How to 'WOW' a Windows Mobile User?

Hey Guys.
Long time reader. Sometimes contributer. Tried cooking my own one weekend... Failed a bunch of times, realized that there are way more talented people cooking roms that are better then mine.
My question to the community is this. What do you have, can you do with, or make your Windows Moble Phone do that will really WOW a regular windows mobile user such as myself?!
Linux/Google Android is getting close to complete and it is a new interface but it still doesn't really WOW?! Windows Mobile 7? when? where? what will THAT look like? Anyone controlling their house? lights? garage door? climate conditions? Anyone have a Kaiser that transforms into a tiny bot with a gatlling gun? I mean what does it take to really impress someone with a Kaiser?
Since the 8525 came out and even a little before (verizon 6600, 6700, 6800 & treo 700w) I have been addicted to flashing my phone to find a faster, better looking and more reliable rom. Threaded SMS, good job. Better Photo Album software, awesome. Something other then the default file explorer, pocket ie and media player, FANTASTIC! more RAM and ROM space, higher MicroSD capacity, totally cool! but I'm at the point where you just want more! It's like some addictive drug I guess.
anyone want me to be a tester?! for anything? where do i sign up?
now that i re-read this.. maybe i should have put this in the general forum...

i run HARET and everyone goes WOW!

here's a list of what made me go "wow!" over the years: htc home, htc cube.throttlelauncher,spb mobile shell,android,etc up until touchflo3d aka manila2d which is the last coolest thing i played with.

a little program called basils smser is alot of fun, its a bomber flooder, type what message you want to send and how many times you want to send it. it also has practical uses such as voting for american idol haha i got just over 20 thousand votes in for the last finale
another program called oist allows you to remotely control your phone through txt messages
SKYFIRE! the skyfire revolution my friend is a must
the panoramic camera function is fun to play with
also their is a program that you take a picture of a buisnes card and it automatically picks everything up and fills in all the information.....
a prgram that acts as a remote for your tv.....
their is alot of stuff out their really..... with windows mobile if you can imagine it there is just about a program to do it

you know what? ...... almost everytime someone posts something different here on XDA... its makes me go WOW.....why? you ask? becuase its windows based! (meaning we can rape the [email protected]$# out of it...haha) and i love not having restrictions at all as we do with these phones in general..... so when someone ask me to get away from htc or windows based phones... i say HELLLLL NOOOO just for that reason!!!!!
ps.... if you do your research you would be able to ask for a #2 with no tomatoes if you wanted it to...... hypothetically speaking!!!!!

My list is shorter:
when I got my first WM 2003 SE PocketPC for Phone Edition (or whatever that horrible name was) I expected and waited for BSOD for about a week until I finally shook my head in disbelief it didn't happen
And I'm with WinMo since - that's my one and only WOW...

Don't be naive. It's a Windoze mini computer with a phone. The worst existing Operating System on the market, perhaps ever in the computing history. Isn't it a "WOW!" already? It's a miracle in itself that it works
And as previous poster said - that's also exactly why we all use it, don't we? To have possibility to hack, crack, f*ck and whatever else we can with it. Same as with our big computers. We use linux for daily stuff (or a Mac at worst, if youre into eyecandy limited crap), and Windozes for the apps that are handy and not avail. there. Its exactly the same with our small computers, aka PPC or Smartphones.
So, honestly, if youre into WinMo phones for some "kewl" "wow factor", youre in the wrong place, and with wrong device in your hand.
I say go get an iCrap 3G and start pleasuring it (/edit: I mean fingering it, like all those Apple nuts do) and start showing off if you're into "wow" instead of what you can do with it or use it for , and of course if you're not the last on the block to have that crappy "i" phone that consists entirely of "kewl" look but no substance at all ;-) ... because seriously, as far as "kewl factor" goes, no one beats Apple (in both uselessness and "wow" factor in the same time) and current "best looking UI" on WinMo - Manila - (notice I didn't say it is best at all, just best looking) is still not as cool as iPoo's UI (because it can NOT be - can you even imagine using i.e. Word or Excel with just touch screen and no stylus? Not to mention lack of copy'n'paste ROTFL)
And don't count on Android. As linux-based OS, it will never be as popular as cranky WinMo - because most people use Windozes and ppl stick with what they know usually. I'm sure it will be best and most stable OS out of all mobile platforms, yet it won't be more popular in the mobile world than linux is among PC users (I wish I'm wrong...)
If anything - maybe one day that old Symbian, if it still have some juice left in it, may surprise us one day with stable and "WOW'y" OS...

oh and yeah, why is it in development? Im not even sure it even fits "general", it should have been in iPhone section... oh yeah <smack myself in the head> thankfully we don't have any iPoo section

I can lock and unlock my car doors, open my car doors, roll my windows up and down, start the engine, turn it off, turn on and off the headlights and control my stereo from my WinMo's touch screen. details are to be remain in my head since it took me a year to make it possible. When I show it to people, I don't just get a "WOW" I get lots of "HOLY **** "

Yes, the Apple fan boi's are an annoying bunch...but how many WM users here are just as fanatical? Just try and threaten the superiority of WM and watch the flaming begin. I'll probably get beat up and get my lunch money taken away just for mentioning this.
I have both. I'm an OS Agnostic. But many, many are not...

well, actually, at least for 1, Web browsing 2, gaming, the iPhone is (way) better than WinMo... (I know both platforms extremely well before you ask me.. )

It's been how many years since the release of the HTC tornado? 3 or 4 years? Back when I had my sda.. when I pictured 3 or 4 years into the future I expected much better gaming. I pictured Full speed GBA, maybe even PS1. The performance has not improved in 3 or 4 years now! it's goten worse! I think the only reason why the iphone is better is because HTC is making it look good. If HTC would have continued to progress in performance we'd probably be matched or better than the iphone.
That's just my take on it lol.

While the WM platform is more oriented towards the business department, the iPhoney is more oriented towards the young, "hip" generation. I personally say the iPhone is good at what it doesn, and if somehow, someone, hacked it and got tf3d and winmo apps running on it, I'm sold. The OS is just built so muc hbetter. But it bugs me that people want the iPhoney interface >.> I mean it's just a fancy application launcher with big round shiny buttons. What's so cool about that?

Absolutely agreed. the WinMo platform has had GREAT gaming potential since 2004 (the intel 2700g-based x50v). Too bad Microsoft / HTC didn't bother making the platform a viable gaming platform for games developers. This is why iPhone has blown out of the water the entire WM platform when it comes to gaming.

Well let me throw my 2-3 pence in.....
I recently purchased a iPhoney for my oldest son. And one of the rules of him having it is daddy gets to play with it....... to evaluate it of course. My original assessment of the phone from when it first came out hasn't changed. Neither platform (iPhone or WM) is better than the other. The iPhone is far better at being a "toy" and WM is far better at being a "tool". Whose hands you put either phone in determines which one will be better than the other. In my hands (where I need my phone to work like a laptop) an iPhone may be fun to play with, but it just won't cut it in the functionality I need on a daily bases. Put a WM phone in my son's or wife's hands (where all they care about is ease of use, email/texting, music/video, web surfing, games) it is far too complicated for them to ever make full use of the phone.
No doubt the iPhone is one kick ass phone for what it was designed to do. And that is to fulfill the wants of the simple minded masses with the before mentioned functions. The iPhone has the edge in those categories. Some of the things I need in a phone and the iPhone lacks:
1. No bluetooth A2DP
2. No way to explore files
3. No seperate keyboard
4. No native support for Office docs
5. No native way to shoot video
6. No MMS
7. No tethering
8. No USB memory simulation
9. No copy/paste
10. No multi tasking of apps
11. No removable battery
12. No replaceable memory card
I'm with some of the rest of you guys when it comes to iPhone fan bois/gurlz. They completely bought in to Job's "revolutionary" hype so much it makes me gag. Of course there are your WM fanners, but they are not so much the "sheeple" like the Apple lovers.

Im not sure on the accelerometer & GPS v the iPhone but the iPhone does have a dyno app and i have seen video comparisons of their Dyno app v a dedicated unit and every time the app won out over the dedicated unit.
Im not saying that it will be exactly the same but to me its promising.

I retract my previous statement, but we'll c how it comes out, hopefully the same or better

might be waiting for paid apps. if this thing is as good as Dynolicious for the iphone then its definatly going to be worth paying for.

just for reference, i have used a mobile dyno device a long time ago, and it was pretty accurate.
if you want spot on results go to a shop with a dyno.. but it gave a very good estimation for a 200$ device back in the day

it more of something fun to find out.
And if its as good as the iPhone version than it will be really accurate.
Plus i wouldnt even think about spending 200 on something like that, if i can get something for 10

If you make a statement like this, then obviously you're not a car guy, not even with that screen name.
Yeah, it would be a "cool" app, but if someone was to quote me their engine power based on the reading from a phone (G1, iPhone or otherwise), I would laugh.

a nice dyno app would be better if you have fuel management hardware. there is a system called megasquirt which you can build the hardware from scratch and download their application to tune the engine. i think its open source so it should have the source code and it can possibly ported to the g1, im not an expert. just know how to use a dyno and an engine management system. just integrate an android device with megasquirt or aem, or greddy emanage it would be a nice combo. so there would be no need for a laptop. too bad im not a programmer.

Im just not a guy who wants to waste money. Going off the video i posted in this thread the iPhone version was more accurate.
so i wouldnt care if the dedicated unit was the same price id still go with the one that was more accurate.
If i can spend $10 on an app for my phone have it more accurate than a dedicated unit and easer to setup and use with multiple cars. I know which ones a winner for me

Problem is the HP data it displays is pretty much useless. Sure it can show you what your MAX HP is, but it won't show you Torque output and what's most important your power curves. Max power is useless unless you know WHERE your max power is in your RPM range. Dyno tuning is used for more then showing off big numbers, its used for tuning your engine where and when you want that power to come into play to suit your style of driving and the kind of racing you're doing. For engine tuning stick to a real dyno.
Now, as for the other data such as 0 - 60, braking, turning G's, etc etc. THAT data I find useful because combined with google maps of the track you can help yourself identify where you made mistakes and to better tune your suspension.

I wouldnt call it useless, obv if they want to tune their car, and/or want to know their curves theyd jus go dyno their car. The app is for the people who just want to know what the app tells u. Its not replacing an actual dyno

Oh that I know, but you know as well as I do that there will be some wannabe dyno-queen ricer that would think otherwise. I rather lay out reality on the table before anyone who doesn't know what they're doing comes back whining about how its such a horrible app because they blew their motor trying to net 300+ hp out of their poorly tuned honda while trying to get a base-line on some back road.

Opera 9.7, faster (Turbo, the proxy), more stable, smoother (due to OpenGL-ES acceleration), more features (tabs, flashlite3.1, etc) and superb customisation (about:config).
Opera 9.7 beats Safari for iPony any day of the week. For everything else, Opera Mini 5 (lightning fast) and Skyfire (flash 10/silverlight).

Without flash support, Safari is simply a piece of crap. (Even crappy pocket IE from WM6.5 now support flash as well)

I really like the internet explorer that comes with wm 6.5.. But thats just personal!

Opera 9.5 and SkyFire atm.
Lawl at safari. By the words of Steve Jobs - "Safari is designed to bring the full Internet experience to the user" - Yeah noob, most of the web pages use flash, so how are you going to do that?

We can say everything about iphone, but the gadgets, new apps and games of iphone are superb i.c.w. Xperia. It's already one year that I have Xperia and only new eye cathy thing what I have sinds then is Mobile Shell 3.5. I just miss one thing on Iphone, and that is the hardware keyboard. All the other missing things are just things what I dont use anyway.
o.t.: I use Iris Browser and Opera Mini 5. Opera Mini 5 for quickly surf on pages (like forums) and Iris Browser for daily use. Iris Browser shows some important pages (like google, google mail, google agenda) very clear and its pretty fast.

I lol'd so hard at this. Better games without any hardware controls? lulz. Better apps? double lulz.

I'm not an Iphone defender or something like that, but your answers are really funny. I didnt say about better apps and games, but new apps and new games. And about not having hardware keys, my favorite games on Xperia are Tony Hawk pro skater and warfare, both games do you play without hardware keys
And about the picture you have added, that's not the answer for my question.

hehe, this pictures always make me laugh...
but to be honest, most of these things the 3gs has now. why it didn't have such basics in the first place - well, it's apple: "don't ask us for anything, we've already decided what you need and what not!"
but to be fair:
the features / apps the iphone has, are working. flawlessly. something you can't say about the x1. (or most other phones for that case) the word "banana principle" comes to mind...
on topic:
somehow i always end up with opera 9.5 build 16194. it's a genuine x1-build (hw-keyb functional) and it's stable and fast. i decided to leave out flash until adobe releases the new mobile-version. you can get it working now, but it's just flash lite, which equals flash 7 - most flash content requires version 10 and won't show/play.

You find this mockery because we are juvenile and also because the thread title is just silly.
Opera is superior to Safari. It has flash support, compression, and all the prettiness you get from Safari.
So to ask if any one of them is as good as Safari on iPhone is to ask the ridiculous.
Opera is better.
Your defense meanwhile only indicates that you do have a sensitivity to iPhone (you are emotionally vested or supportive) or you are simply poorly informed.

Oh, I didn't see the "s". You can have a 3gs as well...
Now, what really annoys me is a practice getting more and more common on xda (and other places) lately. People say something and if another person points that they are wrong or calls them out on it - THEY BACKTRACK AND SAY "THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT".
Please don't be one of those cowards and stand by your words like a man.
Your words are beyond clear.
There is a chance that you wanted to say something and didn't express yourself clearly, in that case, DO IT BETTER NEXT TIME and don't blame other people for it.

The iPhail is still nothing but crap. They have added a couple of things (that other phones had since the 1990s), but what about the hundreds of missing features? I guess we should be thankful for the revolutional "copy, paste and CUT!!!!!!" and call it a day lmao.
Most of their apps are totally useless and are good for only one thing - entertaining idiots!. 50k fart apps for the win? They work, because of the severe constriction othat crApple places upon the user. No choice where and how to install, no managers, no options, no customization, TOTAL FRAKKING CONTROL BY CRAPPLE. Pffff....
I have all those things and my phone still works perfectly. Which one is better huh?

hannigan, Im not an iphone fan but these two things are simply facts, not opinion. What I dont understand is that some people cant admit these two facts and have the inclination of saying something negative about the iphone. F.ck iphone, i have xperia and i'm happy with it, but I would like to have more apps and games available like iphone. arent there a lot of people who says that xperia is nothing if there werent xda? thats what I mean.

What things are facts? I said that Opera is superior, and that we are all juvenile at XDA. I think that you think I am debating something with you. I am not. I am explaining the silliness of the thread title, and saying that if anyone thinks that Safari on iPhone is the best mobile browser they are crazy or uninformed. I am not an iPhone hater. I believe they have a place, but I do not think they should be confused with legit PocketPCs in their functionality

Someone should YouTube a browser shootout showing which mobile browser successfully loads the widest variety of websites? Which browser can successfully/accurately load a full blown flash website? To me, that would be the best browser.

Ok the 4 days of the welcome back sale we configured are obviously over now. Microsoft just updated the price to 0,99€. Sorry that I posted in this forum that late, but most people read about it in other forums where we posted the news, so I think we reached a lot of people with this sale.
And I believe that 0,99€ isn't too much either for this app, the free offer was primarily for those who bought "Doodle Tower". We wanted that they can upgrade for free.
I wish all buyers as much fun as possible with the game. Make sure to write a review in the Zune marketplace if you like the app or if you have anything that you don't like. We are trying to read every single review.

Unfortunately, paid apps are not allowed under Rules 7 and 11 of XDA. You cannot advertise the sale of a paid app unless you are providing it for free to the community or at least provide a lite version. Thanks for re-opening the thread. I added a note about the free version of the game in the first post. It's playable up to a score of 12-15k (depends on the current situation of the level generator) so make sure to check it out. There is no time limit, so you can theoretically play with the free version forever without paying a penny if you like to.

I wanted to buy this game when it was still called doodle tower but couldn't find it anymore. I noticed the name changed so I was able to pick it up for free. Nice game and smooth. Only little bug I noticed is that the game icon in the games hub is zoomed making it look ugly. Icon gets normal again when you pin it start, but in the games hub it is keeps zoomed in. I noticed this bug also with other free apps.
Has this something to do with my phone (hd7)? Or is it app related

I really believe that's a general OS problem. Microsoft only says they want icons in 3 special resolutions. I provided all resolutions and the icon is still buggy in the games hub, I really don't know what I should change.
There are many developers complaining about this in the dev forums, but Microsoft doesn't provide an official answer.

The detail says it's free for a limited time. This introductory sale is over now. I already sent in an update to change the description, but I have to wait for Microsoft to approve it.

Gotcha, takes a little while for it to update.

I did say it already but I love this game ( at 29K now )
the latest update is also cool , now we can see hour latest scores
but here is a suggestion :
it would be nice to have a auto save at some time (20k 30k 40k etz) .

Autosave doesn't seem appropriate for this game, though maybe support for saving the state when you exit could be cool, so you could pick up where you left off (since quitting isn't really the same as failing).

a hight score validation process , so we can show off hour hightscore

This game is crack...I love it! Now you just need to make friends with an illustrator to make it is as gorgeous as it is addictive.
Not a criticism per se, but if this game were as pretty as say, Angry Birds, you'd be rolling in the cash.

The real game might look different, the color fading from one color to another will be very smooth, I just had to pack it into some quick screenshots that you can see some of the color themes that await you! The screenshots are from the upcoming Mac OS X version of the game, there are things that will be different in the Windows Phone 7 version!
