Black Berry Connect for Windows Mobile - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Where can I find for download the Blackberry Connect Client for WM ?
I know only about the dopod Asia website, but when I register it says there is no valid SN. I have a SN with GB which is for Europe.
Thank you very much in advance!
Alex,

you might try here

Have you tried the Blackberry website? I think I remember seeing it there.

Here you go. Straight from HTC website for the TyTn2

BB Connect 4.0.0.97

This is newer than post 4.

Thank you guys!
And also a link for the Desktop Manager ?

Thank you!
I installed Blackberry Connect. I am using it with a Blackberry Enterprise Server.
But I see in order to have the BB icon, the GPRS is always attached. Should it work like this ? I know/knew that with Blackberry phones it attaches to GPRS only when incoming email is coming, and only with Microsoft Directpush technology it stays attached all the time.
If it works like this ( Always On ), is there a difference between BB Connect for WM, and Outlook with Microsoft Direct Push ?
Yours,
Alex

Is BB Connect sensitive to AKU registry key.
I mean I used .0.4.2 sofar but I saw also that there are 0.4.4 or even 0.5.0 values ?
Does this values matter for BB Connect for Windows Mobile ?
Thx!

Yes, for the Tilt the best bet is to stick with what the provider is currently offering. 0.4.2 & 0.4.4 both work. 0.5.0 may work as I believe there is a valid hermes AKU, but never trid that one.

My blackberry is always connected to data...

If I reflash my Kaiser, and I reinstall Blackberry connect for WM.
After Installation how can I get the Enterprise Email box set-up ?
From the Activation Tab ?
I encounter issues with this:
- If I reinstall it, it connect as BlackBerry Internet Service ( I can see no more than 5 Services ).
- Right after I do activation, with a new password for BES email box activation, I get the new service, and short time after it says Services Received, the connection drops. If I do soft-reset it just connects than drops
I am using Blackberry Enterprise not Blackberry Internet Service.

i linked all of them here for better support for guys like me.
hi,
I am on Cingular in the Us. Am I able to use any of these cab files to put blackberry on my Tytn or is it network specific and if it is, is there a generic blackberry client I can put on my device?
Thanks,

most of these 3 could work with any operator as i have been told before but still i think someone who succeeded to activate it would be better to give you the ok.
the Blackberry service depends on your registration with your operator not the application, these are just extracts From the ROMs provided by the operator meaning, you need GPRS, an active BB account to use them.
if your BB account is activated on the provisioning and at Blackberry i see no problem in you using them.

Thanks for this but my thought is, the company I work for has a BB support for exchange. I have GPRS and if I use the BB configuration which they supply, I should be good? right?

since your company uses exchange then apparently you are using Blackberry Enterprise ( meaning you have a license ) thus there is no problem for you to connect.
P.S. i have tried the 3 of them they do read the IP and APN, so i think you should be ok.
One concern though is the PIN, if your PIN is associated with another handheld you will have to contact your provider to deassociate it from the account on the provisioning site to be able to use it on another handheld.
It it possible for me to set up blackberry on a linux email server?
why should i want this
for as far as I know BB gives me pushmail and access to the company's global addressbook.
in wm5 they're both working for me without this BB function.
so, what else is there in BB I want to have?

If your company has Exchange with Direct Push, it gives you nothing. If your company had a Domino server and Blackberry, it would give you pushmail and addressbook (and calendar sync).
thx. @work there's a lot of BB devices in use by another part of our merged companies. All talking about their great BB funtions. I think that with my BA including pushmail and accessible global contacts including free/busy info, appointments, etc. I have a lot more functionality.
So you say we can use this BB cab files for both personal (which the BB service that operator gives) and work (which my company uses bb enterprise edition for). We can use for every bb service?
And what number will we use when they ask the PIN (what is it anyway) thing?
Thanks
Configuring Blackberry connect using a UK Tmobile ROM on non-Tmobile service provider
The latest Tmobile UK Rom supports blackberry connect but there doesn't appear to be anyway to configure. Anyone get blackberry connect to work with a non-Tmobile service provider using a BES?

when you setup the cab , after opening the application from start/settings/BlackBerry you will press i agree then you will be set in a screen where a PIN will be generated and connection and server status shown.
Yes you can use for Enterprise and Prosumer BB accounts.
configuring IP address for non-O2 UK
I reverted to the O2 UK ROM 1.40 with the BBConnect. Everything appears to be working but its only sending the message headers. I can do a lookup on my office address book but not receive the entire message contents.
I think the problem is because the IP address for the O2 UK blackberry server is hard coded in the installation as 206.51.26.189 and my office's BES is 206.51.26.xxx (other than 189). I have all three blackberry services loaded (ie. AUP, CICAL and CMIME) but these show an IP address of 206.51.26.192. On the BBConnect status screen it shows an IP address of 100.50.40.197. I'm not sure if this is coming from my local GPRS provider or the blackberry service.
I suspect the problem is that my messages are being routed through the O2 UK blackberry server and as such its only sending the message headers. If this is the case is there a way to modify the dll installation files to change the IP address to the IP address I am using in Indonesia? Which file would need to be changed?
Someone must have gotten this to work outside of the UK so any input appreciated.

Thanks for the answer.
Did you get any feedback about this?
Seems to me that the connection settings are in XML format in the BBConnectInfo_bb.dll. However this is signed/versioned so you cant just hexedit the address otherwise the dll wont load.
Unfortunately I have no experience with WM5 SDK.
I tried to install the CAB file but it says :

Unable to install.

if you are using WM5, i have no idea. i have tried it on wm2003 se and worked great.
also check certification, if you got this handset locked by Etisalat, you may not be able to use it.
i think we need a wm5 expert to advise on this

First of all .. thanks for replying me .. as i searched the net i found another CAB file. and i can send it to you or to anyone who likes.
but the problem now that it installed and connected. generated a PIN # .. stayed live connected for 5 minutes after that it disconnected . when i tried to reconnect it connects for couple of seconds then says disconnected.
so i would be trying something during the coming couple of days using a different mobile to see if the network is blocking me or the device have a problem.

I now have BBConnect working with my companies enterprise server and I am using Vodafone contract and HTC Wizard.
Last week I was using the Molski custom ROM (fantastic ROM btw) and for the love of god BBconnect would not connect. I would connect for a second or two and then disconnect.
On Monday I installed the latest Vodafone UK ROM that is posted on the FTP server. Reinstalled the Vodafone supplied software for BBConnect and Desktop SYNC, and then connected the phone up to my laptop and exchanged PINS using the supplied Desktop SYNC (BBCONNECT) software supplied my Vodafone.
My GPRS Modem setting is web.vodafone.de (I am based in Cologne) You dont need to enter blackberry.net
Disconnected phone from laptop and all works fine. If anyone wants more info, please let me know.

I've never used a Blackberry before. Is there an advantage to using this instead of the usual Windows Mobile methods for email? Would this allow me to have push email if my company doesn't have an exchange server?

At least the name, AT&T Tilt, is now 100% confirmed!!!
Gr8 to see that my next phone also supports Blackberry Connect. I am using it on my Wizard for some months and id rather not live without it.
Basically BBC has similar functionality as WM Push-email. BBC is of most use when your company has chosen for Blackberry instead of MS Exchange push technology.
Im wondering what the advantages of BBC 4 are as compared to the old version 2 (afaik there is no BBC version 3)
I'd be interested in hearing if people have an opinion of a BB server vs. Goodlink on this device. My company has both. Thanks

I am using GoodLink on my kaiser and it is HORRIBLE!! For the past few ROMs, GoodLink has all but crippled my device when i am composing or replying-to a message. It is real jerky when typing and sometimes the device briefly locks up.
I have been told that Version 5 of GoodLink works better on WM6 & this device but I can't get my hands on it because it has not been certified in our production environment. (The lab guys use Exchange Push and i am trying to get my mailbox moved there.)
I am about to pull down BB Connect and give it a go until I can get on the Exchange Push servers. The drawback to BB Connect is that only Mail & Calendar are sync'd wirelessly. Notes, Contacts, Tasks have to be sync'd manually though the BB Desktop Mgr.
im waititng for my kaiser. I have been a longtime user of Goodlink on Palm treos- i think Goodlink is significantly better than any other mail app out there. I contacted Good regarding support for WM6 and Kaiser. they said that Good 5 supports WM6 but the kaiser is not listed as a supported device (yet?).
After my experiences of Good on a WM Treo750 (disasterous) i will stick with the WM mail / contacts apps for now.
Q for the person who put good on his / her kaiser: did contacts searching etc still work properly?
BB4 syncs contacts tasks 7 notes
Hello I would be interesyed in hearing if the BB connect version from for the tilt works on the HTC branded kaiser.
I have headr that with blackberry connect 4 you can now sync email, calendar, contacts, and tasks wirelessly AND use the MDS service even for the pocket explorer, google maps, etc.
Since I couldn't get bbc to work on my universal, if this works on the kaiser I will give it a go... I certainly would drop my 8800 blackberry for the kaiser.
thanks
Vinny
I have now installed Good on the Kaiser and it worked perfectly. Exactly like on the Hermes. We are running v4.9.3.21_EN

One of the nices things about BB 4 is that now you can connect to the internet through the MDS service, without having to disconnect from the blackberry connection to go to your ISP connection. It also supports wireless activation as well as better security policies among other things.
Ha one of the lucky kaiser owners actually tested this? I would like to know if this will also work on the HTC branded Kaiser or just on the AT&T Tilt.
thanks!!

Can someone educate me on the difference between Blackberry Enterprise Service and Activesync? Why would one choose the BES over Activesync. I believe they both are push email services with syncing of calendar, contacts, and notes as well. What are the benefits or are they exactly the same except for personal preferences?
I have just installed it on the HTC TyTN II. I am using FIDO in Canada which uses BB Connect and it works very well.
Thanks,
my company uses Good and a BB server. I got BBC to install on the Tytn II but I switched back to Good within a few days. BBC on a Pocket PC is not great. It slows the device down terribly. Also Good synched much faster. The attachment handling is bad and very limiting. I think Good 5.0 due out this month should be even better. Just my 2 cents.
Thx a lot it works fine in T-Mob Hungary with Tytn II. saved my new tool you did!
Hello I've installed the BB Connect software and got a pin, I also get connection to the network and a IP Address, but whenever I try to activate i get errors, if I do it via USB I get a success message but my BBC destop says PIN unknown, the I tried to do a wireless activation ang got a an error saying that I should contact my administrator.
Can this have something to do with the Enterprise server? supposedly my company doesn't support BBC devices, is there a way they can know this is not a BB?
I'm in MExico using Telcel carrier.
Thanks!!
Works for me too
Tytn 2 (from orange uk - on orange uk) running bbconnect 4.0.84 against my works bes
used the desktop config tool once installed (unconnected to pc - see below) and all fine
*note
If you install bbconnect when attached to your pc it hangs and doesn't install properly so you have to remove / reinstall
Installed BB Connect yesterday on an AT&T Tilt. Account is on the company BES server. Working well so far.

This sounds like the problem I had. It's related to the policies on your company's BES. I found the solution in the RIM knowledgebase:
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/sear...Public&dialogID=31123659&stateId=0 0 31125133
Unfortunately, it requires action by a BES admin. I hope you can sweet talk an admin into doing it.
Wifi?
Can any of you using this confirm if it works or not via wifi?? Can you sync with the bes or bis with out a data connection only using wifi???
Thanks.
Jeff
so bb connect includes bb messenger? i cant find it, maybe im not seeing it correctly..
There is no blackberry messenger client in blackberry connect at this time.

BlasckBerry on Kaiser / Tilt

For many of us having BBC running is imperative for our proper "being connected".
RIM choose to be strict on blocking "unsupported" devices and BBC client versions. There is 2 major releases of Blackberry Connect - BC client version 2.X is stable, but limited on features and version 4.X, which has few welcomed additions, but also introduces quite few annoying problems. In this thread we can share our findings, which are either specific to Kaiser / Tilt or do apply to any device.
As a thread starter, I'll bring in the good news for those interested in making BBC2.X running on Kaiser / Tilt - it's simple. In addition to my signature's HEXing of any current WM6 .nbh ROM files, one would simply replace the unicode string "HTC-Kaiser" to "HTC-Hermes" , reflash, change the Aku string to .2.3.0 and BBC2 will work as a charm.
BBC threads collection:

And if you aren't comfortable hex-editing your ROM, the 4.x version of BBC is supported on the Kaiser and Tilt. See these threads for more information.

HELP!! Blackberry Connect NOT working
Hello I have tried to get the BBC 4 working on my kaiser without success, on the kaiser I get a Pin Assigned, service connected and all but I don't get ANY email, the lookups all fail, the email I send from the Kaiser don't get sent but I don't get any error messages.
When I check the Blackberry connect desktop I see that it says PIN: unknown type, if I sync the device again I get a success message but again an unknown pin type
I'm using:
HTC Original ROM
Blackberry Version: 4.0.0.84
Transport Version: 4.0.0.86
Blackberry Enterprise Server: 4.1.2
System Version 77.122.174.117
I am on a coporate BES, which officially doesn't support BBC, is there any way they can block BBC devices?
Please any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
Vinny

Does any have a bb connect working (BES) on any of the upgraded roms? Tried version .84 and .90 on helmis big storage rom and it would connect for a second and then disconnect. So i switched back to the HTC Rom.

HExing you should be able to make any BBC client to connect on Hermes or Kaiser/Tilt with any current WM6 ROM.

i am a bit confused. I had Blackberry 2.1.x running on my Hermes with a patched WM 6 Version. Now I try to implement it myself on my new Kaiser (t-mobile Germany). So far I followd the instructions under
I have not been successful so far. You recommend just to hex HTC-Kaiser to HTC-Hermes. I tried with Hexedit but could not find the string in the nbh file. I use the HTC German ROM for Kaiser (KaiserHTC_GER_1.56.407.3Reconstructed). Can you give me some more hints, how to proceed ???

Blackberry Connect on S730

Hi,
Please can someone talk me through trying to get BB Connect 4 working with the new HTC S730 (Wings)?
I'm trying to move across from a BlackBerry Pearl, so I know my subscription with my operator (Telenor Sweden) is working just fine.
I've tried using BBC 4.0.0.76 and 4.0.0.84 for WM6 Standard.
I enter BBC app on the phone and click Menu > Register Now. Back on the home page the BB status changes from Not Connected > Network Available > Data Tunnel Available > Not Connected. I have no PIN (Pending) and no IP.
I also tried BBC 2.1.2.39 but this just stays at Not Connected. Any idea why this is not working, since BBC 2 is not supposed to be so fussy about checking if the device is supported?
When I try to connect with the BBC Desktop software, it says PIN is "Unknown Type"
So....
I'm guessing the S730 isn't certified by RIM yet and I need to trick BBC 4 into thinking it's running on a supported device.
Please can someone help with the correct steps? Here are some of my questions:
1. I have the S730 Nordic version so I guess the first thing I need to do is dump the ROM from my own device. Am I better off using the grab_it ROM dumper from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238945 or using this method http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...x_HowToDumpRom ? I'm struggling so far with the pdocread method as I my device seems to be application locked. I'll post more about this in the S730 ROM thread.
2. Assuming I get the ROM dump, I need to use a Hex Editor to change the GetDeviceInfo from HTC-Wings ( I guess) to a supported device. Can anyone tell me the best device to change this to e.g. HTC-Vox? I've read reports of BBC 4.0 working on the S710 Vox but also people have asked for help hacking it. Which device string should I use?
3. I'm a complete noob when it comes to repacking ROMs and flashing WM devices. Can anyone point me to step-by-step guide to this?
I've tried to read around this subject but I've quickly exceeded my technical comfort zone to put it mildly, so any help with this would be really appreciated!
You carrier needs to support the Blackberry Gateway forwarding. If it does not, from your device, then Blackberry Connect will not work. They literally need to sort of "open ports" on their system.
I tried a Blackberry Connect activation on a Samsung BlackJack II, on AT&T here in the states, with no luck. Same symptoms as you describe.
Read all of the comments here to see what other people have done.
Oh well... get your peoples to enable ActiveSync on your server. Or at least to forward your Email to an outside address.
Good luck,
Matt
I'm not ready to give up on the S730 and BB Connect just yet.
My operator supports BB Connect on Sony Ericsson and Nokia smartphones but say there is no reason why HTC models shouldn't work. I have a colleague with a HTC Tytn II, also with Telenor connecting perfectly with my company BES, so there is some hope.
The hack described in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294218 basically tricks BBC into thinking it's running on a device which is supported by RIM and your operator. That's what I'm trying to do. That's where I was going with my questions.
But I don't know a) how to dump my ROM b) what devicetype value to set and c) how to repack the ROM and reflash the device.
Has anyone else tried the same thing and can help a noob like me?

Not an option for me, unfortunately. My company only support BES and so either I get BBC working or the S730 goes up on ebay. I'm back to using my Pearl until I get this working.
Is there anyone else out there trying to get BlackBerry Connect working on the S730?
also trying for BB connect
I just tried to install three different version yesterday with no success.
4.0.0.76 (wm5 version)
4.0.0.84 (wm6)
4.0.0.91 (wm6)
http://www.sems.org/entry.asp?ENTRY_ID=276
They all installed properly but did not generate a PIN number, it was stuck at "PIN pending".
It went thru the same sequence "Network Available" --> "Data Tunnel Available" --> "Not Connected"
have not tried version 2.1 yet will do that shortly
Tried 2.1
update:
Tried 2.1 on the s730, it does not function.
If anyone has anymore ideas please post, and i will try it .
I know this is a separate platform, but perhaps bbconnect for the HTC tilt might work. AT&T have it available here http://www.america.htc.com/mobile/connect/8925/
Has anyone tried emoze as a push solution?
Has anyone found a working BB Client for BB Internet Service for The S730?
I see over the years ... nobody read carefull Threads!
Black Berry is a complicate and secure Application!
How they generate a Pin?
The Device Name, Device OS Version and Build Nr. are for the generation importent. It means ... if your modded os have a wrong OS Version and Build Nr. you doesnt get a Pin and you see every time "Pin pending"
How i can fix this?
Try to use a Original HTC Rom. If you get Pin Pending again ... try to reg edit your Build Nr. If its work, you have the right version Nr.s you need and Build Nr.! Then you can ask you favorit Rom Builder for changing does numbers.
Use Black Berry Connect Clients over 4.0.0.90
If you know the right ids ... publish it!
But where can I get the right rom for my HTC S730 and where can I get a BB client over 4.0.0.90
Original Rom ... www.htc.com -> eMember
Black Berry Client ... netrunnerat.4shared.com -> tools

That's a cool site. Thanks.
Also, did you test this on the S730 with your theory?
It dosn't work. No PIN.
New Ideas ?
your carrier needs to allow your phone to access the Blackberry servers. It's a provisioning thing. Call them and try to get it added... try to convince them just to add it and see what happens, even if you don't have a Blackberry. They might have a special thing... like AT&T's Tilt has the ability to use blackberry connect, so AT&T probably has some special feature for provisioning that enables a non-blackberry phone to be provisioned for blackberry service.
Without this connection allowed by your carrier connecting you to RIM's servers... Blackberry Connect will not work.
Prove me wrong. (seriously, because I want to get this working for myself )
I have the blackberry connect service activated for my s730 but can not get a pin number. I will try different versions, if anyone has anymore ideas please post
Thanks

Kaiser - Blackberry Connect Activation

Hi All,
I have a Kaiser ROM 1.56.405.5 and Radio 1.27.16.21
I installed the BB Connect delivered on CD and checked ... it is the latest version.
I installed the BBC Desktop on PC and also checked .. it is the latest version.
My mobile operator has already activated my SIM card for BB and it is working because I have the service always connected, I got a PIN and an IP address is always available.
Now, coming to the activation, I had my IT managers who make my email BB enabled and got a password (MS Exchange).
The Blackberry Entrepise Service is activated on the BBC and everything seems working.
As I was not able to activate my email with the given password, I read in several threads that we can do it through the PC with the BBC Desktop.
I did it and it worked .... miracle!
Sending and recieving emails when connected to the PC is perfectly working.
But sending and recieving emails when standalone through wireless is impossible. My email is visible and seems activated on Kaiser BBC.
Eventhough the radio tunnel seems to be connected and active (either on EDGE or 3G), no way to have it working normally.
Question 1:
Can my mobile operator be blocking the usage of HTC on the network in order to oblige buying a BB handset?
If yes, why do I have a Radio BB Connection always active?
Question 2:
Do I need for a while before getting my email "really" activated by BB?
Is it linked to the fact that I never succeed to use the password given by my IT people?
Question 3:
Is it possible that I need to configure my GPRS connection? I read somewhere that the APN could be different and sometimes we need to chaneg the registery keys. My understand was that this is needed for older versions of BBC.
I am just trying to understand whether I have to shoot on my IT people (they will not like it because of the policy: Nothing else that BB handsets!) or to shoot on my mobile operator who can also have the same policy.
Thanks for your help.
Marko
I have always had to use the blackberry desktop to provision a blackberry connect device for bes.
Check your settings and connections. You should have a connection for blackberry.
You also should have a blackberry icon at the bottom right of your home screen. Click this and check your blackberry settings such as identity (pin, imei, ip address), status (connected), email settings, services (some of the individual services have settings which you should check).
Hi
Yes everything you said is OK
What are the settings for the services?
I have no clue.
One of them is not running: IPPP for 5 click [IPPP] !!
Thx
Marko
Is your ROM a 6.1 ROM? I can't tell by just the numbers. If it is Change registry setting (HKLM\System\Versions Aku set to .0.4.2)
Not sure why 6.1 does that but it worked for me.
Thanks to Dutty for the above instructions
my ROM ver is 1.56.405.5 Radio is 1.27.16.21
Register is OK
What should I do with the password given by my IT guys? I didn't use it.
THX
Marko
Hehe
Just found out that my ROM is WM 6.0 can it come from this ?
Thx
Marko
I used the BB Connect software on my pc, clicked configure handset and it did all the work for me, I didn't need to enter a password.
You might need to go into BB security and set a password for the handset.
Hi
I flashed a new ROM with 6.1 on my Kaiser.
BBC version .100
Radio is ok and got PIN
BBC Desktop configured my the balckberry services on Kaiser.
Even, sent and recieved email when connected to PC with BBC Desktop.
BUT ... when I am on wireles, no way to make it working.
Thx for your help.
Marko
Guys,
It was my provider. Now everything seems working even in roaming.
They put me on BIS and when I asked for BES, they proposed to me a new thing: BB Multinational.
Just be careful all, there is not only BIS and BES but also BB Multinational with some providers.
Cheers.
Marko
