I've had a wing for the past 2 months. Over the past 2 weeks, the phone has been acting wierd. Occasionally, it will be working fine and I'll click the power button to turn off the screen (like I do all the time). Then when I go to turn on the phone, the screen stays black and it locks up and is unresponsive to any keys or sliding out the keyboard and I need to pull the battery. It's not the battery because it is fully charged.
The only 'hack' i've done to it since i've had is the pagepool thing. Any suggestions? I'm tempted to reset it/format it to remove any 'hacks' but not sure how to do so. I'm not sure the reset with the 1234 command will remove the pagepool hack
First of all, why are you pulling the battery? All you have to do to reset the phone is a "soft reset" ... which means putting the stylus into the little hole on the left side of the phone under the volume slider.
You should probably try to hard reset it. (hold in both soft keys while soft resetting) and yes, You'll have to set the pagepool back up.
Do keep in mind this will delete everything off your phone, so be sure to backup any important files before doing so (contacts, pictures..etc..)
I've had this happen to me a few times. I can say this though, when I flashed a new rom onto it it stopped.
If you don't want to flash, try looking in settings>system>key lock and set it to "Lock all buttons except Power button" or possible looking into some auto-locking programs, like S2U2 by A_C.
Good luck

heres a question, what did you set the pagepool to? If you set it to like 32 bajillion or 0, it won't work. also, some of the older pagepool changers don't work with the wm6.1 roms

This just started happening:
I restart my tilt. I push the power button and the display brightness gets brighter but the device does not turn off. I push it again, the device turns off but then I can't get it to turn back on without soft resetting! What the crap??!!
Any clue what is going on?
Thanks!
Alan
I am just a n00b, but it sounds like your power button got mapped to your brightness control somehow, and when the screen goes black, the device is not off, just brightness set to 0. When you soft reset, the unit just sets back to default. I am not proficient in mapping the buttons, but a quick search on the forum should help. I know that there are a lot of threads having to do with mapping keys.
Hi
I experience the same problem and strange enough after I downloaded a patch released by HTC for potential issue with blue tooth and the phone.
A soft reset does not solve the problem, instead a Sync with the PC (even not a full one) cure it for a period of 2-3 days.
I have the impression that it is more complicated than just a registry issue. For instance I can not run the TOM TOM any more.
The HTC support only suggested a hard reset that I did but for complicated reasons I was forced to restore a back up I had.
So I am still affected by this problem.
I did a hard reset and used spb backup to restore everything to the day prior. The last thing I remember installing was s2u2 0.99c which seems that it would mess with how the device responds to the power button. I'm going to post over there and see if there is a chance it was the culprit.

You have to disable directdraw in s2u2.

It was and is disabled at least according to s2u2 settings. I did notice that for me in 0.99c DPAD was enabled but did not work.
Hi. I am a new owner of the AT&T Tilt, so I was messing around with a few cool new features. I installed the HTC Home Plugin and the HTC Default Theme, which looked really nice. After I installed these, things began going crazy. When I had them installed, the screen would not turn back on after going blank, so I would have to remove the battery and then reboot it again. When it loaded back up, I tried to manually power it off via the power button on the side. INstead of powering off, it would freeze. Sucks, I know...
So I finally decided to remove both the plugin and the default screen, as I figured it would send things back to normal. It didn't. When it was all removed, I tried to slide the phone open, but the screen did not automatically switch to landscape view. So I tried to power it off, and it acted as if it was continually loading something and refused to turn off.
This is very furstrating... Do any of you all know what to do?
Thanks.

Try a soft reset and if that doesn't work, back up any data you don't want to lose and then try a hard reset. This will bring you back to factory settings but you lose all your data and added programs.
I have both those things on my Tilt and have not had that happen. Any other third party software it could be reacting with?
Not that I know of. I installed TomTom6 on there, but I had that for several hours prior to putting the two other programs on there and it worked just fine. Is there a way to do a hard reset before the phone turns on fully? Because once it turns on, I am very limited as to what I can do...
Yes.
Put your stylus into the reset hole (just above and to the right of the USB port) and hold both soft keys at the same time (next to the green and red phone buttons).
Hm.. Strange thing happened. I simply held the two soft keys at start up and it seems to have reset the whole thing. Did I do this correctly or should I redo it?

hmm i don't think so you did a hard reset than buddy. Hard reset is holding the two soft keys and than inserting stylus into soft reset hole on bottom of phone. Doing this brings you to a white screen with a warning in blue that basically tells you all data will be erased to proceed hit the send button .. and once you hit send (green button) than it starts the hard reset and once it finishes it asks you to hit the send button again to reboot the phone.
Yeah. STrangely enough, it didn't warn me of any of that. It simply took a while to boot up from the AT&T screen and when it did, all of the stuff that I had installed was gone...
Another question..
Okay, so after about seven attempts, I finally got the hard reset to work properly. Now that everything is back to it's manufacture settings, I would like to update the plain jane look of it. I know this may sound utterly stupid, but can anyone tell me exactly how to install the HTC Plugin along with the HTC Default theme and Customizer? (If links can be provided as to the correct download site, it would be greatly appreciated as well.)
The last time I thought I installed these correctly, my phone went crazy...
Thanks guys.
P.S. TomTom 6 would not have an affect on my phone.. would it?
Thanks again!
no tomtom6 will not affect your phone, I have used it for months with HTC home plugin, didn't have an issue with my tilt. I hope that helps. I don't quite understand what you want to do with the customizer maybe someone else can help ya with that.
Good luck on your new phone.

Go here, down load HTC Home plugin and Home Customizer again.
Remember to soft reset after installing (no soft keys just stylus in the reset hole) Go to start>settings>today>items, check HTC Home. And you should be good to go.
If not , now you know how to hard reset and start again.

Alright! Thanks a lot!
I'll keep you informed as to how it goes! Thanks again!
Ah! Thanks! It works flawlessly now!
Juuust kidding...
I don't know what it is, but it worked just fine for a while.
Now, whenever I tap the power button on the side to turn the screen off, I can not get it to turn back on.
Why?
I just got my Sprint Diamond last night and sure enough I installed a bunch of programs and tweaks on it.
Now when the phone starts up, it just keeps vibrating like crazy and the screen and hard buttons are unresponsive for the most part. The ONLY thing that works on the screen is the Quick Menu on the top right. Tapping the screen anywhere else doesn't do anything. The ONLY hardware keys that work are the D-Pad keys, nothing else works. Also, i get an error message on startup that says "gsen cannot connect to G-Sensor".
Here's what I did before my last soft reset:
1. Installed gsen (the sensor app). I don't think this messed with anything though.
2. Changed the screen pressure value on the "Advanced Configuration Tool" program v3.2 down from the default of 42 to 34. This didn't seem to make any difference so I wanted to see how this would change the sensitivity. I set it all the way down to 2. This is what I think broke it.. I'm guessing the low value means more pressure is required to press.
I've tried a hard reset (vol-down + enter + reset with stylus) and it doesn't do anything at all.. I've tried this many times but to no avail
Does anyone have any ideas about what I could do?
Thanks in advance.
Figured it out, it was definitely the pressure sensitivity. I used CERegEditor to connect to the registry from my computer and changed the value back and restarted the phone and all was well.
Just wanted to post the solution in case this happened to someone else.
for hard reset ( if u need it...or if u will need it)
1. Pres Vol down + d-pad (center button) + soft reset button....then release soft reset button.....and wait till couple of seconds
just updated to 6.1, hard reset, everything stock. this happened before the update too. basically, i hit the power button and it turns off, and 2 seconds later it turns back on, and will only stay off after it times out based on the power management settings. anyone know where to start looking?
Most likely it is a some piece of software that is causing the device to turn back on, have you tried performing a hard reset, and not installing anything to make sure that it's something in the rom?
yup. just did a hard reset with the 6.1 update, and its still the same. do you know of any registry entries i can edit to make it so it just doesn't wake up without the power button, no matter what software is calling it to?
I've had a quick look round the forums but cant find a definitive answer really...
Last night i got my diamond out, and it was turned off completely (not standby) for some reason. When i turned it back on it got stuck at the green windows screen with the rotating loading icon, which then also stopped. At that point it wouldnt do anything and just stopped with the backlight staying on.
I tried removing the battery, the sim, doing several hard resets, still no joy. Eventually i left it with the green screen on for about an hour, reset it, and eventually it came back on.
Anyone any ideas whats happened? Obviously i'm keen to safeguard this from happening next time (i've only had the phone a week).
I've currently got installed the following...
LEM's Trackme.
Memory Map Pocket Nav
Microsoft .net 3.5 (for trackme)
Naviter Seeyou
PHM registry editor
Gsen
sql server (for trackme)
Sensor lock
tomtom7
diamond hacks
Exchange...
Personally, if I'd only had my device a week, I would be straight in the shop for an exchange... that's assuming you haven't been messing with ROM upgrades, etc!
nope no roms, just apps installed..
it was bought from mobiles.co.uk , so a bit more difficult than just popping back to the shop plus my number is due to transfer to it tommorow, so i'm waiting until after that.
Basically, i was just wondering if the green screen halt is a common occurrence.
Hmm
Does it show the green screen after you hard reset it? Maybe a faulty .cab in your programs (I know it sounds stupid) is crashing at startup. Try a hard reset and installing one by one?
If I were you, I would use the hard-reset the phone and use it as is for about a month. If all goes well, I would gradually add programs one at a time. At least that would tell me if the phone itself is OK and if the problem may be due to 3rd parties apps.
ah okay thanks.. i tried pressing the red reset button under the cover but that didnt do anything (apart from restart the phone). I assume a hard reset is done some other way?
I'va also uninstalled some surplus apps, such as the sql server, trackme and naviter seeyou.

press voldown and the center button, and soft reset at the same time. then you'll hard reset
What you are thinking is a hard reset, is really a soft reset. A hard reset completely erases everything on your phone and restores it to default. A soft reset just restarts the phone (like the restart button on the computer).
**Remember that a hard reset resets everything so back up files if you need to.
