New Tilt/Kaiser User: - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Somehow I have stumbled my way through search engines and ended up here.
I bought an at&t tilt and I am loving it. Does anyone know if there is a way to remote desktop to the mobile itself? Such as remote desktop or vnc?
I would love to know your favorite apps.
Right now mine are
1.) Google maps
2.) Keepass(a must for any IT consultant)
3.) mToken(ssh, telnet, etc)
4.) Skype(works well when you get a headset for your tilt)
5.) Sprite Backup
6.) Core Player(man I wish there was an way to make Pocket IE use it as the default video player)
I am looking at the PDair Aluminum Case as I have a bad habit of either coughing, spilling or dropping my pda/phones.
This is a great community and resources, thanks to those who established it.

ActiveSync Remote Display
Mobiler
SOTI Pocket Controller

Read the Wiki
And My Mobiler does what your looking for.
The things i use the most with my Tilt is
Tomtom 6
HTC Home
Skype
Resco Radio
And my Bluetooth Stereo Headphones.
Also like to Use SPD Mobile DVD to put Futurama and other movies on my Phone.

Welcome! My favorite apps are: SPB Mobile Shell 2, Opera, Tom Tom, Kaiser Tweak and Kaiser Notification. The last 2 apps I listed are invaluble for taking care of most of the "nits" you'll come across.
This forum is a great resource... just about anything you'll come up with a question for has already been discussed at some point in the past.
Searching is the word of the day here (every day), and patiently reading thru the threads that you come up with will pay dividends!

Remote Desktop Mobile on Kaiser - Any Ideas?

Hi guys, looking for some pointers with this one.
Having usefully used Terminal Services on the TyTN to remote support Windows machines while out in the field, I've upgraded to the Kaiser only to find that not only is the improved Remote Desktop Mobile from WM6 not included in the build, but neither is the previous Terminal Services Client. This is a major problem for me as I don't want to have to carry two devices with me (never mind 2 SIMs and contracts!)
Having searched around it seems that Microsoft decided not to make the inclusion of Remote Desktop Mobile madatory in the build, but to offer it as an option to carriers and manufacturers. It also seems that this is something which none of the carriers has opted for - and definitely not Vodafone UK as in my case.
This really has crashed a major downer onto the otherwise brilliant bit of gear which is the Kaiser.
Has anyone any access to the RDM app for installation onto the Kaiser, or, failing that, an "easy" way to port the old TSC from the TyTN?
Try this... this is a remote desktop prog. for PPC on WM6 devices
Its available in the thread where all cabs are located (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332438), following the big link there will point you to the wm6 remote desktop cab (http://www.cinetsystems.com/xda/Kaiser Cab Collections/WM6_RemoteDesktop.cab)
Thanks guys, brilliant work and saved me loads of gief.
(BTW - I did search across the site but couldn't anything - I'll make sure I try harder next time!)

New to Kaiser

I should be getting my Kaiser the end of this week. Is there anything I should do immediately after receiving it?
Getting the Kaiser because my 8125 broke (the usb breaking issue). I'm no stranger to flashing roms, but just wondering whats the scenario with the new device.
Will I notice a big difference as far as speed/performance compared to my 8125.
Thanks!
Visit SPBsoftwarehouse.com and checkout SPB Mobile Shell - SPB Diary and SPB Phone Suite. Then for fun SPB Brain Evolution.
Then later on get PHM Registry Editor (free).
Then look into memmaid for maintenence.
Check out dutty's rom (#7 I believe).

I'd probably opt for
1) SPB's pocket plus
2) Wisbar advance 3
I'd also get
a) PHM Registry editor (free)
b) TCPMP (free)
c) MemMaid
d) Kaiser Tweaks (free)
If you want GPS navigation
i) Microsoft Live Search (free)
ii) Google Maps (free)
iii) TomTom Navigator 6 (dependant on if you have Kaiser or variant, and where you live -- free/paid)
The Kaiser ships with "Sprite Backup", this is a an older version, but works OK. Dont contemplate changing if for the "Upgraded version" or SPB Backup unless you have issues
The Kaiser also ships with GPRS monitor, this is SPB's GPRS monitor under a different name.
You might want to use the HTC Home Customiser thats around, however backup your phone before doing so (I changed my clock font using it).
the first thing to know is that htc suck because there is no hardware acceleration for the qualcom chip coz they don t want to relese the driver lol

If I had to do it over again, I would not have gone for the Kaiser. As it stands, I will likely go back to my 8125 at least for a little while until some of the issues get worked out.
You may be better off finding a cheap 8525 from ebay to use until something lives up to what you would expect from the specs. The Kaiser has many issues. Here's a few
1. Many people have complained about poor Bluetooth headset volume. This might require purchasing a new headset.
2. Since the 8125 days, you now need to buy and adapter to use a standard 3.5 headphone jack.
3. Video playback is very poor
4. Game play for anything with 3D graphics (hearsay to me) is very poor.
5. TouchFlo - It is so buggy it is pretty much useless.
6. After several iterations of both moblie OS's and PC OS's, I still can not get music to "sync" without issues. It took me DAYS to get 4GB of music synced as I had to keep reconnecting. Every 40-50 songs. This had been a problem for me since WinMo 2003 and XP, and is still problematic with WinMo 6 and Vista. I have never been a big fan of iTunes, but at least it WORKS.
7. This depends on your supplier but for me, the AT&T ROM is chock full of useless programs and lacks most of the HTC supplied programs that ship with the HTC ROM. After several days trying to essentially get the AT&T ROM to look like the HTC ROM, I gave up and flashed a cooked ROM. It sucks that I had to go through all of this trouble to get the phone set up as I liked it. I feel sorry for people who aren't up to flashing a ROM, because the AT&T ROM is truely an abomination of marketing gack. More than 50% of the programs in the standard custom install are trial version that require you to spend more money for full functionality.
Anyway, I am a bit jaded. Considering I skipped a generation (never had an 8525) I had high expectations that this would be far and away better then my 8125. It is in some respects, but so far I think it has not been worth the effort and cost. Since I had an offboard GPS solution for the 8125, about the only thing that is better on the Tilt is the Bluetooth Stereo and compatibitly with WM6 programs. It's not even that much smaller.
Before you get the 8925/Tilt - screen protector, case, large microSD (they sell up to 8gb now).
As people are saying here, you may want to do the At&t bloatware removal trick. We have 2 Tilts in the house: 1 with, 1 without bloatware. I have the bloatware, and will do the removal trick next time I need to hard boot. Not a single thing on there I need, that I can't find on Xda. The bloatware takes up about 20mb of space! The other Tilt is running great sans bloatware.
Essential programs to offset some bugginess:
- KaiserTweaks (freeware).
- BandSwitch (free or pay versions) if you have 3G in your area.
- Conduits PocketPlayer 3.5X (sound is much better to me).
Utilities:
- DinarSoft MemMaid (not free), but it has so many functions all in one: It will help with Notifications/Alarms, it is a Registry Editor, you can reformat your microSd card with it (to name a few).
- Chi-Tai Dang BatteryStatus Today Plugin (free or pay versions). Will show battery, memory, card memory, cpu usage, phone minutes/data/texting...
- Spb Mobile Shell (not free).
Programs:
- Microsoft Live Search (freeware).
- ReenSoft PiePlus (not free).

Any reccomendations for a new user?

As title really , i've had a WM2003 based PDA before and a couple of S60 mobiles in the past.
But this is my first PDA/Phone device.
I have the O2 version of the TYTN2 (XDA Stellar)
Can anyone reccomend me any essentials I should be looking at getting.
Looking for a decent web browser and any other Utilizes that are recommended
Also is there an easy way to switch between running apps without going back to the today screen first?
recommendation is to search + read the gweni
Hmm while its an interesting read most of it seems to be concerned around changing things in the Firmware/Rom.
There's a couple of useful things like a stopwatch/countdown timer listed but I didn't see anything that resembled a list of Recommended apps (ideally freeware)
I feel your pain. It's tough to find a list of recommended apps. I may actually put a list together this weekend. I got my Tilt about 2 weeks ago and I have my list of apps. Actually, I'll start:
Audio Player: HTC Audio Manager or Windows Media Player
Backup: Sprite Backup and PIM Backup
Calculator: I like the skin that comes with dutty's ROM
Camera: HTC Camera
Compression: PocketRAR or HTC ZIP
Config Tools: KaiserTweak and Schap's Advanced Config
Cube: Slither's Cube (I don't like the Cube much, but this one is pretty damn nice)
Dialer: DualTouch dialer
File Manager: Resco or Total Commander
IM: Palringo or IM+
Maps/GPS: Google Maps and/or Windows Live Search
Picture Album: HTC Album
Registry Editor: Regeditor
Screen Capture: pocket Screen
Start Menu Replacement: QuickMenu
Other:
HTC Action Screen
HTC Home
HTC Home Customizer (I like v1.0 and don't like v.1.05b)
HTC QuickGPS
HTC Comm Manager, 6 button, Schap's style
HTC SIM Manager
HTC Voice Recorder
HTC Field Status
Sipchange
Can't find a good one:
Battery monitor
Task manager
Media player (TCPMP is a popular one, but there are a lot of them)
Office - I keep using Pocket Outlook for Contacts, Email, Appointments, and all that other jazz. There are other apps out there like FingerFriendlyFriends but strangely I'm happy with Pocket Office.
Does this help?

Start with Kaiser tweaks. That will rid your phone of most annoyances. Read all info on Touch Flo, Touch Flo Cube, Htc Home Customizer. Read the Wiki here and on htcwiki.com. Everyone here needs different things from their phones. And different ways to access those things. Read read read, follow links. One search will take you to another search to another.
I got my Tilt in early Nov came accross this site shortly thereafter, read and listened and searched and did not have a need to ask a question until April, my first post. Lots of info here for the grasping. No offense to anyone here, but a list of all " apps " isn't necessarily a list of what you want or especially what you " need".
I'll add one more to this:
Voice Commands: Microsoft Voice Commander or Cyberon Voice Commander
Wow isn't this post repeated every week or so?

Windows Mobile Equivalent Apps (Equivalent to Symbian S60 V3)

Hello again,
As I mentioned in a previous thread, I’m due to upgrade my handset in the coming weeks from an N95 to the Touch Diamond (MDA Compact 4)... I have some really good apps on the N95 which I rely on a lot. I was wondering if anyone knew of any WM6.1 alternatives to the following apps...
Nokia Internet Radio
http://europe.nokia.com/A4668051
Hundreds of streaming radio stations over WiFi or HSDPA
Shazam ID
http://www.shazam.com/music/portal/page/default/template/pages/p/shazam_id.html
Music track identification - the app records a sample of the track and tells you the name and artist via data connection WiFi or HSDPA.
Nokia Sports Tracker
http://www.nokia.com/A4388200
GPS Tracking of my sports activity (running / cycling etc) routes viewable in google earth via KML file.
Nokia Conversation
http://www.nokia.com/A4568203
View text messages listed by contact as opposed to going to inbox and sent items separately
I've already checked my other key apps:
Shozu
JoikuSpot
Route 66
And they all appear to support HTC devices such as the Cruise and the Kaiser etc, so I should be ok there.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated - not sure if i should of used a different forum for this really.... if a mod feels ti should be moved please go ahead
Garry
1) the original wm 6.1 text messaging shows you both the send and received at the same time and you can also see them while you r typing so you could reply back to the received questions
2) there is also a program for internet radio on the htc, i have used it and it is perfect. it think it is spb radio. check it out
Excellent, thats a good start Thanks!
Anyone have any alternatives to Shazam and Sports Tracker?
Alternative for sportstracker is RUNGPS
Ah sweet! Thanks lappie!!
after some searching i found tthese....theres probably better ones but the results looked promising:
http://www.mobilemarketingmagazine.co.uk/2006/04/shazam_for_wind.html
http://www.getjar.com/products/12049/InetToolsTrackID
http://thinkabdul.com/2007/06/17/fr...t-album-info-of-recorded-music-clipsongsound/
Another nice Symbian application is Nokia's Lifeblog, overall due to its ability to get synchronised with the PC client... Is there any equivalent in the PPC world?

Thats brilliant, thank you very much
Ya truly something like Nokia Lifeblog in PPC will be truely appriciated..
New here and also looking into moving off Symbian and over to WM... scary stuff ;-)
We do a lot of geocaching and having Geocache Navigator installed on the N95 is great (when a phone signal is present of course) to find cache's close by or check on cache details without having to take printed pages along. It will also guide you via a compass and bearing to the Lat Long location of the cache...
Any apps specifically for geocacher's that will interact with the geocahce web site / data base ?
cheers
Shazam ID works on Diamond
I have Shazam ID working on the Diamond. One problem.... I have to reset the Diamond each time I use the program. For some reason it will not shutdown properly because it is not made for a touch phone. Maybe someone knows how to use it better???

the version you are using (musidid) looks like absolute crap on the VGA screen. very distorted. Its so sad there is no decent version of shazam on windows mobile - I used to use it all the time.

Useful Applications, Games, Task Managers, Calendars Needed

hi, I have an HTC Fuze and I'd like to add useful applications to it. What's a good task manager? Are there any free/fun games for the Fuze out there? What applications do you find useful?
I currently have TF3D, Diamond Tweak, HTorch 3.2 and Tipster.
I'm fairly new at WM 6.1 so any assistance would be appreciated.
Unfortunately my crystal ball is currently in repair, could you be a bit more specific?
You could start with reading, or use the search option.
(I don't know what you find useful or like so no suggestions)
I'd like to know what kind of applications people have on their devices. I suppose I'd Like a better task program, free games. I'm not sure which programs are useful, but could you tell me what programs you are currently running?
So far I have added Google Maps (great app for navigating and very accurate gps) and I am planning on MS Outlook for mobile as the phones built in mail program is having issues with government mail servers ( i cant send new mail).
I am also working on software to use gps to track my distance and time when I go running.
for podcasts and rss, viigo
i would recommend dashwire if you're into mobile backup and such
PANDORA free definitely (resolution is a bit funky)
tickertape for stocks
diamondcubes
pedometer on occasion
total commander for registry tweaks or just a far better alt. to file exp.
stopwatch
lightsaber
gyrator 2 for full acce. function.
lumos for better backlight manage
skyfire for faster browsing
weather database editor for more cities
herg62123 for different clocks, sliders, and a landscape tf3d
his slide to answer port from blackstone.
that's about all the helpful things i can think of. hope this helps.
Do you need GPS for google maps to use it? Where can I download google maps for my Fuze? It seems that my Fuze is a bit a sluggish, how can I up the speed for TF3D? I already have Diamond Tweak and TF 3d Config.

the best way to really wake up your Fuze is to flash with custom rom. Course HardSPL first.
How do you input your signature? What is a Hard SPL?
Dude I don't mean to be rude but you really need to search. Alot of the answers you're after can be found in the wiki or the sticky threads at the top of the forums.
This is one of the best forums around with some of the most helpfull members, but with questions like this and members who refuse to search people wont stay nice for long.

Here you go http://www.letmegooglethatforyou.com/?q=site%3Aforum.xda-developers.com+raphael+hardspl. Look at the first link. You input your signature using the UserCP on the left hand side of the brown bar at the top. and as for games and such, several people have Links to 4shared accounts in their signatures. Feel free to browse, download, and experiment.

You can use NoniGPS Plot for this, it will automatically put it into a KML file for insertion to Googleearth or googlemaps. Give it a try might give you some ideas for new addons, also i'd love to see your gps software when finished GL!
As far as this post goes programs i find useful are, notepad , I don't use a lot of apps excep imap pusher service, and also for games i really enjoy G-Invaders. Manila customizer is a good one for customizing your touch flow 3D. Also Pandora, is an amazing music streaming software even over edge network it works quite well. I use that on my decomissioned kaiser, over WiFi.
Hope that helps!
