. my ignorance, sorry. as for the product, i've used the demo and it seems to be quite nice. maybe a call to at&t explaining that you lost sprite might be of help?

Camera not working anymore

Hi,
i flashed the TOFCLOCK HIMA WM6 AKU.0.7.0 Fresh
upgrading from WM5.
After that I restored a Sprite-Backup that I made from
WM5 to get all my Apps up and running.
Everything works fine so far, only the camera-button is
not working. It says "Error opening the shortcut or locating
the target filename".
I tried to reconfigure the button under Start->Settings->Button
but there I cannot find the Camera Application???
It is gone somehow. I also dont find it with file-explorer.
Can someone tell me the NAME of the Application, where it should
be located? \Windows - folder I guess???
And can I separately install it, do I only need the exe or also some
dlls.
Can someone provide me the files?
Thanks in advance for any help
Greetings
did u hard reset it after Flashing
the NO,YES,YES Way
Yes, I did this.
I also checked the camera BEFORE applying my Sprite-Backup
and it worked there.
Unfortunately I did not check the filename of the camera app
or saved it.
It is a bit strange since I dont know exactly how sprite backup
applies its backup...
Also I dont want to redo the complete flashing process since
my sprite backup is not up to date right now and my pc for
syncing is at my workplace...
So my Idea was to just "reinstall" the camera app or just
copy the files to the pocketpc to get it working again.
The problem is your backup..u say that u made the backup from Wm5 and restored it to WM6....Even windows has some limitations...WM5 Is a lot different then Wm6.U cant run WM5 Backup on WM6..my advise is that u hard reset it and then see if its working
I know that sprite backup causes the problem.
but I use some apps (financial and business organization)
that I dont know how they store their data on the pocketpc
and they dont sync anymore with vista and new windows
mobile center.
Currently spritebackup is the only way I get them to work again
on WM6 ;-) so I need to apply it.
Since I dont have any other problems right now beside the
camera I am pretty happy with WM6 on my "old" device.
I dont need camera very often but every now and then it
comes in quite handy.
I guess I wait till i come back to my workplace next year,
make a current sprite backup then reinstall WM6, save camera app,
apply sprite backup, apply camera app ...
and see if it is working.
Hi, tschombe
go 2
windows\start Menu\Programs\camera.lnk
the shortcut should read
:MSCAMERA?shellres.dll,-8263
then soft reset
first copy the shortcut from ur ppc to pc and drag it on a notepad..their u will see what hesham wroted..if it doesent match..fix it..and overright the shortcut by copying it back
sorry, I was on vacation for a while.
I tried the above solution, there was NO shortcut, so I created
a new one with notepad and copied it to my ppc
Now I have a shortcut that opens FileExplorer on the root folder,
when I tab the shortcut?

Upgrading to MW6.1. Any problems with back-up?

I plan to update the OS of my TyTN II from WM6.0 to 6.1.
I regularly back-up my files with Sprite Back-up.
My question is, will there be any issues (incompatibility etc) with restoring my back-up files to the new OS?
On that note, will the programs I used to have in WM6.0 (e.g. TCPMP, TouchFlo cube from XDA forums etc) be still compatible with WM6.1? Will I be able to re-install them without issues?
TIA
rigel
Only if you have a new enough version of Sprite Back-up

There will be issues unless you get (possibly at cost) a new enough version of Sprite backup. The freebie version included on the HTC CDROM may complain if you try this and only handles restores and backups within the same OS. Someone posted about exactly this issue here on 23/7.... will search for that thread.
***Edit*** Here is that thread but read what it mentions about cross OS back-ups and restores not working with everything (except things like personal folders, contacts etc).
Problem after installing WM6.1
Personally when ever I upgrade an OS on any device I always reinstall software from scratch and check the software apps compatibility with the new OS before doing so at the software publishers website.
***Edit 2*** Changed subject and content to reflect possibly not the very latest version still being OK. Latest post after this one (to check manual) is good advice.
I have Sprite 6 and it is fully compatible with WM 6.1. If you have Sprite WM2005 I THINK you can still do a back up and restore but need to go through a process of getting an upgrade file first. IIRC the Sprite User Guide details the process under 'Advanced Mode'. If not, the Sprite site has it under their FAQs re WM2005.
Hi!
May I join in ?
has anyone discovered any other issues?
I use CE-Star, and check email via an Exchange Server.
Is ugrading to 6.1 really beneficial ?
Back to my searching...
ofiaich
Now that I've thought about it...
Much thanks Flying Kiwi
After thinking about it, and reading that other thread, I'm thinking I don't really need the Sprite backup. I mean, the really important stuff (contacts, e-mail, tasks/schedules/calendar) are already in my laptop, and I could just do a sync after I upgrade to 6.1, right?
Come to think of it, what other stuff exactly is in the Sprite backup file? All the other stuff like music, pictures and whatnot are in my memory card. Will 6.1 recoginse all those files in my microSD? Or do I have to sync all my music from WMP all over again?
I don't mind having to re-install all the other applications. I'm also just wondering if they would also be compatible with 6.1.
Pardon the "amatureish" questions. I'm all new at this

I'm on a mission to update my ROM, and I've been reading/thinking about it, and I have come to the following conclusions.. Hopefully if I'm wrong on any of them, someone can say so..
I'll backup my SMS and PIM data. PIM data should sync back over, SMS will not, so I'll need to restore that.
Update HardSPL. I don't know what version I have, but I'll put the latest suggested for WM 6.1 (3.56 I believe)
I'll take Sprite Pro, and download a copy of my stock ROM and Radio and put those three files on my SD card, so if all else fails, I can just go right back the way I was. (Right??)
Write down all of my *must have* apps, make sure I have their cabs and put them and licensing info on my SD card for easy reinstall. And what ones I can save settings on or write down the settings, do that so I have it.
Hard reset, install new ROM (I think I'm going with ROMEOS) and Radio (1.65.20.xx I think it was I decided on for GPS, battery etc), hard reset again.
Tilt specific settings will go away, but there's a thread on that by redbandana that's great. So restore some cabs there to fix that back.
Install my minmum required apps and reconfigure them, make sure it's all working, configured, get synced back up with Outlook, etc.. Once that's done, make a backup with Sprite Pro.
Reinstall auxillary stuff, but I'm going to try (my best!!) to minimize this, as it makes a mess and seems to cause problems. Right now my Tilt has no notifications (not Opera related), no LEDs (thus TT7 doesn't work), and some general weirdness sometimes.
Hopefully by doing this I'll have two complete setups.. the WM6.1 setup installed and backed up on the SD card. Also my current WM6.0 setup that I could return to by hard reset, install 6.0 ROM and radio and run backup file if all else fails.
So in the end, I could swap between my current WM6.0 and new WM6.1 without a lot of hassle if I needed to, but hopefully I won't need to.
Hope this isn't considered thread crapping, but seems relevant to most people migrating to 6.1 and are unsure about the process (as I am stll myself)

Touch Diamon PC Suite?

Hey guys,
Have decided to give my Diamond another whirl after falling out with my LG Renoir but am using a new laptop as the one with the active sync etc......... broke........ and I cant find the "get started" cd with everything on!!!
Anyone know if I can download the active sync etc from somewhere?
Its free from Microsoft
Dont suppose you have a link?
Sorry for being a pain in the backside.
Ohh found it. Thanks.
Is the back up program etc included in active sync?

No, since ActiveSync 4.0 there's no backup feature in ActiveSync! If youÄ're looking for Sprite Backup, it must be on a separate CD by HTC! But you could find it on HTC's website in the e-Club section, I think!

I had a look on the HTC site and when I put my serial number in it said my device is not suitable for this download!!???
Then you haven't an original HTC Touch Diamond!
Make a search through the whole Diamond section and you will find a proper serial number!
Ahh ok, will have look, Thanks!
I have downloaded PIMBackup but thats on the phone itself, do I have to backup the info to my PC if I want to do a ROM update??

If you don't sync with ActiveSync, it's better to do that for not to lose your PIM data (SMS, Mails, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks)!
I have downloaded Activesync and have it running and syncing ok.
Have also downloaded a trail version of Sprite Backup.
Would this be ok to do a ROM update? (or flash, whatever its called! lol)
If you only want to backup your contacts, messages, calendar and tasks, I think that PIM Backup 2.8 is all you really need for this job!
Back up them onto your Internal Storage, flash the desired ROM and import your data with PIM Backup again!

If somebody need sprit backup 6.5 version, can pm me, and i'll send you...
